Aftercare from the procedure is very lackluster here. I've had chronic dry eye, light sensitivity, and poor night vision since getting LASIK performed here in 2022 and was assured that these issues would clear up in the following months during a follow up I had. They have a 6 month window after the surgery where you're able to get checked and a 2 year window for any actual "enhancements" to be done. The issues never improved unfortunately and I'm now beyond the window where any additional care would basically require me to pay the entire cost for the procedure again. Their website has a page criticizing other clinics for their "lifetime guarantees", but my friend was able to get a correction done five years after his initial surgery and he had less complications than I did. I would suggest looking elsewhere. read more

Be careful. The Mann experience, which once considered care and attentiveness toward the customer, is now gone, specifically the office experience at the front desk. (Where is Dr. Mann when I need him?) I was here yesterday for my annual eye check. So much is robotic from inserting your driver license card in a machine as two staff sit at a desk. (Do not insert your DL in the machine nor give away your SSN. You can refuse. I am still recovering from identity theft.) Nobody apologizes or admits wrong; these are key practices to learn and for transparency. Also, the request to charge your credit card for any reason is presented. The document does not say it's optional. The first sentence is misleading. (Refuse. I did, and then 4 staff members came together. One asks, "What's the problem?") I ended up completing a paper form. Next, you're asked to allow an additional $55 fee if you are found to have a defect. On my way out I had to make another stop to pay and make sure I was not overcharged. Last, I wanted to schedule my next appointment, because the ophthalmologists and specialists are superb. Get this: I was told it was impossible to schedule my next eye check appointment. Why? They don't have the calendar up yet. 2024 is around the corner! How can the office experience become better or at least more caring and helpful? Refusing to schedule appointments for loyal customers? (It took me 5 months to make this appointment.) I was told to call back in 6 months to make an appointment for my annual check. (Nobody in the front desk wears name tags, so it is hard to tell who's who.) How can this place once so caring become so bureaucratic and with no ophthalmologists involved? I wished the ophthalmologists knew what happens at the front desk. Poor, uncaring office services appear here. Once you're past the front desk shenanigans, however, you finally get to meet the professionals who care and take care of you for real and with expertise. I feel so valued when right from the moment I arrive, from the Front Desk with Sadie and Summer to the Most and important Doctor but before I see the doctor I must see the Tech and good lord Dahyana was AMAZING! she checked my eyes with No hesitation, she was assertive and Cared about my situation THANK YOU DAHYANA! and my Doctor Beautiful Young and knows what ordered the Best Eye Care for me now when I think of Mann Eye these individuals will Surly come to mind. Not helpful and a waste of time. Deeply regret scheduling an appointment, I wish I could turn back time and get my money back. I came in with swelling in my eyelid that's made it hard to see and putting pressure on my eye. Yes, I know it's a stye and yes, I have been using eye drops and a warm compress. They haven't helped. I scheduled because I needed some kind of immediate relief today. Or at least advice on how I could drain it myself. I have to go back into work tomorrow and I have to wear my contacts in order to see clearly. Being seen for only 20 minutes for them to basically say it'll be gone in a couple weeks absolutely sucks. And the visit was over $100. It was worth more like $10, $20 tops. And my eye still freaking hurts. read more

