The doctor was great, but the rest of the staff seemed completely disorganized. After my eye exam, I was told to pick out a pair of glasses. I did, but no one helped me choose a frame or even measured me for the glasses. They simply said they would order them and call me in 7-10 days. They never called--I had to contact them myself to find out if they had arrived. When I finally picked them up, the frames were way too big and kept sliding down my nose. An employee tried to adjust them, but it didn't help. Instead of addressing the fit, they tried to sell me an upgrade to thinner lenses for around $175. I told them I didn't need thinner lenses--I needed glasses that actually fit. After speaking with management, they eventually agreed to let me exchange the frames. I went back, but there weren't many options available, so I had to return a few weeks later. When I finally found another pair, they tried to charge me over $100 for the exchange. The original frames were $130, and the new ones were $150, so the difference should have been only $20. After another discussion, they corrected the charge. Several weeks later, the replacement glasses arrived. I tried to pick them up on two different Saturdays, but no one was there either time. I eventually had to take time off work to pick them up. The new glasses fit perfectly, and before I left I specifically asked if I owed anything else. I was told, "No, you're all set." Then I received a bill for $25. When I questioned it--especially after all the problems I'd experienced and being told my balance was paid--they sent the account to collections. Seriously? Over $25? If I could give a zero stars, I would. This place is awful. Unfortunately it's their front office and billing that makes them awful. They do not listen. They bill things the way they want to bill them. When I have two eye insurance plans, I know how to use them to get the most I can. I just went to pick up contacts ($300 allowance) they billed the other insurance instead of how I asked them to when the contacts were ordered. Which was $150 allowance for contacts. Either the communication amongst staff is horrible and they do not relay information well, or they are just not very smart. I'm not sure which it is. But I have stopped going there myself and went to Premier eye care on Hatcher lane and they are fantastic! They actually know how to work with both insurance plans to get the most for your $$$. So first off my fiance called here 8 times today trying to get a copy of my step sons prescription. 8 times and left multiple voicemails. The first time they answered and texted her the numbers off the prescription we can't use that to buy glasses we need the actual prescription. I should have checked reviews before I made my appointment. I needed an exam for nothing but a new prescription. Have had significant eye procedures with an ophthalmologist. My appt was at 9am, the opening time of the store. I wish someone would have told me that instead of my standing at the door for 10 minutes. The exam tech took me into a room and first question was paying another $49 for a full exam, which i was clear i did not need. She did not explain what she was doing at any point in time. The first machine tested my eye pressure, so a shot of air at my eyes. Totally unexpected and irritating. No advance warning. This lady was going through the motions and was harsh. Not patient oriented; I was ready to walk out. The optometrist was nice enough, but when I stated I did not like the exam tech, she just looked at me and continued. Zero interest as to why I was unhappy. Then she had to look at the back of my eyes, which I again stated I did not need. She said she needed it for my file. No accommodation as to my request. Had my first appointment for eye care today, was a bit nervous, because well, I knew my eyes had become haunted with Elvis and had left the building. BUT, nothing prepared me for the mortal combat fatality that was dropped on me. My nurses were polite, professional and all deserve raises. My doctor, was Dr. Melanie (I'm 100% positive, I spelled that wrong,) nonetheless, Dr. T had to deliver some tough news, that my eyes had completely quit and weren't coming back, told me I was no longer legally allowed to drive, and he was sure, I had possibly a TIA (mini-stroke.) Definitely not my first est moment, I started crying of course, because well now my dreams of ever owning an ice cream truck were over and at the tender age of 47. F**k this body and f**k this brain. Anywho, Dr. T was super sweet about it, definitely wasn't happy himself that he had to give the news, but he was super sweet and amazingly professional. Referred me to neuro ophthalmologist and sent me on my way. Picked some really cute frames, for trying to read up close and headed out. I have updated my phone number six times and they are still trying to reach an old phone number. When I called to resolve the issue the office staff hung up three different times. WARNING! Front desk customer service is terrible. We were told the glasses my kid and I picked were free because of insurance. Once ready, we picked them up and were charged. When we asked to speak to someone higher than manager we were told there wasn't anyone. The ONLY reason we picked those particular glasses was because we were told