UPDATE: ER called me on 1/2/2020 and after arguing with me that they're not in the wrong, offered this: "We are willing to write off the full remaining balance of 5,078.63 (this now includes $1,099 interest) on your account in return for your agreement to remove all negative reviews that you and your husband have made about Expert Restoration. Remove them from all platforms: Better Business Bureau, Google, Yelp, Facebook, etc. Once you have removed the negative reviews, we will wipe your debt clean." So now we can add bribery, attempting to silence me, and violating FTC guidelines (which in turn violates Google and Yelp's TOS) to their list of reprehensible business practices. BEWARE. We had a very minor basement flood. I Googled UDK but must have clicked on the first and that popped up. They came out quickly & told me our flood was worthy of an insurance claim. They said all I needed to do was pay them our deductible and not to "worry about a thing" because our insurance would cover everything. So we didn't worry about a thing... until my Allstate adjuster came and said that I chose the worst company! He said I should have called them 1st because they never recommend Expert bc they overcharge. He said Expert charges credit cards without authorization when they come after customers for remaining balances. We canceled our credit card the same day! He also said they should not have collected my deductible. My insurance company went through their $9,130 bill and would only pay what was reasonable & fair, according to industry standards. The amount of equipment they brought in for our tiny basement was overkill (more equipment + more time = more $$). Expert charged us for 4 fans in our small hallway. I had a picture that showed they only had 2! They did correct that, but only when confronted with my picture. Now they're coming after us for $3,979... and counting. They fraudulently charged us interest after 8 days, even though their own contract states they'll charge 5% after 30 days. After reading all the other 1 star reviews on here, I called Get Gephardt. Initially the owners refused to be on air. But to KUTV: they apologized, but then blamed the interest on a "computer error." I believe it was payback for my initial review and BBB complaint. They never apologized to me about the "computer error." Just emailed me an amended bill the day they were interviewed by the news. Why didn't they bother to handle it weeks before by responding to my 2 emails??? Their scripted response by the owners on Google are all the same and exactly what we expected them to tell KUTV: "It's not our fault your insurance won't cover what you paid for..." Their charges are outrageous but clearly they place all blame on your insurance. Our complaints: 1. They didn't give us an estimate. 2. They neglected to tell us we'd be responsible for any remaining balance. 3. They should not have collected deductible. 4. They overcharged equipment (fans). 5. They charged interest too soon. 6. They didn't respond to 3 separate emails from me. 7. They lied to KUTV saying we stood them up for a meeting with their project manager. Really?!? I haven't heard a word from these people. Expert has an F rating with the BBB. A complaint with Utah Division of Consumer Protection has been filed. Expert Restoration should not be in business. They take advantage of people in the middle of a disaster & get away with it! Update on this ridiculous saga: They finally addressed their F rating: "Your frustrations & complaint are misdirected & should be against your insurance company...Please let us know what we can do to help you get a full reimbursement from your insurance on this claim." So not only do they talk to you like a child who is confused about who to be mad at, but they offer to "help" when they're the very same one screwing you over. They say that supposed meeting we stood them up for is now an "honest mistake." They say they mixed us up with another client! Ok sure. Have they made any attempts to ever apologize for this nonsense or to reschedule this meeting? Nope. Because they clearly never had any intentions of contacting us. They were just trying to save face on the news. So either the people running this outfit are completely incompetent. Or the more believable truth is: they are misleading, dishonest, unethical & engaging in insurance & credit card fraud. Expert Restoration? Their name should be Ripoff Restoration. BEWARE: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! This company has fake reviews on here from family and friends. They tag reviews as inappropriate that are negative to get them reviewed. It's happened to me and several other people. My story started when I noticed that there was water damage in my basement coming from the window well. I googled and called Expert Restoration. Juan came out to my home and visually assessed the damage. He told me he'd have people out to my house within the hour to clean up the damage. When I inquired about cost, I was told that I'd only have to pay my insurance deductible. Mind you, he didn't tell me that him coming out to the house then on a Sunday would be a fee! He told me at that time that if I got him a claim number that they would work with the insurance company. A little over an hour later, some employees came and went downstairs without ever speaking to anyone. They ripped up our flooring in probably more rooms than needed and placed about 20 fans around the rooms. They left and that was it. They did quite a bit of damage to our home and tore up flooring, baseboards and door frames where there was absolutely no damage. I believe it was Monday or Tuesday, Juan came over with a book, "Delay, Deny, Defend." All about how evil insurance companies are. He gave me the book and told me that I'd probably have problems with the insurance company, but they are required by law to pay the full price of services. He explained that the insurance company would tell me that they over charge and would only pay a portion. I told him I was concerned now with everything he told me. He shrugged his shoulders and told me that I probably would have to fight the insurance company. He asked me about the clean up and requested a put a positive review up for them. I didn't as I was concerned as to what he was telling me about the insurance and the audacity to give me such a book. He asked if he could charge my credit card the $1000 agreed upon. I stated that he could. For a few days, I didn't hear or see anything of the company until they picked up all the dryers a few days later. During this time, my insurance company denied my claim. Soon after that, I received a threatening email demanding payment of nearly $10,000. I was shocked as this was not the agreement or what was communicated. When I called the office, I told Stephanie my insurance wouldn't cover it. At that time she insinuated that I lie to the insurance company about the cause to get it covered. Later, I called Juan and questioned him about what he told me about the cost. He didn't deny what he had told me, but then again said that he didn't understand why my insurance wouldn't cover it. Again, I called their office and was told about how horrible the insurance companies are. After calling other companies to find out how they did business and what they estimated the cost of repairs to be, I was shocked. Two other companies gave me estimates of $3000 for the work done. They explained that in that industry companies usually only differ by about $200 - $500. They also knew the company I was speaking of before I even said anything. In future conversations, I was told that the $10,000 was a ridiculous amount. I might add they never took off the $1000 I already paid them. Just evidence of their shady practices. Still, Stephanie told me that the $10,000 was the price they charge the insurance company because of additional paperwork. She told me the cash price was difference. I never received what that difference of price is even when asked. Don't use this fraudulent company unless you want more stress. Several insurance companies are now paying for lawyers to defend their clients rather than pay the outrageous fees. read more

