I went on Sunday, 8/30 and was told I had a blood clot somewhere you don't want one, and if it was not gone after 3 days of hot soaks to come back and the doctor would drain it. I made an appointment to have the clot drained today. A woman at Exer called me and told me the doctor who told me to come back was the only one at the practice wiling to do it, and was only there once a month... so I would have to go to the ER. I called around and no other Exer would help me. I called this location back to ask when next month the dr. would be back, as I have PTSD with ER's (I began to cry). I explained they had tried to force me off my pain meds because they disagreed with my doctor, and they refused to call my doctor when he sent me there for an emergency. The Exer employee told me not every doctor would treat me that way, and I should try HOAG Neport or UCI. I explained Hoag was the one that refused to call my pain doctor and tried to force me off my meds (I have had bad experiences at both UCI Orange and UCI Pacentia Linda this year). I was then told if I have a bad history with ER doctors I should consider getting a specialsit and they could do this in office. I told her my last visit to UCI my SPECIALIST told me to go to the ER and have them call him - they refused to call him, told me it wasn't an emergency, gave me anxiety meds, and sent me home. In the end she told me to go to my GI doctor who also books me weeks out for urgent care. I understand the doctor is not there today; however if someone is sobbing, telling you they have PTSD, do not callously suggest they get a specialist without asking if they have one - I have a whole team who wouldn't take care of this, and the EXER DOCTOR TOLD ME TO COME BACK. I told this worker that Exer advertises as an ER alternative and her words were "we are JUST an urgent care." Also, Exer on 17th will tell you they don't have x-ray services and refer you here. This was by far one of the worst medical experiences I have ever had. Exer Urgent Care demonstrated a lack of professionalism and complete disregard for patient care. When I expressed concern about my condition and requested a blood test, the doctor dismissively told me it was "not necessary" and that doing it would only be "to make me happy." This is not just rude -- it is irresponsible and deeply concerning. Patients come in for help, not to be brushed off with sarcasm. The situation only got worse from there. The first nurse was unable to find a vein and casually told me that they "couldn't do it today" because of that. That is honestly shocking. Finding a vein is one of the most basic skills in healthcare -- if that cannot be done, it raises serious concerns about the level of training at this facility. Then a second nurse came in, and the experience somehow became even more disturbing. His technique was unsteady and inexperienced. When I asked if he was sure he had found a vein, he said: "you can never be sure." I was absolutely stunned. Hearing that from a medical professional is unacceptable and frankly terrifying. Both of my arms were punctured, and BOTH attempts failed. I was left with unnecessary pain, and to make matters worse, I was not even given proper aftercare materials or instructions to prevent bruising or complications. The entire process felt careless, chaotic, and almost like a joke to the staff. At no point did I feel taken seriously or properly cared for. Do NOT ever go here. I went in October 28th 2025 paid my copay and left. I get a bill today (March 17th 2026) asking for 271$ because apparently they didn't bill the right insurance group or some BS. I had my insurance Blue Cross Blue Shield of CA call their billing department to get that sorted and they will not rebill so we could get it on my insurance. They are cooks in the building. Take your 271$. I will never come back here and will warn others to as well. You the reader have been warned. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS AND UNPROFESSIONAL!! I called twice before driving 40 minutes to this office specifically because I am sick and needed to be seen. I made it very clear that I needed to confirm whether they accepted my insurance before making the drive. During my call, I asked point-blank, "Do you accept my insurance? I can give you my member ID." I had also uploaded my insurance information online. The employee put me on hold, came back, and confirmed that they accepted my insurance. So imagine my frustration when I drive 40 minutes to the office, only to be told at the front desk that they do not accept my insurance. When I explained that I had specifically called and confirmed this beforehand, the employee told me "Oh yeah you spoke to me, but I think you mistook what I said." Excuse me? How exactly could I have "mistaken" a direct answer to a yes or no question? I specifically asked whether they took my insurance, waited while she checked, and was told yes. There was absolutely nothing ambiguous about that conversation. Then another employee came over and started explaining that their insurance list had apparently changed over the weekend. Ok and? this is something your office should have communicated or verified before confirming to a patient that their insurance was accepted. What was the girl even doing when she put me on hold? Checking her phone? Instead, I drove 40 minutes while sick for absolutely no reason. What made the situation even worse was the complete lack of accountability. Not one genuine apology. No attempt to help me find another location, no effort to make the situation right,just essentially telling me to call somewhere else. People who are sick should not have to waste hours driving to an appointment because a medical office cannot properly verify insurance information over the phone. If your insurance policies changed, update your system and make sure your staff knows what is and isn't accepted before confirming it to patients. This was incredibly frustrating, inconvenient, and completely unprofessional. I would absolutely think twice before making the drive here. read more

