When I had to go there with my 70 year old mother, the employees did not make me feel welcome. The appointment was for my mother when the appointment was complete they attempted to charge my mother over $300 for test and glasses that they told her to get. Avoid these folks. I was a customer of Eyecare Specialists in Kingston for years. Never had any issues. Decided to give Engle a try. At first I was impressed with the service and how up to date their equipment is. Their Optometrist was also a pleasure to deal with as well. Then came the billing issues. First off, even with my insurance they were more expensive than previous providers. On top of that I just had billing issue after billing issue. I also felt pressured into buying frames from them. I'm finally just giving up on them and just going back to Eyecare Specialists. **UPDATE since reply isn't an option (at least on mobile) Tom, I appreciate the prompt response to my review. I am unaware of any Certified letter that you sent to my address but I'll be sure to keep a lookout. The $86 balance on my account was for something I was billed for twice. I tried to explain that to your wife actually. I was more than willing to resolve the issue there and then when I spoke to her on the phone. I would also like to note that generally account balances are considered PHI and discussing a patients balance in an open forum like this may be a violation of HIPAA guidelines. What an awful place! Like some other reviewers have said, you walk in and are greeted by someone who knows your name. Creepy. Then you are treated like a human, some might say even like a friend. I guess you should go here if you like that kind of thing. I'd much rather go to Eye Care Specialists and be treated like a number. (And long time customers of Eye Care Specialists appreciate being forgotten like a number too - 2 hours of waiting to be called back is the best). I've never been forgotten or waited longer than 15 minutes with Engle. They always call me back right when I'm getting to the good part of my podcast episode. The nerve! Then, when it comes time to pick glasses, all of their "expertly trained staff" gather around to offer encouraging words and share their thoughts. I felt like saying "who asked you for a compliment?! Huh? Do I look like I need compliments?!" None of this is as egregious as that one time last when I scratched my cornea while on a business trip. It was hell. I couldn't see. My eye hurt whenever I blinked. It hurt more when I didn't blink. The optometrist at Engle had the nerve to give me her cell phone number and told me to call her if it got any worse. Like, what's her angle?! Must be a scam! I say egregious because every few days she texted me to check in. Ugh. I've had crazy ex-girlfriends who text me less often, ok. Thank God her prescription helped and I got better within a week so I didn't have to be stalked like that any more. So as we've established... # Don't come here if you want to be treated like a Number. Don't come here if you want it to be difficult to get a hold of your eye doctor when you need emergency care. Don't come here if you want the same dusty frames everyone else is wearing. Obviously my review above is sarcastic. Totally true. And written as a parody of the crazy reviews who say unkind (and likely untrue) things about this gem of an operation in NEPA. I'm proud to call Tom, Renee and the whole team at Engle friends. I met them as a patient and over the years got to know them as they got to know me. That's the cool thing about their culture. Everyone there really does care! They're encouraged to share personal tidbits just like they ask about me and my family. Even though I made light of it above, I was terrified when I scratched my cornea. The fact that Doc gave me her number and walked me through what we'd do if things got worse put me at ease. I didn't have to worry because I know I had a person to call and a plan if it got worse. She even has me text her pictures of my eye while I was traveling so she could keep an eye on it as it healed. After knowing what it feels like to be treated this way, I'll never go back to an anonymous-optometry-factory again. read more

