A little challenging to find and an excellent discovery! Place is hidden inside the Sweets Laboratory shop in the back. The treatment specialist is extremely professional and courteous. Place is spotless, treatment process is well explained. The only challenge is the quantity of treatments required to remove hair is hard to gauge and depends on how the area and hair react - how much is growing back and how thick. They have frequently promotions so I recommend paying as needed rather than buying many sessions in advance also because the quantity of sessions needed can vary. read more

Firstly, I had a LOT of reservations about getting hair removed permanently. I guess I didn't want to feel vain about it. But if I continue to shave, wax, and feel obliged to maintain my body hair then I may as well do it once and then never again. I went in after reading what at the time were only two reviews. The staff was sooooo friendly. They all had smiles on their faces and were more than eager to be helpful. The ladies that took care of me we so sweet and just very pleasant. they even gave me a mini crash course of what my options were in laymen terms. also, we talked in private, so i felt totally ok about asking all the hard questions and throughout i was never made to feel silly for asking, nor unattractive for having to. the place itself was very clean, spacious. the rooms were comfortable. the laser was performed so quickly I was truly surprised how fast. it took no time. i went on errands and did not feel any discomfort at all. I merely felt a slight tingle during the laser hair removal; about the same one would feel if u put an ice cube on a freshly shaved armpit- cool and surprising, but not altogether unpleasant. definitely not painful. I must say, however, that after the 1st time, she mentioned that she was going to increase the strength of the laser. And boy did I feel the difference. It hurt like a mo-fo. But I would still recommend it. She did everything she absolutely could to help me out. I made an appointment, after I noticed the ads in Chopsticks, Yelp.com or even the Japanese Weekly Newspapers. I like the price, and the technician actually took off $25 from the price of my treatment, that I signed up for six sessions. The consultant this time was the technician as well. This place is located across from the street from Macy's Herald Square, so that was close to transit. There was a sign mentioning about paying at least 15-29% gratitude to the technician. I also recieved insturctions for post treatment after my treatment was over. The workers there are all Japanese, so there was some moments that I asked them to repeat their instruction. It was all right though. One thing I was quite disappointed by was the fact that they couldn't laser remove for hair on the bottom part of the eyebrow, they did mention that the laser was too close to the eye, so they couldn't treat that area... so I am now trying to find a better solution. Even though you can walk in, when you call them, they actually prefer it for people to have appointments. But so far.. I like it.. and would recommend it to be to check out this place. read more

The most painless laser treatment EVER. (Granted, I've had many laser sessions elsewhere before stumbling upon Excy) The prices are very competitive but at the same time, you don't really want to skimp either as I've been BURNED at another unnamed salon. In true Japanese fashion, I didn't find the white interior to be sterile but spacious and calming. Also, there aren't actual 'rooms' in the back; spaces are separated by curtains... which could be an issue for the painfully shy. +1 star for: typical giggly Japanese staff.... with my pants down. I would recommend Excy Laser to everyone. I booked counseling and actual treatment separately. On the day of counseling, a female staff listened my concern very carefully, and made a plan that fits me. She explained very detail and it was clear. Today was actual treatment and was my very first time of laser hair removal. I was so nervous. Was my shaving good enough? My naked body? What should I do if I sweating during the treatment? How much is the pain? Before the treatment, a female staff explained again which part is going to be shot by laser. This was good because I was able to confirm. During the treatment, laser was not painful than I expected. The body parts with more fat was no pain (hip and boobs), but the ones with less fat was painful (back, Brazilian). However, when she shots that painful areas, she made a pause after three shots like 1, 2, 3, pause if I groaned or screamed. This allowed me to take a breath and let the pain go. This way was so good. She knows how I feel. After the treatment, I directly went to Hanamizuki cafe, which is the same floor of Excy Laser to have a lunch. At that time, I already forgot how much the pain was. So don't worry the pain though it depends person. Overall, customer service was excellent, room was clean, and restroom was clean. I just finished an 11 month long, six appointment session of Brazilian, under arm, and lower leg. Is it painful? Yes! But worth it. I researched so many laser spas in Manhattan and I'm glad that I chose this place based on