The movers were late arriving to our house due to a catalytic converter theft on the truck, but they called ahead of the earliest scheduled arrival time and let us know what was going on. The administration, however, was awful. We put in our statement/assessment of our stuff that would be moved across town. The final price was about $300 over our quote even though we ended up having fewer items to move. We had some large pieces of furniture that may have taken longer, but that was all included in our original quote. We even moved a few large and light items ahead of time to make sure things would go smoothly. Additionally, it took almost one month for the appointment deposit to be refunded to my partner's credit card. It isn't clear if we we're charged for the first part of the move when the movers were waiting for a new truck to arrive since there was theft on the original truck. I would give the administrative side of this 0 stars. I'd honesty rather just contact the two me. Who moved our stuff next time to do it independently. I cannot state enough how great they were with the move.

I'm writing to share my experience with this moving company in hopes of helping others avoid the…read moresame situation. My move from La Crosse, Wisconsin to Woodbury, Minnesota should have been a relatively straightforward studio apartment move -- no beds, no appliances, no large furniture. Just boxes, books, a small couch, and a coffee table. What I ended up with was one of the most frustrating and disappointing service experiences I've encountered -- marked by poor communication, hidden charges, concerning employee behavior, and zero accountability from management. The movers were scheduled to arrive between 8:00 and 10:00 AM. We received no communication until 10:30 AM, and they didn't show up until 10:50. Work didn't begin until about 11:10. Yet at the end of the job, they claimed they arrived at 10:30 and billed us accordingly. Despite the clear discrepancy, no time adjustments were made. To make matters worse, the movers took an extended stop at Kwik trip during the move -- over 20 minutes -- which they also charged as part of their service time. That stop, along with bathroom breaks and idle time, were fully billed as if they were actively moving items. Before the move, I received a written estimate of 2 to 4 hours of service. What wasn't clearly explained was that this "service time" included the entire 2.5-hour drive from La Crosse to the Twin Cities -- leaving only 45 minutes for loading and 45 minutes for unloading. That is completely unrealistic. I was quoted approximately $2,000, which aligned with their original $1,800-$2,300 estimate, and I signed off on that in good faith. But at the end of the move, I was stunned to receive a final bill of $3,150 -- well above the quoted range and over $1,000 more than what I was told to expect. When I asked how the charges had escalated so much, I was told, "This happens all the time." The movers blamed the company's estimators, saying they never ask the right questions and regularly misquote the scale of the job. They even gave examples of jobs where people claimed to have four rooms of items but actually had a full house, requiring multiple trucks and additional days of labor. From their perspective, this disconnect is standard -- and it's customers who pay the price for that broken process. Beyond the billing issues, the conduct of one of the movers was extremely concerning. He was visibly angry throughout the move, often disengaged, throwing boxes, slamming equipment, and taking frequent phone calls. At one point he asked to use our restroom and took a 15-minute break. He wasn't consistently moving items, and his energy was tense and off-putting. At one point, I asked, "Are you okay?" and his answer was: "I hate my job. I have to do this all the time to people. They never have a good experience. We get no support. We're the ones stuck disappointing customers all day. I want to find something else." That behavior made me feel uncomfortable in my own home. His frustration was clearly real, but it should never spill over into a customer's experience. The second mover was much more composed and professional -- doing his best to move things forward -- but it was obvious he was also caught in the tension of a job that had gone off track. When I asked to speak with a manager, the movers called two people. One finally called back -- but refused to speak with me directly and only communicated through the movers. I was told someone would follow up on Monday. Mangers at this location must not work on weekends? Very concerning with, I'm guessing, most moves are completed during the weekend. Why wouldn't you want to discuss with me this process in the moment? Again leaving a hard job to your movers even harder when not given support. I'm sharing this not out of bitterness, but to give a clear and honest account of what happened. The lack of transparency around pricing, the miscommunication between departments, and the emotional volatility from one of the movers created an experience I wouldn't wish on anyone. Moving is already stressful -- what you don't need is an inflated final bill, unsafe energy in your home, and a company that ghosts you once you've paid. If the company is willing to reach out and resolve this, I'm open to that. But more than anything, I want others to know what to expect. Based on what I witnessed and what the movers themselves shared, this is not a one-time issue. It's a systemic problem. And that's exactly why it needs to be shared.

