Some of us make scrap quilts, so unlike almost every other store, they have fat quarters and are willing to cut 1/4 yard., so the cost is considerably less than at stores that require 1 full yard. What was once a pillar of the quilting community has been reduced to a cold unresponsive warehouse. I live 15 minutes away and it took me 6 days to receive my order. I mentioned that I would gladly pick it up instead of shipping and no response. I've sent messages and no response. I can get faster shipping elsewhere. I want to support my local quilt shops that support their local quilters and the Fabric Shack is no longer interested in their local customers. I need to see the fabric in person and be inspired not browse online. I once was honored to have a quilt I made be featured on their walls but at this point I'm looking for a new home quilting store that interacts with their quilters and isn't just a faceless online business. I miss the ladies of the old fabric shack and their support! A online quilting store with no support is just a cold bland website with no inspiration. This is my new all time favorite fabric store! I loved all of the options that were provided to choose from and how organized the store was. There were also a lot of fabric bundles to pick through and if you head next door to the annex you will be pleased to find beautiful fabrics on sale! I had the most disappointing experience the past few days. A long time fan, I've told countless friends about this gem in Waynesville. This past Saturday I was grateful to have associate Ellie (sp?) immediately share my enthusiasm for a particular look, we easily spent more than an hour searching. When I found just the right fabric for my dining chairs, the buyer approached with indifference and condescension and icily said, "it's probably out of stock. I will call Monday and let you know." The book the fabric was in had the manufacturer name messily ripped off so I was unable to search over the weekend to even get a sense for cost, let alone availability. But I want to give local businesses my money so was completely on board waiting for the shop to help me get this fabric. Toward the end of the afternoon Monday, I hadn't heard so I gave the shop a call. Here's how the conversation went: Me: "Hi, I'm checking to see if you were able to see if the fabric I found is available?" Assoc: "No. It's out of production." Me: "Shoot. Can you help me find what may still be out there even if they're no longer making it?" Assoc: "No. We can not get it." Me: "Hmm. Then can you tell me the manufacturer name do I can try to find it?" Assoc: "No. That is proprietary information and we will not give that to you." Me: "So you're telling me you will not help me find it nor will you let me find it?" (She hands it over to the icy buyer who aggressively talks over me repeating the proprietary information part as if I have been rude or expressed some intention of taking money from him.) Me: I have been a very loyal customer for years. I was in the store for quite some time Saturday and this was the only fabric you have that will work. So at the moment, you've already lost this sale because you're telling me you won't help. Your attitude is making it so that you'll lose a customer for life. Him: There is no attitude. This is hands-down my favorite fabric shop, anywhere. I live in Columbus, but my mom and I often stop by when traveling to or from Tennessee or Cincinnatti. It's always worth the visit. There's not much ambiance, but man... the FABRIC. There's EVERY current collection in here, in EVERY colorway. HUGE selection of Moda Bakeshop goods (my favorite). Amy Butler, Kaffe Fassett, modern, 30's, traditional, holiday, batiks, flannel, Civil War, EVERYTHING. If it's not here, you probably won't be able to find it. The book and pattern selection is great too. There's something in here for every kind of quilter, no frills. I have this fantasy where I've finished ALL of my quilt projects and I walk into Fabric Shack with a clean slate and just go nuts. Service was great! I had a problem applying a gift certificate to my online order and Teresa was super helpful. She was courteous, responsive, and friendly. Although the online shopping experience was OK, it is nothing like going into the store to shop. Being able to place fabrics side by side when building a project, touching the fabric, talking to the staff, and seeing what new products and fabrics are on the shelf. It is great to go in the store but I also want to compliment how fast the shipping is! I need fabric very quickly for a last minute quilt for a wedding and with regular shipping ($2) it arrived in Columbus two days after I ordered it. Lots of fabric stores will take two days to get the fabric into the shipping envelope! I was really impressed. Plus they have lots of great on line clearances, great deals.
