The American Red Cross provided assistance to me due to a recent two-alarm fire in the apartment complex: Clary's Crossing. My apartment of eleven years was destroyed due to the fire. Within the destroyed apartment, was a pair of prescribed glasses. The American Red Cross provided a voucher, for an eye exam and a particular brand of frames to replace my prescription eye glasses. After some on-line research, I came across Eye Associates. I scheduled an eye exam, informing the receptionist of the American Red Cross voucher. I provided my contact information, and a link was emailed to me for first time clients. There was some confusion with the Eye Associates receptionist, regarding my American Red Cross voucher. I don't believe Eye Associates receives many vouchers from the American Red Cross. Some additional staff members of Eye Associates became aware of my situation, and immediately informed Dr. Hatal Rana. The Eye Associates staff was very professional and provided words of encouragement due to my recent crisis. Dr. Hatal Rana informed the staff the American Red Cross voucher was acceptable, and I was asked to be seated. Dr. Rana provided a through eye exam, and I was sent to the other side of the space for my prescription eye glasses. Mark provided excellent customer service throughout the entire process. Two weeks later, I was informed my glasses were in the office. I appreciate Eye Associates exceptional customer service during this difficult time in my life. read more

Dr. Rana is fine- seemingly thorough, competent, and well informed. My scrip is great. Everything after that is comically incompetent. Office staff drop calls, fail to return messages, mis-sent or didn't send contact lenses the first time, deferred or dodged responsibility, and have been utterly unresponsive/ uncommunicative with respect to their second try at shipping lenses directly to their office. Rude, bumbling, and frustratingly bad at their jobs. Life is too short to deal with bad infrastructure. Dr. Rana deserves better, but until she demands better, caveat emptor. read more

I have been using Eye Associates for over 20 years. Their service and attention to detail is truly amazing. Their staff is courteous and helpful, and always ready to assist with any concerns you may have. All three of my daughters have gotten glasses form them, as well as my wife and I. I retired several years ago to Delaware, and still make the drive over to Eye Associates for my vision needs. read more

Eye Associates was supposed to give me one free eye exam a year and a free pair of glasses a year they tried to charge me anyway where I caught them and they say oh okay they still charge me for the glasses we're always supposed to get a free pair of glasses once a year basic cheap glasses they still charge me and when I wrote them and asked them why they refuse to answer me or even address the issue when I went for an eye exam they wait until I go in and say oh because you're with Johns Hopkins HMO we are not going to investigate if you have cataracts why didn't they tell me before I wasted my visit with them to tell me this then I said well at least I'm using the drops you told me to use in my eyes and she goes yeah yeah a real smart ass I wouldn't recommend these thieving rude people to anyone read more

The care received at this practice is good, but it is a very poorly run office. They consistently keep you waiting for a long time even when there are few or no other people in the waiting room. As I type this, we have been waiting nearly an hour, most of that time with no one in else in the waiting room. For the past 15 minutes, the doctor we have been waiting on has been chatting with another employee about a business issue, so it's not even like they were held up caring for another patient. And there was no apology for wasting our time. We will be looking for a new eye doctor. read more

I got an eye exam at Eye Associates with Dr. Mund. The good news here is that the doctor was friendly and thorough with my eye exam. The bad news is that the overall professionalism of this business leaves a lot to be desired. The people seemed friendly enough, but new customers should know what they are getting into. Scheduling an appointment - it took me over 30 minutes on the phone to schedule my first appointment. The receptionist had trouble with the their computer system and verifying my insurance wound up being a hassle for her, and hence for me. I had to give them my social security number 4 or 5 times, which made me uncomfortable. Checking in - I arrived 30 minutes before my scheduled appointment time and wasn't seen until 30 minutes after the scheduled time. I can't be sure why this was, but the doctor did seem to come out and take at least one of his patients out of order. During the exam - throughout the course of the interaction with the doctor, I was left alone a few different times - causing what they told me would be a 30-minute eye exam to take over an hour. I had to do one of the tests twice since the person administering it gave me unclear instructions. Checking out - over the phone they told me the eye exam would be completely covered by my insurance. Yet, upon checkout, they asked me for $78. Apparently, some of the tests that the doctor requested weren't covered, but he never warned me of this or gave me an option to decline. I suppose the tests made the exam extra thorough, but of course they didn't reveal anything out of the ordinary. If given the option, I probably would have turned them down, since all I wanted to begin with is a new pair of glasses - my current prescription works just fine, the glasses themselves are just old and worn out. $78 is a lot to part with when you're walking in expecting to spend nothing out of pocket. Perhaps this is a new business? They seem like good people and I hope their business practices will improve over time. Until then, you may want to find another place to get a routine eye exam. read more