Mann Eye Institute is a reckless business that is allowing their patients to be potentially exposed to Covid. I was in a state of shock when I was taken back to the room by an assistant who was to check my vision and my eye pressure. She was not wearing a mask and when I asked her if she was concerned about Omicron she asked me 'What is Omicron? I then asked her if she was vaccinated and she said 'NO'. She did ask me at that point if I would feel more comfortable if she put on a mask and she did so. I was in a state of complete disbelief. She asked me to return to the waiting room after she finished checking my vision. When she came to bring back the next patient she was not wearing a mask. Mann Eye Institute is not requiring masks for anyone; even for employees who are unvaccinated. Most of the people at the front desk were maskless as well and there was an elderly patient in the waiting room with no mask who was coughing nonstop. Despite the fact that my ophthalmologist is excellent (and was wearing a mask as was his assistant) I cannot possible return to this practice which has such a blatant disregard for patient safety. I also cannot believe that the woman who checked my vision and eye pressure, who was unvaccinated, engaging in direct patient care (in as close proximity you can possibly get to a patient) would not take personal responsibility and wear a mask at ALL times knowing she is unvaccinated and could potentially expose a patient or a another employee to Covid. I call Dr. Tremblay the Boy Wonder. He did my difficult cataract surgeries...one last week, one yesterday. I had very bad astigmatism, and really bad cataracts. And today? I can see to the back of my 2 acre property! There are birds, and rabbits, and there's life out there! I can see each individual leaf on trees two blocks away! I did have him do the top tier lenses...if I had to go through it, then I was going to get the best. At my appt today Dr. Tremblay said I'm healing perfectly, and my vision tested really well. I am free to drive! I actually shed tears in his office...how wonderful to be able to change lives like this! Just...amazing. I would NEVER go to anyone else. Great doctor(s) and horrible billing department who tells you one thing and then comes back later with new bills and when you try to talk to them about the bill, they want to explain the insurance procedure to you. We understand insurance, but when you don't know what insurance is going to cover--DON'T TELL THE CLIENT THAT INSURANCE HAS TAKEN CARE OF EVERYTHING ELSE, ONLY TO COME BACK A MONTH LATER WITH A NEW BILL. And if you don't listen to the insurance billing process repeatedly--they have no problem hanging up on you "on a recorded line". It doesn't matter if it is recorded, because no one in management is listening to the recordings. It's just something they have to do or say--I'm not sure which. It's not so that they can learn and change their customer service procedure. So, Great doctor. Terrible sense of customer service. read more

Getting LASIK was one of my worst fears, but a lot of my friends recommended Mann Eye Institute. It was more pricy than Lasik plus, but I couldn't get ahold of anyone directly at Lasik plus after getting qualified, which made me not feel comfortable getting the procedure there. It is my eyes, after all. Luckily, Mann Eye was at the SXSW wellness expo with a drawing for 50% off, and I won! This made the procedure affordable for me, and all the signs pointed to Mann eye, so I was very excited to have the ability to get this procedure done. My father actually got eye surgery at The Woodlands Mann Eye center location. He sadly passed away about 5 years later from cancer, but not having to wear the heavy glasses he had his whole life was one of the highlights of his final years. (Everyone wishes that they would've done it sooner.) The staff at Mann eye were always easy to get ahold of and answer any questions I had. My anxiety was crazy high the day of surgery, so I do wish I would've requested to have been able to take the valium earlier in the morning. By the time I took it, it didn't actually kick in until I got home. They said they give it to you to help you sleep after surgery, and not necessarily for anxiety. Though I didn't have any anxiety medication, the staff really helped to calm my nerves. I was lucky enough to have the procedure performed by Dr. Mike Mann himself! He was very nice and performed the procedure perfectly, and under 10 minutes. I would definitely recommend holding one of the nurse's hands during the procedure. That really helped me during the unpleasant part, which is the pressure you experience under the first machine, where the laser creates the flap. The second machine which is the laser that reshapes your cornea was no problem. One of my other fears was the potential of not having great night vision or halos that could last 3-6 months in the recovery period. I am lucky to have had an easy and speedy recovery. While some patients experience irritation for a week, I was good to go the next day. The eye drops made the foreign object sensation go away, and within a couple of days, my vision was great, and there was no discomfort. I've been taking eye healing supplements and had a great doctor, so those may have affected my recovery outcome. I am so thankful to have the miracle of sight. It is difficult to describe, after wearing glasses my whole life, and losing my sense of taste and smell from Covid for many months to now having all of my senses working perfectly. I feel like a superhuman, even though I am still a regular human haha. I am better at billiards now, and it has only been a week since my surgery! Thank you Dr. Mann! read more

She made my preop appointment enjoyable. The follow-through care has made me feel safe and confident. Although I'm still in recovery and healing, I feel good knowing I have this team as my care team. UPDATE: I am ten days post-op, and I cannot say I recommend Lasik. My vision is blurry with my computer screen and sometimes my phone. I got lasik here over a year ago. Everyone was very nice prior to my surgery. Since my surgery I have continuously had issues with my night version. It became worse after getting lasik. I also see a glare when I look certain ways. I called Mann Eye on numerous occasions after my surgery and kept being brushed off and told that it would improve. I eventually just gave up on trying to get help. Over a year later and it never improved. I also wish I would have looked at other options before going with Mann eye, as I later found other places for better prices. read more

