I gave David a one-star rating, because zero stars is not an option. David and his crew did not show for our rehearsal/welcome dinner for 100 people! His team had the date wrong (one day later). He was very apologetic on the phone, and IN WRITING, promised he would refund all of my money. After my son's wedding, David had health problems, and ghosted me. He has not refunded a single dollar and appears to have shut down his business. After telling me repeatedly how honest he was, his actions demonstrated he is not. I don't know if he will open his business again. If he does, I do not recommend him at all. read more

Summary: Overpriced, bad customer service and communication. Poor planning cause bad food quality and the owner was not reconcilable, so I would not suggest this catering business. "The wedding day was perfect EXCEPT the food" said by multiple guests. They did not request a timeline to have been able to better assist in the wedding day order of events. At last minute a question of drop off time was made that led to an executive change made by the company. This caused what was probably "good" food to sit in warmers and become over cooked. We had multiple guests throwing full $65+ plates of food away. Plus they returned to collect their things and took our big cooler but did not take their own charcuterie board. (All things respectively returned back to their rightful owners, but still.) After the wedding the owner, David, stated "I would really like to know what the problem was so I can address it immediately" while his addressing it took 13 days afterwards to get a response that he would be doing nothing about it. I'm sure they do multitudes of good catering services throughout the year but if you get a bad round of it, don't expect them to do the right thing and compensate you slightly for what inconveniences happened. read more

I booked with Exquisite Grill Catering months in advance to my wedding. Many caterers in the Lake Tahoe area were either overpriced or would not cater for small parties. Exquisite Grill was easy to get a hold of and called to have a meeting on exactly what we were looking for. As the day approached, it was clear that there was going to be a snow storm. David stayed in touch with me the whole weekend on updates. He was able to get through the snow, and get all the food ready on time. Everybody was very impressed with the roasted pig and the food. He even put a bow tie and top hat on the pig! Very cute! There was plenty of food for all of us and leftovers too. David and his team plated everything for pictures, and stayed to clean the kitchen after our meal. David and his team catered our Friday night welcome party for our wedding. It was an absolute blast, the food was amazing, and the presentation was absolutely outstanding. We had actually booked another vendor to do the food, before hearing from them TWO WEEKS BEFORE OUR EVENT that they couldn't fulfill our order. I was panicked, but thankfully, David and his team stepped up to the plate. We had to feed 180 people, and they jumped on it and got us a quote, then an adjusted quote, then another adjusted quote, in a number of days. There was no drama, they were incredibly flexible, and most importantly, the pig and sides we got were incredibly delicious. If you're hosting an even in the Reno/Tahoe area, I am sure that David and his team will absolutely kill it for you. I would recommend them for anyone hosting an event of any size. We hired this company for wedding catering and when they showed up day of, they did not professionally drop off or pick up. When dropping off the food, the woman was inpatient and upset at the fact she couldn't pick up the equipment in 30 minutes or less of dropping it off. She claimed it was going to make her late to her dog walking. Yet how are you to feed 130+ pin that time? The meat was very fatty and every thing was else was dry with not a lot of flavor. When picking up they did not check what they were grabbing and they took a cooler that was not theirs. However they left other things that were there's. People make mistakes, especially when cleaning up, but with it all adding up we paid over 11 thousand for terrible food and unprofessional. It was frustrating. The issues were brought up to the owner of the company, but there was no retribution or remorse. Just what is done is done and there's nothing else he will do about it. read more

Their mixed green salad is vibrant and the dressing is amazing. I'm used to balsamic dressing punching me in the face because it's so vinegar driven, but they emulsify it in such a way, it's smooth. My daughter-in-law hired Exquisite Grill at least eight months ago for their wedding this past weekend. It was an unmitigated disaster. They showed up nearly three hours late and did not bring their serving staff. The pork was bland like it had been boiled in water, the mac and cheese tasted like it was out of a box, the veggies were mushy, and the mashed potatoes tasted like they were powdered. Since they showed up without their serving staff, the venue operator had to provide them with assistance. Exquisite Grill refused to compensate the venue for their help until the bride's mother, a prominent attorney, stepped in. I realize we live in a rural community, Lassen County, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't be treated with dignity and respect, like the folks at Lake Tahoe. David treated us like we were hayseeds and made no effort to apologize for his conduct or service. I wouldn't recommend this caterer to my worst enemy. read more

