Well I managed to nurse the second chick back to health. It turns out to be a rooster. I know that's not the owners fault but after all the smoke she blew about lower incubation temperature so she gets less roosters; I'm definitely surprised. I'd avoid this breeder. First, the positives-- as others have mentioned, Dawn herself is really sweet and personable. We had a great time going to pick out our chicks back in the spring and it's clear her birds all love her. So why one star? Of the three birds we purchased from her (for $20 a piece), one died within a month of us bringing it home, another came to us sick (I wish I had known what to look for) which resulted in my entire new flock becoming ill, and the third was a rooster who we've since had to rehome. Early on Dawn was helpful in providing me with what I needed to treat the illness in my flock, and it's why I held off on writing a review for as long as I did -- but then came the rooster and the grown chicks that are in fact not silkies... On the rooster front, we ended up rehoming our roo ourselves. Despite Dawn telling us at the time of purchase that she would help -- when it came time, she became unresponsive. I cannot say for sure what the chick we lost early would have been but I can tell you with absolute certainty that the two that survived were not silkies. We brought home several birds at the same time, three from here and several others from our local feed store. The others cost us less than 1/3 of what we paid for our birds from Dawn. So of the $60 spent for three birds that were supposed to be silkies, what we're left with is one bird that is beautiful but in no way passes for a silkie. I really wish I could give this a higher review and I know she has a lot going on personally, but that should not prevent anyone from operating with honesty in their business. read more

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS BREEDER! She sells sick chicks to unsuspecting people and lies to them about the chicks age, breed, and sex. The chicks all have Coccidia infections (causes bloody stool) and bacterial respiratory infections. If any of them survive you will likely as not get a rooster. And she doesn't vaccinate against Marek's disease, the number one cause of death in backyard chickens. Someone should shut this place down! read more

Avoid this breeder. She seems knowledgeable but is in fact blowing smoke up your... Sold us three extremely overpriced birds she said would be hens and one turned out to be a roo. For the price she should really take better care of her customers and also, she doesn't know what variety/type of bird she is selling you. She cannot say she's selling a "silkie" or a "frizzle" because she does not in fact know what they will be at the time she sells them to you. Don't waste your money. Don't listen to anything she says. She's a chicken mill selling for a premium price. read more

In March, I purchased 2 silkies from Dawne. We had several phone and text conversations. She constantly raves about her passion for breeding silkies and her 20+ years experience. I clearly stated that I live in a residential area, and can not have roosters. Her response was that with her experience, she is able to tell which is a rooster, and if I really want to be positive I get a hen, purchase the adolescent ones which she is positive are hens. I was willing to pay the $30 price vs. $13 for the baby chicks that she wasn't 100% positive about. Fast forward to one month later, one of the silkies start crowing early in the morning..... we have a rooster! When I initially text her, she is apologetic saying it doesn't happen often but "sometimes they sneak through" she said she would replace it. (SEE screenshot picture #1) It got more complicated because she's a breeder and can not take the silkie back without being quarantined for 30 days and she didn't have the means to do it. She agreed that I can give him to a happy home and she would replace it. Well she didn't replace it, she had 101 excuses, but then stopped responding to my calls and texts. Today, the other silkie just started crowing! I sent her a video and her tone was very different this time. Well she actually responded but unapologetic. (SEE screenshot #2) Do NOT purchase from Dawne if you live in a residential and 100% need hens. She has bad customer service and doesn't run an honest business. I want to update my review to include more information. In addition to the rooster fiasco, my family also purchased 3 chicks from Dawne. One died within 24 hours. She replaced that one, and the remaining 3 died within the week. I didn't want to include that in my original review as I thought it was something we did wrong. Unfortunately, after hearing many other stories, I now know that she was and still is selling sick chicks. In total I spent $75 for two "hens" that were in fact roosters, and $39 for the chicks that died. I was never refunded, and she had the nerve to try and turn it around on me as if it were my fault! There are many posts and threads about her on other websites so please do your research before buying from this lady. read more

I bought some silkies from this breeder. We have 1 boy and 1 girl. These silkies have such amazing personalities compared to my other road island reds etc. My hen just hatched her 1st baby last night. We are so proud of her. I texted the owner some questions late at night and called her early in the morning with great advice to keep our baby safe. Thank you for my chickens and this experience I get to show my kids. I googled a breeder near and found Dawne. She was feeding her babies in the front and they were so happy. It really was a beautiful sight to see. After walking around seeing all the silkies and other breeds. We ended up leaving with 2 babies (we actually didn't go with the intentions to buy). It's been almost 3wks and the babies are doing wonderful! The eat drink and sleep well. They actually sleep when we do, which is amazing. Definitely will be back! read more

