I get my annual eye health exam and refraction from Dr. Chun at Eye Site. He makes the process actually enjoyable which is unique, and he is really focused on testing you for refraction (corrective lenses) in a way that ensures the best results without exhausting you. In the past few years my distance vision has declined a lot so getting the annual exams followed by a new pair of glasses or lenses with my updated prescription is key to seeing my best. That process is helped immensely by the optometry store adjacent to the exam area. Just a quick trip across the hall and there's a huge selection of high end designer frames to more budget friendly options. This year I treated myself to a new set of frames and brought in an old pair of rx sunglasses for lens replacement. Bianca was my amazing optometrist this time. Once my mother was called into the back we were greeted by May, who was very helpful and informative to myself and my mother. She had a bright smile. Asked my mom a couple questions and did an eye exam. Quick and painless. Dr. Jones not only took the time to help my mom but he seemed genuinely concerned for her eye pain and was able to make an immediate diagnosis of what was ailing her. I rarely leave reviews, but my experience at Eyesite Sacramento has been extremely disappointing and stressful from beginning to end. 1. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Rude and unprofessional staff. One of the employees, Pat, was very rude during my interaction. She spoke in an abrupt tone, cut me off when I tried to ask questions, and did not give me a chance to clarify anything. I had been going to this location for many years, starting with Dr. Jones for medical issues and Dr. Chun for annual eye exams, with no complaints. But last year, Dr. Chun didn't even bother to dilate my eyes for my annual exam, although I am over 65. I was on the fence as to whether to return this year, but decided to go back. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This year, when I called to schedule an appointment, my call rolled to a voicemail that said they were short-staffed. A full three business days later, they still had not returned my call![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I called again and they picked up, they said they were "very busy."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] At that point, they said they saw I had VSP, and they no longer take that insurance. (As of today, their website still says they DO take VSP.) I told her I also have Medicare and a supplemental policy. She said it would still cost me $50 for an eye exam as a refraction fee, which is not fully covered by Medicare. She also mentioned that they are either in the process of closing their optical department, or have already closed it. So, I don't know what is going on there, or if they are planning to close, but that is the kind of service you can expect if you go. I have seen Dr. Chun for annual eye exams and Dr. Serdahl for specific ophthalmology concerns and both of them seemed very good clinically, but the wait to get an appointment is always a few months. My first interaction with this office via phone was horrible. I called to schedule, they didn't understand what I was calling to schedule, forgot to collect information, cut me off while talking. As I sit in the waiting room, I can hear the same rude tone of conversations with other patients. They have a 1 hr wait time, several people sitting at desks with no courtesy call or offer to reschedule. Hopefully the doctor is worth seeing. I'm now hearing another upset patient at the window trying to reschedule because of the delay and again, service is subpar at best. They are sharing that a doctor forgot to come in which is why they're late. Why not call or text patients to tell them to come in later? Terrible. read more

I did really appreciate the empathy I got from Dr. Serdahl when I originally went in, somewhat of a panic, not being able to see out of one eye with a torn retina, and was quickly examined and referred to Retinal Consultants as an emergency case that day. I visited Eye Site Sacramento yesterday 6/1/23 and was appalled about the miscommunication and inefficiency regarding my care. I waited at least 45mins to see Dr. David Kira. He looked at my old notes in a flash at the computer and stated" You have 20/20 vision" without examining me.That was my reading over 2yrs ago. The assistant who said her name was Pam,took me into the room never took my Blood pressure yet it was written on the After visit Summary that my B/P was 113/71. Pulse 71 Wow!!! I went there because my vision had changed and I was to have cataract surgery in 2022 but I cancelled it because of plan change. With much hesitation, he examined my eyes.He did not do my pressure test in my eye and if he did, he never discussed it with me. I had to beg him for a new prescription even though he stated "Don't create something you don"t have wow.I told him