He thought I would enjoy their class style and get the same benefits, without the high cost of personal training. He was so right! The atmosphere is encouraging (high fives are required), inspiring (there is a daily motivational message/story) and fun. They mix up the workouts daily so you never get bored and there are always challenges, where healthy competition keeps you motivated. As the names…read moresuggest, Average Joe's is a bunch of "locals" working out at a modest gym owned by a "local", and GloboGym is the national chain that attracts models, celebrities, and world-class athletes with its state-of-the-art equipment, spa services, and chic design. IAC is most definitely the Average Joe's of the Kent Island area. (Note: Club1 is the GloboGym equivalent.) The owner of IAC is a jovial ex-wrestler who will make you laugh with his gruff humor and make you cry with his years of experience with personal training (read: torture). The equipment is good, if not a little dated and worn, and kept clean. On staff are friendly, down-to-earth trainers who will help you get in shape and feel like a hero for doing so. And for you busy parents, there is a small daycare service to entertain the kids while you train. The rates are very fair, and plans range from long-term (6 months) to month-to-month. If you work in the Narrows (area in which IAC is situated) you get a discount. The gym shares full shower and locker room facilities with the neighboring pool. All facilities are always kept clean as a whistle. The IAC is a great way to support a local business and get in shape with your friends and neighbors. As someone who grew up in the area, it was refreshing to run into my teachers, friends, and other neighborhood types there. Contrast that with Club1, where I always caught myself thinking (during my one week trial), "Where do all these beautiful jerks come from?" Indeed, most at Club1 would likely say (to quote White Goodman from Dodgeball): "Here at (Club1) we're better than you, and we know it.." The Island Athletic Club may made of a bunch of average Joe's, but they're my average Joe's, and I'll work out there before anywhere else.

The regular peloton cardio and Planet Fitness just wasn't getting me where I wanna go. This place has been fantastic so far. As someone who has never really lifted weights, the trainers and owner has been fantastic at instructing the correct way to lift. They have two major programs as well as an open gym option. The programs are led by a trainer, one being team training, one being small group training. If you have not been working out lately, you will leave gassed. You will be sore. The workouts are about an hour long. I have been going about 3-4 days a week which has given me enough time to recover between workouts. Bring a towel and water bottle, my first workout was free. They do have shower facilities if you are coming from or going to work. And bonus... the showers are clean. The folks I have met here have been super friendly and welcoming. Ownership has also been very welcoming and motivating. If your looking for a new place to workout, definitely check these guys out... so far I am very happy I did...

I started in the Lean Down Challenge a 6 week program/20 lbs. I get to attend all the boot camps I want and have a small group personal training session once per week. I felt at ease as soon as I walked in the door. The boot camps are available daily. The trainers are extremely personable. I admit I love to hate them during my workouts but I feel so good a little bit after they end. Mac, Emily, and Bill are fantastic! I'm down 6 lbs, feel stronger and surprised myself by accomplishing some of the exercises I never thought I could do. I just started my 3rd week looking forward to meeting more goals I've set for myself. I've finally found a gym home. It's never too late to live your best life. I'm on my way!. Thanks guys!
