Update: This office was supposed to order me a trial contact. Two weeks went by and still no call. I called to see where it was and spoke to Kanica who said it was not there. I called back the next day spoke to some one else, they went to the back to check and it was there! They forgot to tell me that it was there! Then Kanica told me to come in and get it to take take home and wear it. Dr. Murphy had originally told me to test the contact in the office. I then requested a call back from Dr Murphy. Kanica who I had spoken to was very rude and unprofessional!! Never got a call back from Dr Murphy! I had no other choice but to call VSP insurance and make a complaint. VSP was great and paid for me to go somewhere else for a new eye exam! The Dr. At this place is great but the staff is horrible! read more

Hmm, where to start. At my last visit, it wasn't written on my contacts prescription that I needed Toric lenses. I had to ask the staff to check with the doctor to make sure the prescription was correct. I've had toric lenses for my left eye for years and they have that on file, too. They ended up fixing it. They quoted me wrong on the contact lens order, so I had to ask them to reverify. I was right and they were wrong. I also had to get new lenses for my glasses. Since I was told it would take two weeks go get my glasses back, they ordered trial contacts for me in the brand they suggested (they ran out). They said it would take 3 days to arrive. When I went for my contacts follow up, I got sent home with another brand of contact lenses to hold me off until they got the trials in. I called a few days later to ask them if the trials came in, because the other brand lenses were giving me migraines and hurting my eyes. All I was told was no and that I needed to call other Eye Designs locations to see if they had trials for me to use. Oh great, they don't have trials for a brand they were prescribing me so I have to do the leg work to locate them. I followed up on the status of my glasses to see if they arrived a couple of times. I was told they put a "rush on it." Well, fast forward 2.5 weeks later when I'm expecting my glasses to come in. I call them to follow up again and I get a phone call the following day to tell me the lab broke my frames. Apparently, my frames were out of warranty, so I have to purchase new frames. Almost three weeks and glasses-less..and hundreds of dollars spent on them and their "service." I'm not sure I want to return here. If I'm being told my frames broke the week I was supposed to get my glasses, it leaves me to believe they never bothered checking with the lab when they said they did. I wonder how much longer til i finally get my glasses...and how much more I have to pay. Awful. read more

So I came here off the bat as my eyes were getting worse and I kept putting it off and I was near so decided to jump in and get it taken care of. Initially I thought Dr Murphy was awesome as he was very knowledgeable but focused in on my dry eye complaint when filing out the paperwork. Granted, when wearing contacts my eyes are so irritated. He the tells me my eye glands are glogged and I have plaque on my lids. I agree to do the $350 procedure to get them unclogged as I felt I had finally found the reason all these years why my eyes were dry while wearing contacts but while being there I could hear them tell the same to other people. Then when I came for the procedure, again telling the people the same thing. After the procedure they get me a prescription which turns out is for after when you get you laser eye done which btw is $190!!! Deffo Not needed. So my question is... are they just up-selling me? I'm not sure.. how many people have dry eyes?! so far the customer service has been nice but the wait times are horrible.. I'm typing this as I have been waiting for 40 mins and I'm going to walk out. - walked out- in the parking lot I talked to a customer and turns out Dr Murphy has been selling her the dry eye wipes cliradex. I talked to a friend who goes to him and asked her too if he talks to him about dry eyes and she says all the time.. so beware.. he makes his money on stuff that insurance does not cover like the dry eye procedure and the at "home care" wipes. It should be called the dry eye center and not eye designs.. oh and btw the sell his dry eye story he will show you a video of you blinking and tell you that you are a partial blinker and she you pictures of dead glands in your eye.. to everyone! read more