Not a pleasant first time experience. Went in for a severe cold/cough and told the PA that my mucus is green. Was told by the PA to take over the counter medicines. Next day went to my regular Dr. and was prescribed antibiotics. Complete disregard for patient care. Would not go here again and would not recommend this location to anyone. read more

The bad part was waiting an hour since I checked in and I had to make a copayment for trash service that only took 10 minutes to complete, but took 30 minutes of sitting g there waiting inside. The doctors and nurses have such a nasty attitude it's obvious that you're an inconvenience to them when you talk to them. They truly do not care about who comes in and out. I asked for a doctors note and she gave me the nastiest attitude asking how many days I need it for. Wouldn't the doctor know how many recommended days I would need off? Do not waste your time here. Not all urgent cares are created equal. I called ahead of time to explain an issue my sister was having just to confirm it was something they could see. This place gets two stars because the gentleman on the phone was very nice. He said it was an issue they could see, so we drove 20 minutes. Check in process was fairly simple done electronically. We were the third in line after check in. However it wasn't until 30 minutes later they told us that they couldn't see this issue and to go to the ER, this was right around the time they were closing. The explanation wasn't really adequate, other than I assume because it was close to closing they probably didn't want to deal with it. It's just frustrating that our time was wasted and we would have gone to ER if it wasn't something they could deal with. read more

I came here for a lab test and they literally messed it up twice. I had to come back THREE TIMES because these people couldn't do their job correctly. not only that, but 3 months after I was given a bill for $200 because apparently my insurance address was rejected. Treatment: Too many medications given without proper explanation. Some of them are not even recommended by research anymore. Before me there were roughly 10 more patients in line and it takes us roughly one hour to wait for the doctor. I first needed to fill the form but I don't understand why I should send my insurance card to one of 10 emails the staff provided. She became so impatient and said she already explained twice. Finally I saw the doctor and rule out the cases of covid. The second day they called me for additional lab results asked me to take more water and have more rest. But I didn't get better afterwards and have to see another doctor. read more

I brought my son and daughter in for their school sports physicals, expecting a routine visit and a professional experience. What happened instead left my son in tears and me absolutely heartbroken and furious. My son is legally blind and has a prosthetic eye. Despite this, he is an incredibly determined, athletic young man who participates in both cross country and swimming. When the doctor, Amber Payne, asked what sports they were planning to do, my children proudly said, "Cross country and swimming." Instead of offering encouragement or simply moving on with the exam, the doctor turned to my son and, in a condescending tone, asked, "How are you going to do that?"--as if his disability made it impossible for him to participate. My son was so taken aback that he didn't even respond. I immediately stepped in and explained that he uses aids, and that he's already been participating in sports successfully. The doctor looked surprised--as if the idea of a visually impaired child being an athlete was somehow shocking. There was no apology, no reassurance, no sensitivity. Just awkward stumbling and discomfort. She quickly finished the exam after that, and I was left wondering how someone in her position could be so lacking in compassion or basic understanding. My son cried in the car on the way home. He's now questioning if he even should keep doing sports--something he loves. No child should ever leave a doctor's office feeling less than. This experience was not only unprofessional, it was deeply insensitive. I'm writing this so no other child or family has to go through what we did. read more

Treatment - efficient and successful We went here in Jan when my teen daughter had a fever and bad cough and her usual doctor was booked up. Exer Irvine (University Town Center) has a large waiting room and only one other person on a winter Saturday. Paperwork went quickly and was charged $90 up front. Saw a nurse quickly and then a PA. Did a flu and covid test and quickly got results and a prescription for Tamiflu. Billing - shockingly expensive They charged insurance more than $600 dollars for this visit. Our insurance luckily paid some but the final charge to us was over $300. We have paid a lot of doctor and specialist bills over the years, but never heard of such a high charge! There was no notice of the charge, no itemized bill, just saw it on my statement a month later. I called Exer's front desk and they referred me to their billing department. Could not get through. Left a message and never heard back. Exer billing dept's automated system suggests that you check with insurance (seems like a common issue?) I did and my insurance thought maybe the visit was coded incorrectly. They tried to call Exer billing dept. and were on hold for more than 15 minutes twice. They also never got through. Very surprising and disappointing. Exer urgent care - PLEASE change your billing practices and improve customer service. Be transparent with costs. There are plenty of other urgent cares around and you WILL NOT have repeat customers with these practices! read more