price, staff, and quality of work. The price and quality of work cannot be beat. I felt like I got my money's worth and was able to pay the 3 body part package over two appointments (a couple months apart). The atmosphere of the spa is so Japanese- clean, simple, and beautiful. It's true the staff does not speak perfect English, but I don't think it matters because neither do any of the nail salons I go to! The employees are extremely patient and understanding about how painful the lasers are and make sure to give you time to recuperate after some particulary sensitive areas. I will have to go back for a missed nickel-sized spot, but I don't mind too much because the salon is located in Herald Square so I can easily pop into the many clothing stores around the area. I tried another laser hair removal salon downtown (a lifebooker deal), but I plan on getting my arms done next and will stick with Excy. read more

The technicians make the experience as comfortable as possible and work with you to answer any questions during your treatment. During the treatment, I did not experience any extreme pain - just mild discomfort. They shoot a stream of cold air while lasering and countdown each laser zap, which helps manage the discomfort. Post treatment, I have not experienced any rash, burn or pain. If you're considering laser treatment, I highly recommend this place. Don't go anywhere else! Amazing service. I've been going to Excy for almost 2 years. Although this is not permanent hair removal, it does lessen the amount of hair the grows over time. The staff is amazing and friendly. The facility is clean and tranquil, but not overly "stuffy" if you know what I mean. The prices are great compared to other popular hair remove locations in NYC. I travel from Long Island for my sessions because they have the YAG laser which is approved for darker skin tones (African American, tanned, or Indian) This was very important to me because, 1. I'm black, 2. I didn't want my skin to be burned. Before finding excy, I have done plenty of consultations only to be disappointed because the technician said she cant accommodate my skin tone. Which i gladly accepted because I wouldn't want them to lie to me for the sake of fearing the race card. Who wants their skin burned?! Not me... When I found excy I put the politically correct stuff behind and I asked them upfront, can you take care of black skin?! And they said yes and showed me pictures of past clients and their results. I booked my appointment on the spot. I love excy and I will continue going to them for my session. *Warning* Do not go for a session on or near your period, or after drinking alcohol. It has something to do with the blood vessels be enlarged or something, (don't quote me on that) but from personal experience it was more painful around that time. I did here last year full Brazilian and underarms. 6 sessions. Got great price. And then after you are done they charge you only half the price for any follow ups. I do have a lot of hair so I knew it won't be enough for me. I am about to call them again to schedule some more appointments. I would say that right now I have about 30% of hair left. I don't really have the need to shave myself "down there" at all. As the hair is very thin now and grows much slower. I till shave about once a week my underarms just bc I don't like hair. As for pain. It was ok. It didn't matter for me if I was on my period or not. It did hurt but nothing crazy. The stuff was always friendly and happy. The technicians were funny. I rotated between two of the technicians between all my visits and as they were treating my Brazilian we were talking about bf, sushi and kids. Awesome subjects to kill time. They once told me they won't make the procedure bc I am too tanned - it was summer, and that it would be simply a waste of my money if I decided to proceed that day. So this place is great. I came across this place on my way to work on day. This was my first experience with laser hair removal, and I couldn't ask for a better place. The staff was welcoming and friendly. They took me through the steps and how the laser process works. I must say that the process is not as painful as I had imagined it would be. Just a bunch of little pinches for a short amount of time...DEFINTELY worth it. After the first session, I already noticed significant differences, and now, after my fourth treatment, the hair is gone! Amazing service & staff. I chose EXCY because a few friends of mine insisted that if you're going to do laser, you want to choose a place that is run by people with the same type of skin as yours! I trust the japanese have delicate skin and thus won't scorch mine off with some super laser. The price was great, I got a deal that brought my underarms and brazilian to just about $800 (6 sessions each). The technicians make you very comfortable and know how to make conversation because they've done this a billion times and know exactly what to say! They're super friendly and professional. 