We arrive at Minarets Pack Station with all our gear the day before our hike in. Mikki has an amazing dinner prepared for us. This year it was massive ribeye steaks. So good! We enjoy a lovely meal in the big house together giddy with anticipation about our camping trip. Afterwards we retire to one of the pack stations super comfortable glamping tents for the night. We sleep like babies on super comfortable warm beds. We wake up bright and early and put our gear on the mule loading dock. Mikki provides us with a wonderful huge breakfast and we set off to hike in to our chosen lake. The mules bring our gear up which arrives a little after we do and we live like kings on our own private lake for a week or two. It is absolute heaven. I cant say enough about Mikki and Tracy they are so kind and welcoming. The atmosphere at the pack station is lovely, with a beautiful green pasture surrounded by fir trees. The food and accommodations are over the top. Staying the first night at the station is 1000 times better than a crappy motel in sweaty Oakhurst

It was our first time camping with a teardrop, so mostly we were wanting to see how it worked. The trailer is easy to tow and works really well. But this review is about the business. Mike is excellent - friendly, professional, and helpful. Payment was handled easily with a credit card. I paid to have the trailer delivered to my home, where Mike went over all the details about equipment and features. It was well-supplied, with bedding, kitchen goods, stove fuel, LED lantern, even chairs and an extra table, and a EZ-Up Pop-up shade. The equipment is well maintained, and aside from a couple little need-to-know details, works nicely. Also, after I had the trailer, I had a couple questions for Mike. I texted him and he responded immediately, which was great. We're looking forward to renting again in the future.

Toilets were great they have flushing ones by group site !! But other than that it was a decent campsite !!

Situated right across the street from the lake and perpendicular to Billy Creek, the beauty of Huntington Lake completely surrounds you. Potable water was accessible from everywhere in the campground. We saw deer every single day we were here. We stayed in site 10 with a small travel trailer and two children and it was super easy to get in and out of. We will be back!

The campsites at this campground were extremely small. And clearly not well kept with garbage lying…read morein the surrounding areas. We were literally a tissue toss from our neighbors. Furthermore, our site had an uneven and rotten picnic table, and the fire-pit was nearly full with ash and sand which I had to clean out. It was also disappointing to encounter a staff member, specifically an older, larger Hispanic woman, who had an issue with authority. At one point during our stay, I returned to the site after my baby had been throwing up to grab some things for his stomach. I was driving around a corner at approximately 10 miles per hour (yes, I know, 5 mph over the posted speed limit), when this staff member came flying around the corner in the middle of the road, causing her to swerve and nearly hit me, with my child in the car. Rather than accepting that we were both going a little too fast, she threatened to kick me off the grounds and chewed me out for speeding while she herself was disregarding their own rules. Overall, paying $43 a night during the slow season, with no complementary services and having to clean up the site before we could even set up, made the experience very disappointing. I think paying the extra $5 for a nearby campground that offers firewood, kind staff, and a clean, well-kept site would be much more worth it. 2 stars for at least having a nice bathroom. Summary of frustration: The cramped site layout, poor maintenance, and staff's poor handling of a stressful situation made the experience feel far below expectations, especially for the price. The lack of amenities and cleanliness only added to the frustration.

My husband and I made a recent trip to Lake Huntington and stayed at Catavee Campground at Campsite…read more#19 which was opening weekend (Memorial Day wknd end of May). We were mostly snowed in as the snowmelt had not completely gone away from winter but the picnic table, fire pit and most of an area for our tent were clear. And just enough of our driveway for our vehicle to fit. Then one of the park folks camp with a snowplow came to clear the remaining driveway the second morning we were there which was great. This site was incredible. The best features are that it is wide, so it is great for groups I would think. Multiple landings for tents available. We loved that it was shaded and bumped up against the stream/brook which vented out to peekaboo views of the lake. Campsite #21 right next door had direct views of the lake but also lent to more road traffic. Our site was very quiet. Mostly level ground. Definitely call ahead to check the weather and campsite status. We might not have gone had we known there was so much snow on the ground, but we made the best of it. Our camp host Bob was great and lent us a shovel the first night. Several park folks checked on us throughout the wknd. The bathrooms were also great. Flushable toilets. Very clean and well kept with tissue stocked throughout the weekend. My recommendations would be to bring a pop up solar shower since your only option in this area otherwise is the RV site in town for $5 per person which is completely disgusting. 6in of standing water with freezing cold water. Not worth it. Maybe also bring your own wash basins or something for dishwashing as there are no wash sinks nearby. Only a spicket at site #19 where you should not wash your dishes as it can clog the drain and attract bears and other critters. We did not see or hear any wildlife the entire time we were there. We brought our 22lb corgi daschund dog/love of our life and felt comfortable the whole time with her on a tie down stake. Definitely will go back and recommend this site to others!!

