Moving to East Boston, I had no idea where to bring my car and was concerned I would get overcharged for repairs. Friends of mine who are from Winthrop suggested that I go to Expert Auto, so I tried them out when I needed a state inspection and again when I needed a tire replaced. They have been fair with pricing, (like I was actually shocked that I didn't have to haggle or question the price they were giving me) and have been great at communicating what my car needs. When I have brought it in to see what is causing an issue, they repair what is necessary and don't go overboard just trying to make more money. The staff has always been friendly and helpful when speaking to them on the phone. I have been dropping my car off with a key outside of business hours and picking it up after hours since I work M-F 9-5. I always receive a call with updates and a price estimate the next day and can usually pick up my car the day after that. I trust Expert Auto to do a great job with repairs, at a reasonable price and will continue to use them as my mechanic and suggest them to friends in the area! read more

If they gave out awards for poor customer service these guys would receive 5 gold stars from the Shitty Business Bureau. These guys are like the Dicks Last Resort of auto shops. At least Dicks served decent food and wasn't actually run by one. If you have a car problem, call anyone else in Winthrop. If these guys are your only option, do yourself a favor and drive your car into the ocean. Your friendly insurance adjuster will be much nicer to deal with than these guys. I have been going to Expert Auto since I moved to Winthrop 8 years ago. Jimmy, Kevin and the mechanics are great. Professional, personable, honest and accommodating. They open early to cater to those clients who need an oil change or inspection asap. They drive you home if you need it. They understand that we all have bills to pay and make it the least painful as possible if you need a major repair job on your car. They recommend other mechanics if need be for auto body work. I took my red mazda 3 as the back tire was leaking. I was expecting an up sell on a new tire as most Dealer shops have done this to me. To my surprise all it needed was a patch and it cost me less than $15. So happy to find a new honest mechanic close to my house. read more

Finding a GOOD Mechanic is like finding a GOOD Dentist now a days, I should know..I'm a Dental Hygienist. Honesty, is ALWAYS the best policy here. Beware: They will rip you off. Make sure you know the condition of your car before you bring it in with video proof. I brought my vehicle in (spark plugs, sputtering, etc) and they fixed it beautifully. I will say they know what they are doing. Months later, the next time I brought it in was for a tune-up on a few things and when I went to go pick it up, they had my car pointed right at the edge of the sidewalk with my door open ready for me to drive away like I was a special guest. I knew there was a red flag... I noticed my car was back to sputtering, and dying at red lights like it was the first time and these guys wanted to get another quick $800 bucks out of me. I confronted them and they played stupid... I asked them to check their records to prove that they did the work on my car and they wouldn't. Finally they told me to never come there again. The customer service was brutal. I was charged 2k and basically the car had the same issue a week later. My transmission was shot and he fixed a bunch of other stuff and should've told me that was the real problem. Very upsetting experience would not go back. read more

Expert Auto has the best and most trustworthy mechanics I have ever dealt with. I took my Jeep to a dealership who told me I needed a new transmission and that it would take several days to replace. A family member told me to stop by Expert Auto and I'm glad I listened. They quickly diagnosed the problem to be a simple sensor and fixed it for me the same day, which saved me thousands of dollars. I refer everyone I know to Expert Auto and I would not trust my car with anyone else. They now do state inspection stickers too. read more

I can't tell you how many times I've gone saying "I think I need this expensive thing done" only to be told, "no, what you need is much cheaper." And I always leave with a working car. Okay so don't get thrown off by the slightly rough/ unfriendly voice/ responses of Kevin when he answers your questions over the phone. In person, he and every other person at Expert is extremely sweet and helpful. As another reviewer stated, they are completely upfront about pricing and are really willing to do anything in their power to keep their customers happy. I'm not from here originally and don't really know many people in the area to get recommendations for this type of thing, so it's really nice to have a place I can trust. They do good, quick work. I do wish their pricing on an oil change was a little less ($30), but beggars can't be choosers!! I will continue to come here for all of my vehicle maintenance and repair needs! Heard some good reviews on Expert Auto. Had a starter issue and scheduled a time for it to be replaced. Expected to be without a car all day, they were done in less then 2 hours. Reasonable prices, very nice guys. They clearly want to keep customers and they appear to run a great, honest mechanic business. Very impressed! read more

I have a 2000 Chrysler town&country. I brought it in because I was leaking fluid. I needed a new radiator and power steering tank. The service was excellent. When I got my van back I noticed that I still had a leak. I called Kevin he said bring it right in. He called me to inform me I needed a water pump. I had just spent over $700 on the radatier and power steering. To my surprise he fixed the water pump for free. I could not have been more happy. Expert I would recommend highly read more

I brought my car in to look at the muffler, my check engine light and a few other smaller items. When they called back they told me I'd have to get a new exhaust system and quoted me $345. The check engine light was an evap code and they would need to reseal the top of the tank and quoted me $120. I told them I wanted to check on the other mechanics shop that replaced my exhaust two years ago to see about any possibly warranties. They agreed and said they would do the same thing. He then told me I would have to pay $80 for then checking everything out which I thought was bad business. I don't know of any mechanic shops that charge to take a look and run some diagnostics anymore. So I could either pay the $80 and no work done or pay the $120 and have them reseal the tank which I did. I picked the car up and drove it directly to the original shop that I had the exhaust done. They did the inspection and checked to see if there was any warranty but it was expired. But the owner said he felt bad it broke down so quickly and offered to install a more expensive exhaust for a lower price and take care of the other issues and bundled it all up for $300, service included. I was very happy for that. When I picked the car up the check engine light was back on so I had the shop plug in and found out it was the same code that I just paid $120 for Expert to fix. To top it off I went to fill up my gas tank and gas started to spit back out. I couldn't fill my tank up. I was able to drive it home and bring it in to Expert next day they were open. I told him the issue and with in an hour they figured the mistake out and took care free of charge with an apology. I was happy they fixed their mistake without an argument but the paying of $80 for the diagnostic left a bad taste in my mouth. read more
