tl;dr Ezsmile charged me $150 for something covered by my insurance. They were very rude and refused to give me back my money. I had to file a claim through Delta Dental and ultimately a grievance to get my money back. Basically what happened was that they charged me $150 for a periodontal cleaning that was covered by my insurance. They also forced me to pay before the actual cleaning which made it more uncomfortable. After I went home, I confirmed with my wife that the cleaning was indeed covered. So I emailed them our insurance coverage and asked for a refund. The receptionist replied that they would file a claim through Delta Dental. It takes a couple of weeks for the claim to go through and if I am right, Delta Dental would refund me. So I waited a month and followed up with them about the claim. Their rude email response from the receptionist was that my quarrel was with Delta Dental and not them and that she could remove me as a patient asap if that's what I want. Wow. I called Delta Dental and asked if there was an existing claim. There was not. I then filed the claim myself, provided the receipts of what cleanings I had, and Delta agreed, I should not have been charged and Ezsmile should refund me. They said they would contact Ezsmile to instruct them to refund my money. They said if I don't receive the money in 35 days, I had to file a grievance. After 35 days, I called Ezsmile asking about the refund. Stephanie angrily yelled at me through the phone saying to stop calling them (I called 5 min before but no one picked up). She said she would never pay me and only Delta can (which was incorrect). So I filed an official grievance against them through Delta. Delta investigated it and wrote me a check. I don't understand how or why they (mostly Stephanie) could be SO nasty, rude, and unprofessional. Plus, they were essentially committing insurance fraud. If they want to reply explaining their perspective, I welcome that. STAY AWAY! The dentist and dental assistants were decent, but the front office is a terrible nightmare that no one deserves. read more

I have never had a dental office or medical provider send text messages to me as a prospective patient requesting PHI and was concerned as this is unprofessional and violates HIPPA. Moreover, not only is it clear that this office employs someone who lacks professional conduct and clearly doesn't understand HIPPA, this person responded to me with an OK emoji. They were the ones who put on my braces and stuck with me all the way through when I finally got them off. Dr. Shih is amazing and his staff of hygienists, assistants, and everyone else just makes you feel so comfortable and relaxed. Super disappointed with the integrity on this practice. After reading similar reviews, I've come to terms that this place just consumes people's money. I recently called to get my panoramic x-rays from them for my oral surgeon and they said it'll be $45. When I called my oral surgeons office they assured me that because my X-rays had gone through my insurance that I shouldn't have to pay $45 because they're MINE by LAW. I'm sad that some practices would take advantage of patients that aren't familiar with their rights. I'm beyond thankful that I double checked and had an HONEST response from another moral conscience practice. Also- I had incorrect diagnoses here. My visit with Dr. Shih was absolutely amazing. First off, his front office staff was very welcoming and made the whole check in process very easy and seamless. I came in for a typical cleaning, but after speaking with my hygienist she recommended a teeth whitening. I got the in office whitening procedure and I was so impressed with the immediate results. I've gotten so many compliments on how white my teeth are now. To be honest, before going into his office I never knew anything about veneers or what they were. After a couple office visits, going back and forth, i finally decided to ask about them. One of my friend just got them done by him recently and I was speechless when I saw the difference. Dr. Shih explained and broke down the intricate and meticulous process to me in a way that I could understand. He showed me super cool imaging of the process, with before and after photos, so that I could really get a clear picture on how different methods are used for different facial structures/features. Dr. Shih was the most unsettling individual that I've met in my life. The dental assistant's personality seemed barely acceptable, she wasn't nice nor was she mean. The chin rest for the 360° xray reeked of perfume. I felt strange side effects after the xray was done. On top of that, bitewing xrays had to be done-- did the 360° xray not suffice? I was seated in the chair which faced the wall, and was notified the Dr. will be in shortly. So I waited for the Dr. to show up. About 5 minutes later, the Dr. quietly and slowly crept up behind me. He took a seat and sat on the rear right side of me, and stayed there the whole time he talked to me. So I had to turn my head in an uncomfortable position to make eye contact as he was talking to me. Y'know, because that's just basic human decency upand bedside manners. He asked the usual dental-related questions, and then proceeded to ask me if I was married. I was incredulous. How can one that works within the medical professional even exist? I asked to stop the appointment at that moment, which at that point he started stuttering