I've been using the low-cost services offered here for over 10 years. I am grateful for the work that they do and appreciate the continued support of the community to keep them open. Unfortunately, over the years, the level of service has declined. I can't be sure, but I don't think they still house community cats or cats that are available for adoption. The basic exam that they do couldn't take longer than 30 seconds because all 3 of our cats were in and out in less than 5 minutes. They all received vaccines and had the brief exam done within that timeframe. The checking out process took much longer. Following COVID and the protocols that changed, I just don't feel like things ever got "back to normal." I understand that this is an animal care facility, but it was truly disgusting and especially rank the day that we went in there. I would hope that someone mops daily, but the floor looked like it had definitely not been cleaned in a week. The nature of the business is likely to explain the mess, but some efforts to air the place out a bit would be appreciated. The staff are all really friendly and the cost, though it has gone up steadily over the years, is still the most affordable that I've found. We took our sweet Nova to get spayed along with some shots and microchipping. The staff was extremely nice and attentive and had her best interest at heart. We dropped her off and then got called shortly after to see if we could come back and be with Nova while they sedate her. They said they would rather have us there to calm her down than to put a muzzle on her which I really appreciated. She's normally anxious around new people and when we went to pick her up she seemed completely okay. I was very nervous as this was her first vet visit (with us at least) and I couldn't be happier. We're going to monitor Nova over the next couple weeks to make sure everything goes smoothly. Other than that, I definitely recommend coming here. read more

I just inherited a 4 month old puppy 2 days ago, so I came to the walk in clinic from 1 to 3 on Tuesdays and I came in shortly before 1 PM's and he was done at 115. I only needed to wait a little while longer to check out and pay. But everything went smooth, he got his rabies and whatever else shots he needed for 4 months old and he got a nail trim and an exam. It was all a $109. I do think the nail trim itself was $28. So obviously that's something you can do yourself. But I just thought while he was here. I would let them do it. So I had absolutely no trouble with this visit and I definitely recommend the price. And the care you receive at least 4 vaccines. Because that's all that I know about at this point. read more

Very quick with checkin as long as you provide all documents beforehand. Short wait after appointment time. 3 year Feline vaccines for about $70. The vets here are so wonderful and kind. I had two community cats taken here. Unfortunately one of them did not survive (due to organ issue that the cat had before entering the vet) but the vets tried their best efforts despite not being a complete vet clinic. I really appreciate all the work they do and I'm glad I found a place where I can take in the community cats. I'm not too sure on the doctors name as I cannot find it on the website but her name sounding like it was Dr. Debrough/Debroux. If anyone knows their name I would really appreciate it! There are some factors that can possibly be off putting to the general public such as the location of the clinic, the condition of the clinic, limited parking, and somewhat long waits. However, those factors are really trivial when you walk in, fall in love with an animal wanting and needing a home, and walk out with a new family member. We took our puppy there for his shots; we were very pleased with this experience. Unfortunately, we took him there to be neutered and when we picked him up he had poop and pee all over him. I am not just talking in the back; it was ALL over him. To say I was angry would have been an understatement!!!!! At the very least they could put a potty pad down. I went there the other day to pick up flea meds for my dogs. As I walked up a woman put up a sign saying they were closed from 12 to 1 pm. Mind you it was only 11:45. The synopsis: Face is a low-cost spay/neuter clinic located on the far north east end of downtown's Massachusetts Avenue. Their goal is clear-to lead the fight against pet overpopulation. The rundown: We were initially very skeptical about the quality of care at such a low-cost clinic. We called the clinic to ask for more information. the woman who answered the phone was very happy to explain the clinic's mission and to reassure us that our dog would receive excellent care. She put us at ease, and we made an appointment for the following Monday. What to expect: We received a reminder call for our appointment the day before, which I appreciated. Drop off time was between 8am and 9am. We showed up around 8:30am, and joined the end of the line