Ralph came to me in November at that time, my house needed extensive work. I had just fired another…read morecompany. He had an exterminator at my house the next day. I had paid 1200.00 one of Ralph's contractors to demo my kitchen, before I actually had Ralph's team start in my basement where I had termite damage. He had charged me 18,000 to demo and frame joist replacement and drywall the one side of my basement, build new stairs. His workers did work they were not supposed to complete. Ralph stated to me that he could not charge me for the work and that it cost him 5000.00 IN TIME AND LABOR! Subsequently, I had him renovate the first floor and we extended the drywall to the hallways on my second floor His initial charge was 30,000, which became 35,000, that he charged me for add-ons. I was not pleased with the increase, and the end of the day's clean ups initially, when I addressed it with Ralph, it improved. They build a half wall that is wobbly. I have no hand rails on my stairs. I will install on my own. I just had a real estate appraisal that I was told I have to have my gas line reinstalled because it won't pass a home inspection for safety concerns, because it is exposed along the basement stairs wall, and someone could possibly lean on it and break it. I had to replace a faulty receptacle. The house is nice by appearance ,there were some less than satisfactory details that were never finished. The workers were dependable and showed up on time, and some days earlier than expected. The cabinets were originally not installed correctly and Ralph promptly had them corrected, and they are beautiful. The floors are very nice, some of the trim was not up to my expectations. They installed new back and front doors that I had purchased. One of the doors was left swing and Ralph had the correct door purchased and exchanged them. The replacement was damaged and Ralph had it exchanged and correctly installed, at no charge. I am having difficulty with a hard wired smoke alarm location that continues to set off, It is installed "according to code specifications." but quite annoying. The plumbing was converted to Pex tubing, and the electrical was upgraded with very nice ceiling inserted LED lighting Overall, my house is so much more improved, I was pleased overall, but there are items that I believe could've been done better. Thank you.

Pine Street Carpenters - Kitchen remodel in Malvern, PA.

We chose Pine Street for a full house remodel (replacing electric, plumbing, major structural…read morerevisions) of an historical home in the West Chester borough. Our primary objective was the highest quality work that would preserve the historical aspect of the home, but fully modernized and at the lowest reasonable cost. Nearly three years since we engaged them and we continue to feel like that was the best decision we could have possibly made. The essential things that made this experience wonderful for us, particularly as first-time home renovators, were the detailed planning and rigorous project management, the quality of craftsmanship and expert network, and the incredibly warm professionalism and care of the team. In sum, they delivered below our initial cost projections and ahead of time -- nearly the opposite of all the horror stories we've heard about some of the other crews. In the beginning, it was a very difficult decision to choose Pine Street. Their cost projections were higher than their competitors by A LOT. I nearly dismissed them because of it. But the level of detail and thoughtfulness in the bid really won me over. When I questioned competitors about some of the detail included in the PS bid, they would always respond that if that happened, they would need to increase costs, etc. It really made me worry about what final costs would eventually be and I ultimately chose PS for their transparency and integrity. Perhaps the best element of the entire project was the onsite project manager. This is a person who will be your main point of contact throughout, who will have all of the answers and will ultimately know your home better than you do. This is an enormous gift and a real relief in what would otherwise be a stressful time. Ours would call us proactively, make great suggestions and recommendations (things that you just don't know as you begin, but that are revealed as you get started). For example, he had a piece of reclaimed barn wood in his garage that he used as an accent piece in a stairwell or, in another case, was able to use parts of the existing rafters as trim in the bedroom. These little things feel brilliant when you're trying to preserve the feel of the home and keep costs low -- and these are simply things we never could have anticipated in the planning stage. This role in your remodel can really magnify the experience as a client. Another aspect to consider is that Pine Street has cultivated a network of people they trust over years of experience and working together. Every single person who came through our house was knowledgeable, respectful and responsive. The team would not have allowed it to be any other way. Further, at the end of the project, they gave us a portfolio of contact information for each person that had worked on the house, so if anything goes wrong or we need some additional work, we have a network of folks that know the house and that we know we can trust (and who, by the way, will be very quick to respond out of respect for their relationship with Pine Street). Finally, the part that is hardest to articulate, is the warm professionalism that the team brings. You'll feel it first with Brendon when you call with your first inquiry, but you'll leave feeling nearly astonished that the entire team carries it forward: problems will be addressed and solved before you even hear about them; the site will be clean at the end of every day without fail; the team will stop what they're doing when you enter to make sure you can see and understand the steps that are being taken (and they never got impatient with our very frequent visits). Again, all things we didn't know before we started but ended up defining the quality of our experience. It is an important decision to choose the right partner in these efforts. I can get easily stressed out by the volume of decisions that need to be made and was vigilant about costs and timing. The Pine Street team exceeded most of our expectations and left us knowing we made absolutely the right decision.

This was a big project organizing lots of materials, people--including us, the clients and juggling unexpected structural issues, so of course there were a few minor hiccups along with way and the project took a bit longer than initially expected, but this was in part because of change orders we made. All in all, a great experience. This was our first renovation and it was as painless as you can get. We've been recommending Pine Street for the high quality, good design suggestions and smooth process.

They have a blog on cabinet ratings - incredibly helpful. I got a bid from a Northern California contractor that uses a local cabinet supplier/importer. Those cabinets were in my budget but didn't meet the quality criteria listed in the article. This article also listed ratings for more than 50 brands, including ones that they don't use. My other contractor offered two manufacturers in the blog at competitive prices. The brands this company uses to design kitchens for their clients were rated best. There's no benefit for this business to rate brands they don't sell. But the information in this article helps so many people. If this business gives articles like this to the public, I am sure they will provide top notch service to their customers.

Paul helped us brainstorm creative ideas for redesigning our kitchen space and provided a lot of helpful advice and customer education. Paul was patient, communicative, and timely. After selecting our remnant, we were rushed into choosing our templates prior to the installation the following day. When I noticed a spot marked with a green X, I was assured it was a small hole that would be filled with epoxy and we would never notice it. We moved forward based on that assurance. When the counters were installed, we found 10 to 15 visibly mismatched epoxy repairs and a noticeable scratch. The one repair I had specifically asked about was the worst of all. A technician came out the following week, acknowledged the repairs didn't match, and admitted our salesperson should have disclosed them -- but suggested most predated Colonial's purchase of the stone, meaning we were sold a heavily repaired remnant with zero disclosure. What followed has been four months of inexcusable customer service. I called 3 to 5 times per week and almost never heard back. When I finally reached Wendy in management on April 2, 2026, she was unaware of key details and said she'd follow up with the service department. It is now June 1, 2026, and I have not received a single callback since. I want to be fair: the counters themselves are beautiful, and every service technician who came to our home was professional and exceptional. This is purely a failure of customer service at the management level. We live 45 minutes away and have busy lives, but we are now left with no choice but to drive there in person just to find someone willing to speak with us. We were prepared to give Colonial more of our business. Instead, we have been ignored for months over an issue that -- at least in part -- was clearly their responsibility. The lack of basic decency in returning a customer's call is something I never expected from a professional company. I would urge anyone considering Colonial Marble & Granite to think carefully before trusting them with a significant purchase.
