For better or for worse, I have seen more than my share of ERs and hospitals in multiple states. Based on that experience, I say this place lives up to its name. Exceptionally equipped, modern facilities with welcoming entrances, comfortable waiting areas, well designed and efficient flow, comfortable and comforting lighting, spacious triage, er rooms, even more spacious in-patient rooms (like a nice hotel!), on-site lab, radiology, and more. Exceptionally fresh, nutritious, and tasty food with good variety. Exceptionally friendly and efficient service... at ALL levels. But most importantly... EXCEPTIONALLY good people. Everyone we encountered there were calm, tremendously competent, and positive people - passionate about helping others. They make you feel like you're in good hands.. because you are. They make you feel like they've got you when you are in your hour of need.. because they do - they've got you. Be very careful going here. Check your Insurance to make sure this place excepts it! This place tells people "we accept all insurances". NOT TRUE. I check with my insurance, and this place is NOT in network with them! I am too young for Medicare, so I have civilian type insurance. Like I said check with your insurance company before you are seen! Also, FYI...this place is nothing more than a glorified Urgent Care that over charges you! read more

I've been very positive about this organization until today. I thought it was wonderful that you could get triaged and assisted medically within minutes of arrival, versus what it's been like historically at the local hospital. And I told lots of people how great this was. However today was a somewhat different story . We were brought right in and I was hooked up to a monitor, saw a couple nurses and a doctor within a short time. However at one point, after I went to the restroom, (may I mention unattended?), no one ever came back to hook me up to the monitor, bring back the call button mechanism... It had vanished...or help me with the bed rails. It was as if I was a phantom. So for that period of time I saw NO medical personnel, while my husband had stepped away to get a bite to eat. Not good! THIS WAS ABOUT 45 MINUTES TO AN HOUR. WHAT!? Obviously I wasn't feeling well or I wouldn't have been there, so when they suggested I go on to an acute hospital where an MRI could be run sometime that day, I initially agreed, but then after waiting and waiting and waiting for them to come back to even hook up my monitor, for Pete's sake!, I decided I was going to go home instead. A CT had already been done, I felt that was enough for one day. A male nurse named Morgan, was very dismissive at this juncture, and when he came in to remove my IV, He left all the electrodes that were still stuck all over my chest, never even offering to remove them. I had to do it myself! He did a very poor job of leaving us with a good impression. He could have cared less. Dr Gilbert, who was my attending physician at Exceptional, was pretty much the same. In my opinion, he was lacking in bedside manner, also very slow to respond when asked to have dialogue with him about being discharged AMA, or against medical advice. Overall, to summarize, I would say that initially this organization did an outstanding job winning our favor as a wonderful alternative to going to dignity ER. However today, I would say my experience was lacking in multiple areas and not so great. read more

NEVER AGAIN. I cut the back of my hand and needed a few stitches. A friend recommended ECH, so I decided to take the recommendation. They were pretty friendly and, being new, the place was clean and modern looking. I needed four or five stitches, and of course I needed some local anesthetic. That was the extent of it. I didn't pay much attention to this at the time, but the employees had a kind of fast and loose attitude towards supplies and things. The doctor gave me the tools he used to stitch me up. The nurse said I should cover my hand in the shower then reached in a drawer and just gave me like 20 pairs of latex gloves. She didn't think about it, just...here. Then a couple of weeks later, I get the bill. Over $6200 for a few stitches in my hand! Now the employees' lack of regard for supplies makes sense. I'm telling anybody who might need this sort of care (basically, all my friends and some acquaintances) not to go to these thieves. read more