Here's the dirty truth about how Expert Restoration operates: They charge two to three times more then industry-standard. Just because they can. They purposely charge more than your insurance will cover so they can come after you, the unsuspecting customer, for the difference. They often claim "we do better work then our competitors." How can that be? Do they have more blades in the fans they charge you double for? Are they superior at cleaning mold? It's laughable. They know most people won't read their contract word for word (since you're under distress), which gives them the upper hand to take advantage of people in stressful disaster situations. They prey on the elderly. Just read the latest BBB complaint for proof of a 75 year old victim. They will charge your credit card without warning you. Often months afterwards. As of April, they have a funding company that will charge 5% interest/60% APR. It appears Paul, the owner of Expert, also owns this funding company. They couldn't get a collections company to work with them, so this is their latest scam. Basically, they have found a way to make someone else the bad guy now. Take the heat off Expert. Beware that some people have reported getting tangled with the funding company without even knowing it. They were on Get Gephart last year. Just Google "Expert Restoration Gephardt." They charge overhead and profit, which is not customary. Most insurance companies won't cover these charges. Their 5 star reviews are fake. They are left by employees or the owners to cover the truth. But the truth is on here, Google and BBB, where they have a D rating and an alert because of so many complaints. They also have an alert on Yelp for bribing a customer to remove a review. They removed the option to review them on Facebook because they saw that unhappy customers were talking to each other. They flag negative Google reviews they don't like, so they can keep their fake higher rating average. If people cancel their credit cards or the charges are blocked, they will sue you. They claim to "always win," but that's not true. Their workers are paid on commission, so they have incentive to charge more. They are also known to often owe employees back wages. They are widely known to their competitors because of their bad reputation. Multiple insurance companies report terrible experiences interacting with anyone in their office. Beware that this company is dishonest, unethical and completely lacking in decency and integrity. To take advantage of innocent people in disaster situations is disgusting. They bully, threaten and intimidate innocent people until they get what they want. Expert Restoration and anyone associated with this company are all scam artists on another level. read more

I wished I would have read reviews before having this company do work. Issues I have had. 1. Review the below article that was on KUTV news of them taking advantage of people/insurance companies. Same thing happened to me. They said insurance would cover claim when they arrived and I asked for a quote, then charged more than 2x what insurance is paying. They are now asking me to threaten the insurance company by filing a report to the insurance board. Problem is after reviewing insurance info and other companies charges for the same work it does look like they are trying to gouge them/me for more money. When I asked why they charge 2x, Stephanie who runs the front office said they charge double because their work is higher quality than others and said she would coach me on how to get insurance to pay the full amount. Then she put me in the middle of a dispute with the insurance company trying to leverage me by asking me to threaten them. My view on quality is they dried out the carpets and floors as I would expect a disaster company would do. But I don't agree the work was better than expected and should cost more than double others providing the same service. They dinged up furniture, 2 of the workers at the house were not in masks in the middle of covid where workers were under instructions from the state to wear them, workers were very young 2 of them said they were still in high school and wanted some part time work during covid. 3. When having this issue I asked the supervisor Ryan Sharman If I could speak with the owner about the issues to try to resolve, the response I got was he won't call and I was threatened they were going to sue me if I didn't have a check ready for him to pick up that evening. 3. I also read about them trying to pay people to take bad reviews down. I don't like leaving bad reviews because I understand everyone makes mistakes, but based on my experience I think a warning to others is warranted. read more

PSA: Back in 2019 our ice maker sprung a leak and flooded our home. First time something like this happened to us. We called our insurance and they recommended we call UDK. We called who we thought was UDK but a truck showed up from Expert Restoration. Jerry came to our door and we asked him if he was with UDK. He said "no". We said we called UDK. He said we called him. He asked who our insurance was and we told him. He went on to tell us that they work with our insurance all the time and all disaster cleanup companies are the same and bill the same. He said he already had 2 trucks on the way. Us not knowing that he was a convicted fraudster (Jerry Lovelace KSL) wormed his way in our home with us eventually signing a contract. After they started in our home and our internet was restored, I did some research. They were bad. Real bad. F on the BBB and many bad reviews about how they scam and over charge like crazy. Well it's true. We asked them to leave our home and we did not want their services anymore. They refused saying that we signed a contract and they would stay. THEY WOULD NOT LEAVE OUR HOME! I just want to warn all of you to never call them. If they come to your house tell them to leave or you'll call the police. They're that bad. I could tell you the whole experience with them but my fingers would fall off. DO NOT USE Expert Restoration! There now I feel better knowing that I've warned you all. If you don't want to lose a lot of money don't go with these guys. There's a reason that Gephart just did an investigation on these guys. I luckily got a statement from them saying they wouldn't charge me more than my Insurance would pay so when I got the bill for 7k over what the insurance would pay I was able to get them to come down to 2700 that is industry standard pricing. And if you look at the google reviews they're mostly fake. Its people who have just reviewed one thing that were probably made by employees. These guys prey on people who are in a bad situation. They aren't here to take care of you they're here to take advantage of you. read more

These guys are fantastic. I had a real problem trying to decide how to deal with all of this mess Dave and his company helped me beyond measure. They were very professional they know exactly what needed to be done and they finished up the job perfectly. He is kind, honest, and knowledgeable. We would work with him again in a heartbeat.
