They were reliable, friendly, professional and did a beautiful job on our 100-year-old house, whose shingles had seen better days. It looks like new now. Like many new homes, the builders cut corners when painting/staining the extension amount of cedar siding, and as a result we noticed more wear and tear than should be normal for a new home. The Excel team diagnosed the problem and suggested a great fix. Jose and his painting team really took the time to paint our home. They spent two full days sanding and prepping alone. The prep work was amazing, and made all the difference. We are very happy with the work the entire team did. Clearly for them "team work makes the dream work". Oh my god! How happy am I right now? SO happy! Why? 'Cause my house looks AMAAAAAZING (imagine a falsetto voice here). Why does it look amazing? Because Josh and Garcia just left. Seriously people. My house looked abandoned. It probably hadn't been painted in a hundred years. Okay, that's an exaggeration since it was built in '53...but take my word for it. It looked seriously crappy. I had this project bid three years ago and then something else came up. At the time, Ryan came out and he was super nice - WAY nicer than the other people. Several didn't even bother to show up. A few months ago I e-mailed Ryan, he updated the bid for me within a day and we were off! David was great. Super communicative and responsive about the schedule and what was happening. I was also having a few windows installed and they were super great about adjusting their effort to work around the window people. And Josh and Garcia - I can't say enough about those guys. Josh walked around with me on the first day, going over what was happening and making sure I understood the scope of work. Anytime anything came up, he chatted with me about to make sure I was in the loop. The job site was always tidy and the place was really clean when they left. They were both friendly, courteous, and professional. And I think my four month old puppy would have been happy to go home with Josh. That ungrateful little monkey! (The puppy, not Josh). First of all, let me say that work done merits a 4 star review. The bid was middle of the road compared to others we received and we choose Excel based on their great reviews and the experience with Ryan during the bidding process. The painting crew also did a good job and we have no problem with their work. However, David, who works in Excel's office, really left a bad taste in our mouth for the whole project. We didn't love the color our house ended up being - a color match that Excel performed for us - and expressed as such. David was a nightmare to work with once we mentioned we had a problem. He had terribe customer service skills and repeatedly made us feel like it was our fault and that we were stupid. Painting our house was a big commitment and investment in our eyes, and he was not the least bit helpful in trying to get us to an end product we would be happy with. In fact, he succeeded in making us even more unhappy to the point that we gave up on even having Excel repaint to get us to a color we'd be happy with. A very disappointing experience. read more

They only completed 2/3rds of the job and dumped their paint down a storm drain with a sign saying "dump no waste. Drains to salmon stream". Their owner response was that this was normal to dump paint and their paint was non toxic. In retrospect I should have just called WDFW or Dept. of Ecology. DON'T use this company if you want to protect our environment and want the job done like they said they would. read more