David really dropped the ball on our two catered events in August 2023. Potato Bar - not as provided as agreed to. Not enough food, small potato's, forgot chicken, grated cheese and butter. Not enough salad. Potato's were supposed to be big as they were the meal. The apple crip dessert was awful - runny, would not have been enough for everyone, and those that had it, threw it out. David knew we were upset and said we would talk - still waiting. So many excuses for the worst catered event we've ever had. We also had hired him to provide breakfast burritos boxes one morning. Again, same at the Potato Bar, late to arrive! So many excuses why he could not do what was contracted - no boxes, not ready on time, went cheap - lots of fried potato's - microscopic bacon. He had 6 mo. lead time to get it right - I'm, sure he spent the money long ago and now went cheap when it was time to provide the service. Feel he took advantage of our group of seniors. Please avoid the food at this place. Not sure if it was an off day, but I ordered dinner for pick up on a slow weekday. They seemed understaffed but the food was terrible. Chicken sandwich bread and fried chicken were rock hard, lettuce wilted, fries over salted. The fish tacos had the smallest bit of fried cod in them, and over smothered in tarter sauce. I can't say enough about this caterer! My wife and I had them do our wedding in South Lake Tahoe for about 55 guests. First off, a couple days before our wedding I got a call from the owner, David saying there was an accounting error on his end and he actually owes us some money back. I was staying at the Tahoe Seasons Resort with a large party and we had come off the slopes an hour earlier than usual; I was famished. It was too early for dinner but we were so hungry. I looked at the menu as my stomach grumbled and decided I needed to I order some room service. The prices were palatable but the menu looked a bit sparse. I decided to give them a call. OMG they were so accommodating and pleasant. They gave me a whole slew of options for things that weren't on the menu and I almost got overwhelmed by the choices. Definitely in a good way though-- there are so many GREAT CHOICES that aren't on the menu! It seemed like they could make you whatever you wanted. The food arrived about 45 minutes later and it was piping hot. There was SO MUCH of it and everything was SO GOOD. One in our party had ordered chicken parm. It was secured in round aluminum to-go container that was filled to the brim with spaghetti, sauce, chicken parm, loads of melted cheese, and 4 pieces of toasted garlic ciabatta. Another in our party ordered the chicken wings to snack on before dinner and they loved it. The kids mac and cheese ($7) tasted and looked like it was made from scratch-- rigatoni smothered in a delicious cheese blend. It was so nourishing and delicious after a long day on the slopes-- definitely, enough for a tween and for her parents to steal some bites. The prices are reasonable and are such a welcome relief that I would consider staying in and having dinner next time we stay at Tahoe Seasons. Their menu is flexible, and it's not just a barbeque, they did some very elegant food and great presentation. They also had an event coordinator that I hired so I didn't have to worry on my wedding day and she was FANTASTIC! And her pricing was very reasonable. We hired Exquisite Grill to cater our wedding at Donner Lake and we were impressed by their service- The servers went above and beyond and helped our guest at the tables with all their needs. They opened wine bottles at the table- served and poured drinks as needed, picked up the plates after dinner, and more! To be honest, we didn't expect that, we thought they were just there to serve the food for the buffet. We also used their bartending services which saved us so much time instead of hiring another vendor for these services. However, you must provide the alcohol and any tools/supplies needed to make and serve the drinks which was fine. Besides the amazing service, the food was delicious! We got so many compliments from our guest on how tasty the food was- we ordered the bbq chicken, tri-tip, herbed potatoes, and grilled vegetables. David was completely flexible through out the planning process and allowed us to change our guest count and menu right before the event. I thought Davids pricing was super reasonable for the level of service him and his team provided. Being the bride and point of contact I was running all over the place getting ready for the wedding and didn't have time to checkin much with David and his staff. David and his team got to the venue early, got all set up and started grilling before I even noticed they were on property. The entire staff was a pleasure to work with and they set up not only their own equipment but also helped to decorate, guide guests and make sure everyone had what they needed though out the event. We hired Exquisite Grill to cater a welcome dinner for our wedding weekend at Commons Beach in Tahoe City. From the moment we contacted David he was very responsive and great to work with. He helped us develop a menu suitable for our group (140 people). My husband's dream was to have a whole pig roast and David made it happen! The serving staff were very professional and our guests quickly got through the buffet line. David checked out our venue a few days before and even though it wasn't an ideal set up to display the whole pig, he quickly adapted and everything went very smoothly. Exquisite Grill catered the after-hours mixer at South Tahoe Standup Paddle shop. They served a variety of deliciously prepared super-tender grilled meats. My favorite are the spicy chicken and pulled pork. After the event, Dave graciously came by our local Community Rec Center and donated trays of grilled meats, veggies, and olives to what was now an evacuation center for families advised to evacuate from the Kyburz and Strawberry areas due to the King Fire. Having a lot of family and friends coming in from out of town for our wedding, we knew the best thing would be a huge beach BBQ with Dave from Exquisite Grill roasting a pig for this group. He was up against a large group of long time pig roasters from the east coast. These people gather and have pig roasts a couple times a year...so not your normal crowd ...these people are somewhat experts....and Dave knocked it out of the park. I have also attended events that they catered. I have to say hands down, bar none, they are simply the best. The food is ALWAYS cooked to perfection, priced very reasonably and the staff has been consistent in their professionalism and attentiveness to guests. The Pig Roast is simply divine.
