This is a fabric store located on Powell and 122nd. They get their fabrics mainly from China, India, and Pakistan. In addition to their large selection of fabrics, elastic material, and various trims, they also have a large selection of rugs and area rugs. No, I am not a seamstress. I come here with my wife Melanie T. What I like about this place is that if the husband is bored, there is plenty of aisle space to walk and for the husband to get his steps. This is a fun store to look for fancy fabrics. I stop by frequently and sometimes find something special. Not many natural fabrics, mostly synthetics. I recently bought a gorgeous chiffon print with peacock feathers that I sewed into a swimsuit coverup. Loved it. Great prices. Good stock of elastic trim for lingerie. read more

Buyer Beware! It takes a perfectionist to know there's a reason why they're cheaper than Joan's or Fabric Depot, because they are selling defective merchandise. You won't notice it while you're in the store but you'll know, when they don't hang properly. It doesn't matter how much you know sewing, but if you don't know fabric, and I do . . . . .but they're really mean and loud when you complain to them, like they accused you of not knowing HOW to cut/sew. I brought the defective fabric back to the store, he won't even look at it. I just left it there and let my Credit Card take care of my refund. They told me to watch my statement, it's possible people who behave like they did, could charge it back to my credit card. All I was asking back was $100 for my fabric. Watch all the signs on the wall. You've been warned! People who've been burned by them, won't be going back "Fabric for less" it really means defective quality! AN UPDATE: A copy from another user on Yahoo, that told me about DEFECTIVE FABRIC STORES: Defected fabrics imported Clothes sheets? Sheets, clothing fabrics imported from china pakistan, India , Defecteted fabrics fall apart. Every thing from pajamas to sheets fall apart when I get them. Cheap poorly made a lot more. Does this happen to others? There you go, this store is just another one of those STORES. Like I said, you can buy fabric that's better quality, from Craigslist, trying to get rid of their inventories, but try not to spend your hard earned cash, to stores that try to rip people off. I bought a lot of fabrics here. Lower quality to be sure, lots of synthetic blends, but if you're new to sewing or want to experiment with some whacky ideas or prints, or just need something inexpensive for accent/lining in tulle or organza, this is the spot. Most of the items are between $3.50-$5/6 a yard. They also had quite a few options for 4way stretch lace. I got gold satin, a really wonderful cotton blend vintage style floral print, a bright vintage style Hawaiian print, and some gold satin to line a dress. I also got several yards of plain white and plain red cotton blends that are super utilitarian. Basically you can get some fun stuff for the price of muslin. Plus the trims and notions are plentiful and just as cheap. 1/1.50 for zippers... yep! I'll take several thanks. Heck yeah! Would be IDEAL for cosplay fabrics or just costume making in general. read more

This place is a hole in the wall fabric store. SOOOO MUCH CHEAPER THAN JOANNS AND SO MUCH MORE VARIETY OF QUALITY FABRIC. The only downside is when they cut your fabric, they literally just eyeball it and cut as straight as possible with no ruler/guide. read more

I'm sooo tired of "big box" fabric stores, so I checked this place out. GREAT prices, but a lot of colorful organza, chiffon, silk, psequin stuff--not so much in the stretch knit or woven-type apparel fabrics. They had flannel prints that were lovely but overpriced. read more

This is a crazy bargain basement scavenger hunt of a place. It's great for silks, suiting and random "one of a kinds" - yes snoopy print and weird prints that were made overseas and translated. I saw a crazy print that had road signs on it and said brunette, blond and redhead. Weird. The bargain basement is amazing ... $2 a yard and the bolts are rolls so they are extremely wide. It reminds me of the fabric stores in New York, no thrills just mounds and mounds of fabric. This place is also great for ribbon, thread and zippers. My wife literally left this place 30 minutes ago when a cockroach fell from the ceiling or fabric and landed in between her eyeball and the lens of her glasses. She had to take them off and shake it off before the bug fell to the ground. Needless to say we won't be buying from there or recommending this place to anyone until they clean up their problem. read more

This mis my go to fabric store! Even if it is a 30 minute drive away, it's always worth it. I'm a dance leader, so when I need fabric I need about 50-60 yards at a time so it's really convenient for me. Their prices are reasonable, their fabric quality is really good and their customer service is excellent! I definitely recommend it. read more

Great prices. Customer service is the same at every fabric store I go into - so the fact that the dude that runs this place isn't overly friendly doesn't bother me. Everything is incredibly cheap, half the price other spots want to charge me. My only gripe is they don't seem to have much in terms of elastics, ribbons, appliqués or buttons and thread. Just fabric. So if you're in need of cheap fabric, head here. Otherwise head somewhere else! read more

Excellent quality and variety of fabric with very reasonable prices. It is my favorite store for all my sewing projects.

