Excellent food. Ireland treasure. If you're looking for legit meal that's not gimmicky here's the place to go

I'll start off by saying the staff and the food was great. However, the night we went into dine was a mess! We had made our reservation IN PERSON for 3 people earlier that day around noon. Prepared to have a great dinner, we ordered a couple of high end bottles of champagne and ordered many of their hand crafted cocktails. At this point the server had mentioned to us due to an online reservation made we only had an hour and a half to enjoy our food. This did not make sense to me; why as a patron spending LOTS of money we couldn't enjoy ourselves and our food without having to rush. We reluctantly obliged this request thinking it's fine, we can probably finish within that time. Well at this point we ordered our drinks and server came back to take our order. We wanted to order and appetizer but were told we could not because we would not have enough time to eat it... uhm okay. So again peeved we just moved on because what are we gonna do, we were essentially denied service. Our main dish came out, we enjoyed it and finished our drinks. At this point our plates were being cleared and wanted to order dessert and again said we couldn't because they had to prepare for another party. I had it at this point, they again reminded us that due to their mistake they overbooked and they needed the table. It was completely off putting to me considering we were spending well over 500 euro for our meal. How does their mistake constitute us having to leave and not enjoy our full experience? Again spending good money in their establishment and trying to spend more they refused us. I work in a Michelin star restaurant and know a few things about service. Again, food was great but I'll never recommend any of my colleagues or any of my high end guests ever go to this establishment. You should spend your money elsewhere. read more

Sorry F.X. Buckley, I think your Yelp ratings are way over rated based on our dining experience. Maybe the high ratings propped up our expectations. The best thing that we had were the oysters, they were fresh and tasty. The steak was just ok. Was interesting how each of our steaks looked compared to each other. 2 of us ordered medium one 1 was ordered medium rare. The medium rare came out with hardly any char which was surprising. And between the 2 that were medium one was certainly more cooked even though one was a 10 ounce and the other a 14 ounce Rib Eye. Again, they were ok, but I make a better Rib Eye back in the states. The sides were okay too, nothing to write home about. One thing I do have to mention too is the size of the plates, they are huge for the steaks we ordered and to have the wine glasses, water glasses and all of our sides on the table was almost ridiculous. Best Steak in Dub. Every location is superb. Real Irish hospitality. The sides are too die for, especially the spinach.

Great aged steak, make sure you have a reservation, otherwise you will not be able to get in. It is a very small place and you can have the table for the evening. The steak was melting in my mouth, I opted for the T-bone steak, it is huge, so sharing maybe a better option if you get an appetizer. They also have great red wines to compliment the steak. We had a layover here from Paris. Looking for a place to eat and our Uber driver recommended this place. We went there let and only had reservations for 8:30. So we walked around until then and it was so worth it. We got a steak for 2 and the tons of side.a. Great drinks and the staff so friendly and welcoming. My boyfriend brought me here last night for our anniversary :) We ordered the sharing meal for two.....A 16oz T-bone steak with various sides such as mushrooms and onions, mash and chips and seasonal veg. When our food was first served we literally didn't think we'd finish it there was so much! However, truth be told, we didn't leave a crumb!The steak was cooked to perfection and came with 4 sauces on the side. All of the sides were to the highest standard and cooked to perfection also. The vegetables were soft, the mash potato was beautifully creamy, the chips were crunchy, and the mushrooms and onions were literally the best thing I've ever had! Too good! :) We each had a glass of Delle Venezie Pinot Grigio and it so nice, we indulged in a full bottle! The staff were impeccable and we couldn't find one fault with them, they were very friendly and welcoming. We sat for some time drinking wine after our meal and at no point felt rushed to leave even though the restaurant was full to capacity and several customers were turned away at the door. This restaurant is slightly pricey but the quantity and quality of the food is to the highest standard, you really do get what you pay for! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. The Huge Meat Cleaver as a door handle is a sure sign that this is a place of meat, not just any meat either. High quality, well portioned and cooked to perfection and preference. I had 2 Scottish friends visiting for the weekend and knew they'd appreciate this place. They were well happy, it gets very busy here so you are best to book in advance.We ended up being quite a big group but the waiters were able to accommodate us. They also have tasty fish dishes if you don't feel up for their hearty steaks, vegetarians however will be quite limited but I feel the door handle alone might put you off entering ;) If your iron levels are low or you've just got some big lads with you who need feeding - this is a great choice. read more

It came with all 4 sauces along with mashed potatoes, fries, onions and mushrooms and vegetables. We also ordered the crowned spinach. Was in Dublin for a bachleor party, so we had to hit up a steakhouse! This spot is small but cozy and welcoming. Our server was amazing, really funny, he even lived in Chicago for a couple years so he related with us alot. He knew we were a "stag" party so he took really good care of us with food selections, and tips on where we should go out to after dinner. The food was solid. I've had better steaks, but this place is a bargain, you get so much food and at a pretty good price. Don't do the foi gras patte, and try to stick to smaller options if you plan on going out after, but overall great spot! read more