for check-in. The line was nearly out the door. It was a traumatic entry, as we were greeted by many wimpering dogs, nervous owners, and the aroma of urine from all of the nervous animals. Unsettling, yes, but we powered through, as we were greeted by friendly staff upon check-in. Each dog was given a letter (each cat a number) and you are called in for surgery in the order that you checked in. In our case, we were "Dog Z", so we waited for about 60 minutes before it was our dog's turn. After they called us, we were taken back to a room where a friendly veterinarian gave our dog a quick exam, injected her with a sedative, and took her into the kennel area to await her surgery. We were instructed to head out to the main area to pay for the service, and we would pick her up between 5:30pm and 6pm. By the time we left, we were feeling quite confident in the clinic's process. It had a sort of "well oiled machine" operating procedure which was comforting. The Cost: Our dog's spay cost us $30, which was extremely reasonable, as compared to many of the veterinarian's office prices that we were quoted during our research. P.S. The check out process was much quicker than the morning drop off. The odor had been cleaned. It was much nicer to see happy owners being reunited with their groggy pets. We were instructed on how to provide proper care at home. All in all, I was very satisfied with our experience and I would definitely recommend this clinic to a friend. FACE was the third vet we took our dog Butch to in six months. The first two vets said that he was fine, but it was obvious that he wasn't. The people at FACE saw that Butch was really sick and spent the entire day running tests to try to figure out how to save his life. Honestly, they really cared, and this was obvious. Over the course of that day Kara, the vet tech, and the brunette female vet (I'm embarrased that I've forgotten her name, because she was absolutely the most amazing vet EVER!!) became our friends. We left with medicine and an understanding of what was going on with our sick dog. Butch died two weeks later. He was just an old dog. He had 15 amazing years. FACE did everything they could to save him and make his last days as comfortable as possible. For this we are eternally grateful. Such beautiful and amazing people. Thank you FACE for taking care of our dog! We woke up one morning to find a lot of discharge in our dog's eyes. Kept an eye on it for 24 hours and after no change, we were able to take her into FACE's walk-in hours for a visit. Turns out she had a dog-version of pink eye and we were given prescription eye drops. Less than a week later and her eyes were clear as crystal! We are very grateful to have a low cost and walk-in clinic near us. It does require some strategic planning because the walk-in hours are minimal and there are lots of other patients hoping to get in on time. However, having this clinic available to us for non-emergency events is convenient, and the team was very sweet and caring for our dog! read more

It's so much better than going to spend $500 at the vet. I really like bringing my pets here, also, because of all the other dogs and cats that are here. Wonderful people there, took great care of our kitties which we brought in to get spayed. No negative interactions really (except the fleas. Fleas are a bit of a problem) Atmosphere is rather loud but what do you really expect? Lines are somewhat long, so make sure you get there about a half hour before your appointment. Prepare to meet lots of cute cats and dogs! So many pet owners yet so few people working at the check in. So the lines are quite long. Employees are nice and kind. As well as helpful in comforting owners who are bringing their pets in for surgery or to be put to sleep. However, it stinks of cat urine there, and I mean it REEKS! Be prepared to get slapped in the face by the odor as soon as you walk in the doors. Also use bugspray or wear pants, so the fleas don't chew your legs up. read more

What an incredible service FACE is providing to Indy and surrounding areas. Regardless of your income level or ability to pay, FACE seeks to provide affordable care to cat and dog owners alike. They provide everything from necessary medications and vaccines to necessary surgical procedures. Our furry friends are known and loved here. Overhead costs are kept at a minimum here and they survive on in kind donations from members of the community. You can also donate your well loved crates, carriers, etc. to FACE, which will in turn be gifted to a furr Momma (or dadda) in need. The customer service here is terrible. If you bring your pet here, plan on setting aside several hours of your day. I think their low cost vet service is good for the community and their pets, but you get what you pay for. It took me four tries to get my cat in to see a vet this week. I first went in on Monday, and the waiting room was full and the line was out the door. Only one receptionist was