I wear contacts & glasses. I've come here for a few years halthough this go round there was quite a lag. Service here is great. Staff is very friendly. They work by appointment only. Call before you come up and wear your mask. There's hand sanitizer everywhere I was able to schedule over the phone and update my vision/ medical insurance over text. They are timely. I got a great deal on 2 pairs of glasses and was able to order my contacts through 1800contacts. I left with my contacts prescription and it only took 2 weeks for my glasses to come in. The doctor is thorough and comprehensive. This is my third visit for the year. I had my routine eye exam for glasses/contacts, then glasses pick up and now dilation & retinal scan. Everyone here is competent & professional. The location is clean and the inventory of glasses is updated. When selecting my glasses, I didn't freely walk around and review the displays. Instead, the tech said, I'll get what works for your face. She then presented me with 20 pairs and I selected two. read more

Had an appointment with Dr. Rana. I arrived 10 minutes early and the last patient was leaving as I arrived. The doors to her office and the examining room were open and I confirmed I was the only patient in the office. Shortly after I arrived I heard the receptionist tell her I was there. Obviously her time was much more valuable than mine, as I waited over 1/2 hour. During this time, she was able to call her staff into the office to discuss some matter, but not her patient. I finally gave up and left, informing (nicely) the receptionist of my dissatisfaction with Dr. Rana making me wait for such a long time with no other patients being seen. About 3 minutes later, while in my car, I received a call telling me the doctor would see me now. I said the doctor could have seen me more than 1/2 hour ago. I found another practice and will not be returning. Note this review pertains only to Dr. Rana. I have had very good experiences with Dr. Fine and the rest of the staff. Unfortunately, she ruined it for me and lost a long-time patient. read more

Friendly staff. Unfortunately that's all the good I can say. They set expectations that they did not met 3 times. The first time was the amount of time it would take for my glasses to be ready. They were about one week off with the time frame. They also ordered my lenses with the incorrect lens measurements. This happened because they measured the distance between the center of my eyes incorrectly , But mistakes happen. But once again was over a week off in the time frame they set for when my new glasses would be ready. What really bothered me the most was the lack of communication. After the expected time frame elapsed , they did not contact me with any updates. They acted as if it was my responsibility to call and ask them when my glasses would be ready. Eagle Eye Care has taken very good care of me ever since. I highly recommend them! read more

I would recommend this practice to anyone! I have had glasses since I was in elementary school and my family has been coming here since before then. About a month ago, I went in to see Dr. Rana to update my prescription. She asked to dilate my eyes for a general check-up. I had no symptoms, but she found that I had a partial retinal detachment. While this was scary news, she was so helpful as I went through surgery and adjustments to ensure I did not lose my vision. I will forever be thankful for Dr. Rana and the staff at eye associates for the individual care and attention they gave me! read more

Good eye exam, awful service. Awful glasses. Please just get your prescription and go somewhere else. This place has made me miserable. Please don't be persuaded by the fact that they have a eye glass maker in house. I purchased eye glasses and sunglasses from this place, my eye glasses are sloppily cut, which is apparent because they are frameless on the bottom. They broke the frames on my sunglasses weeks ago and still don't have a new frame in. When I called and asked about getting another frame that wasn't on back order, Ron was extremely rude to me, asking me to pay for the lenses that they already cut for the frames that they broke. Where is my option for 0 stars? Condescending, rude, not helpful, and money hungry. I called days ahead to make an appointment. I was very thorough with the receptionist over the phone and we talked at length about the exam and insurance coverage. I went in and came prepared with all of the paperwork. However, the doctor and a different receptionist changed their tune, was completely unapologetic, and tried to coerce me into paying out of pocket. No one should feel humiliated at a doctor's office where you go to receive care. read more

The manager Amanda has answered the phone, I asked her to fax over my most recent prescription to visionworks and she hung up on me. When I called back and asked for her name she refused & placed me back on hold. She returned to the phone & I asked her why she hung up on me. She said she did not hang up and claimed it was her coworker. I asked her how did she not hang up when I had to call back? She persisted in telling me that she did not hang up but put me on hold for music which was inaccurate. She began to yell at me and ask me why I was screaming at her so that those around her would think that I actually was to justify her tone and yelling at me since they could not hear me. I really hope the calls are monitored so they can hear she talks to callers, she is so disrespectful. read more