I can't read for my book club. Only then did he send a clinician to do my measurements for a new pair of glasses. The office was overcrowed, no one wash their hands or wear name tags. Dr. Jones performed my cataract removal surgeries on both eyes. No complaint with the R eye; however, on my L eye, he inserted the new lens a little off - not completely centered as the R eye. The result is that every now and then, I'll see the edge of the lens, which is annoying. It's not permanent and the distortion lasts only a second or less, but it's bothersome that Dr. Jones' technique was not up to par. Dr. Jones HAS NO BEDSIDE MANNER whatsoever. He's not warm and responsive, but does answer questions relative only to his work. That's OK with me. I don't need anything more. My biggest complaint about this doctor's office is their day-to-day operations. It is outdated and from the dinosaur era! They have no email, they have no online billing system, and they expect patients to call their office to pay by giving their credit card info over the phone! They are so outdated they don't even have a check-in system where a patient can pay their co-pay the day of their appointment. They way they billed me for my last visit was to send me a message on My Chart! There is no way this practice can claim not to have any money -- Dr. Jones is booked clearly up to 6 months in advance, so yes, they do have incoming business for which they charge extremely high rates! We've gone here for several years and had good service. Today was the first time I visited since COVID began. I did not receive a phone call for screening. When I arrived, my temp was not taken and they didn't ask me about symptoms or possible exposure. Their waiting room had 6-8 people in it. I sat in the little separate foyer next to the door. When the nurse called me back, I asked her about screening and COVID protocols and was told they usually ask by phone. I said I didn't get a phone call. She changed the subject. I'm stunned. I was referred to Dr Richard Jones Eye Site by Dr M. Patel of Schermer's Eye Associates for cataract surgery. These offices worked very well together coordinating the surgery and follow up visits. Both explained the options available - standard or laser. After an examination, it was determined I would be a candidate for laser surgery which cost an additional $1200 per eye. Everyone in this office, Capital City Surgery Center and Shermer's Eye Associates provided exceptional care and a smooth processing to my clear eyesight. I just wish that I had not had to wait 3 months for the surgery, and 6 weeks for my second eye. Roll on October 28. I cannot believe what a difference this has made to my right eye vision. I had a "incomplete stye" on my inner left eye lid. The stye became hard "like a tiny rock" and it was scratching my cornea causing a lot of pain, tearing and inflammation. I found Eye Site Sacramento office through yelp because it had a great rating plus they open at 8:30am (I needed to see a professional right away). Since I was in so much pain, I figured I will walk-in at 8:30am and see if they can squeeze me in. Well, Susan at the front desk was very pleasant and she was able to fit me in between their busy schedule (as I see patient walking in one by one). I saw Dr. Serdahl. He was very comforting and gentle since it was a very sensitive eye area. He got rid of the "tiny rock" in my inner eye lid as quickly and as painlessly as he can. I felt so relief!!! Checked in, completed the paper work by 9:15, and took my seat as asked. 9:30 patient arrives and goes back and comes out, 9:45 patient arrives, goes back and comes out, 10:00 patient checks in, goes back, 10:15 patient checks in, goes back, etc. At 10:15, I get up and go to the reception area, and ask the two women working the reception area if , "I may have been forgotten, or is this standard practice"? They gave me a annoyed, how dare you, facial expression, and said that they would call me back soon. Five minutes later, one of the two women came out and asked, "Sir, what is your name again?" Another five minutes, a new person calls me back to do measuring. My visit with the doctor who seemed nice and attentive went as expected. No oops, or sorry from the staff. Over the last five years (or more, probably more), I've been losing my peripheral vision. Two optometrists referred me to two ophthalmologists and no one knew the cause. The second ophthalmologist told me there was no physical cause and it would get better in three months, implying it was in my head. After that I gave up for a couple years. This year, my physician referred me to a neurologist, who wanted me to see one more ophthalmologist before getting a spinal tap and another MRI. She sent me here, to Eye Site. Dr. Serdahl preliminarily diagnosed me with retinitis pigmentosa within five minutes and I'm now being referred to a retinal specialist. I recommend Dr. Serdahl to anyone needing eye care. read more
