My family enrolled at Extreme Gym because my daughter was genuinely excited about gymnastics, and we hoped this would become a long-term activity for her. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing enough that we chose to terminate our membership.
Our concerns went far beyond a single incident. Throughout our time here, communication was inconsistent, policies were not clearly communicated, and when concerns were raised, there was very little accountability.
We were billed for circumstances involving our toddler son, who has never been a student at this facility and whose information was never provided to the gym. My husband briefly entered a room, unaware that there was any policy prohibiting parents from doing so because there was no clear communication or signage. Rather than acknowledging the lack of communication, we were told he had "forcibly entered" the room, which was simply not an accurate description of what occurred. That accusation was both surprising and upsetting.
Another concern was the lack of communication regarding class cancellations. My husband regularly commuted over an hour to St. Clair Shores to bring our daughter to class, only to arrive and learn that class had been cancelled on multiple occasions without us being notified beforehand. That represents a significant amount of unnecessary travel time, fuel, and inconvenience that could have easily been avoided with proper communication.
I was also disappointed with the way the summer showcase was handled. Families were required to purchase seats, yet there appeared to be little or no effort to ensure attendees were actually sitting in the seats they had paid for. Several of my invited guests were unable to sit in the seats we purchased because other individuals had taken them. If families are expected to pay for reserved seating, there should be an organized process to ensure those seats remain available for the people who purchased them.
Additionally, the temperature inside the gym during the showcase was extremely hot, making the event uncomfortable for athletes and spectators alike. When families are paying additional fees to attend these events, reasonable attention should be given to the comfort and overall experience of those in attendance.
Ultimately, I completed the membership termination process because I no longer felt confident in the gym's communication, customer service, or handling of concerns. My hope in sharing this review is not simply to express frustration, but to encourage meaningful improvements. Better communication, clearer policies, improved event organization, and greater accountability would go a long way toward improving the experience for future families.
Every family's experience may differ, but I encourage prospective members to ask detailed questions about cancellation notifications, billing practices, parent access policies, showcase seating procedures, and how customer concerns are addressed before committing to a membership. read more
