This process started with a knock on my door. I open the door with a smile and a man in a punk t-shirt asks, "is there a K. R. here?". "That's would be me." I cheerfully respond. He handed me a court letter thingy for a debt I had. This moment, everyone seems to have one, was a clarifying moment for me. It was the moment that I turned to Google to find my lawyer and read reviews to find a (shudder) yup bankruptcy lawyer. I read review after review and stumbled upon one written by Seth Ballstaedt. He was eloquent and responding to a negative review. Ok, this man was nice, professional in his anger, and took the time to respond to someone who was angry at him. After that initial phone call I am sold, I want this firm, the woman that I talked to was super nice and answered all of my questions (I even stop thinking the word bankruptcy in a whisper). I made my first appointment. That first step was the hardest but Ballstaedt Law Firms made the rest really simple and mostly stress-free (can't help internal anxiety). The first appointment was awesome, I got all of my questions answered, it was a bit of a whorl wind and there were a few moments that I felt confused as these guys (the lawyers helpers) have done this so many times they forget that this is my first so I had to ask about things, so make sure and have a list of your questions. Also, in the front office area, I was surprised at how open everything was, I work at a hospital, so HIPAA (a federal law that protects patient privacy is our norm), client confidentiality is not a thing here as bankruptcy is a public thing, so be prepared for your questions to be answered at the front desk with people sitting there listening. Yes at times I had to wait in the office (who hasn't been to the doctor and waited WAY past the appointment time?). They offered me water and answered all of my questions any time I called (I called multiple times), emailed (multiple times and they responded quickly) or stopped by (I make lists so I always had lots, many of which were answered in paperwork they gave me already and they still answered the questions without being rude). I talked to Seth Ballstaedt at my first appointment. He was pretty amazing in that he explained the process and did NOT make me feel like a loser in anyway. They gave me paperwork which I read and reread and I am a super organized person so I had 3 copies of everything. I did the 2 classes, etc...and eventually it was time for my hearing. I showed up for my hearing and my lawyer came. He was dressed very professionally (pretty awesome suit actually) which helped ease some anxiety, he pulled the group of Ballstaedt people aside (which I did not expect but didn't mind at all) and gave us a run down on what to expect which made more anxiety ease (I was a ball of anxiety anyway but he was super helpful and boy am I glad I wasn't those people who did their own bankruptcy and had a creditor show up). I screwed up on one question in the paperwork dang-it despite my ridiculous over preparation! The judge caught it at the hearing and I didn't have to fix it, Ballstaedt took care of it without a problem. All in all, I give this experience a 5 out of 5 for ease of procedure (despite the wait at appointment times) and due to not having to do any of the paperwork for court. 5 out of 5 for helpfulness and friendliness of staff and lawyers (I talked with Seth Ballstaedt, Brad Simms (which minus having WAY too much energy for someone at 5:00 in the afternoon was nice and helpful), Victroria Quach (who was really nice and also did not make me feel like a loser at all, she also got me a water), and I think it was Aaron Heigi that had the awesome suit at the hearing. I only interacted with the suit guy for a short moment but he was professional, helpful, obviously had all of his t's crossed and i's dotted which was reassuring in a high anxiety moment (also, every time I called the people who answered were always helpful, quick and nice). 5 out of 5 for explaining the process, as many times as I wanted at any stage of the process I needed. So coming from a horrible gut clenching feeling of shame, it ended in kind of an anticlimactic way; a letter in the mail. I can now think and say bankruptcy without whispering or shudders of shame thanks to Ballstaedt's team of professional people making a potentially horrible experience painless and simple. I filed for bankruptcy and paid in full on March 21, 2017. March 23rd an emergency bankruptcy filing was done per my request to protect me from any creditors attempting to garnishing me. March 27th I had my signing appointment; this appointment is to review your bankruptcy documents and to make sure all the information is accurate. At this appointment they will also want to make sure you have taken all of the required credit counseling classes. April 24th I was in US Bankruptcy Court for the official Bankruptcy Hearing. The official court hearing was completed in 5 minutes. April 27th I received notification that the 341/Bankruptcy hearing was successful and concluded. June 23, 2017 I received my discharge. All I can say is that if filing for a bankruptcy is something that you have made a careful decision that you must do; come prepared with your list of creditors and pay as promptly as you can. As prompt as you are, this is as prompt as Ballstaedt will be able to act on your behalf. Be sure to keep all mailings of creditors you owe that may not be on your credit report, this way you can add them in addition to what is on your credit report. I had an excellent experience working with Seth Ballstaedt at the Summerlin area office to file my Chapter 7. I went to his firm after paying $500 to another firm that was leading me on a path to a Chapter 13 and 5 years of hefty payments. Seth did a closer analysis of my situation and determined that I qualified for a high end Chapter 7 which saved me a lot of money and stress. There were even multiple times that I called the office and Seth answered the phone personally. His staff is professional, courteous, extremely responsive, and so helpful. Response from the Owner to "Remmy L." As much as I hate to see this negative review below, I see his point and want to address the $700 bankruptcy. Our fees are listed right on our website in a way that Remmy or anyone else can know what he will be charged before even visiting our office. It includes all potential additional charges. To clarify, we charge $700 in attorney fees for an under median chapter 7 case. This does not include the filing fee of $306. That is it! there is nothing else. I don't know why Remmy would say that we don't tell the truth about our fees. We provided to him, as we do all our clients, a breakdown of our fee structure right when he walked in our office. Not to mention that the fees are already listed right on our website. I cannot possibly be more upfront and honest about my fees. I suggest you consider the reviews of clients who actually used our service (which are all 5 star ratings), not this angry person who never even used our service, and spammed every review site online and wrote the same review on each website because has a ax to grind and didn't bother to read the fee breakdown we provided to him. read more