Do not buy from this lady. She guaranteed that I would get all females, I purchased 4, they're 3 months now and 2 are for sure roos. The reason why I drove to Lathrop to buy from her is her promise that she hatches females. Lower temperature for longer or whatever. I live in town (Auburn). This is one of them. I cant believe I didn't write this sooner but I should have! I have now bought 3 separate batches of chicks from Dawne. From my very first babies in October of 2019, more in July of 2020 and then again in October of 2020. I did not know Dawne before buying from her but I feel like she's a friend now because she has been so incredibly helpful every step of the way. We had no clue what we were doing when we started so I was constantly calling or texting her with questions. Dawne loves to help! I really don't think I could have done it without her. It's a lot to learn! One thing I know is there are a couple women that have made it their mission to destroy Dawne's reputation. They literally have a scammer warning at the top of their own Craigslist ads saying not to go to Dawne because she sells sick birds. And runs her mouth in a bunch of Facebook groups. The lady that started the rumors (named Sherri) is LYING. Why is it I've bought three separate times from Dawne and not once have I gotten a sick bird from her? These ladies have gone out of their way to tell other buyers fabricated stories about Dawne selling them sick birds. And the reason I know they are faking it is because when I asked for the necropsy reports, which they claimed to have, they wouldn't show them to me. Every time I called them out on their BS and asked for proof...dead silence. They are lying through their teeth. I am amazed at how much work these ladies have put into damaging Dawne's reputation. One of Dawne's happy customers told her this lady even put a warning in her welcome letter. Dawne also got a screenshot from another customer who messaged this Sherri lady, who after hearing the customer had previously bought from Dawne, texted the customer back and told her terrible things about Dawne! So unprofessional! And it's been like 2 years! This lady is whacky. She seriously HATES Dawne. But then she can't provide ANY proof to her claims. It's so sad and so petty. It absolutely breaks my heart because Dawne just loves chickens so much. You won't get the kind of customer service Dawne gives by anyone else. I started off interested in pure silkies but I quickly learned that what Dawne is really great at is breeding chickens with incredible personalities! She is like a scientist the way she mixes in small amounts of different breeds to get different outcomes. If you ask her about her project birds, she gets very passionate. It's all really interesting! Once I bought chickens from someone else because they had a specific breed I wanted. Those chickens were so skittish and not at all friendly compared to the ones we got from Dawne. If you want sweet friendly chickens, you've gotta go to Fabulously Feathered Silkies. Dawne is so good at this! Her chickens are seriously the best! Please ignore the bad reviews. Most likely they are written by Sherri's posse. Here's a picture of my two most recent purchases from Dawne. They are half Silkie, half D'Uccle and they are part of a project she's been working on (which isn't complete yet). One has mottled feathers and the other has frizzled feathers! These almost 3 month old babies are the sweetest yet. They literally jump on our laps, they are so friendly! read more

I got a hen from her from Craigslist and it was filled with lice! She said the hen was molting, but I'm pretty sure it was from the lice. She acted like the hen got it from my place, even though there were several stages of lice on the hen. DO NOT BUY FROM HER! I bought 2 silkies a while back, one standard one frizzle, and now that they're older. my standard had started to crow and i can't have boys as i live in a neighborhood and sell my eggs. but my biggest issue is that my frizzle isn't a frizzle. it has no curls in its feathers and looks like a normal chicken accept it has an afro. very disappointed as the chicks were pretty pricey. read more

I do not recommend this breeder. I could not even get to the point of buying birds from her. No matter how many times I tried to schedule a get together or a phone call, she always had an excuse why she was unavailable. She also offered to DNA sex the birds...but, again, she could not commit to the when/how this would be done. The response was always "come up and see what we have". Lastly, she refuses to provide any photos...at all. No photos of the birds available or of the breeders. Have tried several times, but this seems like a very a stereotypical sketchy "backyard breeder" with little credibility or confidence in the quality of her birds. read more

We bought chicks from Dawne. She was extremely nice and seemed very knowledgeable. On the car ride home we noticed that one of the chicks had what appeared to be a cold. Over the next couple of days it got more and more sick then finally leveled over dead. We got a necropsy on the chick and it tested positive for mycoplasma. We sent a copy to Dawne yet she continued to sell chicks despite knowing her flock was infected and the only solution for that illness is culling the entire flock. read more
