If anyone on NEPA needs eye care, do NOT go to Eye Care Specialists in Kingston! The absolutely worst experience I've EVER had in 50 years of wearing glasses. They are an assembly line. You wait forever to be seen and then you're rushed through the exam with very little Dr/patient interaction other than "better 1, better 2?" I have absolutely NO confidence the prescription I was given is accurate. They don't address any concerns or possible solutions I have with the scarring issues I have on my right eye. I've made another eye exam appointment with another provider which I hope will have a more positive outcome. read more

This is the second appointment I had at Eye Care Specialists and my last. The entire process is brutal. I checked in prior to the visit but still had to do it at a kiosk. Then the waiting starts. Don't get excited when you're called, it only for the puff test and then it's back to the waiting room. Good luck if they dilate your eyes, it's back to the waiting room again. The check out process is the worst, if the person at the desk even acknowledges you, they move so slow to schedule your next appointment. If you need glasses, better bring a snack. It took a technician 10 minutes to tighten someone's frames. The other two technicians talked to each other even though they saw me sitting there. They have so many doctors I don't why it takes so long. It's very frustrating as a patient to have my time wasted sitting and then the doctor barely spent ten minutes with me. read more

I looked up eye doctors and tried to get one that would be able to help me as I have lupus and pre-diabetes. I go in and they tell me after the initial Dr. does a 5 min. exam that he is the wrong doc but I can come back . So he charged me ( as he should, he checked behind my eyes) but then came back to another Dr. and totally charge me incorrectly. No communication between the staff and clients . A month to get fitted for new trial lenses!!!! and now I'm out and desperate! The ONLY saving grace a professional named Lina, that for 20 minutes searched for someone to help me. Continued to check in with me while I waited and then ensured if I needed help going forward I could call and ask for her. KUDO's to you LINA. I've been going to Eye Care Specialists, Kingston for years because my ophthalmologist practices there. He, Dr. Darrel Evans is fine; however, I had an emergency situation over the weekend and could not get treated so I went to Wilkes Barre General Hospital. On Monday, I saw a doctor who said if I needed more medication, to call back. I called back Tuesday and left a message asking for the medication. Never got it. I called back Wednesday and the person who spoke with me said she'd let the doctor know right away so I could get the medication. It is now Thursday and I still have no phone call from the pharmacy stating that the prescription is ready. I called again and left another message. Meanwhile, my eyesight in one eye is extremely blurry. In my opinion, ECS is a big money-making enterprise that can't get pack to patients in a timely manner. I will be going elsewhere. read more

The customer service in the optical department is horrible!! Most of the women that work in this particular department are rude especially the older woman with short greyish blondish hair with glasses. The communication is horrible especially when you keep being told your order will be ready in a week to then 2 weeks to then a month? Which one is it? It's one thing to be short staffed and it is another when you have to work and be mad about it! Place is extremely corporate. Cost of a simple office visit for contact lens doesn't cover the contact fitting, or refraction. There are an additional $75.00 to $142.00 out of pocket on top of the visit they are billing to the insurance company!!? I had a follow up after my initial appointment (after paying $142.00 additional out of pocket), I was literally in the doctor's chair for less than 3 minutes and they tried charging me ANOTHER $150.00, I explained this was a follow up visit, the doctor wanted to verify the contacts were OK, the cashier said "oh I'm sorry I didn't see that". Their corporate policy is to write a prescription that expires after 1 year. They don't care that most insurance only covers every 2 years. So if you need contacts and you're outside that 1 year window you need to schedule another visit and pay out of pocket. They won't even give you a copy of the prescription so you can order contacts online. read more

