I have this extremely fragile pair of glasses that are basically two lenses with the side attached to them. Of course I sat on them after having them for only 3 weeks. I looked around Yelp in the internet and this place was recommended as a best place in town to fix glasses. I popped in and it turns out one of the owners is the greeter. This is fantastic as for many small businesses the owners are nowhere to be seen. Right out of the gate he was friendly, happy, and wearing a really sharp pair of glasses (for him). I mentioned that I found them on Yelp and showed him my glasses. He was pretty sure it was an easy fix and would be done in a couple days for 10 or 15 bucks. To my enjoyment he called the very next day to say they were done. Got here a few minutes before my appointment and the place was packed. Not to mention that while I was sitting here to walk ins' came in just to check out the place. If you want a unique design and/or a unique design with color this is your place. Normally when I'm browsing around my opticians office, it's dozens of boring glasses that all look exactly the same.... gray, black, brown, charcoal gray, silver gray.... Eye Openers is exactly what their name suggests, frames that start the conversation. Frames that are in fact eye openers. And all my years on Yelp I normally wait until I have several reviews to write and then write them. Eye Openers is only the 2nd business everywhere I had such a great experience I decided to sit and write my review right now. Great experience. They confirmed my vaccination status and I was able to then remove my mask. I worked with Kyle who did a fantastic job. My plan was to just pick out my own frames and to not really work with anyone but I was surprised how many frames Kyle found that I had overlooked, and I wound up purchasing ones that he had help select for me. Eye Openers is the only place I will go for glasses. I have to wear progressive lenses every day so my glasses are like jewelry to me and express my individuality .... they have to look great and not be cookie cutter. Rochester is a conservative city but my glasses are not. There is no waiting if you have an appointment and the staff treat you like close friends. read more

Wow...just wow! I went into Eye Openers to look at glasses a week or so ago. They are still wearing masks and doing Covid protocols and said I needed an appointment (I couldn't just look at frames as I had done everywhere else.) I respected that. I set an appointment and came back today. They asked for my vaccination card. I appeciated the caution they took to protect customers and staff. I found it a bit invasive though that they wrote my vaccination information in their records, but I was then allowed to take off my mask which helps while shopping for glasses. I had personal service looking at glasses which I appreciated until I looked at the inside of an eyeglass frame while making notes in my phone's note pad about the glasses I was interested in. The girl who waited on me reached across the counter, snatched the glasses out of my hand, and said, "We don't allow customers to do that! I said I had taken notes about frames I was interested in at several eyeglass stores so I could remember which glasses I'd seen where. She repeated her line and I told her I'd done this in several stores and never had glasses snatched out of my hands. She said their eyeglasses were proprietary to them. (They are the only ones who have them). I said, "If that's true, why would you be worried about me finding them somewhere else? I want personal (local) service. I wasn't going to look for them elsewhere...you waited on me. She continued to defend her actions. I'm still stunned. She treated me like a thief and then asked if I wanted her to hold the glasses for a week. I said no, and she said she would hold them anyway. No thanks! You run a premium eyeglass business with expensive designer frames. You screen your customers and make them set appointments. Perhaps you should trust them a bit. read more

I went to Eye Openers recently looking for a new pair of frames/lenses that were "fun" but still appropriate for work. I was discouraged by the ones I saw in stores because they were all so boring. In the past I've purchased frames and lenses from chain stores as well as online. You have to make an appointment but it's worth it because then you get personal service. The person I had an appointment with brought me lots of frames to try on in addition to the ones I chose myself. I really appreciated her insight and opinions on how the frames looked and fit my nose bridge and my face. I never felt rushed at all--I think they are used to spending hours with their clients. I absolutely love the frames I ultimately chose. I get so many compliments on them and they are nothing like ones I saw in the mall stores. I'm not going to lie--they were expensive, but I'm guessing they probably have other price points as well. The other thing I noticed is that my progressive lenses were absolutely perfect. I didn't realize how bad my other progressive lenses were until I wore these. Excellent service and products. read more

