The scope of the project was to smooth-out the existing orange peel finish on all walls using a Level-5 finish. Our project was also complicated by the fact that we just installed a brand new hardwood flooring which was a significant investment for us and we wanted to ensure it was properly protected. We walked through project list (both indoor and outdoor repairs and related painting with Gabe and his contractor friend, who said they could make discussed repairs and that would coordinate with each other on bids for who would do what. When THEY finished, we were left with unpainted interior walls, window trim repairs undone and/or unpainted, and mismatched paint color on stucco repair saying they had not quoted the full project as discussed. We paid a premium thinking it was a comprehensive coordinated project. Review the quote carefully to ensure the service you discussed is what was actually quoted. He did what was in quote (outdoor trim and very minor stucco repair), but not what we walked through and discussed. We will need to hire another professional to finish the job. read more

I got an in-person bid from Gabe Ewing to stain our wood fence. The price was fair, and we set a time for his crew to show up. The three-person crew was there within five minutes of the agreed-to time, and completed the painting job in one day plus two hours the second day. Gabe was onsite each day, along with his other two crew members. At the conclusion of the job, this morning, he took me around to inspect his work. I found only a few very tiny flaws, which he had his workers touch up immediately. Gabe was extremely friendly, and his workers did a tremendous job. Some of the fence was new, and was stained for the first time. Other sections had been stained several times in the past. In all cases, he and his crew carefully cleaned the surfaces and very effectively masked areas that shouldn't receive any stain, such as stucco walls the fence touched, and an adjoining block wall. There was no overspray whatsoever. I've attached a picture of the newly-stained fence and one of a section of the re-stained fence, showing how nicely the crew masked the block wall. We were extremely pleased. Gabe willingly accepted my check for the balance (I had given him a 10% down payment by credit card when he gave me the initial estimate), and I was pleased enough that I gave each of his workers a nice cash tip, too. read more

The bid to paint the exterior of my home was $18,000. They used high pressure sales techniques and took a $1000 deposit. I was pressured into signing an unreadable contract on the guy's ipad. I later found out that hidden somewhere in the contract, which I wasn't given the opportunity to read in it's entirety, was a non-refundable clause.