and mumbling. I've gone many times to EZ Smile for fillings and cleanings and my last experience was very nice. She cleaned my teeth without pain or awkward conversation and I left feeling generally satisfied. Today however, I left my teeth cleaning feeling like I had more stuff between my teeth than when I came. The appointment started with the two dental hygienists talking bad about one of their co-workers in front of me and another patient. When the cleaning started everything was going okay until she began looking for another tool while the tool shooting water was still on, spraying water up my nose, on my glasses, and down my face. The hygienist did not apologize when she realized what she was doing, instead scolding me for moving around. She did this two more times. My last cleaning, the woman was very gentle with the stick which cleaned between my teeth and avoided stabbing my gums. Of course there is a degree to which the hygienists have to because of the proximity of teeth to gum. However, I think this hygienist had a problem with her depth perception. She began stabbing deep into my gum and then dragging up to clean my teeth. Repeatedly. It hurt, to say the least. Throughout the cleaning, she asked me to open my mouth wider, when I obviously couldn't open wider than I already had it. She proceeded to hook her thumb on my lower jaw and clamp it open with the rest of her fingers under my chin. My jaw is still sore from being pulled open for so long. My hygienist managed to trigger a gag reflex I didn't have before by sticking the suction down my throat to clean up the pool of water that was collecting at the back of my throat, instead of just having me close my mouth like they usually did. I also don't know how she expected me to answer her questions while she is knuckle deep in my mouth. I left my cleaning overall upset and sore. From waking up on a Saturday before 9 to being sticked and drowned, I would say your care at EZ Smile is very hit or miss. read more

My experience with Dr Shih and his staff has always been a Five Star Experience! The lobby is very calming. They have beverages, comfortable chairs, and a nice water feature. The staff is very professional and skilled. Stephanie the Office Manager is very helpful in answering questions from insurance matters to explaining the services and treatment. She always is friendly and helpful. The Dental Assistant Kat is nice, efficient, and always answers my questions and sets me at ease. The Dental Hygienists Julia and Lisa are great. They are thorough in their work, but still very gentle. The office is immaculate, and the equipment is really top notch. Dr Shih is one of the best Dentists I have ever been to. This review is for the lady assistant who work here. I am new patient and I called to make an appointment. I called at 12:30pm on Oct 10,2018. The way this lady talked to me was so rude and not respectful. She asked" YOUR NAME? INSURANCE?" I said my name and Dental Care USA. Dr shih and his wife shouldn't be allowed to work on people anymore. I went in needing a root canal and they insisted I do a deep cleaning to strengthen the foundation. They refused to fix my bite that was irregular from a tooth being removed. They blamed my irregular bite pattern on being, and I quote, of the Asian decent. That has nothing to do with the fact that I had a tooth removed. They also refused to address what I asked to be addressed. Instead While doing the deep cleaning they cut my nerve and my whole body went numb. Felt like I had been electrocuted by 100000 tazers. I was screaming, crying, trying to catch my breath, and they just stood there telling me to calm down or I would be removed. If you cut someone's nerve, they can't calm down. That feels like your soul has been attacked. Like every cell in your body is under attack. It feels like what I imagine torture to feel like. They said that's impossible, there is no way they could have done that. They refused all responsibility for what they did. I clearly was a different person before I went in for the procedure, to being a completely helpless old man it seemed the second they sliced the nerve. To this day 8 months later I still can't feel parts of my face. I had to immediately go to the hospital after this procedure due to having stroke like symptoms, blacking out for over 30 minutes, having weakening pains in my body and had to crawl to the bus stop to avoid paying an ambulance but had to have someone call me an Uber because it was getting worse and worse. I kept calling dr shih and his wife telling them it's not the anesthesia I'm losing my vision it's hard to breath my body is numb on one side I'm losing my motor skills and I am feeling weak and delirious. They kept refusing responsibility telling me there is no way they could have done that to me. When I got to the hospital they treated me as if I was a drug addict trying to get medicine but all I wanted was to not die or lose my nerve functions. I blacked out and collapsed at the hospital and they ran tests and diagnosed me and sent me on my way. For the rest of the week I had to stay home because periodically I would lose vision. As if everything gets dim around me until it's like a tunnel vision. I was in full sunlight and couldn't see a thing in front of me, my vision just keeps going out when this happens and my heart hurts tremendous my breathing gets heavy and I feel weak like I'm going to collapse.