OK, so I committed the cardinal sin and ordered a burger rather than a steak here, but here goes. Nice ambience for a steak place. FX have a few locations, this one is very central in temple bar, but relatively small and cosy. They take their meats seriously and the place is decorated accordingly. Staff was friendly and attentive. We booked for 7, arrived announcing 5 would come, ended up with 6 most of whom were late and the staff didn't bat an eyelid, friendly through and through. Portion sizes are good. I enjoyed my burger, but my fellow diners also enjoyed their steaks so if you're looking for a good steakhouse, this place has well earnt its reputation. The beer selection was the only real let down for me. Only about 3 options for tap beer, or else you have to opt for bottled, and as the waitress put it, "we don't have normal beers here." This place is busy. Don't expect to walk in and get a table, I'd definitely recommend booking ahead. If you're a lover of meat, you'll like this place. read more

Visited Dublin, Ireland for the 1st time, one of the first things I did after booking the hotel tickets was look for a good steakhouse...no, that is a lie. A GREAT steakhouse! Well, it seems Dublin had a few options, but having just booked a hotel in the Temple Bar District, it made sense to take a short walk to this place...so using their website booked a reservation. A decision I do not regret! It's a small place but had reserved a table for 5...so we had the largest booth right near the stairs. Looking at the menu, there is no shortage of meat options...prices are higher than an average steakhouse, but you get what you pay for. Well any carnivore worth their salt knows "the closer to the bone, the sweeter the meat" so 4 of 5 of us got the 22oz Ribeye on the bone. It was beyond good! Medium/Rare...with a Red Wine reduction sauce, then sided up with a baked potato with butter and creme fraiche...and sautéed mushrooms. Everyone left full and happy! My favorite eatery in Dublin! Of course the blue-eyed, beautiful, sweet as pie, blonde hostess with a 90mph Irish accent, Jo, certainly...um..."enhanced the experience". *ahem Great food...great service...great friends...is there a sixth star?! read more

The best steak I've tried in the city so far. Really tender and good, but their prices are pretty high. Eg: €42 for a 12 oz filet. I don't regret it, it was so good, but I've been to the butcher before, they charge way too much for just cooking it lol but enjoy it. read more

I can't believe that this restaurant wasn't on Yelp yet, I mean, if you haven't been here, you seriously need to give this place a shot! I only heard about it from a Texan friend who's here on business regularly. I know, right? We all know everything's bigger in Texas; and if a guy from Texas tells you that this is the place were he had had the best steak ever, you DO NOT question that. Also because they could carry a gun and what would you do then?! So, I went all in. We had one of our infamous work nights out and I booked a table at FXB for us. My honor was at steak! ;-) I was a bit nervous when we arrived, not having been here and recommending this as a great steak place, but unnecessarily so. The place is lovingly decorated in theme, with butcher's drawings of the different cuts on the walls, nice and comfy benches, and a massive display of the most mouth watering meat still on the bone. And that's were it got difficult - which steak to choose? 4 of us went for the Fillet steak, we also had 1 Rib-eye on the bone and a Sirloin steak, all of which come with a choice of sides and sauce. The guy with the Rib-eye figured that the 22 oz steak would probably be equally as much meat as in a 10/12 oz fillet, because of the bone still on it. Boy, was he wrong! It was a humongous piece of delicious looking steak and I regretted my choice, but only until I dug into mine. It was cooked perfectly to order (for all of us) and the garlic fries with it were great too. i could have done with a little more sauce on mine, but that's a minor point. The service was attentive, quick and very friendly. The wine, a 2011 Argentinian Malbec, accompanied the meat very nicely. Rounded off with an espresso after dinner, I could have not been happier. It turns out one of my colleagues had been there before, just didn't tell anybody about it. I suppose that's what I should do, keep it to myself. So please don't tell anybody! Make sure that you book a table, since it was packed throughout our stay and with the location you can imagine that there's lots of walk-in business. There were ups and downs to my visit to fx buckleys. The positives were that the waiter who originally welcomed us was incredibly friendly and showed us all the different cuts of meat and gave us a very interesting introduction as to how each is cut and the dry ageing process. Along with this the food was beautiful! Between us we tried the rib eye, rump steak and t bone and we had absolutely no quarrels about the food! The starter of baby back ribs was mouth wateringingly tasty and almost fell off the bone while the oysters were fresh and succulent. The negatives were that while we were the first table to arrive for the dinner menu once the restaurant filled up we found it very hard to get any of the staffs attention. To the stage where we left before ordering dessert as it was too much of an inconvenience to keep attempting to get the attention of the staff. Along with that the knives were blunt and not very good steak knives considering it's a Steakhouse... Aswell as this the amount of sauce they give with the steak is minuscule. However overall we enjoyed the experience and I would go back again just for the food which is very well prepared and keeps you wanting more! read more

