Fabric stores are becoming fewer and far between. Fabricland always has sales going on, you do need to be a member to get the sale price. A lot of times the money you save on being a member pays for the membership itself. read more

Looking for some outdoor fabrics for an patio canopy. Employees there were not friendly and helpful at all. Selections were also very limited. We ended up buying our fabric at Fabricana. it is night and day compared to Fabricland. A Fabricana lady there helped us choicing the right outdoor fabric for our canopy and also helped us to figure out the yardage that we needed. There were way more customers at Fabricana. Fabricland is so sleepy that it feels like a long term care home. read more

No. Just no. Coming here for a few years my expectations have always been really low for this store, especially where customer service is concerned. Seriously, what is up with these employees?! But today took the cake and I don't ever want to come back again. I wanted to make simple purchase and got to the cashier, then an employee and another customer gabbing away cut in front of me. Fine, I'll let that go. They go to another till and I'm in the same line, but the customers in front of me are taking forever and a day. So I go to the other till. The other employee HAD to have seen me waiting but when the phone rang suddenly she picks it up and LEAVES. Just leaves! So I go back to the first line. Well my kid had enough of me waiting in line and was SCREAMING in a meltdown. I had to throw my purchase down on the counter with the slow customers and bail. As in leave the store. I couldn't even buy all the stuff I had cut for me because. Way to go Fabricland. How the hell do these people stay in business when they flat out ignore people like this?! I'm livid. I went to the store at 5pm, it closed at 5:30pm. I wandered around (Probably looking like I could use a hand) and the cranky staff literally avoided me. After 10 minutes I asked one of the miserable looking employees for an alternative to their $18 a meter plain cotton. She suggested something pricier. I explained what I was making and she basically just glared at me. The told me "Well, I would suggest looking at the back wall of discount fabrics but being so close to closing (UH 20 Minutes!) I can't help you" Are you kidding??? You close in 20 minutes... so you should be helping customers for 20 more minutes and completing closing duties AFTER CLOSE. I just said "Got it!" and walked passed 2 other employees just gabbing at the till, ignoring me or the other customers. I 100% will not be back. Looking forward to going back to Fabricana in Coquitlam! read more

Went to Columbia street location. No one wanted to help me find what I was looking for. They pointed me to the wall and said that's where you will find it. One lady told me to look in a bin. When I asked for help the third time, their behavior was really rude. They said well you have to look and read. It was like I was bothering them doing something really important. Finally the cashier helped me and she also went on and on how they don't hold peoples hand in this store. I told her I don't do sowing and was picking up some fabric as a favor to someone. Than she went on to say everyone should know how to sow blah blah blah. She was still the most helpful out of all three ladies working there and took the time to show the fabric and helped me out a lot so I appreciated it very much! These ladies have no clue what customer service is to mention the least. They need to have training. read more

Until recently I was opposed to sewing anything because I remember my home ec. classes in Grade 8 and I was terrible at it. Then I started planning for a wedding and realized that I could save money if I did some of the stuff myself, so out I went to get myself a sewing machine and some supplies. I have yet to check out any other fabic stores but this place has been very kind to me. I was able to walk up to one of the ladies that work there and ask if there was such a book as "Sewing for Dummies" and low and behold they have something along those lines. It's not from the Dummies series but it's just as helpful. I sewed my first sachet this week and I was darn proud of myself lol. They have a discount card that is $20/year or $40 for 3 years. Since I knew I was going to be buying a lot of stuff there over the next year, I bought and it's already paid for itself. The only draw back is that the staff can sometimes be slow but that's because they are very efficient in servicing their customers. At least they have been with me. I will be back! read more