I am so confused how this place got so many great reviews. They must not have had the same painter we had. Our townhouse we were selling was completely empty and ready for fresh paint (no obstacles, should have been a fairly easy job). When we checked out their work the next day we found multiple, I mean MULTIPLE, paint splatters all over the place. On the hardwood floors (had to be at least 10 paint splatters on the ground), paint on the fireplace, clumps of paint on the wall. There were several areas that needed a paint touch up that weren't. It seemed like the whole job was done by a kid. We called them and asked if they could come back and basically finish their job. We told them we will mark all the paint splatters and areas missed with blue paint tape, so when they came back they would know exactly where to look. We marked probably about 20 areas that needed attention. Sounds flawless right? Well, they came back and fixed about half of what we marked with blue tape. They did not come back a 3rd time. We didn't have time to waste we had carpet installation coming, staging appointments, etc. They said they will address the situation if a problem came up with selling it. Well, the staging of the townhouse hid the mess nicely with carpets, so now that the townhouse is sold and has new owners, I guess it's not our problem anymore...I feel bad tho. Oh, and they charge an extra 3% if you want to pay with a credit card. Was going to give them 2 stars because of their fairly low price.. but decided not to since they didn't even offer a discount or partial refund for the mess they made. I contacted Excel Home Painting last year to get an estimate. Ryan came out, walked around, and give me a professional bidding report. I told him it might be next year before we will be ready for the exterior painting. This year I sent him an email asking if the price will still be the same. He said yes. So, I went with Excel Home Painting. I looked through the bidding paper again and found that gutter, downspout, front door and garage door were not included. I asked him to give me an estimate for all these items included. I also want the color to be as is. He sent me an estimate. I accepted the bid and sent in 30% deposit after the agreement and will pay the rest after the job done. I called David to arrange to do the pressure wash last week of May and painting in June. David and the crews showed up on time for painting. I had to spend a little time confirming with him that gutter and downspout were supposed to be the same (white color) instead of the same color as the trim (cream color). He was not very happy with that. He said it will be harder to paint. He said it will cost a little more as it's a change of contract. I insisted that it was on the contract. He said he will have to confirm with Ryan. Then, he told his crews to do what I wanted and left. I don't understand why it had to be that complicated since we already agreed with the color schemes. The crews, however, were very nice. They told me to feel free to ask them if there is any question. The job was professionally done. They left the paint for us so we will know the paint numbers if we need it in the future. At the end, I am happy with the result so far. I would recommend Excel home painting for my friends (though I might ask them to print out the contract to confirm with the crew on the first day of the painting). read more

I hired Excel some time ago to do two accent walls in my apartment last November. Ryan and David were both excellent communicators and were able to give me a great estimate with a rough square footage and a pretty bad picture of my wall. On the day their painter was scheduled to come out, it decided to snow; you know, that day last November when the whole NW side of Washington shut down? On any normal day, it would have taken the painter (I don't remember his name!) 30 minutes to get to my apartment, but on that day it took him 3 hours. A normal person would have called and rescheduled; he came. Not only did he come on a totally ridiculous day, but he had the walls taped, painted, un-taped and cleaned up within 4 hours! It would have taken me a week, and it would not have looked half as good as it did. I would trust Excel any day to come back and do my painting projects! read more

