My experience with Public Storage in Austin has been unbelievably frustrating…read more I rented a unit approximately 24 hours before my scheduled move-in. The manager called me personally, confirmed the rental, provided my access codes, and gave me my unit number. Everything appeared to be ready. When I arrived with my movers, I discovered I could not access my unit because the elevator access had been programmed for the wrong floor. This should have been a simple issue to correct. Unfortunately, there was no one on-site to help. I called the Public Storage customer service number repeatedly--at least 5 to 7 times--and left multiple urgent requests for a callback. Despite explaining that I had movers on-site and was unable to access the unit I had rented, no one responded. More than 24 hours later, I still had not heard from anyone. As a result, I was unable to move into the unit I had already paid for, while my movers stood idle at approximately $200 per hour. What should have been a routine move-in became an expensive and completely avoidable disaster. The most disappointing part wasn't the original mistake. Mistakes happen. It was the complete lack of support afterward. If someone had simply answered the phone or returned a call, the situation likely could have been resolved quickly. My takeaway is this: Public Storage was extremely responsive when I was renting the unit. Once they had my money and a problem arose, I was effectively on my own. I would strongly caution anyone considering this location to understand that there may be no on-site staff available when you need immediate assistance. If something goes wrong on move-in day, you may find yourself unable to access your unit and unable to reach anyone who can help. That's not a risk I would take again.

The manager is personal and friendly, there right away when you need help and never to be seen when you just want to take a bunch of stuff to your storage unit in the middle of the night. The prices are exceptional for what you get and you get a guaranteed price forever as long as you stay. They could be better at providing better payment options for customers. They were sent bank checks from my bank, and they refused to cash them. Instead... they held my bank's checks and charged me "late fees" instead. Saying that they did receive the full amount PRIOR to the due date, but since their policy is to not accept bank drafts they held the checks. They know what they're doing, they know they make more money charging late fees to customers. This business should be sued for this, but its not worth the energy and time. If anyone out there is doing a class action against them for stuff like this please contact me.
