I am updating my review...we have been there for a year. Our larger unit, we had no issue whatsoever. The smaller, closet-type unit, in an open walk way with other units, at the back, near the fence, was broken into for a 3rd time, and they had put their own lock on it. Yes, frustrating. All I wrote before happened, and was very frustrating at the time. This latest was a nuisance since we were loading up to leave CA. We should have put the round, can't cut off type of lock on such a unit. Greg, the manage is absolutely wonderful. He has helped us at every turn...some of this stuff, you can't control. My husband and I sincerely appreciate his efforts, and time we have now gotten to know him. After the Sept. 24th break in, the police issued a warning, saying many storage facilities were dealing with theft. So, it isn't just this place having problems. read more

Initially, they were a good storage facility. However, you need to know your rate increases will be every 7-8 months, not annually. This hikes the price more than 35% if you stay a couple of years. I've also experienced dirt and insect issues, for which they have disclaimers. If you have anything valuable, be sure it's extra protected or could be damaged. Since I just received yet another increase (four in three years), time to leave facility. Now, cost-prohibitive vs. reasonable. Appears more people are leaving for the same reason. read more

As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. The most inexpensive 10x10 storage space we could find was here. After dealing with Extra Space many times, I was leaning towards spending an extra $150.00 to use a different company. Regretfully, I decided to give Extra Space one last chance. With limited choices in the area, I'm sure there are many others who are left with no other options than Extra Space. My advice to all is BEWARE. Make sure that you check all information before you sign any documents. I spoke with Eva on the phone who called a week before we moved in to confirm information. She confirmed the price per month and ensured there would be no extra fees. Not only were there many extra fees (insurance, administration fee, etc.), but I was told the current lock purchased from their company would suffice. Upon our arrival, we were told that all 10x10 units with one door were already reserved. So, we had no choice but to get the double door storage space and in turn, had to purchase an additional lock. I needed a storage unit in Ventura that was not only clean and dry, but safe as well. They were the only facility that had all of those things, and a light! Imagine that?! Something as simple as a light in a storage unit goes a long way. Not to mention the best hours around. I searched for a while before I found them. They were friendly to boot. I have had a $435 unit that has sliding doors on both ends of the unit and have never had anyone break into my unit until I went Sunday, November 3, 2019. Both my locks looked untouched and undamaged. Unfortunately, my unit was broken into. I am so fukin upset...can't begin to express the anger I have. My unit was ransacked and items were stolen, 55" tv, leather/suede jackets, motorcycle jackets, motorcycle leather gloves...5-7 iPads and other valuables, broke marble top/dining table, broke open and took all valuable from every box stacked up. As far as the customer service it is FIVE stars all the way. The only reason I did four stars is because it is a little more (not much) expensive than some of the other places. After 1 year of having a space here, my cost for the space has gone up $15 for no apparent reason. I also recently noticed an ant infestation in my unit even though I only have sealed plastic containers in there so its not coming from anything I have. Lastly, the most shocking thing was what I saw this last Friday when I stopped after their office closed (around 7pm). There were so any suspicious people walking around who had arrived on bikes and the units opened honestly looked like someone was living there. They had dogs running loose, smoking cigarettes, blasting music and a few were wandering around shouting (it looked like they were on drugs). It was such an unpleasant and unsafe feeling and for paying close to $150 a month for the smallest unit (5x10), I decided to move out. Beware of all the 5 star reviews on Google - when you sign up for a unit here, they will pull up their review page and add a 5 star review and just ask you to post it. I don't know much about storage units and thankfully I was able to downsize and not need one any more, but this facility feels very sketchy and shady (in their business practice and the type of loitering they allow onsite) so I would recommend you take you business elsewhere. read more

Extra Space storage is a total rip off, have continuously raised prices. Started at $122 two years ago for a 10x15', i now pay $209. for nothing additional. it is called gouging with out guilt. It is just this simple, if you use them, they will continue rip you off until you stop renting from them. Horrible company read more

I would not recommend this facility to anyone. Not only was my rate increased by an outrageous amount just after being there 5 months my storage unit was broken in to. The surveillance videos were to be looked over to see if they could see who did it but apparently they were too busy to do this for me. No one ever got back to me regarding this. Very unprofessional. If I could give ZERO stars I would! First, yes it's the cheapest and lesson learned- The units are VERY OLD roll up doors that get stuck and are so rusted that you need two people to push them up, when I asked to have mine fixed they told me "Ya when the maintenance guys around"! Secondly 5 months after I moved my stuff in they raised the rates!! they charge much more for insurance than everyone else and they continually couldn't get the billing straight, so they would call relentlessly because "No one wrote your account information down"! When I called to cancel my account and go somewhere else, "now they need to charge me a late fee"?! DON'T GO HERE!!! read more