I would recommend that anybody considering going here, considers going elsewhere. This place has a lot to work on. I will NEVER go back. The customer service is terrible. I went over a year ago in September of 2015. The experience then was also terrible. First, they couldn't get my insurance correctly. They were about to overcharge me because the person in charge of the insurance didn't do their job correctly. This added an hour onto my apt. They said about two weeks to get my glasses, which was kind of funny to me because what if someone had broken glasses and badly needed their glasses asap? They offered no contact lenses for the wait. I waited. Finally two weeks later I make the call because they never bothered to call me letting me know they arrived. Apparently the factory that made them did not get the prescription right, so they sent them back and I had to wait another week. 3 weeks to wait for a pair of glasses, hm ok. I call back a week later, they said they'd check and call me back. My glasses had arrived again, with no call from the team to let me know I could come pick them up. I was glad to be done when I picked up my glasses. Then, my screw became more and more loose. I bought an at home kit. The screw would tighten and then brake at least once a week. Still bearable. I decided to take it in just to see if I had a warranty or if they could fix it easily. Lorraine took it and when she brought it back it didn't even screw in at all? She complained that it was weathered down and unfixable. She offered no suggestions. Gave it back completely broken. And said she'd call if she could find the warranty. My warranty is up and I am so glad to be rid of this place forever. For your own sake.. don't come here read more

Terrible. I can understand they are super busy with all the foot traffic their location gets, but what I can't understand is the lying. I purchased a pair of sunglasses as well and eyeglasses from this place, and they never gave me the original lenses from my sunglasses as I had requested. I am far-sighted, so it doesn't really make sense for me to have my prescription in all the time with sunglasses unless I am reading a book outside or something. They never gave me my lenses even though I requested them multiple times, and so I am stuck with these sunglasses I spent $100+ on that I never wear. I've tried calling back about this issue and here is how it goes: 1. They say they will "look into it" 2. I never hear from them again Wish I never went here and supported this place. read more

I have been coming to Eye Designs since 2008. I work at the mall so I decided I would check out Eye Designs since they accept my insurance. It was easy to get an appointment for the time that was most convenient for me. I was really stoked up to this point. Both times I have had my eyes examined I have had to wait 15-20 minutes to be seen. The first time I ordered frames and lenses I felt very rushed. I ended up ordering a pair of Oakley frames that I ended up hating. My fault for choosing them, but I felt like if I didn't hurry up and pick they were going to throw me out. I also ordered the contact lenses that my doctor recommended at this time. I have an astigmatism in my left eye and it is hard to get comfortable fitting contact lenses. The contacts that were sold to me rub the inner part of my eye. So badly that any time i wear my contacts I have a red line on my eye from the irritation. My second experience was not much better. I got a post card in the mail from eye designs saying that my yearly visit was coming up. I figured I would give them another try mostly because I am super busy and the location and convenience win over maybe just some bad choices on my part. I was wrong. Again I had to wait 20 minutes after my appointment time to be seen. I told my doctor that my contacts were bothering me in my eye and about the irritation that I have never experienced before. He suggested that I have allergies and to use allergy drops in my eyes. Tried it, still have major irritation in my eyes from my contacts. I am not eligible for new frames this year so they said I could get new lenses in an older pair of frames. Sounded awesome, I have a pair of Fendi frames that I love. I came back with my old frames to get the new lenses put in them and they tried to overcharge me for the lenses. We got that all straightened out. The the waiting game started. They said it wouldn't take longer than a week for the new lenses in my old frames. I waited 1 1/2 weeks and then decided I would call to get a status update. I was told that they were still at the lab but would be ready later that day. Cool. 3 days pass, I call again. They've come in, they need to be quality checked, we will call you tomorrow to let you know when you can pick them up. I am going on vacation in 2 days and I need them asap. OK, we will have them ready for you in 1/2 an hour. Wait, really? 2 stars are for convenience and the friendliness of the staff Having to consistently wait for appointment times -1 star. Being overcharged for lenses -1 star. Misinformation about when my glasses would be ready for pickup -1 star. Unfortunately I think I am going to have to find somewhere else to get my glasses. I've never had the urge to write a review until now. I've been getting my eyes checked for contact lens prescriptions for over a decade through several optometry clinics in Sacramento; 4 clinics to be exact. Eye Designs was my 5th and it was my first time walking out of a clinic WITHOUT a final prescription. My initial check up was scheduled on 4/2/15. I waited for over an hour. The incompetent receptionist didn't have me fill out the new patient paper work until I hit the 1 hour wait time. I never knew if that was the reason for the long wait or the overbooking of patients they had that day. After finally getting called in from their cramped waiting area, I met the robotic/monotonous Dr. Murphy who was talking to me as if he was reading an invisible teleprompter. I've noticed that seasoned/older doctors lack the passion that they once had. I've seen it in many other doctors, not just him. After my check-up, which lasted a fraction of my wait time, Dr. Murphy informed me that I had to come back in a week for a follow-up with a trial pair for the prescription he had written for me. Eye Designs didn't have my lenses in stock, so they had to order it, I had to come back and get them, then schedule my follow-up. On 4/17/15, I met the young/personable Dr. Corpus, who suggested I try a different brand since I stated that my previous lenses were uncomfortable. Once again, Eye Designs didn't have the lenses in stock so I had to do everything all over again. On 5/9/15, I met a 3rd doctor. I believe her name was Dr. Tran. She was likable as well, but at this point I didn't care who the doctor was. I just wanted my final prescription to be given to me. She finally gave me my final prescription. Unfortunately, I regret purchasing my lenses from the middle-aged sales associate with long dark hair. She may have been the supervisor of all the sales associates. She was unapproachable and attempted to be intimidating. After 6 visits in over a month, just for a contact lens prescription, and my multiple poor meetings with most of its staff and doctors, Eye Designs wore my patience very thin. 1 out of 5. read more

