I was previously a patient of this optometrist in 2017. My first visit with them was uneventful and…read morewent ok, aside from the old lady receptionist who had an attitude. It was easy enough to ignore her the first time. My second experience with them is a completely different story. I was treated like garbage and I was hung up on twice. I returned in 2018 to renew my prescription and glasses. Upon making an appointment, this optometrist claimed authorization over my insurance before I even had a visit with them. They are not allowed to claim authorization over your insurance until you actually visit them, have an eye exam, and place an order for glasses. Do you see where this is going? Here's what happened... Work obligations forced me to reschedule my appointment. I told them I'd have to call back to reschedule a new appointment when I get my upcoming work schedule. The receptionist (same lady as last year with an attitude) dropped the ball and never canceled the appointment. ....In the meantime I found a different optometrist whose hours and location were better able to accommodate me. As a consumer I have a right to choose whichever business is better able to accommodate me. So while I was visiting the new optometrist is when I learned the hard way that Opti-Rx took a short cut and claimed authorization over my insurance without ever rendering me any services or even seeing me. How embarrassing it was to have my new optometrist tell me they couldn't move forward with my exam and my glasses because the previous optometrist I visited had my insurance on hold even though I hadn't even seen them. So I call Opti-Rx to have them release my insurance. These jackwipes actually gave me an attitude because I chose a different optometrist. When I asked them to release authorization over my insurance the receptionist said, "I'll see what I can do" I said, "Excuse me? You WILL release my authorization, right? I'm standing here at the new optometrist waiting for it to be released." She said, "Whenever I can get into the system." and she hung up on me. I called back and spoke with Dr. Berger himself. He proceeded to argue with me that because I made an appointment with them so they were justified in holding authorization over my insurance. I said, "We never settled on an appointment. Your receptionist dropped the ball and failed to update the computer when I called to reschedule. You shouldn't be meddling with my insurance." He washed his hands and said, "I'm gonna hand you back to the receptionist to deal with this." He hands me back to the receptionist and she says, "I already dealt with the authorization. It's done." I was in the middle of saying "Alright, thank you" and she hung up on me again. Moral of the story: This company uses shady practices. They have a tendency for taking shortcuts, and their customer interaction with me was incredibly rude. I can not, and will not recommend this optometrist to others.

I was even able to examine the basics of my records to see the progression of my change in vision. You need to let them know your usage: driving, TV, computer, smartphone or reading. I have also been pleased with the customer service as it relates to scheduling appointments, making payments, using insurance. There are a variety of frames to choose from, some I don't like and others have been perfect. I learned that when choosing frames consider your activity level, so you don't get glasses that are too fragile. Some parts are easily replaced, more fragile frames may require purchasing a whole frame. I have tried contacts, but they are not for me. The process was fairly easy at the time. If you choose contacts, consider your home or work environment. If you are exposed to lots of dust, pollen or smoke - forget about getting contacts. Every time I have been to Eye Openers, I have had a pleasant, professional experience.

His office staff, however, left me wondering why they all seemed indifferent and detached, not friendly or empathetic. My second visit answered all my questions. It seems Dr. Bruno has a temper which he can't control. He fosters an environment of hostility. His "assistant" slammed a clipboard on the desk when I made a complaint and his "front desk secretary" heckled me as I was leaving the office. I also witnessed this same secretary being rude to an elderly patient. Now I understand the meaning of the trickle down theory. Shame on you Dr. Bruno and your rude staff.

We both felt that I was in good hands. The reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is that this practice is so spread out. While this is no fault of Dr. Kasturi's or the staff in Vineland, it can and does make things rather unwieldy. When it came to securing authorization for a CT scan, our insurance sent us notice they needed more info from the practice but when we called the person (in the practice who was supposed to be handling this we got voice mail every time, with no return phone calls - we made at least half a dozen attempts. This was quite frustrating for us and we had the feeling no one was minding the store.

His visits to the rehab were POWERFUL as he politely reminded staff of their responsibilities to follow his medical instructions after i told him they were a bit less than efficient. It was an extremely stressful time. Even with my own medical background I was sinking emotionally n physically doing all I could. He was friendly, compassionate... talked to my husband bout military n made him feel better. Saved his sight. It's been over 2 yrs... I am just now at a point in my life where I am reflecting and dealing with all that happened. .I need to thank those who did a great job...
