I've been a customer of this alteration shop 20 years since they were in downtown Vancouver, and as they moved out to this location. Last thing I brought into the seamstress was a simple jacket repair. Any seamstress with a lot of experience would have no problem doing it. She turned me away and told me to go to a shoe cobbler. I left the visit with a very bad memory because she was so "unfriendly." I've unfriend never done anything to offend her. Given her thousands of dollars worth of work and I did not deserve to be treated that way. Maybe I didn't get her because of the age or cultural difference. I took my jacket to another seamstress and she was able to fix it, using a patch without any problem. read more

The work I had done was done well, so I really appreciate her skill in sewing. I asked her to hem a pair of jeans for me and they turned out really great. I would definitely take any clothes that needed work done to her again. Unfortunately, I did not get a call when they were ready. All I remember her saying is that they would be ready in a week, so I assumed she would call to let me know when they were done, in about week. She said that she wrote down a specific day, but I didn't have the receipt, so I don't know whether that's accurate. She said she would never be able to keep call every customer about that, but every sewing place I've used in the past has always called when the item was ready, so maybe I just misunderstood her. Anyway, pay attention to when she tells you to come pick up your item, so you don't end up waiting longer than you need to. :) read more

I finally got fed up with them after a couple of disappointing experiences and searched yelp for another place. I brought Valentina an expensive pair of jeans to be taken up using the original hem and also tapered in the legs. She did a great job! I'm from out of town, and I was attracted to this place by the good reviews. Valentina is very professional, and she clearly cares about her customers. She also guarantees her work which is very respectable. I had some pants tapered and hemmed, and they were completed in exactly one week to good results. My only issue is that she charges $35 for tapering, which is quite steep. Along with $12 for hemming; therefore, I payed $47 for one pair of pants. Unfortunately, I know I can get the same results elsewhere for cheaper. Otherwise, I highly recommend the service if that price does not bother you. read more

If I could give her less stars I would. I'm sure she's fine for her "preferred" work but I absolutely would not recommend taking her any formal wear that required any real "work". Valentina claims to do wedding dresses but I absolutely would be terrified to bring her a wedding gown. I brought mine in to see what she would quote me for a price and quoted 300 dollars JUST TO HEM IT. Didn't even have me put it on, refused to touch the top of my dress as it was lace and continued to go on about how she makes her money doing day to day things like pants and jackets, does not like to do extensive work that takes more time and that she would need it sooner because she prefers smaller items essentially telling me my dress would take the back burner to her "preferred" type of work. Now all that said and done fine, you don't like to do wedding dresses whatever. But what really tipped me off is that she said none of this TO ME I brought in my mom with me and while I was asking Valentina for these things she kept answering and talking to MY MOM not me. As if that wasn't rude enough, hello, I'm an adult and the customer? When we told her we would think about it since she was only willing to do half the alterations? I bought a good dress in a department store to wear to a Christmas party... after having it altered at Express Sewing it is a great dress! I wasn't sure it could be taken up where I wanted, including the layers of outer dress fabric and lining, and moving a hidden zipper and hook-and-eye closure under the arm, but it was done perfectly. The owner was very careful to look at what I wanted done and talk about what would be possible to change, and the finished dress was ready to pick up 48 hours after dropping it off.