First night in Dublin, and we picked a great restaurant for our first dinner. F.X. Buckley is a small steakhouse, maybe seats 60 people, so make sure you make reservations. The dry aged steak is very good, not the best I've had though. Be sure to ask for your steak one temperature lower than you normally would in the U.S. They tend to over cook red meat. The sauces for the steaks are excellent. The sides are a good size, you can share them. However the spinach was undercooked and the mashed potatoes, in spite of being in a hot crock were only warm not hot, and they were quite bland. Some of the dishes that are not steak are eccentric. No Guinness on tap, in Dublin. Seriously? Service is very polite, however somewhat inattentive. You have to play flag person to catch a servers attention. Also, the steaks are quite large, which is a good thing, unless you don't have takeaway containers, which they don't. This location is not as good as the Pembroke St. Location. read more

This was an incredibly great meal from start to finish. My husband commented that it beats one of the better steak houses in LA, Mastros. We popped in on a Monday night and it wasn't too busy. This place is amazing. The staff was efficient and friendly. The aged beef melts in your mouth. We were still jet lagged, three screaming kids in surround sound all the way from LAX. They took pitty on us and fit us in, without a reservation. We were soon feasting on world class Porterhouse with all the trimmings. My sister and I brought my dad out for a Father's Day meal here on a Saturday evening, 4 weeks ago. Yes, I know...about a month and a half AFTER Father's Day but oh trust me, this meal was worth the wait! I had been meaning to try out FX Buckleys for quite a while, but I think the main menu prices were just that little bit too steep to justify trying out. On the other hand, their early bird menu seemed like fantastic value. Two courses for €19.95 or three courses for €23.95. When compared to the main menu prices, you can see for yourself the value you're getting with the early bird. While a lot of the prime steaks aren't available for the early bird, all three of us still had one hell of a meal! I had rung up at 5pm looking for a 6.15pm booking and was lucky enough to be squeezed in. Thankfully I did because the place was packed when we arrived, which is always a great sign! The main area of seating is a little cramped truth be told, so if you were looking to have an intimate date or quiet chat, this probably isn't the best venue. The décor is very well suited to the overall feel and vibe of the restaurant though. We ordered a bottle of House red which was about €25. For a house red too it was actually quite palatable and complemented our meals considerably well. All three of us opted for the Baby Back Pork Ribs for starters and the 8oz Rump Steak for the mains with an extra portion of onion rings. To start, one of the best ribs starters I've ever had quite honestly...No hyperbole in sight! They were fall off the bone tender and came in a beautiful, tangy sauce. I was also quite shocked to see just how many ribs we got given it was only a starter. We were off to a great start with these! Onto the main event. I ordered my steak medium-rare, which let's be honest, is the only way to go. For all of you out there that go for well done and like to cremate your steaks, SHAME ON YOU! If your steaks not bleeding, you're doing it wrong. My steak came out accompanying home-cut fries and a Bearnaise sauce. It was perfectly cooked to my liking and tasted simply delicious. You can tell they respect their steaks here because while it wasn't a true prime cut, the flavour off the beef was fantastic. Pouring over a drizzle of the Bernaise sauce just further put it over the edge. The fries came with an excellent seasoning and stayed crispy all the way to the bottom of the bowl, which should always be the case. The onion rings were huge and these were also a hit. Honestly, I couldn't fault the food at all. There's no complicated flavours here. What you see is what you get and what you get is one hell of a great steak with equally matching accompaniments. The staff were very pleasant here also and were always making sure everything was to our liking. I got the impression that no request would go unheard. I'll be knocking off one star for the seating. It's not ideal when the back of your chair persistently knocks off a fellow diner's chair behind you, but that fact alone won't stop me from returning here. If you're looking for an excellent steak and don't fancy shelling out €30 for one, I'd highly recommending out FX Buckley's early bird. read more

Ate here last night and came away full and happy as usual. High quality meat from Buckley's (as you'd expect), always cooked and seasoned well. Their early bird menu is great value (three courses for around 20euro) and has a decent selection, tables have to be vacated by 8pm though; the all night value menu (Sunday-Wednesday) is a fiver more expensive but the choice is greater. A la carte prices are very competitive for the area too. Nice to see that they've recently started stocking the full O'Hara's craft beer range as well as bottles of the excellent Galway Hooker. There's nothing better than one of their huge mixed grills with chunky chips (a snip at 17euro) accompanied by an O'Hara's Red - deeelicious. Fairly extensive wine and cocktail list too. Staff is great - finding a middle ground between friendly and professional (which you don't often get around Dublin it seems!). Would definitely recommend booking though as there's only space for around 40 diners. Well worth checking out! read more
