Recently they hired a new tech that has been telling me I need to make an appointment. So I called during the week and was told they never set appointments and "It's first come first serve". It's always been that. I went back again and the tech refused to serve me without an appointment. So I called again. I was told again "first come first serve". So I went back and the tech said no. He said my car takes 45 minutes and Honda and Toyotas only take 15 minutes so her doesn't want to do my car. So I try a third time and he tells me I'm hostile and won't accept my appointment. I am not hostile. Especially if someone is going to put hands on my cars. I will repeat my statement to the tech. A customer should not have to worry how long one vehicle takes over an other. Six days a week the other tech says they have always been first come first serve and customers should be able to expect consistent service. When i asked for the managers name is when the new tech said I was hostile. I called the other Smog Queen locations and they also said, "FIRST COME FIRST SERVE!" It's too bad this tech will lose a VERY LONG term customer I also check the other location and they confirmed they do not make appointments.

They were initially recommended to me by a AAA tech who helped me out with my car battery. I went to their Santa Clara location and their mechanic was out for the day because of an emergency, so I said no problem and went back the next day. I received good, honestly priced and quick service that time, so I didn't hold it against them and went back a second time a couple months later to get my car smogged. Firstly, their Santa Clara location doesn't do STAR smogs, so my bad - although it's in the name. They told me to go up to the Sunnyvale location so I did, where I was told the tech left for lunch or something and would be back in an hour. Since I was already there and it wasn't too far from a dry place to sit as it was raining that day, I left the car with them and went somewhere else to wait. Overall as good of an experience for a smog test as I could ask for. Parking The intangibles for me are parking. There are a few spots to the side though they may not be needed. If you call ahead, he does a good job spreading things out. Layout The other thing is flow. The gas pumps aren't too far from where you go to do the smog check, so if someone is at a certain pump, it's slightly more complicated. You just pull up and he'll bring it around so the angle is right. Fortunately I arrived when no one was at the pumps, so I pulled in straight. I don't know the going rate anywhere else but for me, it was totally worth the value in saved time.
