Fabric Town USA feels like it's beautifully stuck in the 70s and I mean that as a compliment. It's not trendy or polished. It's cozy, packed, and full of personality. The staff is genuinely friendly and actually helpful. The kind of people who know their stuff and want you to succeed in your project. Huge selection of fabrics, quilting cottons, upholstery, yarn, and every sewing notion you could possibly need. They offer classes, personalized service, on site sewing machine repair, and their prices actually feel fair for the quality. Good value, especially compared to ordering online and guessing. Bonus points for the unexpected gifts and Jellycat finds. I went in for supplies and definitely left holding something I did not plan on buying. read more

First of all, I love this store. The staff is awesome, and their upholstery fabrics are great. You can count on a person for help with sewing experience. Important to me. Today, I needed elastic, had to have it, and discovered their elastic supply is dessimated. They are the only show in town now(Joanns going out),so pretty Important to stay well stocked. Im getting the elastic I need , from Amazon, tomorrow. I would much rather support my local store, but if they cant stay on top of it, people will go elsewhere. I didn't go into the store this week, but have many other times in the past. One of the greatest things about this store is their employees. They are friendly and helpful, both in person and on the phone. This week, I called to see if they had a very specific fabric, and the employee was very helpful and checked for me. I came in this store looking for some outdoor-type fabric that I could use to patch up some sun-damage tears in a car cover, until my new one arrives in 2-3 weeks. Since I know very little about the different kinds of fabrics I asked the lady who was working at the "cutting station" and she was very kind in helping me choose something that would work for me, at a reasonable cost. Turns out she's somewhat of a car enthusiast too and we had a nice brief chat. Easy free parking behind the building. The location isn't too hard to find and they have a good selection of fabrics. Their remnant selection was fairly small, but they had a nice area filled with 50% off bolts. I went right to it, though of course the best designs were not so deeply on sale as that. The woman at the cutting counter was helpful and the checkout process was easy and fast. This is a large, quiet store and you get helped much faster than at a place like JoAnns where you have to take a number and wait for them to yell for your turn. Downside: no A/C just fans so on a hot day although the temperature didn't feel all that high inside, I left the shop sweaty and gross. Best to go in the morning before it heats up on a summer day. Prices seemed fair. Lots of cute knick knacks for sale and some used paperbacks. No photography in store so that's probably where there aren't more photos here on Yelp. I tried... read more

Went here with my fiance and she tried to engage in friendly conversation with store employees, however they didn't want to engage and we're not friendly, I picked up an item to purchase at the checkout counter and the lady working the register scowled at me and deterred me from buying the soap... customer service was just moderately better we'd spend a lot more time shopping there... read more

I was overwhelmed with joy to walk into a fabric store again, it's been so long since where I live in Santa Barbara doesn't have one. Upon further examination, I noticed the fabric here is affordable but not too special or unique. There's some specialty fabrics but it's mostly geared toward the quilting and home dec crowd. Their strength is in home dec like drapes, pillows, and reupholstery. For knitters, They carry knitters pride needles and a variety of specialty yarns that one could not find at JoAnn's. I wish they had a buyer and a department for fashion fabrics because I was looking for more modern chiffons and georgettes but had to leave empty handed. I'm so happy I stopped in but sadly, my search continues for the right fashion fabric for my design project. read more

I wanted to love it, I want so badly to support local business. I hope the owner wasn't one of the grumpy women I interacted with. One (just one) nice gal did work with me when finding an item. I moved here a little bit ago and went in today and every staff member I talked to seemed so bothered to answer my questions. I waited for quite a bit while two staff were talking...I politely squeaked in:"Can I just ask a price on these zippers?" One of the ladies sighed like I just ruined their conversation, wouldn't answer me-and called another staff over to answer me. While my daughter and I were picking out buttons for a project, another staff told her to not touch them (assuming I'd let her make a mess and not pick it up). I have a business and thought this would be my new place to purchase all my zippers and supplies, but I felt so bummed-I put all of my stuff back-every single pack of buttons and zippers, and ribbon and left. read more

This place has a lot of fabric. A lot of different fabric than Joann's but twice the price per a yard as Joann's. Cute fabric but expensive. However I did find a lot of Chevron prints for 50% off so it came out to $5.50 yd. (.50 cheaper then Joann's). I would go back just to look at the 50% off table. read more

I LOVE fabric town! The people that work here definitely know what they're talking about, unlike when I go to a big store like Joannes and am met with a dumb stare if I ask even a slightly technical question. I live in carpinteria but I'm always willing to drive out to Ventura for their wonderful service and selection. The often have really interesting and unique fabric I can't find elsewhere. They also have a fabulous button selection, really, it's button heaven. I enjoy looking through all their patterns as well as going through all their various yarn. The staff is always very friendly and upbeat, and I have exchanged great stories and conversations with the wonderful people that work here. I look forward to each and every visit :). Thieves! Called with an order for upholstery fabric, sent pictures. Was told they were out of the color I wanted but sent a pic of a lighter shade. It arrives and the material is more like curtain fabric and in no way durable enough to be upholstery. I had told the owner I what I would be using the fabric for. She refuses to make it right. She bait and switched and I'm now out $117. Evil read more

Great fabric selection for various projects - check out the discounted fabric table for great deals on close out fabrics. I really like to shop here for fabrics & yarn that I can't find at places like Michaels or Joann's but the customer service is not great. I've overheard employees commenting on my fabric choice while they're cutting it. After asking an employee about the difference between single knit & double knit, I was told "they're all the same" with a grumpy look. I'd like to keep supporting this small business, but if my business is not valued, I'm going elsewhere like Superbuzzy. The prices are a little higher, but I always feel welcome! read more
