I am very happy learning Hapkido at this class. Grand Master is very nice. He teaches Marshal Arts with lots of practice and in detail. Before testing he makes sure that we are able to pass. I skipped my last test because Grand Master said that I need more practice. Even after passing the test he revisits the past techniques and gives us more practice. I can't find better class than this. I happily pay fees ahead of time to appreciate this great school so the expenses can be covered. The qualities I earned here are priceless. I hope EMAC stays opens for a long time! Since the pandemic, finding a place to help teach our son resilience and confidence has been a difficult one. As a parent we can only do so much to help prepare our children for the new world and it does take a village to help raise children positively. So glad we found this hidden gem of a studio. I can go grocery shopping next door while my son learns Hapkido! Hapkido is in my opinion to be one of the most practical of martial arts in real life next to Arnis. Most instructors at various studios we've visited only care to give out belt ranks to kids who show up or show off in class. The Supreme Grand Master really does teach and care for each of his students equally. For those of you who like watching movies, think Mr. Miyagi in real life. This is a non-fussy studio with students who really take the art form seriously and it shows in their demeanor and skills. I went to Academy of Hapkido at 387 Magnolia Ave #101 to sign up my 8 year old for classes. Hong sold me a package which included classes twice a week. Hong advised to bring my child on a Tuesday at 5:45pm, but to arrive 15 minutes early. When I arrived at 5:30pm on Tuesday, Mr. Hong was wrapping up a class with students who appeared to be between the ages of 5-10. The class wrapped up, and Hong started the next class, which he instructed to bring my daughter in. Upon starting class, I noticed that the other folks in the class with my daughter weren't anywhere near her age. It was a mix of 12-50+ year olds, with the majority being early-to-mid teens age. Upon having my daughter start the class, there was no introductions. My daughter was extremely confused and what to do and felt uncomfortable. Hong advised for her to sit down and rest. After my daughter rested for 5 minutes, he invited her back into the class. Again, without introducing himself to my daughter, or introducing my daughter to anyone in the class, or introducing the class to my daughter, he threw her in the middle of class which at the time was running laps around the dojo. My daughter felt extremely uncomfortable and out of place so I pulled her from the class and left. Upon returning to my home, I called him immediately and demanded a refund. I got off the phone with Hong promising that he would refund my card and that the refund would be accounted for in 7 business days. It's now 10 business days later and there is no refund. I just got off the phone with Hong and he advised that I needed to come into the studio to receive my refund and that I wouldn't be receiving my refund until I came into the studio and presented my card to him so he could perform the refund. My question is: Why didn't he call me and tell me my presence and my credit card was needed in his dojo in order to process the refund? Hong has proven to me that he is very dishonest by his following actions: 1. Attempting to place my daughter in a class she didn't belong in 2. By telling me he was going to refund me, not refunding me, and then not calling me to tell me I needed to come in to his business in order to finish the refund. The only reason why I knew I needed to come in to complete the refund is because I called him directly. Had I not called him to confront him about my refund, the refund never would've happened. This business is dishonest. read more

How time flies. Almost 7 years now training. My daughter is a black belt in Taekwondo and almost a black belt in Hapkido. My son has also joined and is a black belt in Taekwondo and is now in Hapkido. My son really enjoys coming and his favorite part is the sparring. He has gotten better in footwork and skill sets. Taking the class has helped in discipline and teamwork. They are focused in school work and if they get bad grades, Grandmaster has a stern talk with them. It is nice to see all the familiar faces learn and grow in the art as the years go by. Staying healthy as we get a little older has become more of a priority and this has helped me keep from getting really sick in a long while. I recommend taking classes at this school. You learn proper technique and you can go as far as you are willing to go. Grandmaster is high ranking and conducts seminars around the world. The techniques are authentic Hapkido and not watered down. Hapkido is a well rounded art that encompasses striking, kicking, throwing, joint locks, counters, and weapons. read more

The grand master has taught both my sons. They've been doing the same exercises for the past three years. He only cares about business. And the prices for a month? If you do if for a year, he doesn't let you refund it. And during the tests, I'm positive my sons need more discipline. He just sends an instructor to go tell them off. My sons, no matter how much they mess around, HAVE NEVER FAILED. Another student's parent spoke to me that if grand master failed people it would be bad for business. I think just doing what he is doing is bad for business. Twice I have asked Hong for a refund. He never did. So to get my "money's" worth, I have to wait for next year! A terrible business. My daughter Zara has been going to EMAC Hapkido class since May 2016. We are extremely happy with the Hapkido class and we highly recommend it to every family that knows what karate and Hapkido is about.
