I found "Eye Love Optometry" from my insurance carrier and I live nearby. I was nervous to try a new eye doc because I just did not have any luck in the past and didn't want to go through another experience where the Doc has problems with my prescription. I wear contacts and my prescription is challenging given I can't see well either far or near. Dr. Hsieh encouraged me to transition from my rigid gas permeable contacts to soft lenses because they are healthier for the eyes. And he told me this transition process would take a while as your eyes change prescription as you go through this process and that he would work with me. No Doc ever suggested this to me before so I was a bit nervous. Sure enough - my prescription changed and I was in his office weekly but over time my eyes settled and he provided the utmost care, time, and attention to my needs! Now I need to get glasses to wear with my contact lenses to deal with the nearsighted-ness but he is great to work with and the staff is very helpful. I'm so happy with his service and so happy I finally found an eye doctor who really does the right thing for his patients and spends a lot of time with them to make sure they are happy and he works to find the best solution for a complicated patient like me! And now I'm also so happy to be on soft contact lenses! Yay! read more

bad customer service first made us an appointment when they office is close and I saw dr and his assistant inside but they totally ignored me standing by the door for few minutes seems like I don't exist and then getting a new pair of glasses with new the lady at the frontdesk said have to wait for few days coz to be eligible again come in REALLY!!! Called my insurance they said I'm eligible now such a liar or they don't want tk take any services. This is the most unfriendly place that I know of in Pinole. I gave them one star simply because they were open later than most opt offices. As I walked in, the clerk at the front desk literally yelled from across the room asking me if there was something that she could help me with. Needless to say, I did not yell back because that is rude. When I approached the counter and explained that I was shopping around for new glasses she provided very little help and never moved from her chair to come on the sales floor and assist me. To make things worse, there was two other clerks sitting behind the desk and neither one moved from there chairs to offer assistance. They lack: 1)customer service skills 2)good manners 3) communication skills 4)sales tactics I clearly told the girl at the desk that I was fully covered with insurance and you would think that someone would at least try to pitch a sale and show me around...but no. They all sat in there chairs and appeared to be doing nothing. Also the young lady with what appeared to be "colored contacts" seemed scared to talk only showing half of her face and the other half ducked under the counter. Not sure what is going on with this place but I would suspect they will not be in this space very long. read more

I have been coming here for 3 years now and Dr. Hsieh & his staff are amazing. They are all very courteous and knowledgeable. You could really tell Dr. Hsieh loves what he does in the way he works with his patience. The best thing about the exam is that he will tell you what each exam is for, what he is looking for when he looks at your test results and diagrams, and always gives yet concise information during the exam (what you need to really know about each eye). The staff are also very helpful in picking out the frames that will fit your face and they don't try to BS you in buying something that doesn't fit you. They are also all very friendly and nice and are very patient when going through your choice of frames. The best thing about them is that they will sit there and explain what you will be charged for the frames and lenses after you select the frames you want. This helps to decide whether the frames you choose are really in your price range and what choice could save you money. read more