Service is sub-par. Horrific billing department on two occasions. 1. My husband paid over $1000 cash to get the same-day discount for being seen without insurance at the time. I do have a record on my card of this charge. He was then sent a bill for even more months later. When I called they told me we never paid and I am now in the process of submitting my documentation and disputing that. 2. I do have insurance and we called to confirm they took my insurance before I went over. As multiple other reviews here state: they blatantly lie to you about accepting your insurance and will bill you out of network! I got there, they took my temp, swabbed me for covid and flu. Then told me after that regardless of the results it would be a virus and I would be sent home that there's nothing they could do to help me. Having known that I would not have chosen to do the tests necessarily. But after they provided the service then I was told the tests did not matter. Regardless, it was too late. They gave me the results and then sent me on my way after the doctor explained germs to me like I was 5. I later received the bill. Beware: they charge $480 for the nose swab, $133 to talk to the doctor, and then a whopping $5,040 for unknown services as a visit fee - which they are unable to identify any specific service associated with this fee. I am waiting on another department to now re-review and contact me regarding this. If they correct either situation I will update this review but I am not hopeful at this time based on the interaction I have had. Overall the care is sub-par, the doctor is dismissive and condescending, and the communication/billing department is incompetent at best. We will never be back. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Avoid this place unless you have a ton of extra money you are just looking to spend! I visited in Sept. 2025. First thing I did was ask if they were contracted with my insurance, I was told yes and reassured again a few mins later. Fast forward to April of 2026, I get a bill for over $1300. I also discover that they were not in network with my insurance. What I was seen for was minimal-all I received was an injection and 2 pills and they "monitored" me (meaning the staff goofed off at the station while I sat in a room with the curtain closed) for an hour. No IV, no labs, no imaging, and the PA didn't even physically touch me. They billed my insurance well over 6k. $5400 of which was for "ED visit." I requested an itemized bill and again the only explanation for that amount is "ED visit/high urgency." Really? High urgency doesn't seem to classify the nature of my visit or the care I received. You should be able to explain exactly why you are charging what you are! The more I am talking to others in the community, I'm discovering this place is all about profit and their services cost significantly more. They are not held to the same billing practices as a regional hospital. It's not worth the shorter wait times-go somewhere ethical! read more

Great addition to our town! Highly recommend. As many others have mentioned, this is a clean, modern facility with comfortable rooms. Dr. Widener, the nurses, and the entire staff were exceptionally kind, attentive, and thorough. They identified an important complicating factor in my treatment just through thoughtful screening questions and actually reviewing them. The kind of attention to detail that's becoming rare, and it genuinely changed the course of my care for the better. What impressed me even more was that they provided this level of careful, patient-centered treatment while simultaneously managing another patient who appeared to have a very serious, time-critical emergency. Their ability to stay focused, calm, and compassionate with everyone involved speaks volumes about the quality of this team. I'm incredibly grateful for the care I received and the professionalism I witnessed. We are lucky to have this ER in our community. read more

My daughter was at this hospital briefly, and left with influenza a diagnosis. Would you believe, the bill was almost $14,000??? An example of their charges: they charged $227.20 for one extra strength Tylenol. We will NOT be returning. I will gladly pay a fair price for a product or service, but this bill is grossly overpriced. The care that she received was very good, they have great employees.- read more

This was my first hospital visit aside from giving birth to my kids 20+ years ago. I'm not a fan of traditional medicine; however when I found it necessary to go to a hospital, I'm so glad I chose this one. They got me in before I could finish filling out the first page of my paperwork. The staff were great and the facility was very clean and as comfortable as a hospital can be. I was very happy with the entire experience. My nurse called the next day to see how I was doing and a few days after my visit I received a thank you card from the doctor and nurses who were with me during my visit. read more

I wanted to share my experience.. After a frantic emergency call and an ambulance ride to Exceptional Community Hospital, I left frustrated, in pain and in tears. This was my second experience at this hospital, for the same issue. Something that the PA who saw me the first time recommended, should things get worse. My first visit there was not very helpful. They did blood work and a CT, and afterwards I was given a handful of ideas of what could be wrong. I wasn't given any follow-up care instructions besides a pamphlet on "rib pain". Or my liver.. which makes no sense, because the liver is on the right side, not the left. Then- the second visit. I wish, I Wish, I would have recorded audio of the things said to me while I was in that hospital bed. To begin, the attending nurse, Christy B. was personally and professionally out of line from the very beginning, inviting registration in with my top off and scolding me for taking her time up to do an EKG. I kid you not. She said it was standard practice to do an EKG for ambulance arrivals and that this was not an emergency- she had more urgent patients to attend to. Fine. However, I couldn't understand why she was treating me this way. Until I heard her and the Doctor (Dr. Kelly Koson) talking about my treatment in the hall, maybe a few yards away from the bay I was in. Something was mentioned about how I was just there for the pain medicine and how I received it in the ambulance so they weren't doing anything else. No testing, no examination, nothing. Firstly, no one goes to the hospital for the ambiance. For me, there has to be something seriously wrong or in this case, excruciating pain. Secondly, I have never needed, been administered or requested pain meds in an ambulance. I always just tough it out, or drive myself, honestly. But when I reported a 0/10 pain score (EMS gave me Fentanyl. And rightfully so. I had never had it; Of course I felt better), they washed their hands of my care. Which is odd, because just 3 days earlier their colleague said that I should return if things got worse. Im generally pretty healthy, so I expected things to get better. I didn't expect to go back. Ultimately, doing My Own research, I reached the most logical conclusion as Pleurisy, as one of the 3 or 4 possibilities the original PA had listed. Pleurisy usually improves, but is very painful while it's happening. Knowing finally what I was dealing with, gave me some peace of mind, and helped me figure out how to treat myself. Anyways, Koson gave me a diagnosis of liver pain, which again, not on the left side. I don't use the term trauma lightly. But this situation stuck with me for a bit- yes, it was traumatic. Looking back I think they just don't have the skill or resources to deal with more intricate situations- which Pleurisy isn't all that uncommon, but I digress. Anyways, my goal was to rule out anything life threatening (my spleen had been mentioned as one of the possibilities, and I thought maybe it had burst). Which involved me begging the nurses to assess me further. Dr. Koson had since relieved himself of his duties after he spent all of three minutes in the room max, insulting me the entire time. He sat at the end of the hospital bed with his arms crossed, saying nothing. He didn't come bedside, he didn't assess, he didn't suggest anything. Again, why? I had legitimate concerns. The spot under my ribs was a hard mass now and I was scared of the implications. In the end, I left in tears with no answers and very scared. After my experience there, I have spoken to a couple other people that have either brought their child in, or been a patient themselves. Unsurprisingly, they have their own stories. A few days later, after some serious bed rest, I started feeling better and went to retrieve my medical records for my PCP follow up. Dr. Koson had absolutely CYA smeared me in the hospital records, actually including false reporting. Sometimes all you can do is shake your head and warn others. Don't waste your money or your time going to this ER. Instead, I advise you put both towards getting some actual treatment, in a quality hospital, further south or north. read more

