I can't say enough good things about our experience. The staff were incredible. The whole time we felt welcomed and enjoyed a good laugh. Every aspect was so thought out and there was someone ready to welcome or guide us to the next place. There was some time after they performed and it allowed us to walk around, get drinks, get temporary tattoos, make bracelets and play games. We requested a vegetarian meal and they gave us a large meal with a couple of substituted items from the meat options. We left full. The drinks were also delicious. This is an amazing experience. This is not the big broadway production Luau. If you are looking for that, look elsewhere. This is small, intimate and authentic. This experience is on an honest to goodness farm, on a mountain, and run by a farmer who lives on the property. The experience is shared by about 50 people and a staff of 8. That's it. Disclosure - This is the only luau I have been to, but I have seen others (like at a hotel) as I walked past. My impression is that this was more authentic than most (they claim to be one of the few who offer LauLau as part of their buffet), which seems true. It is also smaller (and therefore more intimate) than the big production at other places. They also offer a ride service to pick you up and drop you off later, which saved the price of an Uber ride. Speaking of which, the driver was entertaining and educational - a significant part of my total satisfaction with the experience. The cons. The "crew" was only about 12 people, and they do everything from greeting to serving you food to doing the fire dance. They mostly looked like grad students for Hawaiian studies. If what you want is lots of pretty dancing girls and fierce warriors, look elsewhere. That being said, their fire dance was far from amateur, but it's obvious these folks are "jack of all trades, and master of none." If you are looking to gorge yourself on Hawaiian food, you may be disappointed. If you want LauLau without the Luau, try Ono's on the other side of the canal from Waikiki. read more

This was an amazing entertaining and educational luau! I was nervous about accessibility since I use a wheelchair but the staff at Experience Nutridge were so accommodating and caring. They definitely embody the spirit of Ohana! Sis Maka was a phenomenal hostess and all the performers were on point! The food/drinks had me in love with Polynesian cuisine from the first bite/sip. I highly recommend this luau and if you are a wheelchair user make sure you have someone that can lift you for the more uneven terrain. We chose to go to a luau at Nutridge due to its small size and it did not disappoint! First, just getting to the Nutridge estate was an event in itself. Driving up Tantalus was exciting and if you get there early, I would suggest driving to the park at the very top to see breathtaking views of Honolulu (just a turn or two past Nutridge). It was lightly raining when our event started, so they started us in the dining tent, and gave us our choice of a beverage/cocktail. You sit with other guests and a sign with your last name directs you to your seat. There were about 35 people in total. The view from the tent is gorgeous and a great sunset happened in front of us while we dined. Our host for the night was informative and mixed in humor. He was really entertaining! He included some good messages about family (ohana) and made for a warm friendly atmosphere. Before our dinner, we proceeded to other areas of the estate to learn about traditional Hawaiian luau cooking, and were treated to traditional Hawaiian dances, including those with fire. There is a small amount of walking on uneven surfaces (hillside). We were given time to play some traditional games such as spear throwing, "bowling", and some Hawaiian crafts. A blow of the conch shell told us that dinner was ready. The food was served buffet style and was yummy! pork, chicken, rice, etc. After everyone is served, you can get seconds. While we ate they treated us to a Hawaiian dancing show and later in the night, encouraged us to get up and dance. Experience Nutridge was everything I'd hoped for while trying to find a luau that didn't seem too touristy and didn't have huge crowds. The night we visited there were around 40 people from around the world and of all ages. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming- they truly made us feel like family! The entertainment was great and the activities/games were fun and everyone had a chance to mingle. The food was really good and our only comolaint would be they had ran out of beer the night before much to my husband's dismay. The bar has a good offering and the drinks were tasty. The added bonus was the beautiful grounds and views of Honolulu. My daughter is on the Autism Spectrum. Everyone on staff was so accommodating towards her. Honestly brings me to tears. If you're reading this, i want to thank you from the bottom of my heart If you have kids on the spectrum, and/or want a small intimate luau. This is it! Let the staff know your concerns. Sensory issues etc. We were able to watch the fire performance from a distance (as fire scares my daughter). They made sure we sat away from speakers and kept checking on on her. Overall, I'd probably give the Nutridge Luau experience a 4.5 out of 5 stars. Without having been to another luau personally, I think it does deliver on being a smaller and more intimate setting where you actually get to participate/interact (sometimes not by choice). The staff were all super friendly, from the moment we pulled up to the parking area and they shooed away all the chickens to let us park to the end where we all enjoyed dancing and laughter together. The welcome drink was good - mai tai tasted like juice but I definitely felt it by the time I finished the cup. Food was pretty good with the chicken and taro patties with gravy being my standouts. If I could, I wouldn't give the full 5/5 because it feels to me all these luaus are inherently 'touristy' and a lot of the jokes they told were pretty cheesy, but it was a good experience to have had and a great way to kick off our vacation in Hawaii. I do wish there were just a couple more activities and more history to be told! read more