The eye exam by Dr. Mund was fine, but do NOT buy your glasses from the in-house store. High pressure, shady sales tactics. I was presented with several frames without price ever being discussed, the lense options were never explained, and once I was given the total price and asked for the breakdown and details, the salesperson (Joe, I think?) acted annoyed and put off. How dare I ask about the price??? The frames were very expensive, and Joe told me what a great deal I was getting because of my vsp plan. When I later looked them up online, I saw that I could have gotten a much better deal (about 1/2 the price) by ordering them myself. I also was not provided with a detailed receipt, showing the price breakdown. Still annoyed when I returned to pick the glasses up a couple weeks later, I asked a different salesperson (Joe was not there) for a receipt with a detailed breakdown and was given a receipt with a breakdown but using cryptic, vague language that made it difficult to understand what I paid for. I guess I was naive heading into this. I expect slimy sales tactics from car dealerships, but it never even crossed my mind to be prepared for this going to buy glasses. read more

Dr. Fine is extremely nice and gave me a very thorough exam and as I am getting close to 60 that is very important. Worked with Ron selecting and ordering new glasses. This is an excellent practice and the front desk is very down to earth and helpful. Dr. Rana is great and is very good at putting your mind as ease. I recommend her anyday. I hate going places where I cant ask questions or the staff is rude and unprofessional. This office has changed so much ... The frames are also up to date. I like coming to Eye Associates because Dr. Fine is really nice and seems to do a much more thorough exam than I was used to getting at those "doc-in-a-box" kind of places. I appreciated the way he used various methods to get my measurements as accurate as possible. Unfortunately, I rate 3 stars because I really don't like the sketchy way they sort of rope you into ordering contacts or buying glasses from them. If you prefer to order online, you have to be REALLY assertive about asking for your prescription since it won't be provided to you unless you ask. I think that's a strange policy that makes the checkout process feel dishonest. read more

A truly wonderful experience at Eye Associates! Dr. Rana and the staff are exceptional, I cannot recommend them highly enough. Bria and Kristy at the front desk were so nice and helpful the first time I came in with all kinds of questions. Both they and the Optician, Mark, kindly and patiently answered all my questions and helped me sort out my insurance benefits. They were so helpful and made it so easy, I picked an appointment time for the next day and they took care of the rest. My exam with Dr. Rana was great! She's very nice, professional, and of course very knowledgeable. Her exam was thorough and she explained what she was doing and why throughout (which I really appreciate as a patient). She took the time to answer all of my questions and really made me feel like my appointment was "my time", that it was important and I wasn't just being rushed along (another deep felt appreciation as a patient). After my exam, I met with Mark, the Optician. Mark was a delight to work with! He was fun and very knowledgeable, he was so helpful in choosing the right frames and lenses for me. I really love that he used his knowledge and experience to inform/educate you, and not to pressure/bully you; that was awesome and refreshing. Dr. Rana came out to say good bye and was kind enough to answer a few more questions for me before I left. they have always succeeded in fitting my glasses exactly the way I like them. I have had difficulty getting my bifocals fitted properly at other places. The eye exam was extremely thorough and Dr. Fine worked wonderfully with the cataract surgeon in doing the followup care to save me a long trip back to the surgeon. read more

While Dr. Rana seems to be a very competent doctor, the amount she has raised prices is outrageous. Dr. Fine may not have wanted to stay in practice, but his approach to customers was much better. Dr. Rana seems to have zero interest in anything but increasing revenue. I will not go back, which is a shame because I hate looking for new doctors. My lenses went from $80 three months ago to $132 for the exact same ones, with the feeble explanation, 'prices have gone up.' Really? I swallowed the uptick in price for my examination but this is no way to run a company. I have been involved with entrepreneurial development for most of the last 18 years and I know what I'm talking about. read more

Looking for a place to get new glasses a friend suggested that I go to Eye associates. The staff there is knowledgeable and professional and heck they even gave me a comedic show.. Mark and Ron took the time to help me pick out frames and explained the benefits of my first progressive glasses. When I returned to get the glasses they were perfect as they educated me on how to use my new progressive lenses...And yes I got another comedic show(those guys are funny). If you are ever in need of your first progressive eye glasses I would recommend you go to Eye Associates because it is the best small eyeglass shop in Columbia.. read more

I have to agree with Rob M's review. If you go there for an eye exam and need glasses, take the prescription somewhere else. The doctors are fine but I was not pleased with the service by the opticians. I ended up paying an exhorbitant amount for my glasses - over $800 (mainly for the frames) and was not advised that there were less expensive options. I went back with the glasses after trying to get used to them and was talked into buying "computer" lenses. When I asked about exchanging the frames for less expensive ones, I was told that the insurance had already been put through and it was implied that nothing could be done. The optician was doing his best to "make me happy" and he was ignoring my bad mood and my requests to either return the glasses or exchange them. I did not receive a detailed receipt either. I really did not appreciate their "customer service" at all. I do not recommend Eye Associates. read more
