I honestly wanted to like these guys and have them be my regular mechanics, but I've been burned by them one too many times. They were initially recommended to me by a AAA tech who helped me out with my car battery. I went to their Santa Clara location and their mechanic was out for the day because of an emergency, so I said no problem and went back the next day. I received good, honestly priced and quick service that time, so I didn't hold it against them and went back a second time a couple months later to get my car smogged. Firstly, their Santa Clara location doesn't do STAR smogs, so my bad - although it's in the name. They told me to go up to the Sunnyvale location so I did, where I was told the tech left for lunch or something and would be back in an hour. Since I was already there and it wasn't too far from a dry place to sit as it was raining that day, I left the car with them and went somewhere else to wait. About 30 minutes later I get a call saying the tech was not coming back for the day and to come get my car. O...Kay. Not cool. Sorry, but I won't be back. read more

If you want to leave broke and with more problems than you came with, then come here! AAA needs to seriously stop recommending this shop and I am going to share why I feel that way. Our daughter's 2011 Infiniti G37 would not turn off so AAA towed it here. The mechanic claimed the battery needed to be replaced HOWEVER the battery is brand new with only !,452 miles on it (replaced 8/20/24). In addition, he said the BCM (Body Control Module) needed replacement for $854. The battery was disconnected (and drained!!) as a temporary fix to shut off the car and he was unable to turn it back on; he claimed it was due to the aftermarket kill switch that was installed. The kill switch had nothing to do with the car not turning on so we had it towed again - far, far, away from this shop!!!!!!! I was actually advised by another mechanic that only the dealership should replace the BCM due to the fact that it needs to be programmed to the car! What was the problem you ask? Simply enough, the key fob!!!!!!! SAVE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY - DO NOT COME HERE! RESPONSE: You didn't charge me because you couldn't figure out how to turn the car on which required my husband and his mechanic to come down. Correct or not?! Yes - I have the text stating ' Imma pass'. If the car wasn't correctly diagnosed then there is nothing to charge for!!!! The car runs flawlessly now. read more

I want to say this place was a life saver this weekend. We drove up to San Jose from LA on Friday for a tournament and we were 1/2 a mile from our destination at 6:30pm when my car felt weird and pulled over, parked , and powered off my car. Attempted to turn it on and it wouldn't start. All of the local shops were closed and some not even open till Monday. 2 repair shops and 3 tow trucks later we are referred to Keep it Running by Jack from AAA. Saturday afternoon at 3:30pm we arrive and it took the owner 5 my minutes to figure out the problem. The apart was ordered and it arrived Sunday and I was in the road home by 4:30pm. This place was amazing and did mention they even waited for me after the shop was closed so I could pick my car to drive back home to LA. I would definite recommend this place. Not very many shops are open on Sundays, but I stumbled upon Keep It Runnin Smog when I thought I had a nail in my tire. I did a Yelp search and found this place. I drove to the location and there were two gentlemen there to help. I think they might have been a father-son duo. The older gentleman helped me right away and informed me that my tire was just lacking air. He pumped it up and didn't even charge me. Another guy arrived and he brought coffee for the two other guys, which I thought was a nice gesture. Who wants to work on a Sunday? Anyhow, I asked again if they were sure I didn't need to pay, and they insisted there was no charge. Pretty noble. 2nd visit to Keep It Runnin was for an oil change for my Toyota Corolla. I've been lagging on it and again decided Sunday would be the day. I called the shop around 10am and the younger gentleman picked up. Asked for the price and he quoted me $50. I asked how busy they were and he said just to come on over. I drove up and I was in and out in less than 10 mins. He also honor the price of $50 and even got synthetic. First and foremost, let me just say God must've sent me here. Earlier in the year, my car started to lightly jerk as I would accelerate on the pedal. It would slow down and kick-push pretty hard. It was annoying me for a year. Well today was the day I finally had to do something about it. I don't know much about cars and everything from maintaining the simple stuff such as an oil change is about the only thing I know about.. oh, and little stuff with tires lol. Every time I went to get an oil change, the mechanics from Jiffy Lube (NEVER AGAIN), would tell me there were no leaks and all my oils were filled up. Well after half a year, my car started slowly to act up on me such as little jerks. Earlier today as I was driving, my car would jerk to the max; only this time it was worse. It would drive for a couple minutes but once I came to a full stop, my car would accelerate and I can hear the engine going but my car wouldn't move? I was stuck in one place as if my car was on PARK and I'm pushing on the pedal