They are the only ophthalmology that repeats the first step twice. After the initial consultation and dilation they want you to go their far north office in a week for a repeat this time with a $450 out of pocket expense with dilation once again. This is when they prescribe the eye drops. Scam! No other ophthalmologist has this out of pocket expense repeating the actions of your first visit. The person consulting you on the options doesn't listen to you and keeps trying to get you to purchase one of their premium packages. If you just have a cataract, they want you to go full lasik. Try to tell them no. A waste of money and time. read more

The first time I went to Mann was at the office here in Sun City. It was a great experience. Then I traveled to Austin to the Mann location to see an ophthalmologist. She was great. She diagnosed the problem. BUT, the technician who did the initial exam damaged my lens. I don't know if she was having a bad day or what but she seemed to be in a bad mood. When she mounted my glasses on some device to read the prescription, I heard the lens hit something. She gave the glasses back to me and I saw something on the lens. I just assumed it was a smudge from her fingers. When I got home and tried to clean the lens, I was devastated to find it had a long vertical scratch. I keep those lenses spotless. I had cleaned them before going to that appointment. Now I am dealing with trying to get something done about this. It's been six days now and no response. If this isn't resolved quickly, I would never recommend Mann, no matter how good their doctors are. read more

Picture this, I set my alarm for 8 am, it goes off, I say "Eh I can snooze a couple a times and make it in time for my 9 am consultation." I wake up at 9:05. "Well there goes your appointment Ben, and now you get to beat yourself up for taking up their time and business." I call Mann Eye Institute and Chris or Deborah at the front desk were so kind and let me know it's okay and we can reschedule. I ask if there is any way to get in today. They said they would check even though they were booked up. They let me know I could get in at 10 am! I arrive and am greeted by Chris and Deborah at the front desk. They let me know that it is okay I missed my 9 am appointment and that they are glad I'm here now. Very professional and nice, good vibes. After I wait for a short period of time, Elvia my tech comes and gets me. Let me tell you, she is a master at her craft and guides me through each of the machines, letting me know about what each of them do. I commented about her glasses after she said her husband had Lasik, and she said she's getting Lasik tomorrow. I'm excited for her. Very friendly and professional. Next up, after waiting for a short period of time again (remember I missed my original appointment), I'm taken back to see Dr. Cessac. She just had a cool vibe about her, the kind of vibe that let me know I could relax and be myself. Again, just so cordial and professional, guiding me through each step and giving me some positive affirmations when doing the eye tests (even though I wasn't acing the tests). She was very patient as I went through the questions I had (didn't have my morning coffee, so took a while to remember them). Next, after waiting for a short period again I see Kim the counselor. Very affable, friendly, and professional. She gave me all the information I needed with a booklet about the doctors, the pricing, and the discounts (very reasonably priced). She answered any questions I had and let me know what to expect before, during, and after the procedure, giving me insight and details about the steps. Lastly, I was taken back to Chris & Deborah at the front desk again, which was a nice treat as I enjoyed their presence and chatted a little bit. The consultation was free and they let me know again not to worry about missing my original appointment. This place has an awesome staff, so professional and so friendly! One of the best places if not the best place I have checked out and I would definitely recommend them to anyone considering getting Lasik. I had Lasik done yesterday by Dr. Mike Mann and I had an exceptional experience!! The procedure itself was not the funnest thing I've ever done, it wasn't painful but uncomfortable to say the least. However, it was extremely fast and worth it. Everyone was very nice and welcoming. The front desk girl is the sweetest!! If your considering Lasik then definitely consider Mann Eye. I looked at the big 3 in Austin and all are competitively priced, only differing by a couple hundred bucks. The big 3 in Austin all take VSP insurance which was a massive discount ( for me it was 1000$ per eye and 15% off total). They also have interest free financing options up to 18mos interest free through Care Credit. As far as the facilities go, both north (eye consults) and south locations (surgery site) are aesthetically very nice compared to others and just seem very updated and professional. The staff was also amazing and they walk you through all steps and in as much detail as you wanna go. A major selling point for me was the technology, which is definitely top notch, and the experience of Dr. Paul Mann who was absolutely fantastic. As an engineer I had a good time researching the various laser and eye mapping methods. The speed that their femtosecond laser works is significantly faster than other locations. Trust me...when your eye is exposed, every second feels like an hour so less time exposed is definitely better. Healing time is also supposedly improved and less possibility