A friend of mine who has been seeing Dr. Murphy referred me here, so I figured I'd give it a try. I called and specifically asked for an apt with Dr. Murphy. I was surprised that I was able to get an apt within just a few days of calling. STRIKE #1) while waiting to see the doctor I had to use the restroom. The restroom in the office has a private code, which they don't give out, instead I was escorted to the bathroom like a two year old so that the staff could enter the private code and let me in...so much for feeling welcomed and comfortable. STRIKE #2) to my surprise my apt was not with Dr. Murphy but with another doctor (explains why I was able to get an apt so quickly). I've been wearing glasses & having eye exams for 20 plus years and this by far was the quickest exam ever (very in & out), not personable at all and in my opinion I don't think it was a thorough exam. The only reason I ventured into a new eye doctor is because after several years of seeing the same doctor he sold his practice and retired (bummer). STRIKE #3) we all know eye places make their mega money on the product they sell. The only good thing about this visit is that I actually found a cute pair of glasses ($240 frames) that I really liked. As a selling point the "closer" guy kept trying to tell me that I had anti-glare on my current glasses and was trying to push me to get anti-glare on my new glasses. I know 100% that I do not have anti-glare on my current glasses because I never ever do extra add-ons that my insurance doesn't cover, but he tried his best to convince me otherwise so that I'd pay the extra $89. His pushiness was made me feel so uncomfortable that I left the office without purchasing anything. Think I'll take my prescription and go to Costco. read more

The last two times my son and I went in there to pick up our glasses, we were passed up by people who came in after us. So sad, I have always enjoyed going there. I totally agree with previous reviews on here this place is HORRIBLE!!! A house filled with a LOAD OF USELESS staff that can careless about their patients! This place is way tooooooooo small with very little movement space to look at glasses/sunglasses and very little sitting area. At times people had to sit in areas where they usually do consultations with patients. Staff is VERY rude and UNHELPFUL. I had a difficult time picking out glasses and the staff was getting very inpatient and force me on picking out glasses that I didn't like. So when they called me the following week to let me know my glasses were ready for pick up. I took them home and started to wear them around the house and was very upset on how uncomfortable they were so the very next morning I called them and they were willing to let me exchange them so I did and when back in there. This time I had a different associate and almost the same experience but this time worst. I really like one pair of glasses and the associate like a different one. Well she wasn't willing to sell me the ones I like due to the fact she didn't like them but I fought with her and she finally let me have my way (which I should NEVER have to argue with you since I'm a paying customer/patient), and made notes in my file on how she didn't feel comfortable with me buying them and had my sign in which I did sign. So it took about another week to get my new glasses and when I went to go pick them up I tired them on and love it but then later on in the day I notice that the glasses I had where the ones on display with the design and metal logo was about to fall off (You would think since your paying so much for glasses that you would get brand new ones fresh out the box). So I had to drive back down to their off and had to fight another battle with them which eventually I won. But till this day my glasses are uncomfortable due to the fact they aren't willing to make any adjustment to them. So I 'm basically fed up with and refuse to go back because everytime I do its always a battle with them. read more