working, talking to people both in person and on the phone, taking her sweet time. When I got to the front, I filled out the paperwork, and she told me it'd be a two hour wait. I couldn't wait that long because I had to be somewhere in two hours. I went back the following day, much earlier in the afternoon at a time when I didn't expect them to be busy, and it was the same thing - a full room, line out the door, one receptionist, and a two hour wait. Once again, I couldn't stay because I had plans in two hours. By this point, I accepted this as the norm for their customer service, and planned to come in first thing in the morning on Wednesday, setting everything else aside. The doors open at 9:30, and pets start getting treatment at 10. I got there at 9:45 a.m., waited in a long line again, and the one receptionist told me it would be a 90-minute wait starting at 10 a.m, and to come back at 11:30. A text message told me that my wait time was 90-minutes. I came back right at 11:30, told the receptionist that I was there (after waiting five minutes for her to get off the phone), and then she told me that the wait would be another 40 minutes. I was not happy. I went home, had lunch, then eventually got a text message that they'd be ready for me in 15 minutes. I hurried back there, and they called my pet's name within ten minutes. Two vets were in the room, an experienced vet and a vet in training. They asked me what was going on, and I said that she was a stray, and that I just needed to know if she had a chip and if she had leukemia, because that would help me decide what I would do with her next. She didn't have a chip, and after several days of my wife and I looking for her owner online, we didn't have any luck. Anyway, they started examining her, which surprised me because I mentioned on the paperwork that I just wanted a leukemia test. So I said "I just need a leukemia test," and they looked surprised. So they gave her one, and told me to wait in the lobby for fifteen minutes. They called my number and I went up to pay for her. They charged me $60, $25 for the leukemia test and $35 for a medical exam. I told the receptionist that I didn't want a medical exam, just the leukemia test, and that that's what I had written on the paperwork. The receptionist told me that the two came together, and that upset me because it never mentioned that on the paperwork. There's a check option for what you'd like to do with the appointment. I argued with her, and she still made me pay the whole $60. This was my second bad experience with FACE. I took my two cats in to be fixed in 2010 and the woman who prepared them was very rude to me and rough with my cats. I think I'm done with FACE. The two vets that assisted me and my cat were nice and helpful, but I would have rather paid extra money for a real vet clinic and gotten a much better experience. As busy as this place is, I refuse to believe that they can't afford to hire a second receptionist to greatly speed things up. read more

First and foremost, this is a low-cost clinic that caters to the Indianapolis region. Consider that before visiting. The staff is friendly enough, although the receptionist still had some things to learn about basic questions. (Ex: How long is an average visit?) I realize it's not an easily answered question; every patient is different, but this is something you can gauge as most doctors will have an average wait time per patient. She was trying, though, and was doing a good job at managing all of the paperwork being shoved at her. The facilities themselves are not stellar. Now, previous reviews make this place seem like they operate out of a cardboard box in a questionable-looking ally in the middle of the night. Obviously, that's not true. The state of their facilities is largely the fault of the clients. Dogs and cats are bound to make messes. It happens. Based on what I observed, they clean this place daily, but there is only so much that can be done when you're up to your eyeballs in patients. The wait times are abysmal. That's not something you shouldn't expect. The lure of reasonable pricing is the reason for this. Their check-in system is archaic and could definitely be improved upon. Consider how the BMV operates. You're given a number/letter when you enter and then you're seen based on that order. I feel that computerizing this process would make things run more smoothly. Just my take. There is only one veterinarian and a student doctor that see patients. Expect your wait time to exceed two hours on a normal day, and up to three to four on a Friday. There are other alternatives for vet care that they will provide you if you are unable to make their process work in your favor. Overall, I'd compare them to an Eskenazi/Wishard, but for pets. They do what they can with the resources they have. read more

