This is my new favorite alteration spot, all thanks to Yelp! I was in a major need of an alteration shop, due to a formal event coming up (pre-quarantine). We all know the same routine. Buy a formal gown, maybe a size smaller, hoping you can "diet" or "work out" your way to get into the dress. Well I tried that method, and in some areas, worked great. In another area, the stubborn back fat, not so much, so I needed back up help (pun intended). I needed to have part of the back lowered (backless dress) and loosened up just a tad. I brought the dress in on a Monday, and they had it ready by Friday! When I tried it on, I had a whole "Cinderella" moment. The dress looked as if it was handcrafted for my body! They did such an amazing job, and the ladies that work there are so nice! I have several more items I need worked on so I will be back soon. The prices are fair. The dress alterations were $35 and repairing a shirt with a tear in it was $6. Very satisfied customer and highly recommend to anyone looking! read more

I had 2 tees and 1 polo to be altered. I marked the alterations myself. On the polo I stated I wanted the trim on the side seam replaced. I picked up the items 7 days later. The 2 tees did not have the extra fabric trimmed, the polo didn't have the extra fabric trimmed or the trim intact. They offered to make correct. The 2 tees were redone without problem. The polo is a hot mess. The fabric used for the trim isn't the same type of fabric. On 4 sides, all are done different. And the rest of the seams are still not trimmed. I'm sitting here trying to figure out how to salvage this. So disappointed. If I'd wanted a DIY look I would have done it myself and saved the money. read more

I had a pair of Prana flannel lined jeans hemmed. No wait, two dressing rooms, quick service, made adjustments as I requested, and back out within three minutes. Stitching looks good --a slight curve in one area, yet lets be honest... its at street level :) . Just know that this review was done for five dollars off. read more

Charged $85 because it had beading...then had to wait 2 hrs after it was supposed to be done because they had to take it out over an inch and redo beading! Terrible customer service... This is the second time I've attempted to pick up pants I dropped off five days ago for hemming. I'm standing in the parking lot 90 mins before a funeral waiting for them to be finished. Loved my experience at express alterations. I brought in 4 dresses and 1 pair of pants - I know a lot! - and they whipped through pinning on each and got my husband and I out of there fast. I don't know a thing about alterations and appreciated their recommendations on where to take in and how much. They all look great! I was also lucky enough to work with Hannah earlier this year and she did amazing work on my wedding dress - which is not a small task! She made several recommendations on length, back buttons, waist, etc. The dress initially came with a corset which I wanted taken out in the back. I had to order the dress 4x the size and you would have no idea looking at it on my wedding day! Highly recommend! read more

This was a terrible experience. Convenience brought me in the door, quality and service would have brought me back; I will not be going back. I had simple suspender buttons put on 3 pairs of trousers that should have been done by 3pm. At 5pm they had barely been started. I was asked to wait in the lobby while they were completed. 30 minutes late I walked out the door with my pants. When I was charged, I brought up a price discrepancy between my charge and what was listed on the website. For bringing this up I was treated as if I were scamming the business. The lady was extremely rude and unwilling to recognize that either the price on the website, or the price I was charged was incorrect. After finally leaving the establishment and examining the work done on the simple buttons placed into my pants, I noticed that the work was sloppy and poor quality. The buttons were not evenly spaced (some 5 inches apart, some 2 inches apart). The threading of the buttons were not even (some were quadruple stitched, which I would prefer for extra stability and strength, and others had as few as one loop through the button hole. I am waiting on the single stitched buttons to pop off). And finally, the vertical placement on the buttons is inconsistent and in some cases incorrect causing the suspenders to connect and pull underneath the waistband resulting in a waistband that doesn't lay smooth. As I was waiting multiple other customers walked in the door to pick-up clothing and stood there without assistance for the entire time I waited. My pants were an obvious rushed effort. Under normal circumstances I would take my items back and inquire about them, but after the rudeness that came with the price discrepancy I do not see myself going back. Sewing on buttons should be the simplest and easiest thing an alterations service can do, but in this case it was a last minute scramble that resulted in poor work. Make your own decision, but I will not be returning. read more

I came here after seeing so many great reviews, but I would not recommend if you are in a rush or have little patience. My items were delayed 3 times. Today was my third time trying to come pick up my items after receiving a call they were ready. Last week when I went to get my jacket and dress, neither were finished. The jacket still had marks on it where the sleeves were supposed to be shortened and the dress still had pins in the straps. Today, when I tried on the dress that I had already told them was not completed last time, it was still not ready, as the straps had still not been shortened. I will say my items were not damaged, and once the alterations were finally correct, I was satisfied with the work. The customer service was also good and they were friendly, helpful, and apologetic. read more

