I have my medical insurance through the VA. Because the system for eye care is so backed up I chose an appointment with Stephen Ching OD for my eye exam. Dr. Ching was amazing. Not only did I receive the best eye exam I have ever had, he remembered me from my visit to him a couple of years ago! I obviously don't know what eye care insurance you might have but I highly recommend Dr. Ching for your optometry needs. I would be remiss not to mention how great his office staff is! It's been two months at least since I lost my prescription glasses. I've been using store bought reading glasses. I found Dr Chin through our insurance provider and he is less than a 5 minute drive from home. I did a complete check up except for the dilation because I had errands to run. Dr chin was very friendly very professional and personable. After the exam he turned me over to Vlad who helps pick out frames and finished up with payments. I picked out frames that were a lil more stylish than my old ones. I guess I was feeling a bit "hip" this morning for an 8:30am appointment after riding back from Oakland last night and only getting a few hours of sleep :) Overall I'm very satisfied and would recommend for anyone looking for an optometrist. read more

Dr. Ching is one of the nicest and most attentive optometrists i've had in the longest time. I had to ditch my last optometrist because my insurance didn't cover them so I found this place through my insurance and have never looked back. He referred and recommended me for lasik treatment for my eyes and it's been the best thing I've ever done. Dr. Ching is very reassuring and very thorough with any anticipated concerns and questions. I have had other doctors just do their routine and i'm out the door quickly. Great experience overall! If our office moves from the area that's fine, I'll still drive up for my annual visit (plus I have to so I can make sure I qualify for enhancements for my lasik!) This review was originally posted under EYE ZONE OPTOMETRY. As they and Dr Stephen Ching are one and the same I wanted to post it here as well! My experience at this place was great! I am not going to lie I didn't have high hopes going into my appointment! I have VSP and was looking for a VSP provider that was close to my house! Doctor Lori D Kam And Stephen K Ching came up in the results and they were the only ones that had a good review on yelp! So I decided to give them a chance and called to schedule my eye exam! They were able to fit me in the following week. They are open until 7:30pm on Tuesdays as well at one Saturday a month which is nice so that I don't have to miss work for an appointment! When you arrive to the location you don't think it looks like much from the outside, but once you go in it is very cute and clean! As I walked in I was greeted and instructed to fill out some new patient paperwork. After that I went back and had my eye exam with Dr. Stephen Ching. He was so nice and personable! I have never had a doctor be so friendly and get to know me so well in such a short amount of time; especially on my first visit! I also got to know a lot about him and his family! He is a great guy! I didn't feel rushed at all and he really took the time to find out about my vision needs and any concerns I had! After my exam I decided to go ahead and order new glasses! Now I loathe picking out new glasses! Judy was the one that helped me find the perfect match! She spent over an hour helping me find something that made me happy! I felt bad because I must have tried on easily 30 different pairs. But kudos to Judy for not making me feel like I was being a pain! As I continued to try on different pairs of classes I had finally narrowed it down to two pairs and I couldn't decide! Two of the other staff were so nice and took the time to offer their opinion on which one they thought looked best on me! It felt really genuine in there, not like they were just trying to sell me some glasses. They didn't push any products on me or try to get me to pay for something outside of my comfort zone which was nice! Also Judy also was able to educate me about the VSP Premier Vision Plan Benefits! Thankfully I didn't miss open enrollment at my work and I was able to sign up for 2014! Because I was able to sign up for the Premier Vision Plan I plan to go back in January 2014 and get that second pair of glasses that I had wanted for free!!! Let me explain something to those who have given an undesirable review. My wife has contacts and has been to the "so called best" contact specialists in the area for the last 40 years (we're not kids anymore). She has never been satisfied for any length of time. NO "specialist" in their fancy and elaborate office has ever given my wife the satisfaction she was hoping for. She has been very satisfied with Dr. Ching in all aspects of her eye care. An excellent optometrist who can work with difficult to fit contact wearers, and such an easy Dr. to relate to. As for me ... just needed a routine eye exam and bifocals, something Dr. Ching excels at. No need to pay big bucks for a fancy office. Excellent staff, friendly, worthy of our return visit. But the real prize here is Dr. Ching! read more