Who knew that wanting your kitchen cabinets repainted was going to be such a project. Our cabinets were in great shape but were dark and we decided to lighten up the kitchen. We knew we wanted them sprayed and that was about it. Most painters didn't want to do them. Some came in and left without bidding. Excel came in and they were the middle bid. We decided to go with them because of the professionalism they showed. Their responses were always timely and friendly. They made suggestions which were great and kept us informed through the whole process. One of my favorite things were the instructions which detailed what they needed from us and what they were going to do which alleviated that contractor communication stress. Referred by a neighbor, I got an estimate from Excel along with two other companies to paint the exterior of our home; their estimate was the cheapest by at least a grand compared to the other companies. They contacted me a couple of weeks earlier than expected and offered to do the power washing a week or so earlier due to an opening in their schedule, another opening got them to our house 2 weeks earlier than planned to paint!!! Hernan and his crew showed up promptly Monday morning and knocked out the job in just 2 days! Hernan was very professional and thorough. The house looks amazing and the care and detail-orientation of the crew is evident. I also felt very comfortable with them in and around the house whether or not we were home. We also got support from our contact person via email about paint selection. The only negative, and not worthy of losing a star, is that they don't take credit or debit cards. I was bummed to miss out on my cc points and it was annoying to have to mail in a check rather than just pay over the phone or online. I hired Excel Home Painting to paint several skylights and sloped ceilings at our house in Issaquah. I have very high expectations having grown up in a family with numerous members in the construction industry. The estimate was done quickly and I felt the price was very fair. Not the cheapest but very reasonable. They showed up on time and were even willing to jump right in and move some of our larger furniture pieces out of the way. The job was done quickly and they cleaned up each evening. I fully expected to come home from work to their supplies still out but the house was clean and their supplies all packed away. Both of the painters were very friendly and I felt comfortable having them in our house while we were at work. The job was very professionally done and I would use them again for any other jobs I have in the future. Pleased with using Excel. The estimator Ryan walked through the exterior job we wanted done on our house and the specific details. The estimating was not a sales pitch, like I had gotten from some other companies. They didn't push any deals if I signed today. They walked though what needed to be done (washing, sanding, caulking before painting and painting) We needed some siding work done prior to painting and my usual person was booked. Excel provided some contractors referrals. The referral did an excellent job on the siding. Josh and crew did a great job on the painting and other prep work and left the job site clean at the end of each day. My wife and I were moving back into our town home after it had been rented for 3 years. It wasn't in bad shape, but it did have some wear and tear and we were changing the colors. The estimator was timely and efficient and I received a quote later in the day. I found the pricing to be reasonable and they had their act together compared to some other companies I talked with. They were not the cheapest option but I've had the "cheap" route cost me much more in the long run so I went with who I trusted. We were also on a tight schedule (new paint, new carpet, etc) so the work needed to be done by a certain date and they assured me that wouldn't be a problem. The day of the project Roberto arrived right on time and did a quick walk through with me. He pointed out a few areas with bad lines from the previous painting (full disclosure, it was me!) and explained how he could try and correct them. The work was done earlier than expected and looked AMAZING. The lines were sharp and their was obvious attention to detail. He even looked through our paint in the garage and found our celling paint to touch up some of my bad lines (they were not painting the ceilings.) To top it off, they vacuumed all of the carpeting and it looked like they were never there! I'm a fan and I've already recommended Excel to my friends. Absolutely fantastic. We had two rooms plus an entire basement done by Excel, and we couldn't be happier. Everything from the bid to the finishing cleanup was a pleasure. John and Henry's team did a bedroom, a large den, staircase, and a very large basement/mancave in 2 fast days. They were extremely nice, very prompt, and very careful. We had a brand new wall-to-wall carpet installed a week before they painted, and they took extra good care of it. There was also a hiccup caused by me submitting the wrong paint color, but they jumped on the ball and made my super dumb mistake into a perfect turnaround. My friend already posted about this, but the incident is so outrageous it deserves two postings. On a lovely Sunday afternoon, we were out on a walk and waiting, patiently, on 65th and 1st for the east-west traffic to stop and allow us to cross. When the eastbound traffic was clear, a car heading west stopped to let us cross. Behind this law-abiding driver, heading west, was the Excel Home Painting van. The Excel driver immediately started honking at the car in front of him--you know, the one that stopped to allow pedestrians to cross--and then screaming and cursing at us, including calling us "f**king bitches and whores." Why? Because we were crossing the street. Really? Yes, really. Would you want someone who behaves like this in your home? Would you want to pay a company that hires someone like this? I hope not. Would you continue to employ someone who behaves like this? I hope not. There are plenty of good painters out there. read more

I feel that my experience could have been a lot better. When you pay thousands of dollars for painting, you expect a complete and professional experience. My experience was what I would expect if I hired high school students to paint. I asked them to match paint, but instead, they just bought the color closest to what I had. There were several places where they didn't paint. Any place that was hard to get to, or where wood and stone came together, and it would take more effort to paint properly, they simply skipped. If there was a place where they needed to paint a straight line, instead of taping it off, and ensuring it was a straight line, they just did the best they could with a paint brush. The contract states that if they find any rot, they will fix it at a cost of $85/hr. In my case, they just painted over it. There was a lot of damage to bushes and trees that could have easily been avoided. On the last day, I was asked to make sure I would be there for a walk-through, but then the crew just said they were done and left. So what was the point of asking me to be there? It didn't seem like they wanted to go over what they did. Did they realize they didn't do a complete job? I spent several hours painting areas they missed after they left. When they came back later to pick up equipment, they scraped the ladder against the house, and took off, so I had to repaint that as well. Next time, I'll hire someone else. read more