15-20% tip is suggested per session which is fine considering the great work they do. Booking appointments can get annoying sometimes as it has to be done way ahead of time. But they give their technicians ample time with each customer so they aren't inundated with ppl and therefore won't do a shoddy job. I don't know why this isn't obvious to some people who complain that they aren't able to get an appointment on the same week. This is permanent laser, people! Do you want them to rush!? Lastly, I have to say my hair removal results were beyond satisfactory. No, you can never expect 100% permanent removal. But just one session (The first one) makes a difference. I noticed after my first session that 70% of my hair was gone and didn't come back. Afterwards it was harder and harder to get results but it's definitely 90% gone and I haven't had to come back in two years for maintenance. I know I will have to go in for a touch up soon and anyone who expects 100% removal simply knows nothing about lasering. read more

At first it's a little intimidating, (all the white walls and wacky furniture which I loved) but they make you feel right at home. I have been researching many facilities in manhattan and most seem to be a scam. They wont talk about pricing, and it varies via the patient. They try and lure you in, but not EXCY!!! They are upfront about pricing and have a special almost too good to be true. $855 for 6 sessions for brazilian and underarm. I had an amazing tech named Amy who was very knowledgable, answered all questions and concerns including references to prior experiences, and was friendly, warm, and funny. I did try numbing the area prior, but it wasn't as strong as it should have been. I learned to book for a later appt so that i can come in and have it properly numbed. I have zero pain tolerance and was pleasantly surprised.I also learned that ingrowns are going to hurt worse, so i wont be shaving for a while until the morning of to prevent said issue. Customer service was a five, cleanliness a five, decor a five, and of course price was a five. I will not be patronizing other businesses when this one is excellent as can be! read more

I had three treatments at Excy with great results. After my fourth was not as effective in removing the hair, I called the owner who said I could come in for a touch up. When I arrived, the technician was adamant that I was wrong in asking for a touch up and was not willing to listen to me. It shocked me that the technician was not agreeing to what the owner had promised to me over the phone, and pretty much wasted my time in coming downtown for the appointment. I decided to leave and will not be returning. Afterwards, I got more information on Excy from other laser centers and I regret coming here in the first place. Next time I will spend the extra $$ if it means I will get better results and superior customer service. Needless to say, I will be going to another business to finish up my treatments. LADIES! and some gentleman-(who is interested on doing laser hair removal) I found The Place -. This is my first place- but Will BE the last place- because it is soo GOOD and CHEAP! I was looking for a place to do laser for half of year- most of places do not show price on website- and it was scary to go in there and ask how much. If its too cheap- I thought the service would be bad.... I found Excy Laser by Japanese magazine! It just opened February 2008! They are giving the best discount price - $240 for 6 session(1 year) for under arms. (it is usual $400) Japanese plp usually give great service- so I made an appointment. I did once so far- but result is obvious! I didn't have to shave my armpit for a month! Awesome! (some people may not be so obvious- they told me , thicker and darker hair could have better result-) First timers have to have free consultation ( about 15 min of explaining what Laser hair removal is...) I have been going to Excy now for a little over a year and can now give an accurate review, since laser hair removal is definitely a lengthy process. This place is truly a gem. It's tucked away behind a little Japanese cafe, hidden from street traffic. But inside it is cozy and low key and definitely has that Japanese aesthetic about it. I was a laser newbie prior to Excy but was immediately sold after my first Brazilian bikini treatment and bought a 6 session package at a discounted rate. There are always specials and deals, so don't necessarily go by the prices offered on the website. My hair type is dark and fine and there isn't a lot of it, but I was just really tired of waxing. The first session had the most dramatic effect, I had 50% hair reduction just after doing it once. Every subsequent time afterwards wasn't quite as dramatic but after a year and 6 sessions, I have less than 20% of my hair in that area left (all of the hair is super baby thin). No ingrowns, no skin discoloration, no irritation, nothing. Not needing to deal with bumps and ingrowns has been such a dream. They also offer a steep discount to do your ahem "butt area" if you are getting a Brazilian. That is considered a separate area and not included with the Brazilian. The normal price is $120 per session for just the "butt area" but they offered to do it for an extra $30 per session, which was a great deal. I've also done my upper lip twice here. Again, I am not a super hairy person to begin with so it only took 2 