I stopped by Eyeglass Maxx on my way to Target and talked with Virginia and left my glasses for 30 minutes and shopped at Target.

I have VSP for me and my husband (who is also on Medicare but no vision insurance. This becomes relevant later on.) My exam was fine, dr was nice and they told me I had the start of a cataract that just needed to be monitored. I pay for the $39 retina scan not covered by insurance that I agreed to. Fast forward to this week and my husband (who has Medicare Part G and is on MY vision insurance) has his exam with the $39 retina scan. He and the dr talked about his dry eyes (that he DOES NOT take any meds for other than OTC stuff). She said she could write a prescription if he wanted her to and he declined. She said he had the start of a cataract and that it needed to be monitored (sound familiar?). Said "he did not need a lens prescription, just use readers". Same exam, same diagnosis as mine. His vision is better than mine as a matter of fact. He gets to the front desk, and they charge him the $39 and then proceeds to tell him he owes $220 because the exam became MEDICAL?!?! Where did it become medical on his when mine wasn't? He argued but finally just gave his debit card to pay (#1 mistake. I would have walked out and said bill me!). They KNEW he had the G plan, so they will be committing Medicare fraud by billing them AND receiving pay from us. I will be filing a complaint on that. Julie didn't bother to return my call, so I had to call them again just to listen to her lie to me again. "He has SEVERE dry eye syndrome (no he doesn't, he rarely uses eye drops anymore), he had a "freckle" in his eye (so what?), he has a cataract that impedes his vision (no he doesn't and if he did why did the dr say he didn't need a prescription or refer him to an ophthalmologist?) They are unscrupulous and I would not do business with them ever again. I will be posting to all social media sites as well and will contact the BBB along with Medicare. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY AND DO NOT USE THEM!

My wife and I have been customers of this location for about 5 years. We've had our eye exams done…read morethere, and we've bought numerous pairs of glasses from that store. After I had the 2nd cataract surgery and obtained a new prescription, I took 2 pairs of my glasses to have the lens replaced. This store had replaced the lens in these 2 pairs in 2023. One pair doesn't have a frame. One of the arms had become detached. I asked the woman who was helping me if the arm could be reattached, and if they could replace the lenses with the new script as they did last year. She had to consult with her manager. After 5 or so minutes, the manager came out from the back with the woman who was helping me and told me that the arms for the glasses were different. I said her store was the one that changed the lenses last year, so if the arms are different, they did it (no one said anything about different arms in 2023). She adopted a hostile attitude and began arguing with me. She then said that the lab wouldn't change the lenses. I reminded her that they changed them last year with no issue. In an unpleasant, raised and brash voice she told me: "They don't do it this year." End of story. I've moved on the Costco. For a manager with, according to her, 25 years of working for the company, she clearly isn't the type of person I'd want working with the public. Bad attitude.

They have a new form that needed to be filled out which I did a few days ago. I gave the girl the form when I arrived and started looking at glasses while waiting to see the Optometrist. In a few moments the girl I gave the form to informed me that I forgot to sign and date part of the form that gives a consent that 'if I where a new patient' they would dilate my eyes. I told her I didn't 'forget' to sign and I wasn't a new patient and didn't want my eyes dilated, just a vision check and new prescription glasses. The girl said I needed to sign the form and i refused. That's when the manager got involved. She was the nastiest, snottiest person I think I've ever dealt with. It's my choice if I want my eyes dilated or not. I was also taken back by the fact that this place had the nerve to require my Social Security number on the form. Now what on gods earth do they need my SS# for??? I don't want my number in they're database or files. It's nobodies business but my own!!! I have found a new eyeglass store already and look forward to doing business with someone that cares and is respectful!!

I got…read morea MASSIVE infection and they just let it go. 36 hours after my last procedure, a vitrectomy, I noticed my left eye getting cloudy. I was obviously alarmed as it was a Saturday just after noon and they were closed, but I called the answering service and they got a Dr on the phone. She was not concerned with the clouding at all but asked about pain. I had no pain at the time. She wanted me to come in Monday. My eye continued to rapidly deteriorate through the day and I could hardly see. I called back on Saturday evening and I talked to the same Dr. Once again she only wanted to know about pain. I had none. She once again dismissed my concerns. I say she is incompetent because I now know that what I was seeing was the puss clouding my eye! At 2:30 in the morning I woke up with the worst pain in my eye and I couldn't see anything but gray. That is the puss that they have allowed to grow inside my eye. I called the answering service. I was told "We aren't allowed to wake the Dr's. up between 10 and 6 unless it's an emergency." I told her I thought this was and she said I should go to the Emergency Room! I called back at 6 am and I was finally treated on Sunday. As a side note, this policy totally shocked the 2 other Eye specialist companies I have been to see. If they deny this, they are lying. In the attached photo you can see the infection coming around onto my iris. The small crescent at the bottom, highlighted with the line. I was lied to that all of my treatment for the infection would be covered by them and they billed Medicare and my insurance. This went all the way up to the corporate level by the way. I consider this fraud. If a Dr says "no charge" it's no charge. I am STILL getting bills! I was told I would make a full recovery, "just give it a few more weeks". My eye stopped improving after a few months and my Dr said he wanted to see me in 4 weeks. I found out the next day that he was leaving The Eye Associates 3 days after he said that. They had me using steroid drops 4 times a day that were not doing anything beneficial at all. I got a second and third opinion. The second was "horrified" who sent me to the third. It took 6 months to find out that the infection had left scarring on my retna. Although I can't say The Eye Associates did anything to cause my infection, I am positive they neglected my care and they are responsible for my vision loss. My current specialist has done an amazing job in getting me the partial vision I have. I would not let The Eye Associates clean sleepers out of my dogs eyes. Kevin Devoy