they were FREE. We were told the girl who helped us was new, but why do I have to pay, literally, for her mistake. Makes no sense. It's not just about the money, but the principle. I do not recommend this place. Poor service. Went to pick up new glasses and there were black markings still on glasses from measurements. When I asked the tech about them, she said "it should come off with soap and water". When I got home it did NOT come off easily, nor with soap and water. I had to use alcohol and rub with excessive pressure to remove them. Shouldn't she have cleaned them when I asked about them? There were 4 staff member in the reception area and they were not busy????? It would have taken no time for them to clean the lens and I'm not sure that alcohol was the appropriate cleansing agent for glasses to remove the sharpie marks. I will not be back. My first attempt to pick up my lenses for my glasses was on a Tuesday. The front desk lady asked for my glasses and then came out with what I am assuming was the manager who preceded to tell me that the lenses were not the right shape for my frames that there must of been a mistake and they would put a rush on the order (I had already waited 2 weeks) On Friday I received an email from eyecare plus saying my lenses were ready for pick up. I live in Petersburg and work in Lewisburg it is a distance for me to go but have been going there for 15 years and never that much of a problem so I kept going back anyways I get there in the morning on Saturday after working a 12 hour shift only to be told in fact they were not there and receptionist had no idea why I was sent an email. DO NOT USE THEM!!!! They are rude. Screwed up my glasses order. Order me the wrong glasses and instead of them sending them back they put my lenses on the frames that were on the wall that everyone tries on and can't use those frames as they are warped. Doctor was good but once ordered glasses they said 10 day took over a month. Noone would answer the phone and once they did I was put on hold for 45 minutes to a hour and then hung up on. This place is a scam. If I could, I'd give this place half a star, or none. Apparently they need 4 weeks for 1 pair of glasses instead of the regular 2. Not only this, but they don't give you a real receipt until they decide to charge you for something that wasn't added to your total, so they send an itemized bill through the mail. It's difficult to read and understand. Even with insurance (I also had a little leeway for an eye health exam and nice frames) I paid over $500 for mine. I was left on hold for nearly 20 minutes when I tried to check on my glasses. When I hung up to call again, they immediately knew it was me and gave me an awful excuse that my glasses would take even longer because "the lab sent scratched lenses." So they supposedly had to resend them. Every thing is so expensive here-- literally just get your prescription and buy your frames online. Warby Parker's is usually only $200. They charged me $25 fee for missing an appt. I had a family emergency. Paid it and understood that they see that as me not valuing there time. Today I had an appointment at 9:10. Waited 30 min and was told 3 people were ahead of me and they were very behind. I have one day off and they didn't mind not valuing my time. My husband and I will not be going back. Dr. Mallory is great but, there are plenty other places that will get to us at our appointment times. I was told by the receptionist that I wouldn't be charged $25 for walking out today. Last year after my appointment I received a call telling me my glasses were ready and I could come to get them. my old glasses were broken so I really needed them. I left work and drove 40 min to the eye care plus only to find them in the office with the doors locked having their Chrismas party in the middle of the day and would not let me get my glasses even tho they had just called me and told me to come to get them. This year I go in for my appointment and after waiting over 30 minutes past my appointment time, they tell me my insurance is inactive or has been canceled. I called my insurance company after I left and the representative tells me that my insurance is fine and I am covered. They called eyecare plus for me to find out what the problem was and the girl was putting in the same ID number for both me and my wife instead of using both of the cards we gave her. We were in from out of town when my husband started experiencing floaters and flashes of light. I called that morning and they got us right in. The staff and the doctor were excellent. The doctor took a lot of time looking at his eye and explaining to us the diagnosis. Luckily, it wasn't anything major. Very bad experience. Took me four and a half weeks to get my glasses. I ordered transition lenses one lense transitioned and stayed that way the other lense no transition. They reordered my lenses picked them up two days later the glasses fell apart. Called to talk to manager was told she was not in but she would call me back never heard from anyone. read more

