My Toyota Tundra needed a new AC evaporator coil, which is located in the dash. I started the job myself but soon realized it was too much for me, so I took it to Expert Auto on 37th and Woodlawn in Wichita. I had removed some cosmetic parts from the dash like the glove compartment side panels and kick panels, but I never touched the electrical components. When I brought the truck in, everything was working fine. Expert Auto agreed to finish the job and put everything back together. After spending over $2,300, I picked it up three days later only to find the digital clock and radio didn't work, and the AC wouldn't power on until you drove for about two minutes. When I voiced my concerns, I was told they couldn't confirm everything worked beforehand and that the AC delay was due to the battery being disconnected for several days, insisting the "computer" would catch up and fix itself. Two weeks later, the problem persisted and the AC went out completely. I took it back, and after another inspection, they said they didn't know what was wrong and advised me to take it to a wiring shop. After paying $250 for a wiring diagnosis, I was told the dash needed to be taken apart again--at a cost of over $4,500 with no guarantee of a fix. When I called Expert Auto again, Tim told me there was nothing they could or would do. Now, on a fixed income, I'm left with no AC or heat going into winter, unable to afford repairs, and Expert Auto refuses to make it right. I moved here from California and while finding a place to stay my car broke down and I was towed to this location and they took really good care of me. Very honest and good service the guy behind the counter who's name escapes me right now was great. I've since taken my son's car there and my own again to get my breaks done. I am from OKC and here to babysit a grandchild. I had a flat tire and found a nail. I was getting my hair colored at the salon and called these guys to see if they could patch it after my hair appt. Ended up going to the shop with hair color on and a cape they were awesome! Patched it in less than five minutes and didn't even charge me! Lifesavers!! Highly recommended. read more

As a 77 year old, with a 10 year old Sonata and a 2003 F150, I have used many of the better known auto repair shops in town. Typically I would stay with a shop for 3-5 years or more, until something would change in the way the priced their services or key personnel would leave, causing a downgrade in their level of service. Several years ago I stumbled upon Expert Auto on East Central and took my vehicle in for repair. I had gotten quotes from 3 other well known shops, which were several hundred dollars more than Expert...Good enough for me and used Expert. They did not disappoint, and I have been using them ever since. As a businessman, I am in the habit of getting competitive quotes when I know exactly what is needed and am able to call around to different shops. Expert is always more reasonable. After several repairs I became so comfortable with them that I don't even question what they are charging me. I know they are extremely fair and honest with an absolute commitment to securing long term customers who will keep coming back without reservation. When I first started using Expert, Shawn was running the East Central location and I developed a great relationship with him, as if he were a good friend. After a couple of years, he was transferred to their downtown location which disappointed me. But not for long, since the same cordial and caring treatment was carried forward by Anthony, who also moved on a year or so ago. Next came Tommy who is currently running that shop. I have had a couple instances where Tommy didn't feel that charging me would be appropriate in the big picture, and they have done some work at no labor charge (only the parts which had to be purchased by the shop). Talk about integrity. So changes in personnel does not cause a downgrade in the level of their service or attitude, over long periods of time. A few months ago, I had one situation in which the East Central shop felt that they didn't have the right tech in the shop to do a certain job on my truck (rare situation for them), so Tommy suggested I use their downtown location since he knew they had someone on staff who could more efficiently address my repair. He was absolutely right. To further confirm my confidence in Expert Auto, this past week my wife's 2012 Sonata needed new brakes (grinding). I was told that I needed new pads AND rotors on all 4 wheels, which was going to cost me $932. At the same time they said my front CV axle assemblies likely needed replacing for $925 (180,00 miles on them) since they were throwing off internal grease which is a sign of degradation. I told Tommy to proceed with the brakes and rotors for now and I would address the axle assemblies next month. This presented me with an opportunity to prove a family member wrong when he adamantly insisted that I should switch to his favorite shop, Myers Automotive (after I told him about the axle assemblies needing replacement). First, I have to say that Myers is an excellent shop with a solid reputation. I thought, Hmmm...here is a good time to compare two known repairs with Expert against Myers for the brakes and rotors and the upcoming CV axle assemblies. WOW, was I surprised. I expected somewhat of a close comparison but it was not. Myers quoted $1557 for the 4 brakes and rotors ($632 more than Expert) and they quoted $1342 for the 2 axle assemblies ($409 more than Expert). SO, with my many repair experiences with Expert over several years, I always leave with a smile on my face knowing that they were extremely fair in their prices, and the fact that the ownership of this 5 location shop is committed to maintaining continuity of service, training, and shop management staffing. No surprise that they were voted the #1 Repair shop in Wichita in 2023 in a Wichita Eagle poll. read more

