If you have a home that operates on a septic system and strange things start happening, you get a sinking feeling that something needs to be done, and soon! If you are like me, you can't remember who you called to pump your septic system last time anymore than you can remember who did your last colonoscopy! But today we have Google, Yelp, etc, to not only find service companies but also to read reviews and ratings by other customers. Ewers Septic Service was actually recommended to me by a plumbing company that showed up as 5 Stars under a septic systems search that only cleans clogged pipes. Before I called them to schedule an appointment, I did a little research and found that any septic service provider will ask you for the size of your tank, when it was pumped last time, one or two compartments, etc. Ours was new since our house was rebuilt and I learned that details are maintained at County Records for 20 years or so. I contacted the county and they looked up our records and told me it was 1000 gal and one compartment. I asked them to send me copies of the documents related to our septic system to confirm details and location of the tank. I contacted Laura at Ewers with this information and was quoted $225 to pump a 1000 gal tank plus $50 per lid to dig it up; oh, and a $10 Veterans or seniors discount for a total of $265. This is where things got crazy. The county records had conflicting information with the permit application listing 1000 gal and one compartment but a later drawing had a note stating 1500 gal and the final signed copy left the tank size blank. So public records may be inaccurate. Laura, from Ewers, explained that once located and dug up we would positively be able to confirm the size and type. She also provided me with a quote for a 1500 gal two compartment tank as $310 plus $50 for digging up each lid (2 expected), minus the $10 discount for a total of $400. We scheduled an appointment and when Mike came out he located and dug up a lid and visually we verified two compartments at which point he located and dug up the second lid. He then proceeded to pump the tank, verified proper functioning of the septic system, closed it up, and replaced the dirt and sod over the top. The bottom line for us was a $400 charged as expected and a functional septic system. Throughout our dealings with Ewers Septic Service, they (Laura) were very open about the fees and what we could expect. We were fully aware of the variables we might expect. While Mike was here he was very professional and answered any questions I had while he got the work done. We have noted all of the contact information and I would have no hesitation to call Ewers next time we need to get pumped! Maybe we need to track scheduling our colonoscopies the same way as our septic system! read more

We have used Ewers to pump out our tank every couple years for the last 8 or so and never had any issues. They always arrive on time and they're usually gone pretty quick too. We just had our tank pumped about a month ago. Well we needed it pumped again, because of an emergency type of situation. There was an active leak that couldn't be stopped until the tank drained and the repair made. As a Realtor in the Evers market area, I have referred them many times over the years. Had Ewers come out and replace the baffle on our septic tank. They performed the repair no problem, however, they took no care to save the grass in our backyard. This repair had to be done from the outside of the tank and thus resulted in a 6' x 12' area of dirt in the backyard. I called and tried to understand why our backyard was left in this condition but Mike said this was common. I asked if he could re-sod the area and he said no. I wouldn't recommend Ewers if you value the grass in your backyard. See picture. read more

Mike installed a septic on my house less than a year ago and my entire house started to smell like Sewage after months of use. multiple calls and talking to his wife and daughter who answer the phones, they kept refusing to come out unless we need it cleaned. After four weeks of refusing, we had to go our own route and hire plumbers and get our pipes scoped to find the smell was coming from the electrical on the new septic. They had forgotten to plug the Conduit the wire came from the pump to the house. The electrical has been contracted out so they just went on to be in denial and I was left with a mess. The service itself was fine but please make sure you have a price quote in writing before you let them begin the work because they will raise the price and then you are stuck paying. I called them and was quoted $175 for my tank. I even reconfirmed the price because I used them the last time and still had the receipt for $155.00. The woman explained that the rates have gone up, which is reasonable because the last time my tank was cleaned was 5 years ago. After the man finished the work, he told me my total was $265! I called the owner and explained the situation and she said, "Oh, I must have said the wrong price" and refused to even meet me half way on the new price. Very disappointing. If your rates go up, that is absolutely fine with me, but I would have called around to many companies for quotes but I was lied to about the final price until the work was actually done. Our septic tank has a problem and they refuse to dig it up because it's winter. What the hell, this is the most mild winter ever. They refuse to look at the real problem and instead just clean out our tank every so often (which obviously means there's a problem). I refuse to ever get service from then again. They also blamed my boyfriend for not fixing the toilet (which he did, last week and the field is backed up again). They don't care if people have emergencies like we do and can't do the dishes or take showers. read more

I made an appointment for septic tank clean out several weeks ago. The woman who booked the appointment said her guys would be out between 1 and 5 ISH. She stressed the ISH. She said they would call 1/2 hour before arriving. I assumed that the ISH meant they would be there closer to 5 than 1. Well 1pm comes and goes. 2,3,4,5,6pm come and go too. At a little after 6pm the phone rings. We figured let's not go through this again and just get it over with so we told them to come on over. That's when I realized how their day goes. Our tank lid was old and required quite a bit of digging to open the tank. That's when I realized how difficult is is for them to give you a more specific time as to when they will arrive for service. They were very nice and answered all our questions. That's when their job really hit home. Now about 8pm, they not only had one more job to go to, but they had to go empty their truck before that. Not knowing if the lid has been dug up or how much is to be drained from each tank, and not knowing when they will have to empty their truck, how the heck can they get to your house at a specific time.