We have only positive things to say about the Excel (David, Ryan, Rob, et al) team. We received a reasonable assessment of what needed to be done to our two rooms. We wanted to have wallpaper removed from our two project rooms and have the walls skimmed before painting commenced. After the drywall team completed their work, the Excel team came through and found some areas that needed correcting on behalf of the Drywall team. We were very grateful that the Excel folks knew what they were doing enough to catch the work that needed to be completed. The two teams got together and the remaining corrections to the drywall work were made. Once work began, the crew showed up each morning on time, they were meticulous in their attention to detail in both doing the work and protecting our home. The painting was flawless and we are very happy with all aspects of the work. The crew worked very hard. They were also very kind to our curious kids. If you have any doubts if you should hire a pro (Excel) or your Uncle Bob, seriously, choose Excel. The ceilings in our living room and bedroom are beautiful. Our newly skimmed and painted walls of the Bedroom and Living Room are stunning - such a complete difference. I can't say enough good things about this company, but I will try to keep it short and sweet so that everyone will read it :) The service was top notch from the estimate to close. Estimate: Short and sweet, but HIGHLY accurate. We wanted to use our own paint as there was a particular no VOC kind I wanted to use, and this was never an issue for them. They knew exactly how much we needed for the job based on the specs from the website of the company we were ordering it from, so we could order it without issue. The estimate was right inline with two other companies we received quotes from. Customer Service/Scheduling: I ended up being admitted to the hospital about a week or so after we decided to go with Excel, with pregnancy related complications. When they reached out to me as a reminder for the deposit, I explained my situation, and asked for a little more time to see if we could even proceed. Without hesitation, they said this was not an issue. This company cares about the people they are working with, not filling up every single day with a job. We also went back and forth. At first we cancelled, and then we asked for the dates back, and they were so accommodating. The job: It was estimated as a two day job, but they finished in one which immensely helped our situation. I personally haven't seen it yet, but husband say they did an EXCELLENT job. All around, I have never worked with a better company. read more

Excel gets a 5-star rating for the exterior painting project recently completed on our home. After having some siding work done, our house needed two sides and the chimney painted. We researched several companies and were impressed by the positive reviews given by so many Excel customers. Everyone was professional and helpful. Erin in the front office was friendly and made the paperwork a breeze. We were able to schedule a consultation with Ryan right away, and the bid he sent was reasonable and very detailed. There was never any pressure from him (unlike some other companies we considered). David, who oversaw the project, was great to work with, and very accessible if I had questions. I appreciated how he always responded so quickly to my numerous emails, and would notify me who would be coming out to work on the house and when (something we didn't experience with a different company we used years ago). As far as the painting, Sam and his crew did a fabulous job. They were meticulous and carefully cleaned up at the end of each day. Sam kept me updated on his crew's progress throughout the day; they all were courteous and hardworking. Sam was also quite patient when I couldn't decide whether I wanted parts of the front porch painted the body color or the trim color, and he took the time to help me figure out what looked best. We just had the exterior of our house in North Ballard painted by Excel. Ryan did the walkthrough and came up with the estimate. While a bit on the high side, the reviews were good (they did our neighbor's house too). We later found a couple of issues where solid stain was listed on the contract, where transparent stain may have been more appropriate -- unfortunately we didn't know better when we signed, but it turned out to still look great. Overall a minor issue. The crew that actually did the painting was first rate. Henry led the crew and he was a pleasure to work with. They did a fantastic job on the house. Henry was courteous, professional, and communicated well. When we had questions or concerns he was there to listen and assist. He walked us through what they were doing next. And his crew cleaned up perfectly -- not a piece of garbage left on the property. All in all, I found Excel to be a company I'd use again... Make sure to double check that the type of paint/stain specified in contract is what you actually want. And I'd request Henry's team to do our house again, if at all possible. I've used Excel for the exterior paint job on my last two homes, and they've done a great job each time. Working with the team is easy and seamless throughout the entire process. Both homes looked fantastic when their crew was done. When the paint on our cement stairs started chipping the following winter (smooth cement stairs in a high traffic area), Excel was quick to respond and they re-painted the stairs that spring, with a textured grit, for no charge. Almost a year later and no chipping and the stairs are much safer now. They really stand by their work, which is why we continue to use them. read more

