On November 14th I visited the website for Extra Space Storage and began placing a reservation for a storage unit. I entered all of my contact information, my credit card information, and chose the size storage unit we were interested in. Prior to the checkout process, I noticed there were some extra charges in the itemization, specifically pertaining to a padlock and flood insurance, neither of which were optional. I did not agree that those items should not be optional, so I left the website without finishing the order, and closed my browser. *To be clear, what I am saying is that I did not complete the order. I left the website without going through the checkout process. I did not click Submit, I did not accept any charges, and I did not sign a contract for the rental of the storage unit. I simply left the website completely.* On November 26th I noticed there was a charge on my credit card dated November 15th from Extra Space Storage. There was a company phone number listed in the description of the transaction on my online account, so I called this number and spoke with a man named Roy. Roy listened to my explanation of what happened. He said he could not find my name or phone number in his system, and did not know why I had been charged if I was not in his system. He said he would look into the problem and call me back on Monday. Unfortunately, Roy did not leave me feeling very confident that he understood the situation, so I thought it best to contact my bank and initiate a dispute of the charge so there would be a record of it. The following Monday, December 2nd, Roy called me and we spoke briefly. Roy still did not seem to understand the situation, so I explained it all again. I also encouraged him to contact the IT department for their company website and ask them if they could find any sort of error with the website that would cause it to initiate a charge even though an order had not been completed. He told me he would try to look up the people responsible for that and speak to them about my experience. (I have not heard from Roy since then.) My bank issued a temporary reversal of the charge while they investigated, but say the company has not yet responded to their questions (now a month later). All of this was a very unfortunate first impression of Extra Space Storage. Today I got an email from them asking me to review them on Google, Facebook, and Yelp, hence the review. read more

I am sick in tired that they keep raising the prices on my storage unit. I would think that they will value having long term customers than short term ones. Not only do I have one unit I have 2. I got a decsent price when I moved in and that's why I went with them instead of other competitors. They get you in with a good price but after a few month they raise it and they keep raising it. I am so furious right now. I haven't found a place yet with outrageous rent prices. Now I am going to have to start looking for another company to move my stuff too because it getting too expensive for me. read more

Horrible. I wouldn't recommend this storage facility to anyone. In the 4 years we were there, the rental costs increased every year to where it was double what we started paying. The climate controlled unit building has ZERO interior cameras and one worthless camera facing the door that is blocked by trees. In the 4 years we were there, our unit was burglarized twice. No video available so nothing was done. The second burglary involved TWENTY TWO units that had the hasps ripped off. Not only was there no corporate "so sorry. Maybe we can compensate you for this trouble. Here's a $100 discount on this month's rent". No. Instead, the rent was INCREASED once again and less than 30 days after the units were burglarized. We were told "they're going to install some cameras" right after the second burglary. 3 months later, no action taken towards putting in cameras. The sad part? This facility HAD cameras before it was taken over by Extra Space. The decision was made that it wasn't cost effective. Shameful, pathetic, greedy corporate mindset. We watched the mass exodus after the second burglary. For general public safety, I hope the place stays empty. Max, you have my best wishes. You're rearranging chairs on the deck of the Titanic. read more

This facility was close to my home and well maintained but frequently people either hid the moving carts or didn't put them back where they belong. Also to get out of the gated facility, I almost had to bump the gate to get it to open. read more

Max made moving in and out of Extra-Space Storage on Dawn Avenue a breeze. He keeps accurate inventory so he knew that he had the 15' x 10' space I needed. I was in the climate controlled section and it was great. I will use them again when I need storage. read more

Not a review of the facility rather of the manager, Max I think. I recently moved into an office across the street. Came to organize and neglected to bring a Phillips screwdriver needed to hang a few things. Walked across the street to Extra Space thinking they might have and be able to loan one to me. Lo and behold, Max the manager was extremely receptive and happy to help. Brought out not one but two sizes of Phillips screwdrivers. Handed them over with a smile. A few hours later, when it was time to return them, Max was out of the office however when I called, he came within a minute or two to collect them. Much appreciated service! read more

I wrote a review about the rat infestation at Extra Space Storage. There was rat urine and feces everywhere. They chewed up and nested in my bedding and furniture. I had purchased the insurance which was a farce. It appeared that someone named Jim R reached out to me and asked me to call to discuss the situation. When I contacted Extra Space on Dawn Drive in Georgetown, Texas, I was told that the response to my review was an automated response from their marketing department and there was no one by that name. In my opinion, it is a slimy way to deal with a complaint. It was just something they put on their reviews to act like they are doing something about the problem. It's basically the same response you will get from the insurance company they employ. Head the warning... DO NOT use Extra Space Storage. read more