Wow! If you have yet to experience the beauty of Huntington Lake, then you are in luck! This past…read moreweekend my wife and I along with several family members of mine, booked a last minute camping trip to Catavee! We were all so happy with the experience. Here are a few things worth mentioning... #1: Sites 13 & 24 are two of the BEST sites at this small campground. If you are going with a group, these are the 2 you want to go for. 24 is nicer than 13 but each of these are on the same loop but back up to each other. As the pictures below show (hoping I can upload the ones we have) you are surrounded by lush forestry throughout your campsite. Luckily, you still feel like you can breathe even with the many trees. These two sites are also close enough to the water spout and the CLEAN restrooms! A small parking lot is also near these two sites as well. Keep in mind that this campground is very small, so really you are close enough to the ONE restroom facility at the camp no matter where you stay. #2: There are no showers in the Huntington Lake area. Luckily for us, a family member brought up a trailer but no one really worried about showering since we were only camping a few days. #3: During the weekdays, you will probably be the ONLY ones at this campsite. This was a huge bonus. During the weekend, just about every site was full which was totally fine because you are in good distance for proper privacy from other campsites. We stayed from Sat-Tues and the last couple days were very nice yet eerie as we were the only ones in the entire campground. Definitely gave us the seclusion and mountain experience we were hoping for! Very nice peaceful break! #4: The Lake is very close to camp. (Walking distance!) But, There are about 5-10 other campgrounds in the area. Keep this in mind when you are deciding. Best thing to do is call the campground registration office! They are very very helpful! They will help you make your selection on the campground that will be best for you. One other campsite that was literally sitting on the lake that we walked through was Deer Creek, and College Campground. If we go back, which we WILL, we will probably try one of these two campgrounds even though Catavee was perfect for us. #5: Rancheria Falls-probably one of the highlights of our trip. We drove our Chevy Tahoe all the way up the dirt road (don't worry, its bumpy but even small cars can make it up), parked, and headed onto the hike. This is a beautiful and very EASY hike to do with the whole family! We had our 3 year old son, and 13 month old daughter who was worn on the back and did it with no problem. BE ADVISED-it gets cliffy as you make your way to the falls. We did not let go of our son and kept him on the hillside of the trail. We hear of too many accidents when families go on hikes, so be very careful. Also-perfect trail to pack a lunch and eat somewhere on the way. There were only a few others doing the hike that we happened to walk past. It is beautiful and was definitely a highlight for us! It was 1 hour total round trip tops. #6: There are no bears that come through the campsites in the Huntington Lake area. This was very important for being my wife's first camping trip. She slept well at night! :)

Overall, they do a great job with the cleanliness! It's hit or miss with "mom and pop" type places, but the floors, bathroom, and bedding were all fresh! A few suggestions as far as the kitchen and appliances go... If it wasn't available for use, I wouldn't have known any better, but since it was there, it's like come on do a better job. Clean the ashes out of the weber. The open box of pancake mix, ew. The random assortment of coffee packs that appear to have been left by other cabin users, with no expiration date, not the best. Also, if you're going to have a salt shaker... make sure it's full. Like I said, if these items weren't available I wouldn't have assumed they should be. But since you guys put them in there, do a better job at keeping it stocked and maybe consider better quality stuff. It doesn't cost much to put foil, tongs, coffee, and a legitimate salt and pepper grinder in the kitchen. If you really wanna step it up, a 20.00 pack of silverware from target instead of the hodgepodge of forks in the drawer would have been killer. That's why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5. Overall, if that small stuff is the biggest "issue" than this place is still pretty awesome!! Waking up to a few feet of snow in a cute little cabin, popping a bottle for a mimosa, and enjoying the mountain air.. Not bad! Would definitely recommended staying here, and I would for sure rebook. I'd just bring my own kitchen stuff like for camping next time.

The new owners are reshaping and rebuilding these traditional cabins located in downtown Shaver lake. I stayed in one of the nicest well kept cabins that offered a single Queen bed, roomie bathroom with a wonderfully high shower head( I'm 6'2") and a nice kitchenette. Flat screen TV with local cable. One of the nicest and welcomed amenity was the gas fireplace that was crackling when we entered the room. These cabins are located close to all of the local restaurants and bars with easy walking access to the whole village. I will be making future plans to staying with the knotty pines in the future. I was also told to look forward to a new reservation website and friendlier staff. Thanks again Knotty Pines Cabins of Shaver Lake.