All the other big luaus we looked at were booked, so we found Experience Nutridge last minute and they still had openings. IT WAS AMAZING. I loved how intimate the group size was, only about 35-40 people so it didn't feel commercialized. The estate is tucked away far up a mountain, with amazing sunset views. The hosts were my favorite part, they were all insanely talented, knowledgable, beautiful, and hilarious people; my friends and I still talk about some of them! I really liked the talks and shows they took us through, my favorites being the hakka and fire show. The food also tasted pretty bomb, with everything cooked on site. This is not where you go to get entertained for a few hours... This is where you come in as strangers and leave as ohana. This was hands down one of the best experiences I had in Hawaii. There are so many different luau options to choose from, but the previous reviews I read for this one perfectly echo the experience that I had here. Actually, they capture just a small portion of how amazing this experience actually is. This luau experience was rich with history, culture and fellowship. I'm an introvert, but even I was comfortably absorbed into this warm and festive atmosphere of this place. It felt like being at a family reunion... minus all the family drama. Kai was our driver/guide. He was absolutely hilarious and I knew from the second I stepped in the van that this was going to be fun. As we drove up the mountain to the plantation, he pulled over so that we could snap some pictures of the amazing view. We proceeded to the gate, and after being granted permission to enter, we were welcomed by the hula dancers who placed kukui nut leis on each of us and led onto the grounds. Once there, our new "cousins" Kai, Reno and Coco shared some of the history of both the plantation, and the island with us in the most entertaining and engaging way possible. We even helped prepare a small portion of the dinner meal using a traditional underground oven. During the evening there was lots of dancing (including an amazing fire dance from Coco), drinking (two drink tickets are included in the ticket price. Subsequent drinks are available for a nominal fee of $4 or $5), traditional Hawaiian games, so much food, and of course more dancing. Just before dinner, we were treated to one of the most spectacular sunsets you will ever see. We gathered at the top of the hill and watched as the entire city and ocean below were all cast in a majestic golden orange. After sunset, hanging lights gave the plantation an almost ethereal quality as we laughed and danced and bonded with our new found family. Dinner was pretty good, and there was plenty of it. There was roasted pork, grilled chicken, green salad, lau lau with pork, rice, the steamed sweet potatoes wrapped in tea leaves that we all helped make earlier that day, and of course King's Hawaiian rolls. For dessert there was coconut jello, fresh-cut pineapple, and rich, delicious chocolate cupcakes. If you weren't full and satisfied after this meal, you weren't really trying. Towards the end of the evening, the hula dancers invited us onto the floor to learn a hula routine (thank goodness for those drinks we had earlier!). So much fun. I appreciate that Experience Nutridge has a limit on the number of guests they will entertain at one time. Our group was only about 34 people and I think the maximum that they will take at one time is 60. This makes the whole experience more personal and gives the hosts, our new cousins, an opportunity to get to know us and interact with us, and for us to interact with each other, in a more personal and deeply meaningful way. The people that I was seated with for dinner ultimately became my extended ohana. We had such a good time at the luau, that we got together the next day to enjoy a local street festival (coincidentally, hosted by the owner of the Nutridge plantation), where we ended up getting matching outfits and matching personalized Christmas ornaments so that we would have a piece of this experience to take home with us. As I said in the beginning, this is more than just a place to go and be entertained for a few hours. I am happy to have attended my first luau at Experience Nutridge! It certainly is an intimate experience with possibly at most fifty attendees compared to the typical audience of a couple hundred. Each of the staff members were extremely friendly and welcoming too. The schedule runs as such: greetings and introduction, explanation of the history and culture, various performances, free time to explore the estate and play games, dinner, final dance shows, and a mini raffle. I appreciated the uniqueness of being able to learn about the Hawaiian culture and island. The staff also makes it more entertaining by having volunteers come down to participate. All of the performances one would expect from a luau are presented, including the most anticipated fire knife dancing. Due to the pandemic, seats are spread out and marked with the number of people able to sit there. If anything, I did wish some spots for smaller parties were reserved at the front. Although views at any seat were clear enough to see the stage, myself and other parties of two sitting in the back ended up standing during the shows. Be sure to check out the gorgeous sunset during the free time! The beautiful estate is located high on a hill, so the night view of the coast and city can be seen. Dinner is seated by party and is a buffet style, and the staff definitely serves generous portions. Both the food and desserts were tasty, and two complimentary drinks from a limited selection are included in the tickets. Additional drinks are available for purchase at the bar. Adult tickets are $159 apiece. If opting in to transportation service picking up from various hotels and other locations, the price is $177 instead. The employees help with the tight parking situation and has people wait out in front of the gate until full attendance is reached, so make sure to arrive before 4 PM. The event is written to end at 8 PM, but folks were free to stay longer at the end to dance or socialize. There is guest Wi-Fi, but has weak connection. read more