If you want to get service, avoid this branch at all costs. The only smooth process was the registration. The rest was bad. A little background. I'm prone to sinus infections so I get them regularly during the cold months. I know what brings them on, recognize the symptoms, how long to wait to make sure I'm not reacting to viral symptoms etc. On this occasion, I visited the Irvine office and was attended by Nurse Practitioner Joanne Fierro (that's correct, not a doctor) who did not appear to want to be there. After her quick assessment she determined she would not be treating me for anything infection related. This was despite anything I had to share about my symptoms (soarness, tiredness that lasted over 7 days similar to all my previous infections, etc). My options, if I wanted to pay for them, was to conduct additional tests. That was it. That was the extent of the service. At this point I told the nurse practitioner in clear terms I was not even close to happy with what she tought "providing service" meant. To this she responded "well that is your opinion". Customer opinions don't matter here. Don't reward bad Urgent Care clinics that don't understand why they are in business. Avoid them like I will. read more

I just went in to Exer for the first time, and I have to say I was very pleased with the care they took. My PCP was unable to see me today and due to my symptoms they recommended I go to urgent care today. I walked in, no appointment, I filled out paper work(1page- new patient). I was registered within ~7min. They did warn me that 4 people were ahead of me. When I was called in, they walked me to my room, took my vitals and i waited less 5min for the PA to see me. I went in complaining about chest congestion that I have had for a week. After hearing my lungs a chest xray was ordered, which was done on site, and had the physician was able to review results as soon as I got back to my room and sat down. The physician recommended a steroid shot( that was administered on site as well) to help with my symptoms, also recommended a nasal swab, which I did, results in 24hrs. And Prescribed antibiotics. I was in and out within 1 hr. Very clean facility, even the restroom in the waiting room was very clean. Definitely recommend this urgent care! Stay healthy! read more

I paid $25 for my copay and then about a month later got a bill in the mail for a urine test which wasn't even optional, they had everyone coming in take it. I came here to get "sport physical clearance" for a high schooler. They informed me how much my visit will cost and I paid upfront. My issue with them is they billed me tripled (!) the amount they quoted me upfront. I had no idea they can switch it like that without any mentioning during the visit. I got the additional bill in mail. I tried to call my insurance. They told me they can't do anything about it. I'll never go there as I feel they just want to trick you and make money on you. It has been 4 months since my last visit to EXER at UTC in Irvine. Unfortunately I had the same symptoms but was treated in just the same outstanding, professional, caring way. 3 prescriptions were called in immediately to my pharmacy and I was home - with my new meds - all in under an hour. We have been here multiple times for different reasons and every visit has been greeted with friendly and attentive desk staff, nurses, and doctors. Yes, just like majority of doctor office and urgent care visits sometimes there is a wait but when it is your turn, they take their time to be thorough in asking questions, checking vitals and symptoms, and so forth. I have never felt like we were treated too abruptly or quickly but with alot of patience and care! Definitely recommend this place for same day needs! They have a new waiting system where they will let you know what number in line you are and will text you ask you get closer to being next. It's super convenient if you want to wait in your car or just walk around the plaza! read more

I've unfortunately had to visit urgent care a small handful of times in the past few years with everything that was going around, plus a couple of COVID tests. It's never somewhere that you want to go, but my experience has been great here at Exer. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful, the nurses/PA's are knowledgeable, and the doctors are really impressive. I've seen three different ones and all have had great bedside manner, but more importantly really have taken the time to understand what is going on and the best way to approach it. All have been quite friendly and educational as well and I appreciate the willingness to give me a lot of information. It's never seemed rushed as it does as many other medical offices. For what it's worth, my average wait time has probably been 15-20 minutes with the longest being ~45, so would rate it pretty highly on that front as well. read more
