I've been a patient of Dr. Castellano's for a while now, starting from her first clinic in the Royal Oaks section of Miami Lakes. As a certified pediatric optometrist, she's the only one with the patience, skill and bedside manner to help when I need to have my eyes dilated...yes even into my 40's :) She recently expanded her practice to this other location in downtown Miami Lakes and works mostly from there. I was told by the front office staff that there's usually another doctor at her original location. Before I became more physically active, she was the one who said I should have my cholesterol checked based on what she saw on my eye exam. Both of her offices have imaging that can take an in-depth picture of the inside of the eye to evaluate the different working parts. The good thing about this device, I was told, is it gives one an alternate to the infamous dilation drops. Ah yes, the drops. Since I had a substantial change in my lens prescription, have a family history and had been a couple of years since I had the dilation she recommended I get it done this year (thankfully all is good). Yes, the drops feel like that scene in "Clockwork Orange" But Dr. Castellanos has a wonderful chairside manner and was able to keep me calm through that procedure. Like her original office, she has a digital lens system that lets her check multiple combinations for glasses pretty quickly. There's also a great selection of lenses, including some very nice rimless like the ones I chose. The candy part in the office name? You get a complementary dessert after the procedure (the raspberry chocolate truffle is my choice.) read more

Same here. Their business hours are inconvenient and short, they have issues jeeping up with patient requests, and seem to be happy to cash that insurance payment but not to care about the patient once they receive the funds. I came in on Nov. for contacts exam, and was told I would get a call back for the lens trial. No call after a few weeks, and I called them instead: was told they were on back order. 3 months later, still no call and I had to reach out again. After finally having my trial, had to come back during the week. They never have openings on Saturday for this, so it took me a few tries to get in there but my job does the allow me. Now they want to charge me if I request the trial again, but wont give me my prescription if I don't. Never doing business with small boutiques ever again. read more

Terrible. They force you to do a retinal scan which is an extra $50. Then I went in for a contact fitting which was $80. No one told me I only had a short period of time to decide on what contacts I wanted. I unfortunately caught covid shortly after the fitting and forgot about doing the follow up. Now they want me to pay an extra $45 for a follow up in order to get my prescription. Bad business!!! read more

Went to my fav Optometrist today, Dr. Castellanos! I have -8.25 on my right eye and -8.00 on my left eye. Needless to say, I need someone who knows what they are doing for these fragile ojos. Think you don't need to get your eyes checked? Wrong! It's so important to include that as part of your routine physical! Kinda like going to the dentist except this doctor is a much nicer. How? Not only does she have amazing shades and stylish glasses, she sells gourmet candy and chocolate (hence the name)! I don't know about you but that's my type of doctor! read more

Let me start by saying how cute and inviting this location is. Such a creative concept! Stylish glasses and eye exams in a candy store. But most importantly, Dr. Gianni Castellanos was so personable and thorough. You don't feel like you're at an eye doctor. She makes you feel very comfortable as if she's known you forever. Eye Candy Miami Lakes is everything. It's simply gorgeous with no detail overlooked. The doctor, Dr. Castellanos, is the sweetest. She's great with kids and has created the most welcoming atmosphere for an optometrist office. The front of the shop is all chocolate, candy, popcorn, treats, and eyewear. The back is where she conducts the eye exams. The candy is delish(and they offer free samples!) and the glasses are all gorgeous. Her eye exams are also pleasant and thorough. I have gone to the optometrist every year since I was in the third grade. I am so happy to have discovered my go to place, with its convenient location, parking, excellent service and wide selection of frames. Dr. Giannie is knowledgeable, experienced and thorough. She took her time and explained the examination process as she went. I need progressive lenses now. The Dr. and her assistant were very friendly and helped me pick out a frame that flattered my face. I was hesitant to make the appointment, because I thought the place was going to be very expensive. That's not the case at all. Dr. took my insurance, and I finally picked a very cute/professional Nine West frame. read more
