    Big O's Trailers

    Big O's Trailers

[This is part of a set of reviews covering establishments my family and I encountered while taking…read morea road trip to Cincinnati.] To be honest, I have no idea what Big O's does or sells. Presumably they do things with/sell trailers. But I had to give a rating to this place based on the following story. This is part 2. Part 1 can be found at http://www.yelp.com/biz/bp-station-portage As I walk toward Big O's, I see a display trailer set up outside with an awning and a table. A woman notices me, makes eye contact, and starts walking toward me as I approach. "Can I help you?" "Yeah. I'm out of gas. Do you have ANY idea where I could get some?" "Hmmm... all we have is diesel here. Just a second." The other guys at the display trailer go about their business chatting amongst themselves. She starts walking past the front entrance of the store into a gated area. She asks a group of another 4 guys if they have any suggestions and they all look blankly (I'm starting to see a trend here) and shake their heads. She finds another woman and they mumble to each other and head further into the gates. I follow. The second woman points to a spot on the lot and the first woman pulls out a gas can. A wave of relief pours over me. She pours the first gas can into a second smaller plastic gas container. I'm not sure why she did that since she pretty much emptied the first can into the second with about a half a gallon of gas. "Thank you SO much," I say. "I'll give you a ride to your car." "You don't have to do that. I'm just down the road," pointing to my car. "It's no problem. I want to get away from here anyway." "Ok." We get in her car and I come to find that a nearby river overflowed and they were under 3-4 feet of water for about a week. The week before, I-94 and Hwy 33 had been closed for several days. She gives me directions to Exit 108, I drip the contents of the gas can into my car and make it two miles to fill up my car. I filled up her gas can and returned it thanking the woman profusely. None of the other men at Big O's were very friendly, but I can see their attitude when trying to clean up after a big ol' mess. The woman that helped me may have had ulterior motives to give me a ride, but she didn't have to work as hard as she did to get me the little gas they had. That's the kind of helpfulness I expect from a small town. So if you need a trailer, and aren't far from Portage, WI, stop in at Big O's. Or if you ever find yourself stupid enough to run out of gas in the middle of Wisconsin, know that there will be at least one person around willing to help you out.

I wish more businesses ran themselves like Big O's does. Will be back for sure and will recommend them to anyone needing a new trailer or trailer service.

I hate giving this small business a 1 star review, but unfortunately in my opinion it is warranted…read more I did business with this company on the trailer rental side of their business and that went well. Where they fall short is on the dock sales portion. We purchased a complete dock from Anytime Trailer in early February. Our agreement was that I pay in full and the dock would be on my shore in a week. I stated if it it were to take an extra week, no big deal it was winter. He stated he would have it done in a week, because he likes to get things finished. I didn't hear anything for a long time. We paid in full (my 1st mistake) but time went on and no dock. Long story short, it took a long time for the dock to show up. They delivered it and dropped it on the lake, and not on my shore. There were legs that didn't look the same as the other, and missing nuts and bolts in several locations. When I contacted him he said he had to order legs and parts for the dock, but it wouldn't take long to get. Remember I was sold and paid for a complete dock. I asked him when he came with the parts if he would move my dock to the shoreline and he agreed. Then nothing, nothing, nothing. Finally I had to get 3 guys to help me move it. As it started to melt the legs were dropping into the ice and they were starting to freeze. We moved the dock not knowing that some of the hardware was missing from underneath the legs (more on the result of this later). Fast forward to spring. Ice is off the lake, and I still don't have the right legs and nuts and bolts to complete the setup. I text him...nothing. I call him....nothing. Finally my wife called and got a hold of him on a Monday and he said he would try to have it done by Thursday. When Thursday comes....nothing. Friday, Saturday, Sunday....nothing. I call him Monday ask ask for a drop dead date that week to be completed. He said by Thursday. He came Tuesday and contacted me to say it was done. We were finally excited to be done with this. I go down to check things out and prep the dock to put in the water. Right away I see the top rail of the aluminum by one of the legs is bent. So bent the composite decking won't go in. I call him. He says "Yeah, we noticed that!" Looks like it happened after we installed the legs. In other words it must be my fault. I told him I felt under the legs and it felt like a bolt was missing. He stated there should be two holes, but only one is required. I actually for a moment thought that maybe it was our fault. It was bothering me, so I went down to check, and two of the legs didn't even have one of the "required bolts" in them. It was obvious now how the aluminum rail was bent. The "required bolt" was missing from the bottom of the leg allowing it to flex and damage the upper rail. This is a clear example of cause and effect and not my fault. I contact him with pictures and ask for the remaining hardware. He told me they would be in my mailbox the next day. I still have an incomplete, damaged dock. Nothing......Nothing.....Nothing! Buyer Beware