It is a small production compared to most but that's what we were looking for, it was an intimate experience and the performers did a good job engaging and interacting with the crowd. If you're looking for a touristy experience this seems like a great option. It's a small group of people, the food is great, the view is stunning, and the people are friendly. Just don't go expecting an authentic experience. This is closer to an amusement park. The jokes are corny and fast flowing. And everyone is smiling so much it feels like a beauty pageant. I didn't know what a luau entailed. I thought maybe it was like a banquet where dinner was served and there was a performance. And I had hoped or thought it was going to be an authentic experience. But it was very touristy and performative. It was really well done, the performances were good, the view was beautiful and the food tasty. It just wasn't what I was expecting and had I known how touristy/inauthentic it was I wouldn't have done it. It felt like dinner theatre for the cruise ship crowd. It was informative and I liked learning the difference between Hawaiian food and local food. Started with the pickup by our resort in Waikiki. Our driver was very friendly. He had a lot of recommendations for places to eat. Almost all exclusively in Waikiki. And a lot of them were chain restaurants. He asked where any of us had eaten and I listed off all the restaurants we had gone to from the Eater list or by recommendations. Everyone in the van asked for the names and addresses. I don't know if our driver was annoyed or not but he kept circling the convo back to Waikiki staples like Dukes. Which is totally fine. When we arrived we were welcomed onto the property with a song and conch horn. Then we were introduced to the performers. They were all super friendly and smiley. We were brought in and given a welcome drink each given a lei. A lot of cheesy jokes about I'll lei you that sort of thing. But there was uproariously laughter from the crowd. We then went and watched a presentation on how to cook with a pit. I think it was pronounced emu/e-moo.Then we had an intermission and chatted with someone who was traveling solo. That was the highlight - chatting with another patron. After the intermission we watched a Samoan fire dancer. The performers were very talented. Then there was some 'games' to try but I had to use the washroom and took the shuttle up to the washroom. So we missed that entire part. After the games we say down for dinner. It was buffet but we were served all of the food. It wasn't all you can eat and you couldn't control the portion size. I was quite hungry and wasn't full after. After dinner we were taught a dance. And then there was a dance on the dance floor and the whole thing wrapped up. We drove back to Waikiki. Everyone in the van was loaded. We again got pitched tourist restaurants either in the shopping mall or Dukes again. They have a breakfast buffet... $21. ‍ We ended up getting out of the shuttle at the first drop off spot and opting to walk a half mile to the hotel because we just couldn't bear it anymore. read more

Our multigenerational family of 6, ages 6 to 70, absolutely loved this luau! We were delighted with the kind staff, mesmerized by the shows (performed by the same staff who served us dinner and drinks), loved the pre-dinner activities and thoroughly enjoyed the authentic Hawaiian meal. The venue is amazing, high up inside a beautiful state park, with expansive views of Honolulu. The smaller group (80 or so) as opposed to hundreds at commercial luaus, gave a true family feel, and gave us a great opportunity to be fully immersed in the culture. The Nutridge team places a lot of emphasis on education and cultural understanding, which makes this luau truly special. Transportation to and from the luau is available as an option when you reserve. Our van was right on time, and our driver, Zee, was very friendly. We were very impressed that the staff took time to give special recognition and honor to the veterans and active duty military in attendance. This was our first luau and we absolutely loved it. We went to Experience Nutridge as apart of our wedding anniversary trip. This was our first trip to Hawaii and we scheduled this on our anniversary. The staff was friendly and truly seemed to be enjoying themselves. I loved that there were less than 75 people and the setting was in a beautiful scenic location in the mountains. The entertainment was great and we enjoyed the food and drinks. Cons: Now the price point is not cheap, we paid $392 which includes transportation but we felt that it was worth it. There are definitely some cheaper options but what's that saying ? You get what you pay for. Also I would still suggest getting seating in the front if you really want great unobstructed pictures and videos. To call them triple threats (singing, dancing, acting) would be an understatement. They had an amazing way of engaging the guests and 8 hours of celebration passed effortlessly. As a solo traveler, I still wanted to experience a luau to participate in a cultural ceremony, and I couldn't have done better than with Experience Nutridge! Of course, it would have been a much more enjoyable time had I come with friends, but I really came in an odd position and still had a great time. It does help that they start you out with 2 free Mai Tais to loosen you up and get you to be a little more extroverted. The small crew of performers and hosts were all amazing. So hospitable and easy to talk to. My favorite part was that you could approach each of them and talk casually, they weren't set apart from the crowd. I really appreciated that they picked us up from our hotel and drove us back. After speaking to tourists who visited other luaus, I recommend to pay a little extra to visit this one.