for eye dehydration. For me it literally took less than 10sec per eye once the corneal flap is made. I think it was less than 10min total for both eyes. Before the procedure, they do give you valium and ibuprofen which helps you to relax:). As for the procedure be prepared as the flap opening is the most uncomfortable part of the surgery. The 1st laser presses against your eye and it goes completely black. Its an indescribable and uncomfortable feeling but doesnt hurt. Contrary to what you would think no part of the process hurts especially once the flap is made due to all the numbing drops which work well for about an hour. When they are doing the corneal shaping there is a smell that smells like burned hair but again speed is key. DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO SLEEP WHEN YOU GET HOME!! It took me some time and there is definitely discomfort and eye watering once the numbing drops wear off. The longer you sleep the quicker you get past this point as the flap quickly heals and swelling subsides. I was able to sleep for about 4hrs after i got home and my eyes felt so much better after a good sleep. Speaking of recovery, the preservative free artificial tears are key. Place them in the fridge and they are so soothing on the eye post surgery. I also would recommend if you have a Costco membership to buy the cRefresh" brand tears from there. You get 100 vials for about 20$ and they recap so you get several uses per eye. I put some in my car, gym bag, and at the office so they are always accessible. For me the surgery was a success!! I could barely read the largest "E" (20/200) on the Snellen chart and by my 1st followup the next day I was at 20/15. By my 1wk post op checkup....20/10!!! Thank you so much again Mann Eye!! My negative review is not a reflection of my experience in the office at Mann Eye, but a reflection of their recommendation for me to move forward with LASIK at all. My eyesight is fairly bad (-8.0) and I also have astigmatism. I had been told by my regular eye doctor a couple of years ago that I likely wasn't a candidate for LASIK because my corneas are thin, but I wanted to check regardless. I wanted to see if my likelihood of candidacy had changed given the updated laser (vs. scalpel) technology. I had been recommended to Mann Eye by a number of people who said they had an amazing experience, but none of them had eyesight as bad as mine. The staff and doctors at Mann Eye were fantastic during my consultation. I felt they were very thorough and everyone was friendly. That day, they told me I was an amazing candidate. Even in the consultation, I told them this really surprised me because of what my regular doctor had warned. But they said the technology had improved and I was a fantastic candidate. They did say that other places might not say the same, but that it was only because their technology wasn't as good. I decided to get a second opinion and went to Eye LASIK Austin, who very quickly told me that not only was I NOT a good candidate, but that if I moved forward with having LASIK to 100% correct my eyesight, I'd have irreperable vision issues for the rest of my life. That was horrifying to hear because I was this close to scheduling an appointment for the procedure with Mann Eye. Of course, it's completely up to any individual to do the due diligence to ensure they're making the best medical decision for them, but I do find it frightening that Mann Eye was so enthusiastic about the quality of my candidacy for this surgery. It could have altered my life completely. I don't write this review lightly. I never write reviews on Yelp. But I want to warn anyone with severe eyesight that Mann Eye might tell you that you are a candidate even if you aren't. I highly recommend getting a second opinion. Edit: Followed up per the response below, and the eye doctor reached out and just told us what we told him - that there's recurring epithelial erosion happening (which we already knew after seeing a different optometrist) and also offered to refer my husband to someone to treat the issue (which we had already been doing, and already told him we had been doing.) Didn't apologize for the negligence let alone mention anything about preventing this for future patients. So yeah, watch out for this place, because they apparently consider their negligence and misdiagnosis as just par for the course - seriously, avoid. Original review: The actual lasik went fine, but then just before the month-after followup, my husband was bedridden with eye discomfort. He came in and was told it was an entirely unrelated scratched cornea, though no trauma occurred that would have caused this. He had to just wait out three days in intense pain. Still woke up with recurring symptoms in the morning. Now it's been another month and the symptoms came back. We saw a different optometrist as we needed an immediate appointment close by due to the intense discomfort, and it turns out my husband now has recurrent corneal erosion caused by the lasik. This was not a complication we were warned of, and was misdiagnosed as a scratched cornea by mann eye on his follow-up. Now my husband is bedridden for the second time in two months in intense discomfort and pain, due to Mann Eye's negligence. If you manage to make it through recovery without complications, this place is probably fine, but if you need any sort of ongoing care or want reliable information about possible complications, avoid this place. I am outraged at this level of negligence with something as important and irreplaceable as our eyes. read more