Kineka should NOT be answering phones PERIOD! Overall I have had what I would like to say is a pleasant experience with this specific location. But as they say one bad apple spoils the bunch. Called in Saturday and spoke with this young lady: In short roughly 2 weeks ago I was told I would be receiving a call back regarding some defective contacts I ordered and some trials were to be ordered to replace them. After more than 2 weeks of hearing nothing I called in on 2/13 explaining this situation with Kineka. Short version she apologized for nobody returning my first call and said it was pretty busy and she would get the info and give me a call back before the day was over. NO problem! Que today. I just got off the phone a happened to get her and am LIVID to say the least! I am tempted to go down and speak with Rose her supervisor in person. Short version I (again) explained the situation and said yes you were supposed to call me back Saturday and (again) I am NOT getting the followup calls. Her response I remember you. Umm well WTF didn't you call me back?! I digress. I said okay (bit my tongue) and said I needed to get this problem resolved. Her response was she'll have an optometrist call me back as they were the people to order the contacts. SERIOUSLY?! Her response she chuckled I know. And THAT point I was PISSED! Ummm excuse me!?That is SO not Customer Service! HOW DARE YOU! So it's "FUNNY" you remembered me, didn't call then you are now again passing the buck! I read that young lady the riot act VERY CALMLY and explained her customer service was sub par to say the least! Then I asked who her supervisor was as I was going to be reporting this. My supervisor is on lunch. That is NOT what was asked!? So ROSE will be receiving a call and as politely as I could I explained to Miss Kimeka, she would not be employed "answering phones as the receptionist" much longer if she didn't learn to conduct herself more professionally! Just RUDE! and poor service! For sure wont be coming back here on my next exam if this doesn't get resolved in a timely fashion. read more

My son and i went to Eye Designs in hopes to purchase a pair of glasses for my son since his current pair broke at the arm piece. We werent able to find something that he liked but Maria was able to fix his glasses free of charge. Mind you, we had went to Stanton prior to going to Eye designs and they said there was no way to fix them, we needed a new pair. We were thrilled to meet Maria who was only there to help us, even though we didnt buy anything. Maria is the perfect example of GREAT customer service. She made our day! Eye Designs has lost our business for good, after several years of declining service. The only good thing about this place is that the doctors that I've seen there seem competent. Everything else is pretty horrid. First, it's in the mall, with difficult access. Second, it's crowded and the wait times are way too long. I was there for two hours waiting to see the doctor and then when I finally got my new prescription, the "optician" who was more like a salesperson tried to get me to spend another hour upselling me on various things and "explaining" things I didn't care about. Just get my frames fitted and let me get back to work. THEN, after the three week wait for my new glasses, they finally came and I knew right away something was wrong. I went back to see if they could help me and they just kind of blew it off by saying I needed to get used to the new lenses. Everything was a blur. After a week, I went back to work and realized that I COULD SEE IF I TAPED THE GLASSES TO MY FOREHEAD ABOUT 4 MM UP FROM WHERE THEY SAT ON MY NOSE. I went back to eye designs, explained that, and was re-fitted. Yup, they were 4 mm off, so the order had to be redone. Did they offer to expedite the order for me, since this was their fault? No. Did they apologize? No. It took me SIX WEEKS to finally get glasses. Then when I went to pick them up, they made me wait for another hour and eventually started calling people up who had come in after I did. I got up, they sat me in a chair for another five or ten minutes and FINALLY gave me my glasses. The same "optician" was helping me and I could not get away from her creepiness fast enough. They seemed to fit okay, but now that I've been wearing them a few weeks they are a bit loose. I will NOT go back there and sit for another hour or two to wait to have them tightened again. I agree wholeheartedly with the person who calls this a skeezy, sneaky, sketchy place. Don't waste your time. NEVER AGAIN. Sorry, Eye Designs. You have lost me forever. read more

I have been here three times and always show up 15 minutes early and every time I have been seen way past my appointment time. The last time I was there I was seen 40 minutes after my appointment time. The secretary with purple hair has the worst attitude and not professional in any way. Every time I asked her a question such as when I would be seen she just looked around and acted super confused. This is the most unorganized businesses I have ever been in. I am so disappointed I am going out of my way to order glasses and contacts at a different store. I absolutely do not recommend this business, there are so many other great ones out there! read more