So our sweet dog (Mellie) got hit by a car in a hit and run. We absolutely thought we would loose her! She was taken to a shelter on the south side of town and their surgeon did an amazing job of stitching Mellie back together! With that being said, after Mellies surgery, we took her to a 24-hour emergency vet care facility and after being there for a week and a half we were referred to FACE to amputate Mellies leg. We scheduled a time to amputate and in the middle of the (almost) surgery the vet called us and let us know that they did not feel comfortable amputating Mellies leg and they felt the leg could heal on its own! So we took Mellie home and began the healing process. FACE gave us pain, anti inflammatory drugs, and antibiotics for Mellie at a pretty low cost! We brought Mellie back once a week and over the span of about 5 weeks, her wounds began to heal! With lots of prayer and expertise from the FACE staff, our sweet baby is back to normal! We are so thankful for this staff and all of the wonderful care they have provided our dog. Not only was Mellies leg saved but she also has new friends! The two things that I noticed that has room for growth (reason I'm giving 4 stars) are the smells - which is to be expected! A bunch of scared animals peeing/pooping on the floors makes for an interesting aroma ;) Also, there needs to be more parking! Other than that, we love FACE!!! read more

I'll start off by saying that I have taken several of my pets to Face over the years for vaccines, medications, check ups and neuter/spay procedures. I took my 10 month old Doberman to be neutered on April 6th. The wait was CRAZY, but that I'm used to, and expected. We finally got back to the room, and who I assume to be the surgeon came in. Her coldness I did NOT expect. She had a syringe , and I had a question that she ignored although I asked several times. My pets are my world and I like to know as much about what's happening as possible. I just wanted to know what was in the needle. All she kept saying in her ster, cold voice, that wherever my sweet Apollo's head was, is where my fiance needed to be. Now I can understand the job must be hard, and maybe she hears the same questions all the time. I can't say for certain. But I know that just the air and coldness about her made me want to take my baby out of that place. I should have. Now keeping a puppy calm is hard, so I opted for the extra "pain" medication in hopes that it would help. Boy, was I wrong. Even the Elizabethan collar couldn't stop him. But, I religiously checked his gums, and incision. I monitored his water and food intake, as well as his urination and bowel movements. I wanted to make sure his healing process went by as quickly and smoothly as possible. On April 8th I got home from work, and immediately noticed his right leg and along the right side of his penis horribly swollen. It was squishy as if it were filled with fluid and he seemed immensely uncomfortable. I immediately called the emergency line. I sent pictures. They suggested a possible reaction to sutures, to give benadryl and bring him in the next day. I then quickly went and got benadryl, gave him the suggested dose, and hoped it would at least help to make him comfortable. It didn't help. We went in right at opening the next day, which quickly turned into a fiasco. I walked in to a freshly mopped waiting area. Now my Apollo is a sweet, but very rambunctious boy, and although uncomfortable he quickly became over excited wanting to play and greet all the other fur babies. I tried to hang back a bit before checking in due to the fact I was slipping and sliding all over the wet floor. I nearly bit the dust several times, I'm sure it was quite comical. Me slipping and sliding, trying to keep my lampshade clad boy in place. When I finally made my way to the front, a rather large dog seated with it's owner by the check in window began to growl and pull it's owner. Wanting to prevent any further disaster, I kindly asked another employee at a different window if she could check me in. There was NO line at the check in window. She told me no, that I'd have to check in at the next window. I again, kindly asked, and stated that I didn't want to slip and fall on the sopping wet floor. She again told me I had to check in at the next window. I then told her no, that I did not wish to step to the next window, next to a large growling dog, for the slight (but still scary) chance that an incident would occur. All the while Apollo was also slipping and sliding on said wet floor. Finally she agreed to check me in, most likely due to the fact that I had started to get loud, and was struggling with keeping my baby from falling. Finally another employee took me to a room, so that he wouldn't "damage his sutures". When he was finally seen he was diagnosed (in about 4 minites) with an adema commonly seen in horses due to inactivity. Although I told them several times he definitely hadn't been inactive. $60 worth of meds later (an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory) I still felt uneasy. I called my vet, and we went straight there. I was there for almost 2 