From the tips that are given at the front desk, to the prep work done by the tech staff, to surgery team itself, I never once lacked confidence in the professionals attending to my care. Dr. Paul Mann operated on me and took the questions out of my mouth. I typed up a list prior to arriving and at least 90% of my questions were answered before I had a chance to pull my phone out. Nicole, Veronica, and Alex were part of the surgery team and were extremely friendly throughout the entire process. They even guided my girlfriend to a window where she could watch the procedure. I went to Mann Eye institute for a second opinion (consultation) and after my visit with Mann Eye I knew they would be the ones I would like have take care of my procedure. Dr. Beaver has been wonderful from consultation to my after care follow up appointments. Chelsea at the front desk was so sweet and helpful went out of her way to make sure she answered all of our questions. The day of my LASIK you have your natural nerves and Christina's personality and humor made me feel very comfortable and put my mind at ease. I had cataract surgery (standard manual) done on both eyes by Dr. Barker. If I were only evaluating Dr Barker & his skills & personality I would have given 5 stars. Perhaps for the staff I'd have given 5 stars for their politeness and professionalism. But the processes that underly everything at Mann brought them down to 3 stars. I'll start at the beginning. My eye dr recommended Dr Barker. I looked up reviews and decided to use him so I scheduled my appointment at the south office on Via Fortuna. When I scheduled the appointment they suggested that I allow 2-3 hours and bring someone with me because the information could be very overwhelming. I brought my son but it turns out I didn't need him (which wasted his time). After about 2 hours of testing, waiting, testing, waiting, and testing then waiting again, I finally saw Dr Barker. The process was extremely slow and frustrating, and no one prepares you for all of that up front. I spent about 10-15 minutes with Dr Barker, and in that short time he described my options and the surgery. I then had to schedule an appt at the north office (Braker Lane), where they measured my eyes to determine what replacement lenses to use. That visit went fine. They provided me with a bag of things I'd need and after surgery & they sold me two $20 bottles of compounded drops I'd need to use in each eye for four weeks. How to use them was described well and I was told that if I needed more I could just stop by to pick them up. I mentioned that it would be inconvenient to have to drive back north and they said that I could pick some up at the south office. At some point after that someone called to schedule my first surgery. (They typically do surgeries a week apart, but because of the Thanksgiving holiday, I wanted to do them both in the same week.) Dr Barker performs surgery on Tues & Thurs, but he uses 2 different surgery centers. SUGGESTION: It would be worth your while to find out what your insurance will pay at each location. I accidentally found out that there was a $500 difference between what my insurance would pay at one location vs the other! I would never have known that had I not tried to schedule them both in one week; no one at Mann suggested that I check pricing. Because of the cost, I opted to have them both done at the same place a week apart. I was told I would need a driver for the surgery, but that I could drive myself to the follow-up appt the next day if I popped one lens out of my glasses. (They don't do it at Mann, so my son had to take them to my eye dr.) BIG mistake to try to drive to the follow-up. I had to wear my glasses but only look through one eye, and because I was not used to it, I should NOT have been driving. SUGGESTION: have a driver for both the surgery and follow-up visit. Everything went well for both surgeries, both of which were performed at the Specialty Surgery Center on Shoal Creek. I really liked the staff and treatment I received there. Very organized. I had a follow-up appointment with my eye dr a week after 2nd surgery and mentioned that I wish I had Mann had provided more guidance regarding what I could expect as an outcome of my surgeries. It would have allowed me to make a more informed decision on whether to become near-sighted or far-sighted. My ophthalmologist then brought out some cool looking glasses she could put lenses in to give me a sense of what I might be able see both ways. I REALLY wish Mann had done that before the surgery. Although Dr Barker tried to explain, I think the glasses could have provided a much more effective delivery of the information. At the 2nd follow-up with Dr Barker, I was given a pair of loaner glasses so that I'd be able to drive (I chose to be near-sighted with my new lenses because I'd been near-sighted all my life). The loaners were a nice touch and turned out to be a lifesaver. No one had told me it would be about a month after the 2nd surgery before I could get a prescription for new glasses. Here I am writing this 2+ weeks after the 2nd surgery and I needed more drops. I stopped by the Via Fortuna office around 9:30 and the first response I received was "Those are usually sold at our north office, but wait and let me see what I can find out." Next, I was told that "we had some down here but we sold our last bottle last week so you'll need to go north to get some." REALLY? Why isn't there a process in place to ensure that they ALWAYS have some drops available? Why even suggest that your patients will need to drive north? Traffic in Austin is terrible, and although that's not Mann's fault, it seems that they would do what they can to make their patients' lives easier. Someone else came out and said they could have drops there by 11am. I'll be going back this afternoon to spend another $20 on drops. All in all, I don't know whether the process would have been easier with another office, but this process was very frustrating. read more