The entire staff went out of their way to make sure I was well attended. From intake to the x-ray technician comfortable, explaining what they were doing and what treatment they were administering or prescribing. Wait time was a little long, but my condition was not life threatening and being patient goes a long way. I will definitely be going back if I ever need to see a doctor in an emergency. read more

Had never been. Nice, shiny, new ER facility. Appendicitis or kidney stones, proper radiology discovered some appendix inflammation but not bad. The pain 'was' stones.. never had 'em, don't want 'em again. Nurse B.J. was excellent, communicated, advised well, in fact Doc Corrado was very informative... he did a thorough review, found one absolute cause of pain and another also present but not as causative... Place is exellent. Will make it my primary if ever need ER again. Great work... read more

I'm giving them at two because the nursing staff was very friendly and helpful. I would not recommend this place for much of anything at all. The PA on duty named Ivory Marinakis seemed at first to pay attention to me but When I read my physician chart she did t listen at all. I told her i had had a dull headache for days, blurry vision, tingling on my right side and drank plenty of water but that maybe I needed electrolytes. In my report she stated that the patient had not complained of headaches, and that I don't drink enough water, no mention of pain in my neck or tingling on my right side. I would not come here or recommend this place to anyone. read more

Don't go here. My wife was treated rudely by a nurse who used profanity with her. He asked her why she could not have waited another day to see her primary care doctor instead of coming to the hospital even though she had chest pains and high blood pressure. At the time of her discharge they refused to bill Medicare our primary coverage and charged a $250 copay. I have called to get an explanation and I might as well be dealing with the IRS. They want to fill out a form and wait a month for an explanation. read more