hours. Most of that spent examining and observing. Poking, prodding, and pondering. Finally he suggested a test for Von Willebrand Disease. Common in Dobermans, and in some cases doesn't show up until a surgical procedure. Apollo's blood wasn't clotting as it should, and caused pooling. I thank god that I got a second opinion, and my vet spent the time that he did with my baby. Maybe if they'd spent a more than mere minutes with him... But Apollo is fine now, and that's all that matters to me. Let me start this review with some background information...started taking my dog to FACE when he was 3-4 months old for his puppy shots. He is now 6 years and 4 months old and has had all of his shots done at FACE. He has shown absolutely NO aggression during his yearly shot visit and, actually, only has one vet tech accomplish this with me positioned between his head and hip and has NEVER even paid attention to the tech giving him his shots. This dog is the least aggressive, friendliest dog you could wish for. One of the neighborhood kids (13 years old) routinely takes him out on walks solo and he interacts just fine with this young man and the other kids he's introduced to (as young as 6 years old). Last year due to Covid I wasn't allowed to go inside with him and I was told that he needed to be muzzled for the "safety" of the staff!! Although I wasn't thrilled I do understand that sometimes dogs might react differently without their owner present. When he was returned to me I was told he behaved beautifully. This morning we went for his yearly shot appointment and although I was allowed into the building I was not allowed to accompany him to the exam room. Well much to my surprise I was again informed he needed to be muzzled because "he could turn on someone in a second"...and I've been watching multiple large dogs including several pit bulls going back for their shots without being muzzled, as well as many smaller dogs. The first muzzle I was given was too small so another was brought out. My poor pupper managed to pull it off of his face so I had to fight him to get it back on again and tighten it (since he doesn't require a muzzle and has only ever been forced to wear one once before, obviously he wasn't happy and very confused). It broke my heart to see him dragged across half of the lobby because he wouldn't even walk with this strange device tied to his face. Others in the exam room were also appalled by this treatment as my dog had been interacting beautifully with everyone including the tech that required me to muzzle him. Well, I went up to ask specifically why my dog was forced to wear a muzzle when no other dogs were being muzzled "due to safety concerns". No coherent explanation was given other than one of their vet techs had been bitten by a dog?? Another staffer said most often it is the smaller dogs that bite. So basically they really had no logical reason for their requirement. After the appointment we went to Petco to buy my boy a treat and one of their staff said her dog was muzzled last year as well but that was because her girl snapped at staffer which my dog has no history of doing. Her best guess was after our last year's appointment someone noted on my boy's file "muzzle" so from here on out FACE will force my boy to be muzzled. And I will note the tech who brought him back out to the car said he behaved beautifully. Plus they discontinued carrying the Advantage Multi which he has been on for years for a more expensive chewable product. So time to find a new vet as I'd rather spend more money than force my pet to be terrorized by these petty dictators at FACE. Hope they enjoy spending the money they forced me to pay for his neuter surgery (which they tried to force me into when he was 6 months old and large breed dogs need those hormones during their first 2 years until they are fully grown) which never happened because I listened to large breed dog experts and followed their advice. And he's now 6 years old, has never fathered a litter of puppies, has no behavioral or health problems so I'm glad I didn't let them strongarm me in performing a surgery that would have had a detrimental effect on my boy. It's a real shame that I have been forced into either having my dog terrorized by their staff to get decent shot prices or change vets and pay more money for the same services. Although it's going to be a budgetary stretch I'd rather pay more to keep my dog from being abused by this unnecessary and apparently extremely selective muzzling procedure. And to be honest if I could give a negative review I would do so because on each and every appointment FACE staff have noted how well behaved and friendly my dog has been during his visits and to suddenly reverse that perception based on nothing is just so wrong that I have no words to accurately explain my negative reaction to this muzzling requirement. Great low cost animal clinic, got my dog neutered there and I have absolutely no complaints she came out perfect.
