HER customer service gets a 10 out if 5 because she was definitely ON IT. This explains why this location has such great reviews. Thanks Amy! Original issue: Online move in process was great. My family has had a storage unit here for about 2 years...no issues. Then I decided to get another unit. Unfortunately, the gate is broken so when I went back to put things in the unit I couldn't get in the gate. Came back in the morning before work to try again, still no luck getting in. Turns out the gate is broken and we weren't told this when getting the unit. I dont mind the gate being broken- thats perfectly out of their control and they will be fixing it within about 10 days they said. My issue is with the fact that I wasn't notified, the sign on the gate remains indicating that it is open from 6am to 9pm, so twice I went within that time frame and couldn't get through. After calling this morning the person answering talked over us and wouldn't let us explain that the sign on the gate should indicate the ACTUAL CURRENT TIMES YOU CAN ENTER. Literally she hung up after talking over us and saying what she had to say. Now all my stuff has been sitting in a car overnight which isn't safe, and my one request that the times on the gate AND the website be reflective of actual times you can enter the property went unheard. Tried calling general customer service but it just loops you back to your local one. Again- the issue isn't in the gate being broken its the lack of competence and ability to effectively communicate current changes in time. I'm going to need them to get it together and do better.

Sadly, they were recently bought out by something called MyPlace Storage--the service is nonexistent; not open when they say they are; secure entry gate is broken and remains open; the garage door where you unload and load your belongings is broken and remains up; and, worse, the doors to the hallways leading to all the climate-controlled units are open to anyone and everyone. This storage facility was perfect for what I needed for a few months. I rented a climate controlled unit that included storing my cozy couch! Once I removed my things out of the unit, the items were exactly the same. If you rent a climate controlled unit -- you can only go into your storage unit during their business hours. Award Self Storage offers: a truck to move-in (did not use), along with several boxes and 2nd month rent for FREE! The facility sells boxes and such for typical moving needs. They also have carts inside the storage building to assist with moving items. Overall, this establishment did it's job and I had no issues while there. Also, the staff are nice and helpful when needed. Award Self Storage is 20 mins from Philadelphia which was a major plus!

However, the issue with this facility is the way it is constructed. It seems to have previously been a public storage facility, as both the entrance to the facility and some of units have very steep slopes. This makes it impossible to get some modern performance cars (which have low ground clearance) into some of the units without incurring damage. I attempted to get both my BMW M2 and Porsche Boxster into my unit and took damage, and ended up having to cancel my unit. Even getting into the facility was a challenge, as I needed to pull the cars into the entrance very slowly. As the facility is on a busy road, thats not always possible. I had not visited the facility for 2.5 months after signing up and requested a refund (which the owner did not agree to). My own fault for not visiting the facility. But once again, you never expect to find significant ground clearance issues at a collector car storage facility. This facility may work if you have an older collector car with better ground clearance, but i'd look at other facilities if you are trying to store a modern car.

This time I used the company for their "full packing services" which was anything but professional and I would never recommend to anyone. Two individuals showed up with their giant moving truck at 3 pm the day before our scheduled move and (as expected) couldn't find parking in the middle of Center City (we were not told ahead of time that they would be bringing a truck). They leave to drop the truck somewhere and return at 6 pm to START packing. Their "professional packing" consisted of haphazardly stuffing things into boxes, including placing liquid filled bottles upside down that ended up leaking through the boxes. The entire time they are packing, the main mover is complaining to us about how little he is paid per hour compared to how much we are paying for the services. It was beyond unprofessional and so uncomfortable, I am just baffled thinking back about it. Unfortunately the same guy showed up the following day for our long distance move across states. The complaining continued through the loading and unloading process, it was extremely uncomfortable and just felt so scummy. We still tipped well and I have a feeling he didn't allocate any of the tip to the other movers as we instructed. For the thousands of dollars we spent on this move, I would rate it zero stars. I would not recommend them to anyone, ESPECIALLY for "packing services". What a joke