I had a bridesmaid dress that needed the straps shortened, a little bit taken off the lenght and some cups sewn in. I needed it for a wedding may 12th, 2021. let me tell you, it turned into a nightmare!!! when I went to pick up my dress on may 1st, I tried it on and quickly noticed it was messed up!! The straps were cut way to short with no way to lengthen them again so we tried every which way imaginable to see if there was another way the straps would work at the length they were... I also noticed that the pleating on the top of my dress wasn't done correctly either, one side was sewn good the other needed fixed but at that moment I was more worried about the straps!!! At this point the owner suggest the best place to now wear my straps was around my neck, I agreed. However they were tiny straps and the weight of my girls and the dress was resting on the back of my neck!! so I left my dress there to see what they could do for my straps. I was told to come back in a couple of days, so I did. It still was not to my liking and fit awful still and they tried to add a tiny bit of material back to my straps. So I left it there a third time. Was set to come pick it up Saturday May 8th at 6:00. This time I tried the dress on multiple times, having them put darts in the pleats to try and get it to lay right, no luck. I took the dress with me, I got it home, tried it on again, had it on for about 15 minutes and it killed my neck, I was crying, so upset and angry at the same time because my alterations here cost more than my actual dress!!! Sunday was mothers day, and they are closed. I had to miss work on Monday morning to go back again because my dress needed fixed and I was not leaving until it was done to the best it could be. I asked the owner if she had the material she took off the bottom, she said they did. I asked her to make me some new straps, she said but I don't want to spend two hours making you new straps if your not going to like it!!! I told her you guys are the ones that mess my dress up. I brought it to you brand new with the tags still on it!! Alterations Express never once offered me any of my money back. I wore it in the wedding and changed at the reception. I hated my dress!!! read more

Express indeed. I took a pair of dress pants in at 4PM today and left the shop with perfectly hemmed pants at 4:30PM! The staff was very friendly and accommodating; moreover, you can't beat the price, especially considering the last minute need. I have used this alterations place twice, and never again! Both trips I told them to complete the work on their schedule, but I came to pick up this last time and it was not complete...four days after the expected time. I was asked to wait while they helped another customer, and then proceeded to help two others who came after me. The first trip I asked for several things including sewing a breast pocket lining back together, which did not get completed and had to be returned. The second trip they did not hem the inseam correctly for a suit pants, and I returned and asked them to just cuff them since that would be simple. They did not have them done, completed while I waited but without the cuff...just a a plain hem. Poor quality and poor customer service!!! read more

The second time I came in to pick up my dress (after they fixed their mistakes), they weren't even finished with it... And I came in a day after it was supposed to be finished. I really wish I could give a 4.5 star rating instead of 4. I have been a customer of Express Alterations for many years, though on-and-off. The quality of work has varied greatly in the past, which is what led to me to seek services elsewhere. A few months ago I decided to try EA again and I have been very impressed with the quality of work since returning. I think I have had 3-4 orders of multiple pieces (hems, pockets sealed, hole repairs, etc) and have yet to have a complaint or need for a redo. I also appreciate that the shop is cleaner now than in the past. If I find that the shop continues to run at this high level I will change my rating to 5 stars. As of now things are looking very good, and I would recommend Express Alterations. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I called inquiring about a simple side take in of a wedding dress. The wedding date is 10/13/18, but their website boasts that they only need dresses a week and the glowing reviews showing a quick turn around led me to believe it would be quick with great customer service. I called the Westfield location and was immediately told no without even being able to explain myself as "it is homecoming week". Granted, it is a busy time of year, but I've never been turned away that quickly. Plus if homecoming is this week, they could work on my dress the following week? A friend in a similar circumstance went to the 96th street location, so I called there next. The lady on the phone gave nothing but attitude and again wouldn't even let me explain myself. She stated they needed dresses at least a month, so there's no way they could do a dress in two weeks. So I asked to speak to the manager or owner, as I was upset with how I was being treated. If you need dresses more than a week, state that on your website. Don't false advertise. Upon asking for this, she put the phone down and started talking to the seamstresses in the shop about me, which I could clearly hear. I was upset and hurt by something that should not be this stressful. If you want good customer service and to be treated with respect, DO NOT GO HERE. read more

Got called the day before my dress was supposed to be ready for pick up, asking me if I would be ok to have my dress pushed back a week for pick up. My dress was there for over a month. I bought my wedding gown from Alfred Angelo and they setup an appointment at their location for my alterations. I found out later Alfred's was closing and I needed to make my alterations appt directly with Hanna at her shop. I spoke with Hanna and made my appt. I showed up today for my appt to find Hanna wasn't there and wouldn't be for at least 30 minutes. The lady at the desk told us there was also a man there that could help but he was finishing his fried chicken and then made a motion with her hands regarding how messing they would be. She called Hanna while I was standing there and she acted as if she knew nothing of me or my appt. I told them I'd read reviews about this unprofessional behavior and I'd be going elsewhere. She claimed this wasn't there fault that Alfred's sent me there. I explained multiple times I MADE THE APPOINTMENT WITH HANNA!! I left immediately and would never recommend any bride trust this business with their time nor their wedding gown. read more