for no reason. Once I turned off my car fully and turned it back on, I was able to drive for another cool couple mins and then it'd repeat again. I was embarrassed and I was holding up some traffic behind me. This was dangerous and serious. It wasn't until I pulled over at 76 for some gas and spotted this man who was the mechanic/owner of the shop. I carefully explained to him what I was feeling and how my car was acting and he went straight to recommending me getting my transmission oil changed. It has been probably a little over two years since I changed my transmission oil . Vu, the owner, had lifted my car and showed me the leaks and how bad my gasket was. As he began to unscrew each bolt from the tray, the oil started to drip out. He collected the oil onto a pan and examined it with me; it was pure black, muddy, short on amount, etc. Lots of crud in between everything and it was totally time to get things going. Vu is a knowledgable man with patience and great manners. He has total respect for me and went on explaining in great detail of what was exactly happening. He was reassuring and kind so I didn't have the feeling of worrisome. Vu took his time from point A to point B without losing track. He was able to tell his story about his mechanic life and where he's from while fixing my car. This was very impressive. He doesn't play around with short cuts either, instead he did everything the real way which was carefully turning bolts, cleaning the trays, applying this glue substance onto my tray, pouring the oil, etc. Once everything was completed, he then took my steering wheel and shift stick to manually turn the shifts from better rotation. I had put my 100% trust in him and so far my car is feeling different. It's smoother and easy going. He made everything worth while but interesting at the same time. He's the best in the business and I can't thank him enough. If ANYONE OUT HERE in the South Bay, looking for a great mechanic shop with an awesome mechanic, check this place out. I totally recommend people coming here for a great check up and for fixings. Vu is compassionate and truly cares for his customers. He is attentive and shows great respect for his craft. I've never witnessed anything like this first hand and watching a mechanic like Vu, demonstrate the art of fixing something while keeping a calm atmosphere. Needed to do a full synthetic Oil Change for the bf's car that i borrowed from LA. Of course i searched my trusty yelp, made a few calls, got quoted stupid pricing (for some reason just because its the bay people charge arm and a leg), and then found this place. Vu picked up the phone and Vu quoted a very good low price but my friend was skeptical about the low price so he went with me. When i got there my friend question him about the oils and filter and it turned out Vu had quoted me for everest oil which is still good but lower performance and I wanted Mobile 1. Vu re-quoted me and it was still way lower then the competition. Shoot even lower then my LA auto guy. Of course i went with it and my friend was watching them and said they did good for a oil change. Vu is hilarious and straight forward. Probably the most funniest auto guy I met. He interacts with his customers which i thought was good. The shop is located in a 76 gas station and only been open for 6 months. Rainy day mind you. Seating is outside so I'm like great. I walked up told the guy I had called for an oil change and smog. He was a bit preoccupied with his YouTube video so I felt not listened too. I lightweight wanted to get back in my car and go somewhere else. But he gave me his attention shortly after asked me to take a seat inside (since it was raining) and he got my car with an oil change and smog check. It all was very quick and he offered me a drink and a snack which I was to shy to grab until I left. I was in and out and head home within 15-20 minutes. I've finally found an auto-mechanic I trust. Took my Ford Mustang to the Ford Service-place on Steven's Creek, San Jose two years ago. Carefully explained that it kept running out of coolant, and the AC wasn't working, AND that I had had it looked at by an auto-mechanic in Redwood City two months earlier, and they had told me nothing was wrong, when clearly there was. Ford charged me $700 dollars, told me everything's fine, just refill freons. Same problems persisted, so we've been driving around refilling coolant every time we fill up gas, and have had no AC - for two years. (Having spent $400 + $700, with nothing resolved, we lost hope.) Took it back to Ford, after carefully explaining to them, they did a better job this time and found a broken AC compressor and a broken water pump (diagnostics $200). Quote to get it fixed? $1,850 + $850 + taxes, plus they said that after they had replaced the compressor they'd have to do additional diagnostics. So essentially it would cost me more than $3,000. While the Ford was still at Ford, I reached out to get quotes on Yelp, Vu was the quickest, with full transparency - offered a screenshot, and also corrected me on a number of things that needn't get done and so on. Substantially better price....! Transparency, honesty, non-BS, straight-forward communication with no-nonsense. This is where you take your car. Everyone makes mistakes, but at least here, I'm sure they'll be honest mistakes. (And haven't come across any yet.) read more