This started in December, and so far it's been 11 times back and forth, 40 mile round trip, to get glasses that actually help me see better! My old glasses, while not great, far exceed all four pairs that I've received so far! I drove down and met three times with the doctor for an exam; four times picking the glasses/lenses up; once to go back the same day I initially got the lenses because they were wrong; the next day because I was supposes to receive a call from the optician, who never called me; and once to finally ask for a refund. Shelly, the woman at the counter said that I would be receiving a call from the manager to deal with my issue, which took until Monday, March 6th! Mind you, I was there on Friday March 3rd at 11 AM! If this is state of the art eyecare, I'll go back to Walmart! If I could do a 1 star rating at this point, I would. Well, finally got a call from the manager, Kurt at 8:13 on the 6th, who said that they would be happy to refund the money for the lenses, but had to get ahold of another manager to ask about a refund on the exam! Really!? Shouldn't be that hard to get this refunded, or get a call within a few hours! You would think that they would take the problem a bit more seriously, but no! And I'm still waiting for that call. Since I never actually received a set of lenses that were correct, which was the purpose of the exam in the first place, why should I be charged for something that rendered absolutely no benefit to me at all!? They did apologize, and I'm glad they're "sorry," that still doesn't make up for the waste of my time and gas, nor does it resolve the frustration of this whole ordeal! And again, I have to drive to their location to get this refunded! Mind you, I was there on Friday, the tenth time, it should have been done then! Now, I have to drive, waste time and gas, again, to get this refunded! A $185 set of lenses has cost me an additional $100-125 dollars in gas! Great job, awesome. read more

I have never experienced worse customer service in my life. I have been waiting for trial contact lenses for 6 weeks after being told they would be there in a week to 10 days. After 2 weeks I called to see what was happening and after leaving 3 messages someone called me back to say the lenses were there but I needed to schedule an appointment to have a fitting. The next available appointment was in 2 weeks so I scheduled it went to the appointment. After waiting 30 minutes I was told the contacts were never ordered so they weren't there and I would have to come back. Again I was told the lenses would be there in a week to 10 days and I couldn't make an appointment until they came in. The next day I got a text message that I missed my appointment which was just a little icing on the cake. During these weeks I left messages for the contact lenses department no less than 6 times and never received a call back. I also talked to someone in the appointment department who told me she couldn't do anything to help me. I also asked to talk to a manager twice and left messages with no return call. It wasn't until I called my insurance company that someone called me back to say she was going to check with the Dr to see what they can do and if the lenses were ordered. That was early this morning and I didn't not hear from them. I'm now at the point where I have to go to a different Dr and pay out of pocket for a new exam and start all over again. I don't know who's running the show in this place but there are several points of failure. I would leave a 0 star review if I could. read more

The young girl that works in the optical department has terrible customer service. I called left 3 messages over a 2 week span and, she refused to call me back. I stopped in and she was absolutely rude. Then as I stood in line to reschedule my appointment her and the women next to her had a conversation about my questioning my insurance coverages. Great doctors, nurses and administrative staff. I get checked in quickly and the nurses take care of the tests they need to complete. Then they get me to the exam room where the doctor come in short order. They were all very patient with me as I even have a hard time putting eye drops in my eyes. The lady who took care of me when I was looking for glasses was fabulous. She helped me pick them out and gave me a detailed breakdown of the cost. BTW, if you have VSP, they pick up most of the cost. read more

This place is an eye factory. You feel like you are on a conveyor belt going from test to waiting to test to waiting to doctor to waiting. The appointment lasts so long and you feel like you'll never get out of there! Only one employee was nice. The rest had a scowl on their face, didn't introduce themselves, and we had no idea if they were the doctor or a technician. Poor attitude on most of them. Don't go to this place if you want personalized service. You are definitely a number to be herded through like cattle. You stand at the reception desk looking for help and the employees Ignore you. So rude! Get ready to spend half your day at this place because they do not have their act together at all. Extremely inefficient and so much waiting. Very bad experience. read more

My previous eye doctor closed and my records were transferred here. I was told by Eyecare Specialists my records said I had to have an appointment before I could order contacts. I scheduled an appointment but when I got there on that day, ES had no record of my appointment. They told me they could take me anyway. Then 20 minutes later I was told my insurance wouldn't cover it but I still couldn't order contacts. I asked for my records and was told they didn't actually have them as the person with this duty never faxed them from their records department. Days later I was called by ES and told I could actually order contacts if I did so by December 20. I called around December 18 and was told they were mistaken again and I couldn't actually order the contacts. In my experience it's a big place that has no idea what is going on. The eyeglass dept. is terrible. DO NOT bring in your own lenses because they will not even replace a screw if it falls out. I have a $300.00 pair of glasses sitting in my drawer that are useless because I had the lenses put in my own frames. For years I went to an optician in swoyersville that would do minor repairs on my frames for now charge regardless of where they were purchased. This is just good business. I even sent letters to Eye Care and they never even responded. My whole family left there because of this incident. This is just pure greed. read more