Had Refractive lens exchange at Mann Eye 2 years ago and have repeatedly informed them my eyes were still blurry. This procedure was an out of pocket costs of $12,000. They kept saying give it more time and my eyes will adjust. Finally after 2 years they say there is scarring from the original surgery and I had to have 2 more procedures. They said the additional costs are not covered by the original one even though they did not inform me of this from the beginning. I had to pay for two more procedures out of pocket. The office manager, Alexandra said they have updated their consent form now but when I had my original procedure it was not included. She was not willing to provide any kind of adjustment at all, not even a measly 5% discount. They are not very communicative and it is really hard to even get a call back. It took me over 3 weeks to get a call. read more

We came in for a visit regarding cataracts. Our regular eye doctor recommended Mann Eye. The entire process is very slow. They are so completely overbooked that it took 2+ hours to get the exact same information our eye doctor gave in 15 minutes. I had my Lasik performed here in December 2006, today its December 2021. I just had my first eye exam since my Lasik procedure in 2006, and happy to report that my vision is holding great. The optometrist that checked me said, "who ever did your Lasik did a clean job, its fantastic." That's high praise from another professional. I feel fortunate to have found a provider that did their job well and took care things. For 15 years I have mentioned at every opportunity that was the best money I have ever spent, especially after wearing glasses for 28 years. read more

I was referred to Manneye for cataract removal (lens replacements; both eyes). My experience had three components: Manneye itself, the ophthalmologists who I met; and the Northwest Surgery Center, a separate operation where the surgery was done. I'll start with the positive. (Spoiler alert, the negative is Manneye.) The Northwest Surgery Center - not part of Manneye - was excellent. Great nursing staff and anesthesiologists. A definite 5. My ophthalmologist was Dr. Barker, a likable and easy person to relate with. Unfortunately, you do not spend much time with him although, when you are with him, he does not rush you. Having lower level (and very much lower pay) technician do the work is one of the ways Manneye works to maximize its profits. Almost all your time is spent with these technicians who follow scripts, work machines, and record numbers. I spent perhaps 20 minutes in total with Dr. Barker (outside the operation). One downer was that Dr. Barker was not available for the second eye followup session that he scheduled, so I could not ask him about that procedure which seemed different from the first. In his place was Dr. Trembly, another easy-to-relate with person ready to share information and knowledge. Unfortunately, since he was not at the operation, he could not answer my questions about it. Nonetheless, I'd give the ophthalmologists a 3. Manneye Institute itself rates 1 or less. Apart from a very pleasant and helpful receptionist, the place is a profit maximizing, liability minimizing operation. Despite having just completed a comprehensive eye evaluation by my referring doctor, I was requireed to go through a "necessary" two-hour evaluation implemented by technicians. This must be paid for out-of-pocket, Manneye claimed, they said Medicare did not cover it. The evaluation itself was quite inferior to the assessment that sent me to Manneye. No technician checked my glasses to see what my correction were or asked me what my eye problems were. At some point in the exam, I was asked to read off letters projected on a wall with both my eyes. I said, "Which set of letters do you want me to read?" The technician was shocked. I explained that I have failed convergence on both axes so I see double. She then made an adjustment that aligned the images horizontally, but not vertically. She asked me again to read the letters, and I asked her again, "Which set?" Of course, none of this assessment was relevant anyway. My problem was cataracts, and they were so obviously problematic that even my primary care physician identified them using no special apparatus. Also, I had already stated that I only wanted the cataracts removed and nothing more. At the end of this "necessary evaluation," Dr. Barker comes in, shines a light in each eye, and confirms that I have cataracts. He begins to explain my options but I quickly repeated that I only wanted the basic lens replacements. He was pleasant and ready to answer any of my questions, but I had none, since I was familiar with the procedure based on my wife having gone through it previously. I was then sent to a closeout meeting with my "refractive surgery counselor" to schedule my procedures. It took us about 15 minutes to finally figure our that she actually was an up-sell marketer promoting the advanced options that would improve my life. I had already told her I just wanted the basic removal. There were, of course, more forms to fill out. My challenge was to figure out which forms were relevant to me as opposed to those extra options that I did not want. After 25 minutes or so, I was able to leave. The actual scheduling of my appointments took 3- to 5-minutes. As as to being my "patient counselor," the one time I reached out to her by email for help in understanding the drops I needed to use, she never responded. Next was the mandatory second "evaluation session" that was also out-of-pocket to the tune of $225 and would take an hour. Your choice to do it or not, but your alternative is to not get the operation. So, I show up for this next "absolutely necessary but not covered by Medicare session." It turned out to be sitting in front of a machine for 5-minutes while a technician went through a checklist and recorded the specification of the lens I would receive. This machine was next to the other machines I already sat in front of on my last visit and could easily have sat in front of then without returning for a $225 special appointment. Even though the question about how Medicare could pay for a surgery that replaced my lens but not for the measurements that determined the lens to be installed occurred to me, I stifled it because I just wanted get the out-of-there. That session ended with another puzzling "counseling event" that basically gave me drops, sun glasses, and a job aid for recording my drops and a list of do's and don'ts for before and after surgery. Manneye's front-end consumed some 15 hours of my time in travel, waiting, and meetings. read more