Walked in and was greeted by multiple employees. After walking around and having a few questions I approached Mrs. Barbara. She was the cutest most helpful lady ever! I told her what I was looking for and she showed me multiple options. After choosing one, she measured it out and wrote me a slip which I took to the register. I will not be going back to this location ever again. Horrible service. I walk in, get a dirty look and get no hello, hi or nothing. I proceed to walk around attempting to find what I'm looking for. I had a hard time finding what I was looking for. I'm searching and searching, walking around like a chicken with its head cut off and not once did any of the ladies working there ask if I needed any help. Well, why would they? If they didn't acknowledge me when I walked in other than a dirty look, why would they offer to help me? So on the way out, I get another dirty look. What a joke. You have to buy a membership to get the sale price and the sale price is the same as every other store in the lower mainland regular price. And the membership is $30 if you don't want to give your email or $25 if you give it to them. The fabric we were looking at was $22/meter or $9 with the membership that has to be renewed every year or drive to fabricana at its $10 no membership. Will never go here or would I ever pay a fee to become a member anywhere. And most of the customers in the store walked around like their shit don't stink. read more

this is one of the nicest little places locally to get fabric or notions for that piece of clothing that you've been wanting to make. I'd call the selection for the most part "vanilla" compared other places that can be found in the lower mainland though. The staff is always helpful and willing to suss out that certain pattern you're looking for. The membership card can get you some good discounts if you sew alot, and they send you flyers with the latest deals every quarter with ballots for various draws. I accidentally lost my membership card during the holiday cleaning frenzy. I bought it in September and only used it once. I went into the store to get it replaced. I was told I would have to repay for an entire card. That only head office would be willing to speak with me about it. The customer service was horrible, even if I got an replacement card I would never shop there. I can buy the same items online for less money. So much for trying to support a local business. I feel ripped off, and disgusted with how they don't care about their customers. I will be calling head office and calling the BBB. read more

Great selection of fabrics and basic notions. Dressew is better for notions but fabricland is the best from my experience with fabrics! Get the "sewciety" yearly membership for deals if you plan to visit the store more than once a year. Sometimes the deals are so good that the card works out to be free! You only get 1 chance to make a first impression..so I recieved a gift certificate for Christmas and was excited because I had never been here before. The store seemed well stocked with a nice variety. I selected 2 items that were on sale. When I got to the check out there was mass confusion on how to give the 2 customers in front of me a 14% disc. Someone by the name of Winnie just couldn't figure it out. Finally after 15 min it was my turn. Winnie said that I could not have the sale price because I was using my gift certificate. I replied that this was as good as cash. She continued to deny until she was told by another employee that I could. I did finally get the sale price. Next problem was them trying to issue another credit because I had not used up my GC. This took another 10 minutes and even then Winnie didn't look very sure. I am worried for the next time I go because of her uncertainty. I kept all of my receipts just in case. Great store but a few weak members. Good luck! read more

I just had the most disturbing experience at the fabric land at Columbia Square in New westminster. Yesterday I was quoted 50% off on a $39 a metre fabric. I went back today to purchase it and was told in a very rude matter of fact comment by the manager that the fabric was only 20% off. I told her that I was quoted 50% yesterday by one of the Fabricland staff members; this manager went on to belittled the intelligence ability of her own staff! Then clearly identified herself As the manager and that "management" was now Firmly informing me that she has the say. I found this very disturbing for a store manager to undermine and belittle her long-term staff to a Long-term regular customer. Very very demeaning and an abuse of power. I left the store without the purchase feeling as though I had been beat up and thoroughly put in my place by this Fabricland management. read more

Dropped by to buy textile dye - Dylon and I was soo happy it is selling 50% off - but there is no price tag on it - when I went to the cashier she said it was $14.00 and is charging me $7.00 each. WHAT? Fabricana in United Blvd-Coquitlam is selling it for $5.00 each regular price. Their grommet is selling for $10.00 for eight - Fabricana is selling it for $10.00 as well but for 12. Friendly service and as a first timer I loved how encouraging the staff was with my questions! Definitely made an intimidating experience an easy one! I will be back for sure! The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the check out desk is really really really old school and filling out paper membership stuff was a little like taking a ride in a time machine! I read the reviews and went to check out the store myself. I'm new to sewing as I'm taking a class and had to pick up some fabric and a pattern. I'm a friendly person and said hi to the clerks when I entered. The store clerks didn't seem to reciprocate and didn't even crack a smile. I asked where I could find patterns as I was taking a class. On woman pointed me to the direction and that was a far as she was going to help me. The store didn't have many people so it's not like they were too busy. Another customer ended up helping me sort out patterns. I had to wait a long time to get fabric cut and asked another sales clerk to help me but she was busy putting bolts away and won't come until she was finished. I found some nice things there but the customer service is not the best. read more