I used to come here for prescription glasses but they only take my new insurance for medical appointments. I couldn't afford to keep traveling to Hershey for appointments so I switched glaucoma specialists here. Their office is always clean and the staff is typically polite. Aside for. The optical section, they have 3 other departments, so to speak: cornea, retina, and cataract/glaucoma center. They only have a handful of doctors so the wait is very long. I mean very long. I could spend around 2 hours or so here. But their staff knows what they're doing so I can't complain much. read more

I am telling my story as a warning that I wish that I had read before going to Eye Care Specialists. I went to Eye Care Specialists on 10/29/20 for a routine eye exam fully covered by my insurance. The doctor ended up doing a minor medical procedure also. I received a bill dated 11/25/20 for an unpaid balance. I called the Eye Care Specialists billing dept. several times and was finally told that the balance was paid on 1/6/21. I thought that was the end of the Eye Care Specialists billing saga. Then I received a letter from Eye Care Specialists dated 7/27/21 on 8/3/21. The letter stated that I had 15 days from the date of the letter to pay or it would go to a collection agency. I called Eye Care Specialists billing dept on 8/4, 8/6, and 8/10 asking if they could explain the letter but they had no response. I then called Geisinger Health Plan and spoke to a wonderful rep named Connie and she called them and left a message with all the payment details since no one at Eye Care Specialists answered the phone. Finally once Geisinger Health Plan was involved; Eye Care Specialists acknowledged that the bill was paid in full with the last payment being made on 11/24/20--8 months earlier than the date on the letter stating collections would get involved. Anyone can make a mistake but not to make an effort to look at it until an excellent Geisinger rep got involved is terrible customer service. I almost paid the full amount to avoid dealing with a collection agency since time was running out given the short amount of time that Eye Care Specialists gave to resolve the issue, even though Eye Care Specialists had signed a contract with Geisinger for a much lower amount that was paid in full during November 2020. BTW Eye Care Specialists' rating with the Better Business Bureau is an "F" due to unanswered billing complaints. My issue is not with the medical care but with the person responsible for Geisinger insurance claims. Hopefully as the letter states this will be the last contact that I have with this company but I am keeping careful documentation since I was already told on 1/6/21 that the balance was zero. Certainly this is the last time I will go to them. read more

The doctors' I have seen are wonderful. The amount of time waiting to see the doctor is disturbing. I spend an hour waiting in the exam room before he came in and took 30 seconds to check my eyes. Then he ignored me and spoke with his assistant for a few minutes. I was very disappointed in his lack of curtisy. read more

They have me coming back constantly. I've come to realize that it's for them to make more money, not because I need an examination that frequently. They're expensive. A few minutes to check for glaucoma, dilate my pupils, and have an optometrist look in my eyes with a magnifying glass of some sort is $135. Compare that to my family doctor: he spends 15-20 minutes with me, listens to my heart, checks my BP, tells me what my blood work results mean, addresses concerns I bring up, asks different questions/does different things each appointment (i.e. standard procedure to catch other things before they become big problems), keeps me on schedule with maintenance medication, etc., and his charge is only $115. Similar to realizing that frequent eye care appointments are not necessary, I've come to realize the cost-to-benefit ratio provided by Eye Care Specialists is low. Your appointment time is never honored (as an earlier review said: "Be prepared to wait, and then wait some more"). The "best" has been half-an-hour after the scheduled time; the "worst" one hour after the scheduled time. And most recently (and what prompted this review - "the straw that broke the camel's back") is an attempt to double-bill me. That's insurance fraud, and I've informed Eye Care Specialists that if they continue to bill me I'll be following up. I've had enough. I've canceled my next appointment, and will go elsewhere for eye care in the future. I'm sure I can find someone better. read more

