Undisclosed Fees, Misleading Pricing & Unprofessional Owner…read moreI will start with this- I have never written a bad review about a small business- I also own a business and know sometimes things happen. But this is beyond anything I have ever experienced. I would not recommend Curry Moving & Storage company based on my experience. We needed assistance with a few large pieces of furniture (couch, dining table, 2 beds & a dresser) to be loaded into a U-haul. We sent them the address & photos of the furniture and were quoted a price for 2 hours minimum of work. Once they completed the 2 hours, the mover presented me with a bill that included an additional half hour of labor and transportation cost. These additional transport time fees were never disclosed upfront- after all, they knew how long it would take them to arrive at our location and drive back, it could have easily been included. The final cost ended up being significantly higher than expected (about 25%). After a lengthy discussion with Kathy at the office, she said to disregard those fees and pay the original quote. The mover then insisted payment be made with cash or check (which was also not disclosed nor is in their contract that we signed). While the mover was still there, we attempted to call Kathy back twice to pay with a card and there was no answer either time. The gentleman finally got tired of waiting, sent her a text and wrote on the form, Paying by credit card per Kathy. About an hour goes by and the owner, Larry, calls. The first thing out of his mouth was "I hear we have a problem & you are refusing to pay" We explained what happened and he said we were lying and that everything was disclosed. He insisted the additional charges were "industry standard". How would we know this unless it was disclosed in the quote? He then threatened to come to our location to "handle this". Having concerns for our safety, I paid the additional charges. I have never dealt with a more unprofessional business owner. The way he spoke to my wife and I was disturbing and unhinged. A moving company should be transparent and upfront about all potential charges before the job begins, not surprise customers after the fact. If you choose to use this company, make sure you get everything in writing, including ALL possible fees, because the pricing was not handled honestly or professionally in my case. Very disappointing experience. *I have a copy of the quote that was sent over and reviewed every line and nowhere was it disclosed that we would be responsible for additional travel time. They also added a 3% fee for using a credit card which was not in their estimate.