While other…read morecompanies were quoting me nearly 3x as much and worse service, U-Pack came thru with a much better quote and unbelievable customization for what I needed. I hired movers in Minneapolis and loaded up the truck. Four days later, u-pack arrived with my stuff ready for my Washington DC movers to unload it. If I had one complaint (I don't, but /if/ I did,), it would be that u-pack won't help you on the other end of the transaction. If you're moving to a suburb or a place with a loading dock, you're 100% fine. I was moving into the city and needed to have parking for this semi, which proved very difficult since I didn't yet live in the city. Even so, U-Pack worked with me to find a visible solution and ended up storing my items on the truck for a few extra days until my parking permits could take effect. Final comment on this: on what was already a very challenging and stressful move, their dispatchers and drivers were a 6/5 stars. They were so nice and patient. I told one dispatcher the problem with parking and she said "you sound so stressed, sweetie. Don't worry, we'll find you a solution. Welcome to DC." I seriously would have hugged her through the phone if I could have.

Their policy of pay for only what you use is great - we had two ReloCubes delivered and only used one. No hidden fees or taxes, unlike Pods! Reading the BBB reviews of Packrat scared me away, so I stuck it out with UPack and couldn't be more satisfied. My ReloCube arrived well ahead of schedule and it was dropped off early in the morning. Just a word of advice though: When loading your contents, don't call to schedule your pickup until it's totally ready! They don't offer pickup windows. I asked them to pick it up at the end of the day (which they said they'd try but couldn't guarantee it) and it came at 10am - yikes I wasn't ready! Thankfully they came back the next day for no charge. Barb on the phone was really personable and pleasant. She gave me a suggestion on what to check out on my road trip and it was awesome! Thank you so much UPack I'll recommend you any day!

Pros: -1 My slot was originally at 8:30a, but with days notice I needed to start earlier, and they were able to move it up to 8am. 2- Each individual I spoke to on the phone when setting up the appointment seemed patient, was helpful, and never came off pushy like movers can (at times). 3- The 3 guys sent were overall respectful. The lead seemed to have his stuff together and knew what he was doing, the other two (who he said were newer) weren't as efficient, but again respectful. Cons: 1- Service was from 8a-11a for the equivalent of a studio. 2- They came 15mins late, the commute between the two locations should have been 15mins but ended up being 30 because they had to stop for gas. Unfortunately when they arrived a garbage truck was now blocking the loading dock so that added another 10mins, and another 5-10mins was lost because toward the end of the job I went to my car and when I returned the lead mover was just standing outside the unit because "the door was locked", which it wasn't. He just didn't use his muscle to push open. So in all, over 45mins of wasted time, which costed me. 3- When I questioned their timing, I was told it's because I had a lot of boxes. To be fair, I did, but they were mainly smaller boxes (like for shipping). If anything i think they dragged their feet to milk the time which is very unscrupulous. 4- Their failure to used a door stopper in the beginning resulted in the unit door being scratched, which one guy tried to convince me was there before . FALSE! Anyway, the damage was shared with CMM, but there was never follow-up. Ultimately, maintenance repainted it. 5- Despite boxes being labeled for the rooms they belonged in, they paid little attention. For example those for kitchen in bedroom. 6- I ended up having to help move the dresser since it wasn't placed where I requested. By the time it was realized 2/3 of guys were at the truck and lead asked if I could help. Since I was paying for the service I would have rather not, but it was easier than having to do it alone later. Perhaps I should send them an invoice. 7- Before they took off, I wanted to just to take a peak at the back of the truck to ensure nothing was left behind. The reception to that request was odd. I mean whats the big deal?! Ultimately I went and ensured. 8- In all the delays costed me and I paid about $300-$400 more than anticipated. Funny thing is the lead kept stressing the whole gratuity thing at the end. I gave them each $20 and the look I got seemed like it wasn't enough. It instantly left me wishing I had given ZERO. My last thing which is more of a suggestion, CMM should consider investing in tees or some branded merch for their staff. Having guys show up in sneaker, crocs, and street clothes really didn't provide a professional look which yes, is possible for movers.