Ordered a trial pair of contacts and they would not give them to me unless I put a deposit down. I have never had this issue at any other eye place. They are overpriced and very unprofessional. I left without my trial pair because, they essentially hold you hostage unless you give them money or order overpriced Eyewear and contacts. They treat people like dirt. They constantly try to sell and pressure you relentlessly. If you want to be harassed this is the place for you! Also takes them 2-3hrs during a regular appointment. I took a chance and went to Engle Eyewear to ask if they could adjust them. The staff was fabulous and helped me. Now my glasses do not fall off and I'm so grateful for their help. She got me a pair I loved and walked me through all my options for my lenses. Came back to pick them up and had a great fitting. Some places just give you your glasses and that's it, but they made sure that they fit me perfect and I didn't have an other questions. I have been going to Engle Eyewear for a few years now. I found them originally because my glasses had been stolen and I needed a pair rather quickly. Renee stepped right in and says come in. She helped me pick out a new pair and I had then within 1 week. Fast forward to the last 2 years. I have had some eye issues over the years and they stepped right in to get me seen by their optometrist, (Dr. Helen is amazing by the way) and then referred me to the best doctors who could help me. Today, I picked up my newest pair of glasses. Renee is phenomenal at picking the styles that will work best for you. I was in desperate need of better glasses as the ones I had were new but not durable, especially with a baby. I researched glasses online after my spouse told me about titanium glasses which are practically indestructible. Engle Eyewear carries the brand/frames that I was looking for. The manager/owner answered my phone call when I inquired about them in which she told me that the frames I was looking at were more of a male style. She asked me to come down to the boutique, on a specific day, as the representative for the frames company was coming in to show her more styles. I agreed and couldn't be happier with what she found for me. Her and another girl took the time to go over all the styles, shapes and colors that there were for the brand I was looking for. The owners and staff were extremely knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. I couldn't ask for a better experience. They were even amazing with my baby as well and playing with him. They make sure everything about the glasses and lenses are perfect to the point where they reordered the lenses due to an imperfection on one of them. When I went to pick them up I received excellent service in making sure that they fit correctly to my face. The girl that fit the glasses called me a few days later to make sure that I was still happy with them which I very much am. These glasses are amazing and I am in love with them!! He must not have even been in before or he is working for the competition, not that they have any. My wife and I drive 45 minutes from Bloomsburg because the service is great and so are the dogs. Anyone who goes to the Engle's known that these dogs are basically treated like princesses and have only the best. And they are Maltese dogs, which are hypoallergenic. So, first off I found the staff very friendly upon my visit AND helpful. However, after leaving with a bill of $500 for glasses I went home to browse frames from the same designer online. I found them for $180 instead of $250 (original tag was $500, they gave me 1/2 off). I called to double check with Engle the next day and was told that the ones online on all the sites were most likely fakes. Ok, that's fine. But I was also charged 599$ for lenses with another 50% off if I didn't use my insurance. This is ridiculously expensive. I even double checked on competitors prices for top-of-the-line crizol lenses and was quoted way less. I was told that I should just cancel because I apparently didn't trust them. Huh? Well, I just don't want to spend way more on a product then I need to. Thanks anyway! I highly suggest this company if you don't mind spending a lot of money. They do have great options. Edit: the owner called me and asked me to reconsider this review. I have and I'm increasing the stars to 3. While I do believe the prices are high, the staff and options are great. MY personal experience: chose Engle Eyewear based on advertisements; "See & Be Seen", claim to fame "carry only the best Imported Designer frames. Initially dealing w/Tom, Renee & staff was a very pleasant experience, UNTIL I picked up 2 pr of eyeglasses. 1st mistake: I was charged $1,356 & had to "pay-in-full, in advance" @ my initial visit. Chose 3 frame possibilities. Didn't even have appt scheduled for exam. Was given a copy of signed "cash register" receipt tape; showing date, amt paid & merchant address (no phn#?) Absolutely no details itemizing what I was purchasing; more info printed on a McDonalds receipt. 2nd mistake: Didn't question it @ the time, assumed I would be given an itemized invoice/statement upon pickup showing details re: what items I purchased, individual charges for exam, frames, lenses, coatings, etc. Requested invoice upon picking up 1st pr of glasses (both were not ready at same time). Too busy that day, couldn't just print copy of my order? Picked up 2nd pr days later. Again requested invoice. Asked why I needed it, no insurance involved, paid cash (in advance!) Renee said they "have all info. in their system if needed in the future, not necessary for me to have copy." This frame was crooked, did not sit straight & had to be "realigned". Bottom line: To this date Engle Eyewear has refused to provide anything in writing re: sale. BECAUSE both frames are stamped "Made in China" & have no Designer name, logo, or any type of Authentication. BEWARE of what you will be getting BEFORE paying for & accepting your "Imported" Original Designer eyeglass frames! read more

I have been going here for over 10 years and have not found a better location for glasses in the area. The selection is better here than most high end stores in major cities. The store isn't huge, but they don't bother stocking glasses unless they are worth trying on. Renee always has great honest advice and won't steer you the wrong way. Highly recommended. read more

I went to Engle eyewear about a year ago. They had good reviews so I was excited to finally get a new pair of glasses. I am shocked to see that they have such good reviews after my experience. I just went to a different eyewear company today and had a more pleasant experience. I found it interesting that after looking at another recent review, I had a similar experience. I was overcharged for glasses and contacts and after walking out with a $900 bill, I was overwhelmed. I called and asked to speak with a manager because I wanted to have the bill explained to see why it was so high. The owner was very rude and ended up telling me that I should just go somewhere else as well. I was very nice and explained that I just needed a breakdown of what I paid for and thought that the staff was great but I just wanted to know why the price was so high. Instead of explaining everything to me and breaking it down to me and sending me a receipt with everything itemized, I was told that I should just go somewhere else. I have never received such poor customer service in my life. This I company obviously only cares about money and not about the people. I would not suggest going here. read more

I've never been a fan of having to wear glasses so I never really gave them much thought when when I needed a new pair. At my eye doctor's office, I looked at what they had and chose the least objectionable pair. My daughter, on the other hand, is an eyeglass enthusiast and has a large collection; so large that I started just shopping in her display case when I needed new frames. One pair of hand me down Bvlgari's convinced me to finally go along with her to Engle Eyewear. I left with an amazing pair of Fendi's on that visit and some lovely Dior's on the next. Tom and Renee were so knowledgeable and helpful in helping choose exactly the right glasses for me. They talked to me about the things I didn't like about wearing glasses like having to switch pairs in the sun and glare when driving at night. They really listened and crafted lenses that addressed all my issues.