I thought I lost a contact lens in my eye. Dr Ching squeezed me in right away and was able to see me promptly. To look for the lens, he had to do something to my eye that was uncomfortable and he was very patient with me. read more

Dr. Ching and Dr. Kam are great. They are very friendly and knowledgeable and both give reliable eye exams. My complaint is with the man who fits your glasses when you pick them up. I have seen him 5 times for 2 separate pairs of glasses, and he can never fit them correctly! He just stares at me when I put them on and doesn't offer any suggestions about how to adjust them. I have been wearing glasses for 25 years and have never had someone fit glasses so poorly. As much as I like the doctors, I am sorry to say that I will have to find a new optometry office because a great eye exam can only get you so far when your glasses don't fit. read more

Dr.Ching is a very good optometrists. I have been going to him for over 5 years and I highly recommend his office. His receptionists are extremely nice and he has another employee help out when choosing glasses. Dr.Ching and his wife are very friendly, they have 2 offices and work with you as far getting you in as fast as possible. He also checked my daughters eyes when she as 3. He was extremely friendly to her and she was not scared of him or his equipment at all. He has unbelievable computer software to show you visually about your eye and breaks down what he sees. He simplifies his work and his explanations to you so that you know what he's talking about. I knew nothing about contacts and the optometrists at Kaiser just told me what I needed and pushed me out the door. Dr.Ching explained my stigmatism and went over every type of contact lens and why I needed a certain type of contact. He has been serving Rancho Cordova for a long time and they really know their stuff. Him and his wife are Cal Berkeley grads and they provide the greatest customer service for their patients. No thanks. I went to this Eye Doctor for the last 2 years but I guess since I came back the second year they though they could take advantage of me. They seem nicest don't let them fool you. I went in for a contact prescription, they fitted me, I expressed my concerns about the contacts not feeling great, they told me to try them on for a few days and let them know. I paid my bill and went on my way knowing that the contacts were not prefect but deferred to their advice about my eyes getting use to a different lens and a different prescription. I did all that, and after a few days decided that this fitting was not gonna work. I had to schedule a new appointment 2 weeks down the road and when I finally got back in the have the prescription refitted, they do so but charge me for the refitting. So, to reiterate, I voiced my concerns about the fitting of the contact lenses, they heeded my words and sent me away on a trial basis, then make me pay again for the fitting they messed up in the first place. DON'T GO TO THESE EYE DOCTORS. They are scamming people out of their money. There is no way you should have to pay for a fitting a second time when the eye doctor is at fault for the first fitting being wrong. read more

I have the worst Astigmatism. I would buy contacts only not to use them as once the rotate that is it. I could not see and this usually happened when I was driving. I moved to the Sacramento area and had to find another eye doctor. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Ching and he thought I would be a great candidate for a hybrid contact lens. They have a hard middle and soft outside. I had never heard about them but he said they had been around for about 8 years. Dr. Ching went onto to say that few eye doctors carry them because there has to be (I am paraphrasing now) because the doctor and patient have to be willing to spend more time with the "fitting" process. It did take about a week of getting used to the contacts with me refusing to give up. The center is hard so it is kinda like getting used to hard contacts but not as bad as in the 80s. That's the only way to describe it. But once you get used to it.... I have never seen better in my life. Seriously! Caution. When you first put them in at the doctor's office it is uncomfortable! But keep trying! Don't give up. I wear them 16 hours a day. The only complaint I have is that at the end of the day when I take them out I have to sit closer to the TV because I am no longer used to compromising on my vision. I wear my contacts when I work out and swim laps (I wear goggles of course). Dr. Ching! Thank you! read more