Honestly, you need to have realistic expectations when coming in. They are cheeeaaap and you can find some really cool fabric here that you wont find elsewhere. That being said, it is dusty and eerily quite and I cant say the fabric is going to be top of the line, but for a costume or small project the fabric is great and much easier on your wallet then going to Jo-Ann's. If your a serious seamstress and you plan on selling your clothing, then you may want to check out Fabric Depot instead. But if your working on a personal project and you don't need super quality materials then this place does just fine. read more

Solid discount fabric store. Good for costuming. Not high end fabrics. Competeitive pricing on some goods but overall less than other fabric shops including Joann's. Yes the owners can be somewhat cold but after coming here for years I have no issues and they are friendly to me. I do recommend this store highly if you are in a budget and want interesting fabrics that are not quilt fabrics. read more

This place is a pretty out of the way in a large warehouse space with flickering lights and rude staff. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind jumping through a few hoops for bargains. However, I'm not sure if this hoop is worth it. One guy snapped at me for asking a question, and another man followed me around the shop asking what fabric I was getting. This shop almost seems like a cover for something else. They did not seem very concerned with running a good business or treating their customers in an appropriate manner. The slightly discounted fabric is not worth it. I felt very uncomfortable in this shop. read more

I love this place! They're a great resource for costume fabrics, basics and embroidered/sequined sheers. I love their trims. The space is tidy enough, seems very organized, as fabric stores go. This is where the Dragon Lady, Madam Chaing, Madame Nu buy opulent silks & velvets. A lovely selection of exotic fabric. When I went to the store (by bus, easy to reach) I was looking for cotton prints. This is not the place to find cotton, but I came out with yards of purple fleece, for a blanket, and I couldn't help buying a piece of silk velvet burnout (blue-green) which I don't know what I'm going to use for, but lovely to have around. It is not a fancy store, and the lighting isn't good, but there are bins& bins and rolls & rolls of silks, velvets, sheer, shiny stuff, satin, that sort of thing, and the prices are very good. The young man in charge was super-helpful and told me where the $ store is, and about the Discount Grocery down in Hollywood. Another plus for this place is that it's right across the street from a Vietnamese Restaurant (Tien Hong?)that serves very good fried squid. read more

They do have super cheap prices on typically higher priced material but often, you get what you pay for. And in my case, what you OVER pay for. Watch these guys, they WILL over charge you if you are not vigilant about calculating the price while the fabric is being cut. ie. Getting 3 yards of fabric at $6/yard=$18. When you get up to the counter, suddenly your total becomes $21 etc. Then they accuse YOU of trying to cheat THEM! I guess math isn't as universal as I thought. read more

Had a great experience buying rugs from Roz (sp?) yesterday. He was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and went out of his way to accommodate us. We purchased two rugs for our home. Great value for the rugs. We set them up today and the house looks great! Roz gave us a great deal and even delivered the rugs to our home, free of charge, AND took away our old rugs. I recommend Fabrics for Less if you are looking for some good rugs. read more

If you're making a costume or glitzy outfit stop here first. The store is large, kind of dark and not that well organized. The selection is great and prices are reasonable. I've bought quite a bit of knit stretch velvet there. They had it in a rainbow of colors. My dgd wants a 'frozen' costume and I will be going here first to look for fabric. I;ve been in the fabric business for many years and I know this shop is a favorite for theater and belly dancing costumers. read more

Yeah - I'm a fan of this place too. It's definitely no frills, but if you're looking for cheap fabric this place is a treasure trove. Don't expect the kind of customer service you'll get from JoAnne's or even Fabric Depot, but then you're not paying even close to those prices either. read more