**** EDITING TO UPDATE **** **** ADDING 2 STARS BECAUSE OF THE SWIFT RESPONSE FROM ADMINISTRATION **** I am amending this review to say that while this ordeal was still horrible, I called the next day and was directed to speak with Vern McKinney, Chief Nursing Officer. Vern was extremely kind and helpful. He listened to my concerns, apologized for my experience, and actually spoke to the people involved including the security guard. He then made sure to call me back and assure me that in the future, they will be handling things "from a place of curiosity" and try to help the situation and de-escalate rather than go strictly by what the front desk people say their impression was and escalate things in an aggressive manner. Although I still don't understand what I did to have caused the front desk girl to feel whatever negativity toward me, I am happy to know that Exceptional Community's administration actually does care about patient experiences and handled the situation appropriately. This was the absolute worst experience I have ever had at a hospital. If I could give zero stars I would. I brought my daughter in for pain she was having after a minor procedure. After over 3 hours of waiting, I went to the front and asked the person working if there was any idea on when we would be called back. I only asked this because the triage nurse had told us an hour and a half prior that my daughter would "be taken back before all the coughs and sneezes," alluding to the sick people all over the waiting area. Every single person in the room was then taken back before her. Literally every single person. After being informed that there was no idea regarding when she would be seen, I went to my car because I could feel an anxiety attack coming on (multiple unrelated reasons). I went to my car, had my panic attack, calmed down, left to get gas, came back, and was then approached by a security guard WHILE I WAS STILL IN MY CAR to inform me that I "was not allowed back inside, or the police would be called," based on me being in my car crying. According to the security guard, I had "scared the workers." There was ZERO reason for this as far as I am concerned. Not only did I take it upon myself to go out to my car, I did not see or speak to anyone else, and had NO intention of going back inside, as evidenced by my just sitting in my running car with the heater on. I told him I didn't understand, and that I wasn't planning on going back in. He just said, "Good, because the police will be called." I am genuinely appalled at this horrendous treatment. I was unaware that removing myself and having an anxiety attack and crying BY MYSELF IN MY CAR could result in them contacting the police to arrest me. For what, exactly?? This was an absolutely inappropriate action to have taken, especially as I had absolutely zero thought of going back inside. I will NEVER return to this place and will discourage everyone I know from doing so as well. I never said or did anything to anyone here, beyond ask the person at the front if there was any ETA for calling my daughter back and my face probably looking pissy (reasonable, as we had been lied to by a nurse and sitting there for hours with a bunch of coughing and sneezing patients). I left when I felt my anxiety rising. And then they had the audacity to approach me in MY OWN vehicle, motion for me to roll my window down and then tell me not to come back inside or they would call the cops on me. How disgusting. I would recommend NEVER coming here unless you want to be lied to about wait times and threatened with police action for, quite literally, sitting in your own vehicle and crying through an anxiety attack. Had to go to the ER for a broken elbow. They were very rough in taking the xrays and proceeded to tell me that nothing was broken, only an "effusion of the joint". Went back home, went to orthopedic dr. and had FOUR shattered bones and a torn ligament and required surgery asap. How do you miss FOUR broken bones????? read more

My husband went here because he believed he had Shingles. The facility was NOT busy. It still took 3 hours to be seen/diagnosed etc. Poor patient flow. The diagnosis was wrong! The attending physician "pinched" his rash hard, and said this is not Shingles, if it was, you would jump thru the roof! We were shocked that he would do this. Drugs were ordered, as well as ointments, bandages etc. as the physician decided it was a staff infection. Highly contagious, and we should scrub it, bandage, it, change clothes, towels, etc. frequently. When we went to pick up the meds, it was for an EAR INFECTION! We called back to Exceptional Community Hospital and they said, oh, sorry sorry, we will call in something else. It was eventually called in after three requests, and it was only for an over-the-counter salve. When we questioned them, again, we were told there was nothing documented in his medical chart! We went to another facility. The diagnosis was indeed Shingles. We were doing more harm than good with what we had been instructed to do. Different meds, don't cover, don't wash, don't put ointment on etc. Days lost, and more pain, expense, than needed. Glad this wasn't a "life threatening" illness. Plenty of other options. We would NEVER go to Exceptional Community Hospital again. It is Exceptionally BAD. read more

My boyfriend was diagnosed with a gallbladder infection recently. Everyone was very nice. I do have one negative thing to mention. The male assistant who put his IV in was bragging jokingly that he could put them in with his eyes closed. Well guess what? It was causing all kinds of issues with monitor alarms, etc. they discovered it was put in incorrectly when his arm and hand swelled up. It was causing a fluid backup in his lower arm and hand. They removed it and put one in his other arm in Phoenix. read more

The good news is the facility is very nice and new, and the wait time was zero. But I don't go to the ER for the environment, I go for the quality of care -- and that was pitiful. I went in with pain very low in my abdomen, like around the bladder. After four hours there, they sent me home with a diagnosis of urinary tract infection with blood in the urine, and put me on antibiotics. Turns out, their own lab urinalysis says there was no abnormal amount of blood or bacteria in my urine! The PA and the Doc apparently ignored the lab results. Furthermore, the only way to make a definitive diagnosis of a urinary tract infection is with a urine culture, which they DID NOT DO (although they told me they were going to do it!). There were also many incorrect things in my chart. So, they didn't do the one test they should have done, and they did do other lab bloodwork that seemed excessive and unnecessary -- like a triponin to see if I'm having a heart attack when my pain is down by my bladder! Maybe they have to rule out a heart attack for everyone, but what a waste of medical care services and money! CYA medicine at its finest. They had no interest in listening to the patient, either to get a history or to discuss the care. Although it was nice be seen immediately, I will certainly never go back there. read more