This optical fashion store is simple exactly what it's called-- Eye Openers. My wife and I are looking for a new pair of glasses. We have been to 4 other stores prior to visiting eye openers. For me, its my first pair of glasses. My perspective in this situation is that I have no clue what to look for, I never had to do this! I was extremely unpleased with the customer service I received in the four prior stores I visited. Not only was the customer service horrible, worse was the fact that I didn't know what i was looking for. I could like a pair of glasses off the shelf then notice that it does not look right on me. Right when I was going to give up my search and settle for something basic, my wife suggested we visit Eye Openers. She couldn't have been more right. As soon as we entered the store Sherie(wonderful Stylist) greeted my wife and I with in seconds. Not knowing where to begin, Sherie looked at both of us in the face and within a few seconds went off and started picking plenty of frames to try without us having to walk around. Kyle(fantastic Stylist) also teamed up and started to help pick out frames to try. The hardest part was picking one pair from innumerable choices due to both stylist having such superior taste. We trusted them completely. Both Sherie and Kyle were so friendly, easy going, and not pushy. They put to the table exactly what we described we wanted and at the same time opened our frame of thought to designs we would never think to get but worked so well. I never felt so in love with the pair I chose with there help and my wife feels the same exact way. I was bummed with the thought of having to wear glasses until I visited Eye Openers. I've been doing business with Eye Openers since 2000. There's no place I'd rather go for my eyewear needs. Marilyn is a phenomenal frame stylist and always helps to pick out the perfect frame. I currently own frames from Robert Marc, Waza, David Yurman, Iyoko Inyake, RayBan and Rudy Project. All have their own purpose depending on my current need and my mood. You won't find a better selection of frames anywhere in Rochester and I guarantee, you will not find another optician that offers the incredibly high level of customer service and care that Richard Levy and his entire staff offers. Simply stated, they are the best in the business and the epitome of professionalism. As far as price, you're shopping at a very high end optical boutique with frames from the best manufacturers in the world. Good things aren't cheap and cheap things aren't good. You will definitely get what you paid for at Eye Openers. They're worth every penny! read more

My husband was getting glasses for the first time so I naturally consulted Yelp to see where we should go. I read the reviews about what a great selection they have here so we stopped here first. And boy, the reviewers weren't kidding! This was definitely the largest collection of glasses I have ever seen! We didn't know to make an appointment (which is recommended) but I watched an employee working with an older woman and I was impressed at the employee's honesty, gently telling her when a pair of glasses didn't flatter her and asking if a pair might be too trendy or "out there" color or shape-wise. We didn't end up buying glasses there because they didn't take our insurance but they do offer 40% off if they don't cover yours. But the real reason I wanted to leave this review is that we ended up going down the road to another "knock off" eyewear store and the service was night and day different. We left the second store in a hurry, feeling awkward after the strange and horrendous customer service. I can't speak to the quality as my husband hasn't received his new pair yet to know if they are good or bad but the customer service here is certainly worth considering. read more

We walked in here and were overwhelmed by a phenomenal selection of outstanding eyewear The service people were incredibly polite keeping just the right distance. She was honest in giving opinions and helpful in ruling out frames which didn't fit my face. Although I haven't bought glasses yet as I still need to update my prescription I will return to the largest selection of real "designer" frames I've ever seen. Got my glasses now. This place has the best selection of high quality frames in town. I have bought three pairs here over the years, and in every case the assistance I got in trying on frames and deciding on a final choice has been outstanding. Unlike other optical shops, I have never had a problem with the lenses they've made for me. Without fail, I receive compliments on my glasses all over the country, with people asking where on earth I got them. While they are not the cheapest glasses you will ever buy, if you're wearing them 16 hours of every day of your life, and they don't break or have screws fall out, I think they're worth it. read more

I have gone to this business numerous times and have actually purchased frames and lenses in the past for over $900. For the most part I have to say the customer service is a crap shoot. At times the service person is helpful, but most times treated you like they had better things to do. Numerous times when I have gone in to have my glasses adjusted, they ask if I bought them at their store. What if I hadn't?! Would they reject me as a potential customer? A very poor business practice. Always assume someone is a potential buyer, or will at least spread the good word about your business. At another visit, I asked the cost of some frames and they suggested I make an appointment at another time to be able to have someone assist me. They were NOT busy at the time. No one was waiting for assistance. Bottom line...if you want to spend a lot of money, there are some really fun, trendy frames. I first went to Eye Openers to get stylish frames for an important professional event. When I purchased the frames, I ordered the lenses as well at Eye Openers. I have worn glasses since I was in fourth grade and I have never had such high quality lenses before. I wear bifocals and my vision is really quite poor, making it difficult to find glasses that don't make me look old and nerdy. The original glasses I bought at Eye Openers were striking, attractive and very unique. I received many compliments on them. I am a retired teacher and am always looking for a bargain. Two years ago I heard about the annual frames sale at Eye Openers during the month of August. All frames on the sale table cost $79. I visited the sale, bought myself a pair and bought a pair for both my daughters as well. In September I took my frames in to get the lenses in them. I discovered that by purchasing the frames during the sale, I received 30% off my lenses as well. I paid less for these glasses, with all the professional advice and fittings than I had at any other vision center. Yet, the frames were beautiful, the lenses perfect and the total effect very pleasing. A year later, after I retired, a deer jumped in front of my car and broke straight through the windshield. I had severe facial injuries including a broken nose, cheekbone and eye socket. After the reconstructive surgery, I called Eye Openers to see what I could do about my glasses. One of the side pieces had broken. I was told not to worry, that they would use the measurements and prescription they already had on hand to create a new pair. I had my new glasses before I even got the splint off my nose. I have experienced the compassion, understanding and expertise for myself and I cannot say enough about this great company.