My husband had the scheduled appointment for cataract follow up, but I developed a problem so he was kind enough to fit us both in. He is an excellent Dr, very thorough and professional. We have been here multiple times and were previously very pleased with this office but after this time I don't plan to return. When we previously ordered here for my son they had a large selection of frames to try on and the frames &/or lenses were ready in 2 weeks (which is standard, I've needed glasses most of my life as well). So this time we go in to try on the next size up for my son to possibly order with new lenses and they barely had anything in stock, there was nothing anywhere near his size to try on. So we had to wait 2 weeks for them to order frames just to try on, they left me a voice mail on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving just saying they were in and only that....how about mentioning the office would be closed the rest of the week so that I didn't have to drive down there Friday AM to find them closed & have to drive back the same way for work that afternoon just to repeat the same 2 trips Monday?! So we go back Monday and had to stand there 40 minutes with my toddler and a crowd of others that the 3 techs (which turned into 2 when 1 just got up and left halfway through my wait) were in absolutely no hurry to assist anyone. When it was our turn the frames fit but came in the wrong color which they said was no problem that they would reorder the right color frames and order the lenses too since we knew they fit now. 2 1/2 weeks go by & I call to check on them and am told "not ready yet", the next week his father calls & was told "not ready yet". At the end of that week his father checks in person & was told it was taking so long b/c 1) I ordered wrong: NO I DIDN'T 2) he has a high prescription: YES BUT ALL HIS OTHER HIGH PRESCRIPTION LENSES STILL ONLY TOOK 2 WEEKS 3) due to Xmas: NOT WHEN I ORDERED IN NOVEMBER. So they finally call to let us know they are ready the day after Xmas & I went the next day to get them. The tech starts with "so did they tell you what was going on?". Apparently they were repeatedly getting the wrong color frames in and didn't bother to actually tell us what was going on and giving BS excuses & blaming me & only called when they thought they had the right thing which was close but still wrong. Luckily in case of this I had the stroke of genius to check Amazon & they did have the size & color I wanted. I told the tech I am done waiting on them & that I wanted the lenses & a refund for the frames, that I would order them myself. He then sent me to his supervisor whose gave me the lenses & proceeded to tell me that they don't keep cash in the building for refunds(B.S. it wasn't even $100 they definitely could have come up with that) and that I would have to wait for their accountant to cut me a check....at this point I was so ridiculously furious I could barely ask how long & can you mail it, was told about a week and yes. I then just had to get the hell outta there cause my next move was probably going to be to leap across the desk & choke the living daylights out of that woman. I got the exact size & color of frame in 3 days off Amazon & had to wait 2 weeks for my refund. Absolutely ridiculous. read more

the doctors at eye care specialist especially mine DR Emfield are great but the optometry depth has a lot to be desired. I have been a pt. of eye care specialists for over 35 years. Today I visited them for the 3rd time complaining about my glasses which I paid 589 dollars for but unable to wear due to fact that I am constantly cleaning them due to frequently smudging.i met with one of the male employees in the optometry depth and explained the problem to him ,from then on it was all downhill. I suggested it may be the Antiglare coating on the lenses or maybe the glasses were measured wrong. Well he proceeded to tell me it was most likely due to my long lashes and should have got metal frames instead of plastic . Then he proceeded to ask me what kind of coating was on the lenses (like I should know that) I told him nobody ever tells the pt what kind of coating is being put on their lenses Then he proceeded to tell me I never had the Antiglare coating so I don't know what it is like. I proceed ed to tell him all my glasses had it but he doubted me because it wasn't in the computer and asked me to bring my old glasses in to prove it Needless to say the visit was not productive and I would not recommend eye care specialist optometry department for obtaining glasses Go there for your eye exam but not your glasses Say yourself some stress read more

Just had an eye exam late last evening and needed to order new lenses. The Optical department was closed to the public but were available to anyone who was seeing a doctor. Kristi quickly jumped up and asked if she could help me. She took all the time we needed to take care of all my questions and concerns without even realizing how late it was getting. She helped me understand what I needed and even took time to adjust my current frames as she noticed they were loose on my face. I have always enjoyed going to Eye Care Specialists in Kingston and would recommend Dr. Wasilewski and Kristi in the Optical Dept to all my family and friends. read more

Went to them for a second opinion, saw one dr who said that he couldnt help me, so made an appt for a specialist, had to go back to get more testing before i saw the specialist. (2 appts) Saw the specialist, got there for a 2 pm appt, didnt get out of the place until 4 pm. Saw him said i need more testing, went into another room, told the dr there, i had testing already can you check, lo and behold, there they were smh. Waited again, saw him, said that he couldnt do anything for me, go back to the other dr that i dont want to, or go to Geisinger, or WIlls Eye something, or get glasses. I said i want to see so i guess i will get glasses, made an appt, the girl said that i will need 45 dollars for the appt, i said NO Medicare pays for glasses after cataract surgery, the other doctor told me after my surgery. So, now I have to go later and fight with them about the money smh (oh the dr was very arrogant and talking down to me like i was a child, did not appreciate that at all) I also have an appt with geisinger in 2 wks read more