I thought they were going overboard and then when I got the bills (yes three so far) I can say they are money hungry. Once they see you have insurance, they milk it and insurance doesn't pay, so they just bill you. I got hit 4 times for ocular photos. They took pictures of my eye lashes, then said come back in two weeks and took pictures again. All pictures were on an iPad. Really, $50 for each picture of my eye lashes. $200 for iPad pictures of my eye lashes? Then they tried to up-sale lenses. Oh, we can give you High Def lenses, you know, like HDTV. Really. First let me say the staff was VERY nice.. but their procedures and rules and prices are horrid !! I have never paid almost $400 for a eye exam and contact prescription!! And the rules... I am about to make my 6th trip up (a one hr drive round trip) to hopefully get my final contact and script... it was a very frustrating experience. Save time and money and find a established dr. My last one was at Costco and I only spent $90. And on top of all this- my husband's eye glasses have writing inside the actual lens, which he can see when he looks thru them. Thank goodness after talking to the manager he is getting a refund. I think this must be a corporate thing...It surprises me how they stay in business with their prices. But a part of me can't help but wonder if it's cuz I had some insurance. read more

Unless you enjoy wasting your money, drive down the road to Pearle Vision. I visited this location back in October for what I thought would be a routine eye exam. I presented my vision insurance card and filled out the necessary paperwork for a new patient visit, but was then asked for my medical insurance card (SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE FIRST RED FLAG). I was then brought into the back to begin testing for everything short of a prostate issue. I have never had problems with my eyes (other than being nearsighted), but after this visit, I am told that I have a slight astigmatism in one eye, and the pressure behind my eyes is slightly elevated. Get a trial pair of lenses, and finally, after the plethora of tests are finished, I go to check out where I pay my copay. However, I am told that I also owe $15 more than my max out of pocket "fitment fee" on the contacts. No huge deal, right? Then, I am told that I need to come back in a week to see how things are going with the new lenses. I do so, and am then subjected to several more tests. Upon leaving this time, I ask about what point we will order my lenses. The lady that handles this task goes in the back to speak to the doctor. She comes back and says that I'm released on the lenses I was given as a trial. So we order a six month supply at this point. Approximately 6 weeks go by without a word from them. I call to ask when my lenses will arrive, and am told that she'd have to check. She comes back and says "Oh, they're here, but you owe some money on them." I say, Ok, how much?, and she says, "Uh, I don't know, but you owe something..." Professionalism at its best... "Uh, you owe $20 on them." I tell her my wife will pick them up since she works in Columbia. Contacts fit fine. I get home two days ago and upon checking the mail, I receive my first bill of $491 for an eye exam, which also shows that I am in the "91 - 120 days" status...I have been wearing corrective lenses for 20+ years and am stunned at the service that I received at this location. read more

Please if you want to save yourself the frustration please go to another place for your eye care needs. I have been using this place for almost 2 years now and I have now cancelled all appointments and everything with them and will be going to another eye care place. Not only did they give my child the wrong prescription in which caused more issues with my daughters eyes but then wouldn't even take responsibility for their mess up and tried to put the blame on Vanderbilt saying they wrote the prescription wrong. Finally after that was resolved.. the same child needed a new pair of lenses which I had placed an order for in which I checked wit h3 different people that work there and they said they were ordered. About a week later I had to call back because the dog had got ahold of her old pair so she needed new frames. I was expecting her lenses to be done so we could just easily put them in new frames but come to find out they were never ordered. Judy told me that she needed another eye exam, I asked her why I was not informed the 3 times I asked someone about the order she then began to blame that they have new people on the floor. Little did she know I had spoken to 2 seasoned individuals who had been there for years. After all that I told her to just make her another pair with the old prescription since they wouldn't warranty the new prescription. I was told the frames would come from their Hendersonville location to the Columbia location and it wouldn't take long at all. I called back about a week later to find out where my daughters glasses were. I was told that her lenses were in however they are still waiting for the lenses. Bare in mind that this is a little over an hour away from Columbia. So I asked why it is taking so long to get lenses from their other location. I was met again with a excuse that it was the fault of UPS. I am a very understanding person and understand issues and accidents arise. However this is too much and is not acceptable. This is very upsetting to me as I had loved this eye care place for so long but it just has gone so far down hill I will take my business to another provider. read more