This is by far the best optometry office that I have been to. My experiences at my old optometrist that I have been going to for the past three years in Santana Row (Optical Illusions) have been less than stellar, but I was duped by their convenient location for me and selection of frames. However, the doctor always appeared rushed and their opticians weren't always as helpful as they should have been. I took the drive out to El Sobrante after receiving a high level of recommendation for my annual eye exam/contact lens fitting. Dr Hsieh was extremely helpful and very meticulous. After my eye exam, Aidan (office manager/optician) had several framed picked out for my facial structure. He was very patient as I tried on the various pairs, as this is the part I usually hate the most because I can never decide. At the end of the visit, I had picked out a fantastic frame - one that Aidan strongly suggested. I typically only wear my glasses at night before bed, or in the morning before I put my contacts in, but I now wear my glasses at least three times a week to work, out to the bars, gym, etc. The prescription is perfect (my old prescriptions were apparently too strong, and I always had headaches..which is another reason why I hardly wore my glasses). FALSE ADVERTISING!!! I called 1 week ago because they are covered by VSP insurance that I have, they're right down the street and they advertise Nike and Oakley frames on their website. They have a very nice website and the receptionist was very polite. But I called to set up an appointment on September 25, 2015. The receptionist said they had NO APPOINTMENTS UNTIL OCTOBER. I understand places can be booked up but having to wait 6 plus days to get glasses??? I read several very bad reviews about long wait times having to wait 2 plus hours past a scheduled appt time and they were EXTREMELY UNDERSTAFFED and OVERBOOKED but I thought what the hell maybe it's just a few unreasonable customers. So then I ask about NIKE frames because they have it VERY CLEARLY advertised on their home page for brands they offer. The receptionist said they don't carry NIKE frames and haven't for "a while". I asked about Oakley frames since I have those as well. Guess what? They don't carry Oakley frames either even though it's prominently listed RIGHT NEXT TO NIKE on their website. I asked the receptionist why they advertise brands that they don't actually have. Her answer was an apology and bragged that they had MANY BRANDS to choose from and if I'd just come by she'd be happy to show me. When I told her it's very SHADY and false advertising to advertise brands on their website that they don't have she was speechless and had no response besides asking again to book an appt to come in. I told her No thank you have a nice day and hung up. Guess what? Nike and Oakley are STILL ON THEIR WEBSITE as frames they carry and today is September 30th 2015. I can vouch for FALSE ADVERTISING and having to wait over a week to get an appt when you can go into Lens Crafters or Sight for Sore Eyes SAME DAY and walk out with an exam and new glasses speaks for itself. Eye Love is a wonderful place if you are looking for glasses that are beautiful, chic, and out of the ordinary. Further their measurements and quality are phenomenal. This place doesn't even deserve one star! They've really gone downhill in the last few years. I used to love them, but I will no longer be using their services. I just called to get my brother's PD and the lady on the refused to give it to me and said she'd only give it to me for $40. Are you serious?! She was also basically yelling at me in a very rude way! What type of customer service is that? Doesn't she realize that because of customers like myself and many others are the only reason she even has a job! While I was on the phone I was also going to ask for my eye glasses prescription, but I'm pretty sure she was going to want to charge me for that as well! This place has turned into a money oriented business and not customer service, if you had good customer service the money part would come on it's own. NEVER again will I use their services. They just lost a customer that's been coming to them for about 8 years. EDIT on 3/8/2017: For some reason I am just now seeing the reply I got for my review... with every review written this place responds in an arrogant way... with that being said to respond about not getting the PD because we didn't get the original frames and prescription from this place, unfortunately we did get a frame and prescription from here at the time of the appointment. When I called to ask for the PD it was for an extra pair of glasses that I was going to purchase somewhere else. But I am happy to say that I have found a much better place and have not used this place since the bad experience I had. I also know of many others that stopped going here due to their lacking customer service skills. I went to Dr. Hsieh at Eye Love Optometry because I read some positive reviews. It's a small, nice-looking shop with a limited selection of frames. I believe the doctor is good, but the whole office, and Dr. Hsieh himself, focus on upselling and trying to squeeze additional money out of patients by suggesting unneeded procedures and products. When a doctor tells you, "I think it would be a good idea if I use this new, top-o-the-line machine that will let me see everything inside your eyes even more clearly" you tend to think, "well, ... I'm not a doctor and he is, ... uh, sure, ... if I need it ....". Your insurance doesn't cover it, but the doctor said it would be a "good idea." Maybe he should say, "this new machine cost me six figures; would you like to help me pay it off? Upselling should not be done by doctors. Then there's the Eye Love Optometry staff. I think the staff might be on commission, because closing the big sale, instead of getting the customer what they need, is their priority. I'm going to find someplace else with a better selection and different priorities. read more