I was actually pretty happy with my exam with Dr. Corpus. He took plenty of time to explain things to me & to listen to my answers to questions. Maria, the optician, was also very helpful in picking out new frames & explaining the new progressive lenses I was going to be using. She wrote me a quote for the glasses & lenses that was supposed to be good for 30 days. She even wrote that on the quote. What I wasn't happy with was when I returned to order the glasses, within the 30 day guaranteed period, they wouldn't honor the original quote. Apparently the cost of the lenses had gone up & when I asked them to honor their original quote I was told "sorry, there isn't anything we can do", but they did offer to sell me a cheaper pair of lenses. These people are so rude. I went in with my kids to get glasses, we were in there for 20 minutes and no one ever came over to help us. No body even said hello. Finally I went to the desk to ask for help & they asked me what I wanted. At that point I had a bad taste in my mouth. I told her we all needed glasses. They just acted like they didn't to help us. Their selection was decent but the staff is rude. You can't run a business loke that. Also when I asked if they can have my rx faxed over they didn't want to do it. My insurance covers 2 pairs of glasses for 6 people . So this office lost out on thousands of dollars worth of business because they were rude & lazy. Dr. John Corpus is really friendly and down-to-earth. He really listens to your concerns and takes the time to answer any & all questions. It's really refreshing to find an optometrist who enjoys what he does. Great selection of high-end frames. The only downside is the mall parking- keep this in mind when setting appointments. Avoid holiday shopping days or it will take forever to find a parking spot. read more

Not impressed. I ordered glasses from Eye Designs Optometry in Sacramento on November 5th. I waited a month and heard nothing from them. I called them and they said that my glasses had just come in and they were going through QC and that I could come in and pick them up. When I picked them up, I asked the gal why the delay and I got a completely different answer. I could see paper reading up close, but when I got home and tried to read my computer screen, it was all blurry. I called them and they said if I wanted a pair to read computer screens with I should have ordered transitions lenses. HELLO doesn't everybody look at computer screens nowadays? Why would anybody want a pair of glasses that would not allow me to see my computer? To the ordinary, reasonable, prudent person, that would be implied. I brought my glasses in and the guy who waited on me was rude, incompetent, and unprofessional. I told him my problem and that I had to miss an important meeting to straighten this out. he threw his hands in the air as if to say, "so what?" I told the other clerk I wanted my money back, and she pointed to the fine print on a piece of paper that I never received that their policy allowed for only a 50% refund. I threatened to call my lawyer. Then and only then did they agree to refund my money in full. I can't see how a company made up of so many insolent people has remained in business for so long. Another strategy I have noticed is that they have their friends and family flood these pages with stellar reviews. They must think they are being clever, but all it takes is one or two dissatisfied customers to make a bad impression. To even give the obligatory single star is generous. read more

This is more a review for the technician Sonny. I originally ordered my glasses at the Roseville location because no optometrist appointment was available at the Arden location. I received great service at the Roseville location and nothing else to say on that, but when I got the glasses NOBODY could adjust them there for me. I had them adjusted 3 times at Roseville and all led to glasses just sliding off my face by the time I got home or so tight I had continuous headaches. Finally I was just shopping around Arden and decided that I was going to give this location a try since I really couldn't stand my glasses anymore. Within a few minutes my glasses were staying on my face without too much pressure behind my ears. Sonny is seriously a life saver. I would never trust anyone else with my glasses adjustments anymore. read more

I LOVE Dr. Corpus! I live in Orange County and fly up every year just to see him. My original DR had fitted me for lenses, but the lenses were causing me really bad headache. Dr. Corpus took the time, and effort to figure out what was causing my headaches. Turns out I had small asian eyes that needed special contact lenses. Who knew?!? I had 3 different sales associate's. When the Dr would call me back they would jump to the next customer. One Sonny let me know that they did not have my size of glasses in stock so he asked me to go over to another store in the mall and try them on. Thinking I would be assisted as soon as I came back in . I left and tried them on. As I came back in to let him know I decided to order them. I absolutely love this place! I'm 46 years old and Dr. Murphy performed the most thorough examination I have ever had. He talked to me the whole time explaining everything he was doing and why. Once my exam was done I had the pleasure of getting Paul Gipson to help me with my frames and lenses. Paul continued explaining everything in detail and educated me on many things.