Went in on a Friday evening to get two items. Couldn't find either so wondered around to the front to ask the chatting sales clerks for help. Sorry to interrupt your private conversation. The clerk located my two items, we went to the cutting table and she asked if I was a member. No I am not. For the two times a year I need to get things from your store, I do not buy a membership. So not membership, no sale for you. She proceeded to tell me the ribbing for a cuff of a sweatshirt would be 45.98 a meter!!! I wanted 0.1 of a meter. I was met with no you have to buy 0.2 of a meter. Yes $ 9.00 for a cuff of a sweatshirt...7" of ribbing not the 0. of a meter she was making me buy. Lets top it off with the faux fur I needed at full price of $70.00 a meter and yes you need to buy 0.2 of a meter even if you don't need it. Gee Fabricland, do you wonder why no one sews any more? Wonder why ? I think I just told you why! Go to Fabricana, they at least, stop their conversation and help you. I think the extremes in ratings relates to just which employee helps you. I've been here many times, and sad to say, but the younger employees are very nice. I'm over the hill myself, so I regret to say that two of the older employees are either rude or downright hostile. They act as if there are strict but unwritten rules, and if you don't know what they are, you deserve the very worst of "service." It's been so bad that I stopped going a couple of months ago, and called the store's main office to complain--something I've never done before. It's really unfortunate because I live so near, sigh. I only come to this location when I'm in desperate need of some thread or other notions since it's so close. Clean store, and the fabric selection is decent, but fairly standard in terms of variety. The area where this store suffers is unfortunately it's customer service. I've never once been greeted at the door, constantly ignored, and have always had to wait around the cash register, often with other customers, for someone to find the time to check us out. Last time I was waiting at cash, someone even went behind the register, answered the phone, and then left again once they said goodbye! The other customer in line and I were simply floored. The one time I did get asked if I needed help, was unfortunately the rare time I didn't need it as I was just perusing the button collection looking for that perfect button for my project. However, she continued to hover in my personal space, constantly fixing the racks after I had so much as touched a package. I was so uncomfortable that I eventually left without my buttons, which was a shame. read more

Ok so most people know about the membership thing. Seriously though I have been in there repeatedly and have only had one good customer service experience. As of the last time I now refuse to go in there. The service is bad. If you are expecting the basics of Greet customer, Do not treat customer as if they are a hindrance to your job or helpful staff.... then do not go there. The last time I went in looking for a pattern. Waiting at the counter and then trying to flag a person down was rudely told they no longer carry Simplicity/new Look patterns. Yeah I'm done. Out of all the Fabricland stores that I have been into in the lower mainland I have to say that the best customer service has been in the New Westminster store. I will no longer go to the store on Marine Drive or the one in Guildford or Abbotsford as I find that these three stores really LACK customer service whether you go in person or call them on the phone. RUDE, RUDE, RUDE! The New Westminster store has had some rude sales clerks over the years but they have also had some very rude customers. Last week while asking for some help, Barbara was being very helpful to me but the store manager approached her and told her that there were people waiting to have fabric cut. One man in particular was being very, very disagreeable when told that he would have to wait a few minutes until Barbara was finished helping me. I told Barbara to go deal with him and then come back to me. She said No, she was helping me and would help him when she finished with me. I really appreciated her comment but knew that she was going to get into trouble from her manager who was trying to deal with the NASTY man. He ended up leaving in quite a huff! After going into the Langley store on the weekend because of their sale on notions, I was SHOCKED to see the costs on needles. I was looking for Embroidery needles and seeing that they were approx. $17.95 for a package of 5, I must have made an exclamation on the cost, knowing that they would not fall under the 50% off sale. Another customer told me to go to another local smaller fabric/notion store not far from the Langely store and make my purchase there. MUCH CHEAPER for the exact same needle package. As I had never been to the recommended store, I got directions, went and made my purchase there. At this point I believe I will be going back to this store when I need notions as even their regular prices are so much cheaper than Fabricland!