Storage is never a fun proposition, but David and Vanessa make it as pleasant as possible and I really think they DO care about their customers and the whole experience. Don't even think about it. This place is the sh thole of all sh tholes for storing your stuff. They also bait you with "great" move-in prices but will most assuredly keep hiking the rent beyond your reach to more than make up for the initial "deal" that lured you in. Once they have your possessions in hoc, they know you are a hostage at their mercy and will keep raising the rent. Count on it. This location also has a huge problem with mentally ill homeless people practically living at their lockers. Just go up a drive on any given day of the week and you will see what I mean. I slowly drove by one filthy-looking, shirtless, mentally challenged guy with the roll-up door of his tiny locker up, and he was sitting on the floor of his unit with his back up against the rear wall of his closet-sized space, and he was staring into an adult magazine with penetration very clearly depicted on the cover. Some other old crazy lady down the way was sitting outside her unit in the middle of heaps of clothing that she appeared to have had dragged out of her locker, and she haf a lot of her other possessions strewn about. By the looks of it, I was under the distinct impression that she was imagining she was in her very own living room. Another guy will often pull up his van for the day, drape a canopy between the roof of his rusty old van and the top of his locker for shade and even fire up a gasoline-powered generator on occasion to play some music or power up his tools where he meets frequent visitors of questionable character or "friends" on bicycles who come and go using his passcode. Storaging your stuff at a locker facility is depressing enough already, but why do places like this just make the experience so much worse and then charge so much? If you have to move your stuff here, get ready to lose it to an auction. You won't be able to keep up with the ridiculous monthly rent after awhile, not when they keep repeatedly raising it based on their bullsh t "market rate" excuses. read more

After much internet research, I decided to reserve a space with Extra Space Storage. Once I submitted my reservation, I got an immediate callback from management confirming and we were so pleased. Arrived the next day and we were so happy with the professionalism of the staff. They were pleasant, courteous and helpful. Our space is clean, secure, has light, and best of all was in our budget. Can we give them less than one star? Oh my gosh. It is only by having a monopoly over storage in the area that these people are even still in business. What is so amazing is that when you call they say "Extra Space Storage, how may I meet your extra space needs...?" But from there on, you are left in a sea of muck. They care about one thing and one thing only- MONEY. They will take every opportunity to get MORE money out of you and since they are storing your beloved belongings, they will kidnap them until you are forced to pay their exorbitant fee's. They pretend to have so many people around to help, but when push comes to shove you are left with only a voice mail message and no one doing anything other than wanting to take your money. On May 8, 2015 I moved out of my storage unit. I was told that I would not be charged for the month of May which is set up on auto pay to be charged on the 8th of every month. However, the 350 was charged. I have called 4 times to get a refund. Each time they have a different excuse for not putting the refund through. As of this date, I have still not received a refund of 350. read more

I would avoid this place. I would like to give them 0 stars if I could. My storage unit has had 2 attempted break-ins and no resolutions from the on-site management or higher. Numerous calls to the managers have done nothing to help with the issues. But they are happy to take your money each month while their rates continue to increase. If you are required to access your unit at night, good luck and be prepared. It's very sketchy and I have never seen the after hours security guard. There seems to be an abundance of people living out of their units and just wandering around. Tentants routinely drag their belongings out into the access road blocking access for others. It has gotten to the point my wife will not go there alone because it is unsafe to do so. We have even witnessed a car waiting, blocking the facility exit with a person standing there looking as though they were waiting for people to come out. I only hope I can get another unit soon before my stuff gets stolen. read more

The website and online reservations were very easy to make and did not cost me anything to reserve until I was able to come in person to take a look at the place (5 days). They showed me a couple of units and listened to my needs and offered the best unit available in regards to accessibility within the storage lot. The large 10 x 30 units (3-4bedroom house) have two door access on either ends which helps out a lot when loading and unloading and accessing stuff. I plan to make 3 rows so I can walk through my unit easily to make items accessible to me when I need them. The contract was reviewed comprehensively and the use DocuSign which makes for less paperwork hassle and everything is accessible online. Payments can be made online and autopay accepted which also makes life easier. It is only a monthly commitment without a long-term lease commitment which makes it very flexible if you are not sure how long you'll need it. Only 2 day notice needed for moving out. If you notify them prior to the next payment cycle there is no penalty and there is a nice grace period if u do miss a payment and they do call you out of courtesy to remind you if you are late. Another bonus is that the coded access to get into the gate are the earliest and longest that most self-storage places offer from 6am-10pm. So you can access it before and after work and 7 days a week including holidays! Security is great too! read more

It is easy to obtain a unit, especially with their on-line contract (which does not have an over-reaching provision that another well-known company has); easy to pay the bill on-line, and the staff is friendly and goes out-of-their way to meet your needs and answer questions. read more

A couple of years ago....before Extra Space Storage bought out the previous owner, we were paying $150 per month for a space. Since then we get at least a 10% rental increase and we are now paying $241. This is a national Real Estate Investment Trust that wants to squeeze every penny that they can out of consumers. read more

My primary issue was that within a few months of taking advantage of a web "special", my rent was increased 12%. I guess they assume most folks are stupid. Cost of living hasn't gone up that much in the last 7 years combined. Also, units not as well-constructed as my last cheaper unit up north.