I had Excel paint my 1915 craftsman home in Green Lake last summer and am still really happy with the work that they did and the service provided. It was a difficult job and lead based paint that was peeling in areas, so I wanted to make sure that I went with a company that knew how to handle this, which they most certainly did. What was most impressive to me was that Ryan runs his painting business like a business. We had our interior painted by a contractor a few years ago and, while the painting was good, they lacked professionalism. Professionalism wasn't lacking with Excel because of the scheduling, bid process, communication, etc. etc. etc.... The estimate was scheduled professionally and conducted in a really thoughtful manner (lots of good, probing questions and really smart answers to our questions). The proposal that Ryan sent was incredibly detailed and left us really comfortable with what was going to be done. The painting crew (Henry et al) were awesome! They were on time every day, cleaned up perfectly at the end of the workday, and communicated with us on a regular basis. He was so friendly and helpful (he even brought our garbage can out to the street one morning when we had forgotten to do so!). OK, so the biggest thing is the work that was done, right? Yeah, that was awesome. It really needed to be painted and looked awful so I was unsure that it would even look good.... it was perfect. Clean lines, TONS of prep work. Definitely would use them again. We have tried the low bid thing before on our interior and the amount we saved wasn't worth the amount of time we spent dealing with the "contractor." read more

Solicited multiple bids for the job, and while Excel's was higher than we had hoped (though not the highest by a long shot), we ultimately went with them because their bid was very thorough and they seemed professional. Were happy with the choice. Ryan, David & the painters were all easy to work with and clearly wanted to do a good job. The project finished on time with only minor subsequent touch-ups. Please note that they do not advise on color selection themselves, but did refer us to a designer for a consultation, which was $200 well spent. Saved us from a potentially bad bathroom color choice. Wow! What a first class team! We didn't need much painting, just the trim of our house. The estimate was scheduled quickly and the price was extremely reasonable. I wanted to pay for good work, I firmly believe that you get what you pay for! It took about 6 weeks to get on the schedule, but for a company this highly reviewed I decided it was worth the wait. The crew came out on time as promised or they called to let me know they were running late. I was always 100% informed. I was at work on the day they were done painting, so I had to do my own walk-around. While they didn't miss a spot, I did notice they forgot to remove a piece of painters tape from the front of the house! I sent an email and it was gone the next day! Talk about follow-through! It did take a few days to get my final invoice, but I am not concerned by that one bit... I mean really, who doesn't like holding onto their money for an extra day or two? I had hired someone else (based on Yahoo reviews) and had to fire him b/c in dealing with the lead paint on our house,that company was not taking any precautions (for his workers or our property or with the disposal of the toxic waste). Excel did a fine job. One precaution: get another bid or two. I had Excel come in to do 2 accent walls in my new apartment, and from the get go, they were very communicative and professional. Ryan was very patient during the bid process, and once the job was a go, they were quick and did a very clean job. The walls were painted with crisp lines, no mess, and solid paint work. Just some honest, friendly folks at Excel. I can't ask for more. It really feels that they want me to be happy with the results of the work, and though you can probably find someone a little bit cheaper (though to assure you, their bids aren't exorbitant), what you get in customer service and the professionalism of the work is totally worth it. Pretentious about selecting projects. The rep I was on the phone with was scrambling for a way to not book my basic, bread and butter project I had for them. 1st the timing wouldn't work & when I added to the timeline; the work itself was to blame: A basic white paint refresh on a townhome to start with. They flat out told me they are too high priced for me, before I could talk about my budget and give them the full scope of projects I needed done. I could quote them on only wanting to work with people who have "investment projects" and not real estate readying . The sales person didn't even awaken to the fact that the home I am moving into would need will need painting, as I mentioned it was a new build. I would not trust their language about what kind of work they are seeking, Don't waste your time.
