We needed a climate-controlled storage for about 6 months after moving from Key West to Fort Myers. Public Storage seemed to offer the best combination of cost and convenience, but the closest one to our temporary location didn't have climate-controlled units there, so we chose the next closest, this one at Kelly Road. They have a substantial number of units in four separate buildings, all seemingly climate controlled. Our movers rolled in to the yard (it's all fenced in and gate controlled) and were able to quickly get unloaded and store everything away. Chris was on the desk when we went in a day before the movers were to arrive, and he handled our registration contract quick and efficiently. The property is very clean. They offer a variety of packing materials and other things relating to moving and storage. We can recommend this location without qualification. read more

as usual, yet another trying to swindle people with insurance. I have plenty of insurance coverage. I confirmed it with my insurance company, which is Allstate. I had to jump through hoops to cancel the insurance with Public Storage. It took me over an hour to find the segment of insurance on the Public Storage app. I was finally able to cancel it and took a snapshot of the verification because I know these people at Public Storage will probably try to cheat me. I have been a customer for several years. Even though the facility is a nice one, this location is more expensive than any other competitor. They raise the rent constantly. We are now up to $504 @month for a 10 X 20 drive up which is robbery. They have made many mistakes. They wanted to gain access several years ago to "paint" the units. There was nothing to paint. Just aluminum walls remain. So, they removed the cylindrical locks and never replaced them. Then, after the last big Hurricane, they contacted everyone and said that there was water and mud damage and had to gain access again. There was no damage but lots of stuff was missing. I did not pursue it. When they removed the cylindrical locks, we had to replace it with a standard padlock and key. They put their own temporary lock on it until I was able to replace it. They used to have a resident manager who is no longer living there and the office is no longer manned. Everything is done remotely. I should have removed my things a long time ago and am finally doing something in order to get my things into a more reasonable storage up the road. There seems to be poor regional management and I am not impressed with the way that they run their business. For a time, they were inconveniencing me because I was living and working overseas and felt that they were not reliable or understanding about my inability to return to this location to fulfill their requests to change locks, "paint" and "Hurricane" damage which did not exist. At one point, their regional manager called my "emergency contact" without contacting me first. For the record, I have never been late with payment and in recent years used "auto pay". This location needs to get it together and run it with customer service in mind. I am now paying a fraction of the rental price with their competitor up the road. $504 @ month is not sustainable for anyone. I just notified their "chat line" of my intention to vacate the premises and was offered a $100 @ month discount. Even $404 @ month is way out of line for this storage location. I would not recommend this location at these rates. I think they are disorganized and lacking managerial oversight. I wish I could stay but it is not cost effective. read more

There has been a natural disaster. Storm surge damage further inland than expected. No electricity for literally miles. Homes and businesses are gone. Boats are in peoples front yards, flooded out cars block the right of way and there are no working stop lights anywhere. We stashed post hurricane supplies in our storage unit in the hopes that we might have everything needed after the storm even if the house blows away. it worked! But not really. Public Storage has chained the gate closed until further notice. Never mind about your generator, your emergency supplies, food, water, medicine, tools, camping gear, bicycles etc. They need to make sure that it's "safe for everyone." I can see the door to my drive up unit completely unobstructed except for the massive chain. "Come back tomorrow," I'm told. The next day I'm there waiting for someone to open the gate and am told I should come back tomorrow again. I was not happy about this and let it be known. I was informed local law enforcement would called if I did not leave. I thought this was a grand idea and decided to wait for the Sheriff's Deputy to stop by. Three hours later and no cops, no access to storage unit and no public bathroom, I left to go pee. Today is the third day after the hurricane and I'm driving 40 miles each way again to try and get my supplies. Wish me luck. I'll be moving to a new storage company ASAP. The half dozen or so competitors within a mile or two of this location were all open by yesterday afternoon. They don't have electricity either. They got flooded too. They are obviously more concerned with people than unnecessary corporate processes that deprive disaster survivors of their belongings and supplies. Just because they can. Shame. read more

I would love to stay at this location but it seems every six month or so there is an increase in rate. When we started we were quoted a rate of $108.00 a month. The day we show up we were told that it turned into $150.00 a month due to a system error. Now going on 2 years later they want to raise the rate to $274.54. I have no choice but to leave. Lets not forget that IAN flooded the whole complex and they tried to force owners to sign a waiver to release Liability. I would not sign it and I had to call the Sheriff before they would allow me to enter. read more

My experience with Public storage was pretty good with the exception of raising the rates every year. I called the Colonial office (no one manages the Kelly office) to set up a transfer to a bigger unit. Made an appointment and when I arrived (all the way from Cape Coral) I was informed they did not have any larger units available unless I wanted to change buildings and be on a ground floor. After Ian damage there was no way I would take a ground floor. The two young ladies were not helpful at all. Pretty much said too bad. Needless to say I am moving to another location with a larger unit for half of what they were going to charge me. read more

The property manager was extremely helpful to us after Hurricane Ian. We lost a lot but what we had left was important to say the least. She lives on site and runs a tight ship. It feels very secure, clean and stress free. Would recommend highly. read more

Oh my goodness! I have rented several storage units considering I'm a veteran of the US ARMY, and currently a traveling nurse who has been traveling for several years. I rented two storage units from the Kelly Road location. First, I'd like to say thanks so much to Phil at the Colonial Blvd location who went out of his way to make sure I obtained the storages I needed with the monies I had already spent! Kudos to you for your excellent customer service! Laura, Jason, and Peggy provided excellent customer service! When I showed up at the Colonial Blvd location Phil referred me to the Kelly Road location who had the storage space available I needed. Horrible place to rent from. We have been with them for 8 years (shame on us) and they kept raising the rates every 6 months. We started at $84.00 a month and now it is $384.00 a month. After the hurricane happened we lost almost everything and needed to get into our storage unit and could only get into it the last 3 days of October. We were told we would not be charged for the month of October or refund it because they had already charged us. Guess they don't back their word, because we stayed with them we didn't get the credit. They didn't tell you that if you stayed with them they wouldn't give you the refund. I called the office and Patti said I didn't say that but, I and 10 other people in the office that day beg to differ. She told me to call the national office and the girl from the national office said that they were told that if anyone from Florida called in to say they would not get there money credited. National office had sent out a email to say no one would get the credit if they stayed with them and this was after we were told we would get a credit. This girl told me to call Patti's boss, I did and left messages twice and guess what .... she never called me back. Gave us a 25.00 credit for a month when we only got to use our unit 3 days. Shame on all of you. We lost almost everything in hurricane and you took what was left. We are moving out and on to a better place. read more

My experience with Public Storage at Kelly Road, Fort Myers has been disappointing from the start. I moved belongings from TX years ago having called to reserve in advance. I specifically inquired about 10 x 15 space with climate control. I arrived late at night with moving ready at 9:30 when they opened (late for such a hot climate). everything was already moved in when I realized it was not climate-controlled. There is constant evidence of huge cockroaches and turds about. I could not afford to move again when realized error. As remained there for years, PS continued to raise the rent until over $300. When I met another man who stores there inside, he informed me that he gets raised rates but negotiated them and they lowered rate. just before having it moved to an Aor conditioned, month pest controlled unit unit for $140, they offered to lower to $245. the Manager is nice and I wish you luck. read more