7/25 I took my car in for a rear break job as my breaks were beginning to squeak. They completed my job in a timely matter and the price was reasonable. On 7/28 I had to take back my car due to the weights on my rims flying off while on the highway, they were helpful and apologetic, they re weighted & re balanced my rims. There was still a squeaking noise that developed over the last week that quickly turned into a metal on metal grinding sound, to my surprise. one of my break pads had already warn down to the metal and needed to be replaced again! So, I called Expert Auto to let them know. Took my vehicle back in on 10/19 and the diagnosis was that a caliper had seized up causing the pad to wear and causing the metal on metal grinding. Al, was very understanding with my frustration and took care of my vehicle. he explained what had happened, let me know that the previous technician had since left and was apologetic after I explained how upset I was over the entire situation. Their ability to go above and beyond to make sure the customer is happy is one reason why I can see they were awarded Wichita's Best Mechanic Shop in 2022. I'm very cautious about going to oil change places as is. Last time I got my oil change at midas had no engine light going in, but had one driving away from the place. Went back to get scanned now they say I'm having a issue with my spark plugs. Told them I'll do it myself. Here recently went to Expert Auto Repair at 37th and Woodlawn they didn't reset my oil light. The next day I get a engine light on dash saying check emission system. Codes came back with 3400 and 3497 after I drove all weekend Monday I go back after I changed out one part which was oil pressure switch. They say one code came back so by Wednesday I changed the other. I go back Thursday to have it cleared. Friday morning same message and engine light on. Be cautious people of any oil change center. read more

At the time of writing this review I don't know how many weeks it's been since I've submitted a request for an appointment to fix an EGR issue. Went so far as to provide the engine code that is being read. Explained all symptoms and gave pertinent details. Not one phone call or email to follow up or schedule an appointment. Not reliable in this case. Didn't follow through from the site telling me someone would reach out. Nothing. read more

Got me for $699 for a rear brake job. Had quoted me $450. (shoes, drums and new cylinders) $300-$350 if I didn't need new wheel cylinders. Somehow, since I did need new cylinders the job jumped in price by $300. After shopping around, I'm finding $450-$500 to be a fair price for this work. read more

Couldn't figure out why my car wouldn't start so towed it to the new location in Bel Aire. The technician began arguing with me about not being able to see the timing chain (it's right where you add oil) and how he couldn't rotate my serpentine belt except backwards, which can screw with the timing. After I paid over $300 for an AC compressor bypass pully ($1400 if I still wanted AC) I took the car on the highway and heard sputtering on the passenger side and clanking on the driver's side, it also was smoking from under the hood when I pulled back into the parking lot. They said that's all normal. Well now I'm back because my car still won't start just like before and they're refusing to work on it to fix their mistake. My hood flew up onto my windshield, bending on the way here because I had to keep a charger on it. I took it to the central location and was told it's my alternator that'll run another $900! read more

We took our car in with a flat tire and explained we were from out of town trying to head back to Kansas City. The man working quickly took a look at the tire and explained to us that we needed a new one but unfortunately he didn't have a new one to put on and all the tire places around were closing at noon. He offered us a used tire, free of cost and quickly replaced it. When we offered him money he wouldn't accept it. Such great customer service!!!! read more

I've been a customer of Expert Auto for many years now. We have four cars with two of them being for college kids - which for us means older cars that might need more TLC. It isn't just the outstanding customer service, the staff is knowledgeable and offer advice that makes a difference. Their work and attitudes engender trust and confidence.