Had my surgery done yesterday in Austin. Little discomfort once I got home. Even with my eyes closed it felt like I just had something in my eye and it was a little irritating. but once I was able to finally fall asleep and take about a 3 hour nap, everything was perfect. No pain, perfect vision. After a night of sleeping, woke up to perfect results as far as I can tell. About to head to my post op appt, and feel great! Becca, Christina, Alex, Nicole, Dr. Paul Mann and Dr. Patel were great through the entire process and can't thank them enough for everything. P.s. the surgery was quick and painless. The actual making of the flap with the first laser was the worst of it, but all you gotta do is withstand about 15 seconds of pressure on each eye and that's about it. Nothing crazy, just squeeze your stress ball and you'll be fine. Outside of that, no pain whatsoever. The smell of the second laser actually making the corrections Just smells like somethings burning for about 10 seconds, but it's fine. I think its good to know what to expect so wanted to share. Total time was about 6 minutes on the table. My wife who was creeped out by it, even watched the whole thing and videoed it, and said afterward it really wasn't bad....so yeah take that for what you will haha. In all seriousness, if you are hesitant about it, or scared because the thought of something like that touching your eyes freaks you out....I'm telling you it's one of the easiest things you'll ever do. read more

4.5 stars. It seems like most people come here for lasik but they also do routine eye exams/contact fitting. I really enjoyed my experience. Everyone was really professional and friendly. They explained what all of the different tests were and what each of the results implied. They asked if I had considered lasik but didn't try to convince me to do it, which I really appreciated. In terms of dilation they were able to use much lighter drops on me, which was really helpful because I had to go to work directly afterwards. Eye exams are yearly which means you're set for the entire year after one visit. Will definitely keep coming here! Taking off half a point because scheduling an appointment was really hard (you had to do it on the phone during their business hours)-would be much more convenient if you could just schedule online. read more

I was diagnosed with cataracts and was referred to Mann Eye. I had to go though the same testing and changed more for these tests. My insurances isn't paying for anything. I didn't care for Dr.Barker, he didn't even introduce himself or talk to me. He seems too Arrogant and full of himself. First impression. I'm driving in from out of town and sent to their north location, extremely out of my way and an inconvenience just to make a payment which I paid in full, $4643.56 out of pocket! Due to their mis-scheduling for my second eye surgery follow up and attitude. I can't be given next day notice or time TBD to come in. I had family members who rescheduled their work schedule to transport me to and from. I cancel and going to the Barkley Eye Center in Katy, Texas. As for my refund, for doing nothing but dilating my eyes they are keeping $582.36! Nothing but crooks! read more