We needed "extra space" for stuff as we were moving and downsizing this summer. I get a great rate online and the manager was helpful and friendly. First we had an interior climate controlled space, then moved to smaller outdoor space. Both were clean, neat, well maintained. The only downside was they raised their rates twice in 6 months! Fortunately, we didn't need the extra space anymore, so it wasn't an issue. It would be best if they gave you the introductory price for at least a year... read more

Was so impressed with Tim's professionalism and knowledge that I couldn't leave without renting a large unit. The grounds are meticulously clean, the security is spot on, and the unit works perfect for our needs. The fact that access to our unit can accommodate a tractor trailer too made it a no brainer. The pricing is the best that we have found in our search for extra storage for our growing business. They're not in the insurance business but hooked us up with a great plan for a more than reasonable price. Short version. The climate controlled unit at the back of the property is not well monitored internally or externally. That doesn't seem important until you are broken into. External units might be fine. Review the available cameras for your unit and make sure it's sufficient for what you need. Let me start with the fantastic. When we first moved in here we felt so lucky to have found it. * Friendly for the most part * Reasonable prices compared to competitors * Clean facility * Tucked into a neighborhood that should discourage break-ins * You are the only ones with the keys because you use a personal lock * Code needed to enter and exit. * I've never had issues with the auto-pay Now let's move to the not so fantastic. This applies ONLY to the climate controlled building at the back of the property. The drive up units may be perfectly fine. * Be aware that there are NO internal cameras. Nothing in the hallways. Nothing in the foyer by the elevator. The only camera facing the front door is partially obscured by a tree and is very grainy. If a person knows this, burglers could easily block the camera view by parking on the right side of the door. * I'm not saying it's their fault that our unit was broken into, but the lack of cameras will prevent us from recovering anything. When identity theft is a possibility, this is a BIG deal. * I would recommend using 2 locks with different keys as a deterrent. * Stuff is stuff and we would much prefer the stolen items more than money, but the insurance we pay every month will most likely never be seen. There was no obvious signs of forced entry, but the contract states only in the case of forced entry will they consider the claim. I understand that insurance companies have a job to keep from paying out, but it's just another slap in the face. * Also be sure to put your code in when you enter and leave to create a window of time in case it is needed. read more

This place has the most professional and helpful staff. They were polite and courteous, found the space we needed for our RV. They even helped accommodate us as we were coming in from out of town and arriving in the middle of the night. They made sure we had a way to get inside the facility and park our rig. Ty, Max and Dianna have been amazing, The facility is clean and well kept. Love that! read more

Stay away from this place. We rented 3 spaces and our daughter had 1 space here. We had all 4 on our debit card for automatic payments. We went over to get some things from our daughters unit only to find their lock on there. According to their customer support our card was denied but surprisingly only on this 1 unit. They managed to deduct for the other 3. When we went over Monday to pay it turns out the manager said someone had told her that we would be out of the unit in 10 days. We have been at this particular spot for over 15 years and 3 different companies and never had any problems until this manager took over. Repeated calls to corporate office have resulted in zero calls back to settle the problem. If I could have selected less than 1 star I would have. read more

Save yourself the hassle, this place gets you in with an okay rate and then increases the rate several times over the course of being a customer. There are other places with climate controlled units that are cheaper than our standard unit is going to be with their most recent rate change. In the rear of one of our units, water leaked on some of our stuff and the response was "that's weird, it usually gets water in near the door." I was also told by the person that she thought I opted out of the insurance, but I knew I had paid for it on the unit. She said she would call me after she checked, but never did call. It turned out that I *did* get the insurance and the other girl showed me the pamphlet for the company to call when I went to give our notice for evacuating the unit. Apparently they're only good for compensating for vacancy by increasing their loyal customers' rates. read more

Beware of renting a storage space here! We rented a one car garage size, climate controlled unit several months ago. On a lark we stopped by to retrieve something from the unit, and imagine our surprise to find ALL of our belongings soaking wet, and sat in a couple of inches of water. The customer service people working at the facility were completely and utterly unhelpful. Not only did they not call a water removal company to vacuum up the standing water, they didn't offer to assist us in moving our belongings. I asked to speak with a manager, and the girl who works there told me there was no one for me to speak with, and that even if there was, no one was going to do anything about the situation. What an awful way to treat customers. There is a reasonable expectation that renting a climate controlled space means your belongings will remain safe and intact. In the even that they aren't, the company should do more than give an apathetic shoulder shrug. I am dumbfounded at the horrendous customer service, and appalled at the sketchy conditions of the facility. I'd look elsewhere for a facility to store your belongings, they certainly aren't safe here. read more