I have been going to this eye doctor for 8 years now, and I have always been taken good care of! I started to lose my vision in 5th grade so I had to see an eye doctor fast. During this time they were still located in El Sobrante. The old office was very clean and organized, but smaller than the current office. The new office however is so much bigger, and much more organized. They have some new employees as well and I love them! They are always very nice and cheerful. I always look forward to my visits because I know I won't be greated with snotty attitude. One thing that I really enjoy is the fact that they are speedy with repairing my glasses. I've only managed to have minor damage on my glasses, and they have mostly been able to fix them in five minutes or less. My mother and gradmother also started going about 2 years ago. We always make appintments together, and we never have any problems. No complaints from us at all! read more

This place is beautiful but can be on the pricey side. However, beautiful decor cannot hide the inner ugliness of the staff. They were insulting and rude and actually encouraged us to take our business elsewhere. Based on how I saw others being treated, I cannot help but to wonder if it was because I was of a different race then everyone else. Perhaps not. I hesitated writing a review and in fact, have waited several weeks before doing because I believe everyone has a bad day from time to time. However, I have never had such a rude and disrespectful experience and I see from previous reviews, I am not the first. I see that the doctor is courteous enough to reply to negative reviews - which is awesome. How unacceptable can this behavior be however, if it continues to happen? I was told by an front assoc that he would submit the invoice to my flex plan. So I waited for my prescription glasses since it wouldn't go through for payment until my Flex spending plan had been satisfied. There are codes I guess that identify what services we get from optometry places that wasn't on the invoice from El Sobrante Optometry (changed their name and moved to Pinole). It seemed logical to me that a professional service that should know all about flex plans and the IRS would be the most qualified to do the paper word. So after 3 yrs as a client, I popped in and asked them to fax the their invoice to my flex, and he said he would. So I waited, and waited, and then got a skeptical letter from the flex plan. So I called El Sobrante Optometry and asked about it, and got a hostile lecture that they "don't submit invoices to Health insurance Companies!" . I Said; "Why didn't you tell me that three weeks ago, instead of saying you would?"At that point the fact that I had said; "I'm REALLY HARD ON FRAMES AND SO I NEED YOUR MOST RESILIENT" 5 times if i said it once, and then when my lens were not photochromic as I had ordered and paid for, and while I was sitting there to pick up the replacements, was told that; "The Berlin Frames are by far our most indestructible, you SHOuld have gotten those!", when he was the one that sold me the narly looking frames I now was stuck with, I began to think that NO MATTER HOW COMPETENT, GOOD LOOKING, AND CHARMING, THE OPTOMETRIST IS, if he has prima donna's running the front of the house, the clients are there to serve them, not them them the clients. I BELIEVE that this business has changed hands, and the previous reviews are for the previous owner(s). Their prices are WAY out of line, they are unclear regarding the prices until it comes time to pay, and customer service is lacking. Last month (January), I received a bill for glasses I paid for six months earlier! This was not an insurance purchase, and it was my understanding that the price quoted, and the price I paid, was the payment in full for the glasses when I left with them (six months earlier). THEN they decide they under-charged me, and sent me a bill! My husband got progressive lenses. They charged him $600 and also billed the insurance company about $400. Now the glasses were nice, but $1,000!?! They were nothing special. A couple months after he purchased them, when the side arm fell off, and he lost it, they charged him another $150 to replace it! Their prices are just WAY out of line. Sorry, but I will be going back to UC Berkeley School of Optometry next time. read more