sessions to get rid of every single hair on my upper lip. Amazing. All the laser techs are really nice and really gentle and make you feel comfortable, even as you're lying half naked on a table with your legs spread lol. Just really good Japanese customer service, if you've ever been to Japan you know what I'm talking about. Super polite, warm, honest and simply top notch. The staff is just absolutely wonderful. As for the actual procedure...I'm not sure if this is typical with all hair laser machines, but the one they use at Excy has some sort of air blowing attachment connected to it that blasts freezing air to numb the area before, during, and after the laser passes across your skin. It really helped to minimize the pain, I felt very little pain except for the sensitive inner areas. Every session took less than 15 minutes. I have average pain tolerance, but if you just take a couple of deep breaths it's over before you know it. Most things you'll read online compare it to a rubber band snapping hard on to your skin, and that's pretty accurate. It's not anymore painful than waxing or epilating, or even a piercing. Less painful than a tattoo, if that helps to gauge the pain level. I also like that they keep records of your hair growth so that they can adjust the power of the laser with every session according to how your hair/skin reacts to it. Highly recommend this place! White wall, modern black chandelier, and professional yet friendly Japanese staff welcoming you. I have never had great experience such as amenities, treatment, and mostly, the price over there. I have done with under arms which was 50% off of regular price. That was my 1st laser treatment in my life. I was very nervous, but I was surprised it wasn't painful than I expected and didn't take long at all. (maybe it was about 10 minutes) No burn. No redness. [short version] I've decided to go elsewhere because during my last visit when I had my 2nd brazilian bikini, I felt extremely uncomfortable. A technical (and a trainee) literally held my legs up in the air to treat the area. It was obvious that they didn't know what they were doing. They should've asked me to lie on my stomach. [long version] I'm male and had several body parts treated at Excy over the past few years. I bought a package (6 sessions) for my beard after I was persuaded that, after undergoing all the sessions, the result would be permanent. Turns out I had to made 7th, 8th and even 9th visits, yet there's still some hair left today. They will ask for half the price after the 6th session, but doing some research I started wondering if I had gone elsewhere and paid more, I could have gotten more effective treatments. Another reviewers mentioned this also, but I too find one of the receptionists rude. I gave a tip based on my package price upon my first visit, which was my mistake but I still had to give a tip each time. They also made mistakes in both calculating and quoting my total prices when I had several parts done in one visit. The owner seems to be nice but if you exchange a few words with her, you see she has no class at all. Desperate attempts to make money is too visible, but they should be improving customer services and satisfaction first. I've been there past Thursday, looking for some nice place to continue my laser treatment, since I move from another city where I was doing it, I needed to find some new place in NY. I go to excy since long time, the first treatment i had was with AYAKO many years ago and i had to say excellent job, hair completely gone . Lately though with other areas and new technicians i see that i require many many more session and it is becoming really costly. How come? i am not sure if it is a technician or machine issue or low laser light or they want you to come more often but i noticed the difference so much I am thinking to look for a new place. They are lovely , very polite . But i guess it is true that laiser hair removal is only a reduction and not permanent. After two months i finished 6 sessions full legs the hair is growing back. Thinner and lighter color but still growing back, especially on knees and upper outside leg area. So what am i supposed to do now? I am sooo sad It is true that in between sessions they completely disappeared and i was so happy and ready to purchase more packages from them but now, i thought i was done with hair for good but m not so sure anymore! Amazing! I completed 6 sessions of brazilian & inner thighs. Most of hair was gone after the 3rd session. They use Cynosure and go via every single spot of your treatment area. My sessions were an hour long (I applied prescribed Lidocaine/prilocaine cream an hour prior and didn't feel anything!! It is a 'must' otherwise very painful). They don't have any groupon deals, but most of those spas are not reliable anyway, just waste of money (went to 'skin spa' on 21st str once - it was a joke, they use the portable small machines, the technician Kate spent 10 mins on my lower legs, hair grew back 2 days after). Back to Excy - the place is super clean, people are very polite (it's in their culture) and professional. Bottom line - you get what you pay for!!! It's your body, don't save money on it! read more