I am a paying customer and your staff made me feel as though my input was not valid. I do however understand that they are supposed to give me advice so that the customer (me) leaves feeling like I got the best quality lenses and adequate frames. However the feeling I left with was that your staff could care less about myself and my needs. The subliminal under their breath comment when I returned to pick up my glasses .. "oh those glasses" as if our former encounter were a problem. Very pleased with Dr Hsieh. I have Diabetes and my blood sugar control wasn't stable when he and I met. After a reassuring thorough dilated exam, Dr Hsieh thought it would be best to repeat the refraction part of the exam when my blood sugar stabilized. Very wise, as once it did, my prescription changed a lot. Two weeks later, the third re-check- we settled on the prescription that's just right. The office is comfortable and stylish- from the furnishings to the chill, soothing music. So why 4 not 5. Well, the staff are friendly but... I must say- rather embarrassed- that maybe it was ageism that led my service to be just less than actively interested in me and my eyeglass choice. Angela was going to check on an available color and get back to me in days. A little more than a month later and after severa; reminders, I got a phone message about it. Here's what I now know- no sense of fitting or help in choosing a style. Selection of frames a bit limited. The 5th star does to another office, in Albany, where without question, I was treated to service that was eager and excellent. So, Pinole people, you're good. The Doc, great! I should have gotten glasses years ago. I tried to get glasses at another place about 4 years ago, but I was so dissatisfied with that exam and the glasses, that I just threw those glasses away and I've been managing with squinting and using drug store reading glasses. However, I finally, decided I need to see better, and I just happened to see Eye Love Optometry and I went in. I am so glad I did. The staff and the Dr. are all so wonderful. Since I was a walk in, I just observed for a while, and saw how the staff helped and interacted with the customers. They are patient and friendly and incredibly helpful. When I got my eye exam, I was really impressed with how thorough Dr. Hsieh is, and how knowledgeable! He was able to explain so much to me, and I felt totally respected and well-informed. When I selected frames, I reviewed the great selection they had, and the staff helped me choose, and then ordered other color samples to be sure I would be happy with my glasses. And I love my new glasses. The frames are great, the fit is great, and I can see again!!! I also got contacts. Both my glasses and my contacts are multifocal lenses, so I can see near and far and inbetween. I am very happy with my experience at Eye Love Optometry, and I highly recommend this service to others. read more

Since I have been wearing the same contact lenses for 5 years, Dr. Hsieh told me and his staff that I would not have to come back for a follow up, after my examinstion, Then they spent 30 minutes telling me how much my lenses would cost. What they said didn't make sense. I have excellent vision insurance. When I called my insurance company, they agreed that what Dr. Hsieh's office was saying was wrong. I did not purchase my lenses from his office. I wanted to compare prices with other places. Who wouldnt do that? I have always ordered contact lenses online, in the past, and, again, the online price was less. When I ordered them from the online store, they contacted Dr. Hsieh to confirm the prescription. Dr. Hsieh refused to tell them stating that I did not have a follow up, even though he had said I did not need one. Dr. Hsieh, billed my insurance company for lenses and was paid. Now I have no lenses and they fraudulently took the insurance payment. I will never go back and would never recommend them. They were all very nice but I don't do business with bad business people. read more

hi let me tell you about my experience at the optometrist it's really nice to be treated like family. as soon as you walk in you are greeted by two young women, virginia and zayda who are so nice they make you feel like royalty. i was so scared to see the doctor but dr. hsieh was very detailed and he explained every part of the exam making me feel comfortable. after seeing the doctor i was passed on to very stylish aidan who made me feel like an all-star. overall my experience was wonderful i would recommend this office to everyone who needs an eye exam. read more

I went to them for the first time when they were located in El Sobrante several years ago and I really liked the Doctor and my glasses were nice...my husband and I just recently went for the Doctor to check our eyes and to get new glasses...I really like the Doctor but the frame guy was rude to my husband and I should have stood up for my husband instead I tried to brush it off, but I should have stood up for him and I feel bad now. He didn't take hardly any time to help him choose a frame and when he came to me afterwards to make sure my husband had understood everything it was like he didn't trust my husband's judgment and it offended him and me. 10 days later we picked up my husband's glasses and when we got home I noticed that one lens was alot thicker than the other one right where the glass fits into the frame ...we took them back and they just said it had to be that way because of his perscription...we are going to take them to Lens Crafters and see what they say...I've never heard of such a thing! I would go back here and talk with the Doctor about it but I don't want to talk with the staff anymore. Staff is rude and has ATTITUDE!!! read more
